I'm running the stock rom 2.3.4, and it's not rooted or anything. The stock clock, when I click it, it's unresponsive, but when you hit the weather right underneath it still goes to the weather. Did I turn something off or is there a setting I can change to get it back to working normally, I can't get into my alarm or anything. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Check out menu> settings> about phone> software information, look at the software number.
If it is not 5.10.605.9, then you have an update to load that will fix this Very widely reported problem. It will also give you a five bar received signal strength indicator.
I had this exact same issue for months before downloading the update. Since I installed it, my alarm clock has gone off every single day since.

Hi, so I have a stock r800x, with Verizon. The phone is fairly new and I've only factory reset it once. I normally check for updates here and there, hoping to get an OTA update.
The issue I'm having is that a couple of weeks ago or so I noticed when I hit Update Now, and the screen then gives the option, Info or Check for Updates, I check for updates, the little blue box pops up to check for a second, then it all closes and it's back at the About Phone screen. Sometimes when I'm sitting at the screen for Info or Check for Updates it just closes. If I have WiFi on it warns that it needs to turn it off first, I say Ok, it turns it off, 3g pops up, then close, WiFi never turns back on automatically.
I know this isn't how it's supposed to act since it used to work properly. It used to say "your up to date" or something along those lines, and if WiFi was on, it would reinitialize it after it checked.
Now this wasn't bugging me before, because I knew there wasn't an OTA out yet. Now of course there is, but I can't get it. I have a feeling a factory reset would fix the issue, and if that's all I can do, that's what I'll end up doing. Though setting up my phone and all my apps and settings and re-downloading everything can be annoying and very time consuming. So I wanted to see if anyone might have any ideas on what I might be able to do, before I decide to wipe it all.
Here's some info:
MobileCare version: 6.1.0_B191_SE
Build: 3.0.E.2.89
Android: 2.3.2
PRL Version: 52363
Thanks for any replies in advance.
I had the same problem and fixed it this weekend pretty easily
Just go to Manage Applications and find "Mobile Care" and select "Clear Data". After it clears go back into update and it should work.
Rogue Leader this is Carlos Spicy Weiner over. lol couldn't help myself but yea 2.3.3 just came out you may just want to keep trying
Awesome it's downloading the update, gave you a thanks. Appreciate it, saved me a wipe, and a lot of hassle.
Hello there!
I'm having a bit of bother with my HTC Desire Z, I've searched around the internet for an answer but with no prevail.
My settings have disappeared, on my all programs list the settings icon has disappeared and whenever I drag the drop-down bar at the top and select "All Settings" the drop-bar force closes. If I do this twice the drop-down bar disappears.
I have tried factory resetting, twice, however the problem kept occurring. Otherwise the phone seems operational, I did have a few problems the night before as it kept freezing when updating all the apps however it got over that.
I had considered trying to put a custom ROM on it seeing if that would resolve the problem however I cannot turn on USB debugging and the process of putting a custom ROM looks complicated.
It's a stock phone, so it's not related to any network, I got it off eBuyer.com
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you
So, i'm running unrooted desireZ with 2.3.3 android
And the thing is that using the phone in normal mode when in the call menu after calling someone i want to make a call to someone else, i get an instant message like "disable airplane mode first" and the signal bar gets an X icon (which means no signal). Then with power button i turn off the airplane mode from submenu and i can call normally.
Other thing is that i've heard from my friends that they are unable to call me as they get "user is out of reach message" even though my phone is in my pocket and me assuming that it's normally working.
Also i've noticed that my phone is running slowly, sometimes the stock Message app crashes (is unable to load messages) even though i try to keep my phone on minimum additional apps (no task killers or "cool" gadgets).
So will the airplane trick (as seen on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647980) would help me to fix one issue, or i need to some bigger changes on my soft to get the phone working good again?
Thanks.
BUMP anyone?
Also sometimes my stock Messaging app crashes, need to restart the phone to access the messages again.
It makes me furious, because i try to keep my phone clean from any fancy market apps.
Why are you still on 2.3.3? Is it possible to upgrade a bit to (ie) 2.3.4?
They tell me "There are no updates available for your phone" when i hit Check Now is software updates section.

Times like these call for "Freddy Fast Fingers"
Step 1: "Menu"
Step 2: "Wireless settings"
Step 3: "Click Airplane"
Step 4: Done
I updated to 4.3 by OTA last week. I had no issue during the update. The update was from 4.1.x which was the latest version before this 4.3. It was never rooted. I see two weird things in this new version. I would like to hear if anybody saw the same, and know how to solve the problems.
1) en download notification keeps appearing. (see the attached picture) When I hit the notification, it directs me to an URL link, but nothing shows up. The notification pops up every minute almost.
2) When someone calls me, the flashlight in the back of GS3 blinks. It never happened before. I do see it as a cool feature, but I don't want to use it every day. I couldn't find an option to turn it off.
Thanks.

Not sure about the notification but the flash setting can be fixed by going into settings, then to the My Device tab, then to accessibility. scroll down to find Flash Notification (under Hearing).
I did the official update on my wife's GS3 and immediately did a Factory Data reset and everything is working very well and smooth. Battery is actually pretty good too.
I am always aware when I'm connected to WiFi so I've had the setting in WiFi settings for notifications when connected or nearby WiFi turned off. But when I did the 5.1.1 update it seems to be showing the persistent notification again. When I went into the settings the box is still unchecked and when I toggle it is does nothing at all. Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it? Any information would be appreciated.
Things I've already tried 1) restart phone both with it checked and unchecked 2) factory reset phone 3) force stopped notification
The pesky noticed can not be removed as far as I know.

That's weird. It was on 5.0.1
Looks like a bug...
in order to get rid of the notification (i know how to do this cause of the same exact bug on the S4 a few years back)
1. Settings
2. Applications
3. Application Manager
4. Swipe to all
5. Tap on android system
6. Tap on force stop.
That should get rid of the notification.
Not worth the hastle everytime the wifi is turned on!

Just wanted to update everyone who might have the same problem. It seems like they fixed this in another security update Verizon pushed out recently. I am now on Build Number LMY47X.N910VVRU2BPA1. I'm glad they addressed this because it was really annoying.
