I come from the Eris forums, where battery tweak threads were plentiful. Can anyone direct me to such a thread concerning (rooted) INC2s? I'm on CM7, and battery life is so-so on heavy usage. I like to think rooting brings opportunities for ridiculously good battery life, but not w/o some tweaking. Help?
For the most part a majority of devs include there own tweaks into their respected roms. Most will flash a custom kernel which allows overclocking and undervolting. Like I am running miui with areos kernel oc 1.2 and undervolted -50. It is now 9pm and I have been unplugged since 8 and still have 70% with medium heavy use.

I'd rather not pay $5 for something that is only simplifying what I can do myself for free, ya know? I know in the Eris forums they had recommended CPU settings that I could do myself in the CM settings; do we have stuff like that for the INC2?
i usually get at least a day in a half with heavy use. You just need to experiment with custom kernals and different voltages. Not really a simple answer, you need to do the research yourself.
How do I alter voltage? I don't remember that feature on the Eris...

Incredicontrol from the market.
Try Drellisdee's kernel, #21. It's already undervolted and can be overclocked.

On cm7 you'll need aerovans .8 kernel which you can get on rootzwiki. Then install incredicontrol from the market. I undervolted mine 75-100 on all and had no issues with excellent battery.

#1 cause of battery drain: Global mode enabled. Make sure to disable it in settings/calls and set it to cdma only. My battery basically doubled after doing that. I figured that out the first week I had it.

I'm using XDA app and been searching forums on what kernals do, I'm running cm7 latest nighty with tiamat latest version. Not sure what all the features are , I know it does overclocking and under and voltage adjustments, just wondering if it was worth going to tiamat from cm7 kernal and if it gives better performance and better battery? Thanks

Different kernels work better for different phones... give them a try (give it a few days) and see which works best for you! Like you said, undervolting, under/overclock, BFS, HAVS, CFS, all features to increase battery life and/or performance!
Thanks for reply

The kernel is the part of the operating system that is in direct control of the hardware, its the lowest level of the OS. It controls the frequency the CPU runs at, how much power to pull from the battery, how to schedule I/O, how many frames per second animations run at, and things of that nature.
In my opinion, rooting is almost useless without flashing a custom kernel. Thats really the only way to increase the performance of your phone.

Ok, I have an evo, running fresh gingerbread rom, and.....the battery still blows, i have tried most if the popular roms and was not impressed, i have set cpu as well, i dont see any change, im not really that good at this stuff so can somebody PLEASE hook me up with a method to make my phone last a day, roms, kernals, set cpu profiles, anything.....thank you all greatly

If you are on 4g, wireless tether, playing roms, texting, and making calls, then don't expect the phone to last more than 5 hours.
First thing you need to do is start off with a fresh rom... pick your favorite so far.
Reboot
Install kernal (I like tiamat for AOSP or Netarchy for Sense but I suggest you try your own)
Reboot
Install undervolting script
Reboot
Open Google Talk>Settings>uncheck automatically log on then log off google talk
Install SetCpu
If you don't really game or anything then lower your voltages to 125 min 700ish max (you can be more aggressive if you want, but I wouldn't)
Charge phone to a 100%
reboot into recovery
wipe battery stats
Use your phone till it dies
Recharge
I think you will now have a strong phone that can last a good day depending on how you use it
If you still want to increase your battery life after all that
Lower brightness
lower the updating frequency of stocks, accounts, etc
make it a habit of turning off radios when not in use or install Juice defender
Create profile in SetCPU to lower CPU when screen off
All really good suggestions above...
but sometimes it could be just the battery it self... if all else doesn't work try another battery. The previous stock battery was horrible for me even after trying all the settings and etc. Once I got a new battery and did all the setting changes this thing is ready for anything.
What rom are you using? For the best battery life with a rom like cm7 I recommend using an SBC kernel from tiamat 4.0.2 SBC+ and give it a few days to settle in...then when your battery is low around 20% or less charge it for at least 4-6 hours while phone is sleeping..then turn off your phone while plugged in and charge for another hour..then unplug til green light goes off then plug in again til light goes green REPEAT 10 TIMES! then turn on phone while plugged in wait 2 minutes then unplug and battery is improved...do it every time you charge it from low %... this is for SBC kernels...also follow what the others said above me... I use an extended battery on conservative running it at 245 and 768 its been 12 hrs and I'm at 71% with moderate to heavy use...hope this helped
midget tossing is habit...2010 midwest regional champion... hw 001

Try Evodecks 1.0 or 1.2c... Very nice and everything works on it... I'm using Tiamat 4.0.2 w/ sbc, its been 23 hrs and still at 59% thats moderate use though! But just search around and eventually you'll find something that suites your taste... MIUI is also a good rom! Just my 2 cents...

World peace with no regard for human life.
If you like Sense, I recommend the MikG 2.45 rom. You can then experiment with the new Freedom kernels (currently at version 0.8, with varying versions (stock, less, more, aggressive) which have different degrees of undervolting built in for improved battery life.
I went ahead and tried CM7 on the EVO 4G and it works flawlessly.
I'm sure I can save more battery life if I use SetCpu profiles? Is it o.k. to use setCPU profiles with the kernel that comes with CM7? Or is there a better kernel to use?
Also, i prefer SetCPU profiles because I can use the screen-off profile to underclock and save battery when my phone is not in use.
Miui is not based off of cyanogenmod. Miui is better anyway. IMO that is.

I love sense 3.0 Roms and you should definitely try one of kings Roms and any other out there. Anyways, if you like aosp then you should def try decks. Great on battery and works flawlessly. His Rom also has the cyanogen settings to overclock and go into detail with your phone

I have to say Decks ROM is the best I've used. Its very stable and smooth as silk. Using the SavagedZen with BFS Kernel got me excellent battery life...
So far its out of Kinged kingdom or Kings Alliance. My kid sat on my phone and played gun bros for about 4 hours yesterday around midday 10ish - 2 o'clock and the battery still had a little juice left(had not been charged since like 7am). Alliance is a little better to me only cuz it has the hacked hotspot(no error 67).
The Baked Snack ROMs are renowned for battery life.

Can someone please recommend a good battery saving kernel, please....I'm pulling my hair out finding one. For such a popular phone the choices seems really sparse

I agree with this kernel. I use SBC as well, it will stop the 10% drop in battery whenever you unplug it.

for undervolt if it is sysfs HAVS enabled you need to get vipermod. If it just says undervolt then it may have a pre-set undervolt determined by the dev.

On GB is was running this same setup and my battery life was nothing short of amazing. I had a good 15-24 hours depending on use.
best cm7 kernel?
i just recently started using mason. its pretty awesome. before that i used tiamat sbc also no problems. just try which ever ones you think you may like every couple days to see which one works best for you. i also give the kernel about 10 minutes to bake in every time before i unlock it. i dont know if thats been proven to help but it cant hurt and seems to work well for me.
I've been running mason sbc for about a week now. I had to use a combination of vipermod and smurfed out scripts to get the kernel set where I wanted it. I noticed the kernel was set for BFS by default, which I've never been a big fan of, due to its power consumption....so smurfed out let me set the scheduler to CFS, which is much more conservative and doesn't sacrifice any i/o speed, imho. Then I used vipermod to uv -25MHz so it wasn't such a battery-hog. Underclocked, undervolted, and set to CFS seems to be my winning combo!!! I get no less than 3 hours of constant screen time (streaming video, browsing the web, etc.) and enough standby to last me all day so I don't have to carry my charger with me anymore.
With every other android I've ever owned, setcpu does everything I've mentioned changing in this post...so when it wasn't working, I had no idea what to do.
Thanks so much guys!!! I couldn't have done it without all your help....HTC is in a world all its own in the android scene since they use so many different things that no other manufacturers do. It made me want to pull my hair out until you guys came along to help me out
I'm thinking of flashing a different kernel to my Samsung Galaxy Nexus so I can overclock the CPU/GPU. I've noticed that franco.Kernel and Trinity seem to be among the most popular kernels, but I'm not sure which one to choose. In your opinion, what is the best kernel for overclocking and why? FWIW, I have the Verizon model of the phone (toro) and am currently running CyanongenMod 4.1.2, which is based off of Android 4.2.2.

Hi,
I've decided to bump this thread because all other GNex OC threads are very dated.
I recently received the extended battery 200mah and I'm ready to overclock. I wish to retain battery life to have screen time 3-4 hour on moderate usage.
I'm current rooted on stock ROM, and I wish to simply stay with stock ROM provided battery life will remain the same (perhaps I have to undervolt)
I want to hit 1.5GHz CPU and 384MHz GPU...which is what the OMAP and PowerVR SoC's true default clocks.
Given my circumstances of stock ROM, which kernel would give me the best stability/battery life? Any kernel that somehow has OC settings built in or do they all require me to buy setCPU?
