I have this phone rooted, but still am using stock. I have the 10 gig plan from tmobile so I have free wifi tethering. My question is..
My speed seems slower than on my phone when I wifi tether. is this because I'm using stock? And if I put another rom on, will it give me better speeds when I tether? I'm just curious..
Thanks in advance.
what are you tethering too? a laptop? there might be a app to change the settings to open the bandwidth with i suppose...i use a wifi router at home and use the 5ghz..and opened the settings to push and open more bandwidth..maybe theres a app regarding better then stock settings?.

That does show an increase, but it doesn't multiply my speed by 5. It just doubles it. I really want to get as close to the speed I get directly on my phone. Would flashing another Rom help? or any other wifi app?
so far i haev tried everything and this is the best results that i have gotten .

Engadget had an article that states Tmobile will now charge for tethering starting sunday Nov. 14th. I am wondering if us who have been able to root the G2 get charged for using the tethering option? If so i can always use wireless tether but the built in android hotspot is much better in my opinion. If anyone knows the answer that'll be great as i dont want to get charged without knowing.
No. From what I've been able to gather, there's no way for T-Mobile (or anyone else) to tell the difference if you're tethering or just using standard(phone) mobile data.
Well something I just noticed today was a redirect to an upsell page. This is using the G2 with PDAnet, I have had no luck getting the native tethering to work. I will keep trying and see if I run into that same issue. I'll also post a pic of the page that it'll take you to.

here's the lovely site you'll get trying to get you to buy the subscription to tether. I have also noticed that G1 and MT3G1.2 and they're still able to tether just fine.
Well I just tethered without getting that message so I guess us rooters got around their trap!! Niiiice

tmo probably made and agreement to not remove pda net from the market if they made it to where tmo could check if the user is tethtering with pdanet
Actually, I am rooted and I was using PDANet, followed by Wifi Tether and I got the page both times.
this sounds like either they are filtering for user agent(easy to bypass), but then again i could be wrong. i used to use pdanet, and even paid for it(didn't like wifi tether on G1 because battery temp would get too high) and now if i can't use that app i'm going to be very upset. try changing your user agent to "Android" and see if you can tether
they will only notice if you pass the 3gb - 5gb limit, refrain from downloading while using tether.
Hello guys out there i've got a problem . . my arc shows full signal strength to me but in the Batteryusagestats the Bar for signal is not green just grey-ish.. and my phone always searches for new networks which results in bad battery life/lags. Here is a photo:

If it wouldn't have signal it'd be red.
Don't know why it's black for you, maybe a bug. Try to update your phone

I've got the same, have no problems at all with calls or something else.
that's the thing, ive got no probs either, my batterylife is just amazing.. i left it over night and it drained 7% in standby it sucks as you can see.. but during the day i had music on for 7 hours and almost 3 hours of screenon time(~30 mins browsing & xda & facebook) + 2h30 of HD gaming.. but the phone lags .. the UI i mean no games or else.. :S and i think thats due to it searching for networks..
Ok , you can try to set the networkoperator manualy and not set to auto.

I constantly loose signal even while on calls in great service areas. Sometimes I am sitting still in my house. I cannot tell if it is a hardware issue or not. I have tried multiple custom roms( ARHD, GummyNex, AOKP) and 4.02 and 4.04 radios. Nothing has helped and I still drop my signal at least 5-6 times per day. It takes around 20 seconds to recover once the call is lost and the network is restored. Is anyone else having this issue? Should I exchange the phone?
Thanks!
Mike

Please see this thread and post here. I am trying to get everyone with this issue to to post in ONE thread so it can be better managed. Are you on a GSM device or is it a CDMA/LTE device?
If its a CDMA/LTE one then the problem is well known and different and I recommend that you use the search function to find related threads. If on GSM then please click the link below and post there...

I forgot to post I'm on Verizon so its cdma. I couldn't find anyone with the exact same problem. Do you know where the threads are? The only posts I saw described it getting locked in airplane mode which required a reboot to fix.

I have seen many posts in general, Q&A and even in the Development threads. You just need to take a bit of time and look for them and you will find them...
I am also having the exact same issue. Annoying. Phone is only three days old.... Did you have any luck figuring it out?

Clear the data for swype, you lose the dictionary but it will work after that.

Updated last night just before bedtime and i'm having a few issues
How are you doing that?
I cleared the dictionary from the Settings --> Language and Input --> Swype settings.
That didn't resolve it. I'm noticing that many of the settings in this category are entirely unresponsive as well.
If I go into Swype from Settings--> Applications, the Clear Data button is greyed out.
Force Stop doesn't enable the button, Disable doesn't enable the button.
It also just continuously shows "calculating" for the space stats.

I'm ALSO noticing that this morning, I used my phone for 20 minutes to send some texts and try to get swype working, and used 6% of my battery!
Looking at the Battery chart, I see my "mobile network signal" is staccato, interrupted black and green, green only 50-60% of the time. Not sure if this is contributing.
And I've lost 4% more as I've been typing this on my PC - phone not even on. Total time since unplugged about 45 minutes now.
Any help on the above?
---------- Post added at 04:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:59 PM ----------
I made a separate thread for this since much of it is outside the scope of swype.

Just as an FYI - the latest Swype beta worked out of the box after doing the manual update to FF18 official.
I had a weird thing happen with my signal today. It kept going out, and data just wouldn't work! Although the 3G icon was there nothing would download. Here is a pic of the connection status! Look at the mobile network type!

i had this happen to me for like two weeks on and off. After a while it would do this to me while the bars were blue! I tried toggling my data on and off, toggling airplane on and off, rebooting and even calling sprint to have them restart my data. This even followed me from rom to rom. The only way I got rid of it was to download the complete FH05 jellybean tar and odin back to stock jelly bean. I tried to odin to FD02 and except the ota but it followed me there too. Its wierd, and it started after I flashed a certain rom(wont name it cuz i cant be sure it had anything to do with it) and then the rom gave me some probs I wiped and restored my nandroid of cm10 I had before I flashed the mystery rom and thats when it started. And cm10 was working awesome for like three weeks before the mystery rom flash. I mean problems dont just pop up, theyre either there or theyre not.
Well I ended up calling Sprint today to find out what the problem was and they told me it was due to some tower being worked on! Maybe it has to do with the LTE?
I've had that happen to me a couple of times. Mainly its when I had it set to run on GSM/Edge/LTE/HSPA+ mode.
Its just due to the way your phone finds the best tower. It shouldn't hurt your phone, or affect your data in any way. Just switch your roaming profile to home only. It should fix it.
And to the Photoshop guy...
Are you that stupid? Seriously, use your mind. It doesn't look photoshopped. Even if it was, it would be a decent work.
