[Q] Undervolting - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey, I have a new question. How do I undervolt my epic 4g touch? This extends battery life exponentially right? Like from 8 hrs to 20? I have the Blazer Rom, and I was speaking to someone the other day and he also mentioned overclocking versus underclocking. How are these modifications done?

It wont give you that big of a screen on time increase but it will help.. assuming your rooted with a custom kernel that supports it you can go to calkulins rom post and in his 2nd or 3rd post he has flashable undervolts for yah gl!

[Q] Favorite Custom Kernel?

I'd like to flash a custom kernel but I'm not sure which one to flash. So I was wondering which was your guys' favorite one and why? Thank you
Personally I think syndicate frozen is great. Super flexible and undervolted at 1ghz for good battry life

It depends on what Rom you are using, if it's a custom Rom you'll probably get the best performance on the Kernel made for it (i.e. Syndicate Frozen + Twilight Zone)
Ohh, i think I understand now. Thanks for the help.

This can be true - but users of other ROMs have reported Twilight Zone to be a favorite. We also recommend it to Midnight users.
I like the.bonsai rom with their own kernel. Very fast and great battery.

+1 Indeed 2 days in a row i got 14 hours heavy heavy use, and i mean heavy
Plus thats good for me because i have way too many apps for my own good.. lol
92% screen lol
Genocide 0.2a fast and steady. Nice features in combo with setcpu if that is your cup of tea. Complements nebula rom well.
Seven Sisters EPIC - XDA App
14 hours on a stock battery with heavy use? Is that even possible?
I'm on Syndicate Frozen 1.0.1 but I must be on the wrong rom!

I'm on ACS Rom + kernel. With 5 hours of usage from 100% to 30%, I receive and send about 200 emails, about 100 text messages a day, constant push messages on Beluga app (as much as 300 incoming), maybe 5 calls or less (about a minute average). I'd say that's heavy usage. No game, no surfing the web.
EB13 Supernova rom with the latest Genocide kernel is the best I've found. Very stable with cool animations and Voodoo sound. Don't forget to flash the mod that enables sound thru the aux out of the OEM docks (SGS audio dock fix). I'm finally enjoying my Epic to the max.

Need a good kernel suggestion

Just flashed nocturnals shooter rom and battery life sucks any good sense kernels out there to undervolt or ocerclock to save battery all responses are geeatly appreciared as always

Use chop suey. That's a a good kernel. Imo

Just go around and test out a bunch of kernels for yourself. That's really the only way to find the best one that works for you. Reason being that no two phones are exactly alike. So while one kernel may work best for my phone there may be a different kernel that works best for yours. Also, different people have different expectations of their kernels. Yeah we all want better battery life. But our thresholds for tolerance rest at a different level. So in the end the only person who can tell you what kernel is best for your phone is you. Those of us replying to this thread are merely making you aware of kernels to flash and test.
Having said that, I recommend you check out the link I've attached below in order to get some ideas on where to start.

I like the Aggressive Freedom kernel.
I use chop suey 9.2.7 no setcpu or any of that. Just install and let it do its thing. Buy remember it takes a couple of charging cycles for the kernel to settle in. I get like 17 hours off of a charge with pretty heavy use. Also all phones arnt the same so what works on one might not work on another

Battery Tweaks

I come from the Eris forums, where battery tweak threads were plentiful. Can anyone direct me to such a thread concerning (rooted) INC2s? I'm on CM7, and battery life is so-so on heavy usage. I like to think rooting brings opportunities for ridiculously good battery life, but not w/o some tweaking. Help?
For the most part a majority of devs include there own tweaks into their respected roms. Most will flash a custom kernel which allows overclocking and undervolting. Like I am running miui with areos kernel oc 1.2 and undervolted -50. It is now 9pm and I have been unplugged since 8 and still have 70% with medium heavy use.

Check out rom toolbox but you gotta pay for the pro version to get battery mods

I'd rather not pay $5 for something that is only simplifying what I can do myself for free, ya know? I know in the Eris forums they had recommended CPU settings that I could do myself in the CM settings; do we have stuff like that for the INC2?
i usually get at least a day in a half with heavy use. You just need to experiment with custom kernals and different voltages. Not really a simple answer, you need to do the research yourself.
How do I alter voltage? I don't remember that feature on the Eris...

Incredicontrol from the market.
Try Drellisdee's kernel, #21. It's already undervolted and can be overclocked.

On cm7 you'll need aerovans .8 kernel which you can get on rootzwiki. Then install incredicontrol from the market. I undervolted mine 75-100 on all and had no issues with excellent battery.

#1 cause of battery drain: Global mode enabled. Make sure to disable it in settings/calls and set it to cdma only. My battery basically doubled after doing that. I figured that out the first week I had it.

I'm happy with my hitman kernel.

Does everything work? I gave zedos a spin but the wifi doesnt work so I am running the stock one. but I want to overclock and switch the boot animation, just not at the cost of wifi.

Personally I use hitman. If you're looking for performance, I've gotten over 6600 on quadrant. Also I undervolt it and get amazing ~20 hour battery life without any lag at all!
Question, I have the Blazer Rom 3.8 and the Hitman kernel. Loving the combination. I have setcpu setup so its overclocked. Just wondering How do I get my phone undervolted? trying to get the best out of the battery life.
I use Hitman also with Blazer and it works fine.

Btw you can also use SetCPU to undervolt with the "Voltages" tab for the paid version.

For undervolting I use Calkulin's scripts which work on hitman and Gunslinger kernels they can be found here:

Darkside digital warfare

I was wondering why after updating from and stock Telus ROM and darksides kernel from his kernel thread to the DDW ROM my processor has been slowed down to 1.35 GHz I saw in notes he does this for safety or something but my Telus G2X has a 1.5 GHz CPU stock am I better off running my stock ROM with just a kernel. Also my 4g icon has disappeared. I also ran some bench tests before and after with those previously mentioned ROM kernel combos and I went from 1.75 overclocked to 1.35 and it shows me being slower then a stock galaxy s2 X.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
Download a clock controller app from the market and set the clock to whatever you like, i use setcpu. Pretty straight forward.
The point of the underclock and undervoltage in Darksides ROM isn't to gain stability or because of a problem with stock speeds....it's only purpose is to give you better battery life.
Stability with custom ROMS is the problem you will run into when you test enough of them.
I think the most stable one I ran was Gingersnap.
Peace.
Is it safe to overclock to 1.85? Does it just suck life out of battery

Darksides kernel oc's to 1.78 ghz but comes stock at 1.35
If you torque it up all the way, the phone will def perform better but the battery life will suffer.
I was using the bullet kernel on juggernaut and it is at 1.67 ghz... Battery life went down quickly if inwas using the phone a lot.

Yeah I set it to cap at 1.52 I just hope these profiles work

dude just stop with your anti custom ROM posts. There's a reason why a lot of people use custom roms, it's been completely stable for us.
you are a case of user error
