Hey all, anyone know a way of increasing the maximum brightness level? It seems that with dark videos all over is reflections, hopefully I could increase the maximum brightness and this will lessen the reflections.
Any ideas?
(PS, I would put in a q&a section, but there isn't one for the gen9, why isn't there a complete section for the g9?)
I'm afraid nothing can be done. Max brightness depends on hardware, there is no way to tweak it.

Damn, that is a shame. I was hoping there was a software restriction in build.prop or similar that prevents the brightness going too high in order to extend battery life or backlight life.
Oh well, thanks!

IIRC restriction is only for lowest backlight level (so you won't make a totally black screen with backlight=0)

Hello All
Just came across this forum and a thread on the pink screen issue.
Do you reckon this one has the same issue?
All of the phones are the exact same and have the exact same "issue". I use my phone on maximum brightness all the time so I never notice it. It's only noticeable if you use the phone on the lowest brightness setting (Why anyone would buy an AMOLED phone just to use it on the lowest brightness is beyond me)

Is that true? Does everyone have a pinkish screen if u run it in the lowest brightness? (Havent gotten my Desire yet.)

Yes i'm fairly sure they do. But at anything over the lowest brightness it doesn't occur. Again, why you would buy an AMOLED to use it on lowest brightness is beyond me

Check the appropriate thread: there is a huge difference between handsets. Most are like this, some are totally unaffected and some are basically defective.
Yes poor answers, I do not have any pink even on the lowest brightness settings. This means your device is defective and you should get it replaced as many others have done. And yes there is a thread dedicated to this issues:

Im a total OCD for these kind of things. pink issue, dust under screen, dead pixels etc... I don't have the pink issue. It was one of the biggest concerns for me when I ordered the phone. I had seen sample photos from the nexus one that had pink etc. I think there are two issues. A screen issue, and a camera issue? anyway, I don't have pink in my screen at low setting (which I use ALL the time indoors to consevre battery) or any other setting. I also don't have pink in any pictures or videos I made with the phone.

What do you think of the examples i posted?
I only notice the off-pink tint in GMail. Nothing major tbh.
I cannot see any pink on your photos at all, but I went to my brightness settings and copied what you did in the screen shots and YES my gray looks like it has a red/pink/rose tint at the VERY lowest setting. At 5% brightness it's fine, gray. at 0% setting it has the rose tint. This is NORMAL and a limitation of the display technology (pentile matrix). If this is what you mean, your screen is normal. It's only certain shades of gray that will be affected by this and normally only at minimal brightness settings. I thought you meant you had a pink blob on the screen centre etc? If you just mean the gray menu and ntificaiton bar etc appearing slightly rose coloured at lowest setting, this is normal. I presume the grays are fine when the you move the brightness bar up from 0% to 5% or 10% setting?

I keep my phone on auto brightnes all the time but kind of feel the screen is always to dim or ver slow to react to lighting differences before the screen actually adjusts. Anyone else feel this way?

I agree that it is too dim most of the time. It might help to have a scaling setting built in, so those of us with dim vision might specify greater overall brightness, or at least a minimum floor value (never less than this level).
Yea this is sad unfortunately coming from the g2x, which was perfectly fast and smooth with dimming. Seems glitchy on this one. Everything else j love about this phone though.

The display hurts my eyes when I woke up in the middle of the night, even at the lowest brightness.
I found an app called Screen Filter that lowers the brightness even further. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5oYXhvciJd
Does anyone know if this is safe to use? Will it harm the AMOLED display at all?
It's funny, the lowest brightness is too bright for me when I need it, and the highest brightness is too dim for me when I need it.
I use Screen Filter on my original Galaxy S, and it works great.
I've never had an issue with it.
Been using screen filter on my Galaxy Nexus for months, great app. Now using on my Beautiful GS3.

Exactly my experience too. I love AMOLED's, but would it kill them to work on incorporating some Pixel Q technology. And really how hard can it be to just widen the range of brightness to capture the movie theater low if a stupid free app can do it?
There should be a huge range and we should be able to select the lowest and highest. Then let auto-bright take care of the rest. Or maybe even should have the ability to calibrate the auto-bright since a 20yr old's eye sees about double the amount of light of a 60yr old's eye...
Lux works much, MUCH better in my opinion

Try it, you will be sold! lol, im actually gonna go post about it, EVERYONE should know about it lol, after you set up 5-6 different ''levels'' and (imo) set it to adjust on screen open, its amazing
All it does is put a transparent black filter over the display. Not going to harm it. I had this app for my iPhone.

Thanks for sharing that. There are some apps that totally change the user experience. This seems like it will be one of them based on initial use. Too bad Samsung didn't calibrate this better out of the box.
can filter apps these make whites BRIGHTER and whiter? Whites are dim and yellow/pinkish next to LCDs. Very dim and dirty looking say on Google News or email.
ive been using this for a while as well. great for when in a movie lol! really handy

Exactly. Nothing to worry about. It won't harm your screen at all.
I've been using Screen Filter for a while now... but I may give that Lux a try. It looks pretty cool.
Hi guys, looks like OnePlus have got some quality control issues. My unit has terrible colour issues with the display. It's very noticeable at low brightness levels and still apparent around the 50% mark. I've reached out to OnePlus about sorting out a replacement unit. Since they don't offer advanced RMA I don't hold out much hope for a quick solution!

You have to go for RMA
this is why I switched my order to Amazon.
should be much simpler then dealing with OP.
hope you get a better unit and this is not wide.
so far other people with pop up orders not had this issue so maybe its not wide issue
Sorry to hear this. Just tested my UK one and no such issues.
Reminds me of the mate 20 pro
A few other people on the Telegram OP8 group have this. Wonder how many are affected?
Can happen with any phone with oleds. Get it replaced
Seems this is similar issue as with s20 ultra panels. They also have quite a few green screens at low backlight. Mine seems more or less uniform but still has strange tint on low brightness. Someone mentioned to try to turn DC dimming in experimental settings to lower the impact of low brightness, but I havent tested that.

Yikes this is troubling. Sure hope it's isolated and really sorry to see this for you. I would think OP wants this gone fast so you should get some great service here. Hopefully anyway.
I have a similar problem with mine. It looks like clouding with a dark grey background at low brightness. I have also figured that it's far worse with 120 hz vs 60 hz.

Same issue for mine!!

OnePlus said I have 30 days from the day I received the device to send it back in, see if it passes their inspection, and then hopefully have a new one sent to me. It takes 12 days to go through the process. What a shame.

I am located in Germany and we can return the whole thing within 2 weeks, no questions asked. I am not dealing with them to inspect the phone etc. I will just send it back. Too bad, as I ordered a blind box in a special promo action and got a lot of accessories in the box. But still not worth it.
Interestingly the "burn ins" or what ever it is look very similar. It's the worst on the buttom/side of the phone and around thr front camera, in all the pictures I have seen. Also it's worse at 120 hz compared to 60 hz for me. Why are those problems at similar spots though? ?
This isn't good. Wonder if the 1300nits/high refresh rate is damaging screens.
Has anyone got their device and using it at 120hz fairly bright with no issues. I was tempted to order one tomorrow but this is putting me off a little.

I've seen other people with the same problem now in some German forums. Definitely doesn't seem to be isolated. More like a Displaygate!
Hi to all.
I've received my F3 today. I'm so happy.
The only flaw I've seen on it is about its brightness : it seems to be a bit low and we must push it quite almost 100 % to have decent brightness. To those who have received the phone : did you notice that ? I'm not talking about dimming but regular brightness for regular use (not heavy use)
Thanks for your answers
I'm yet to able to order mine .
However, listening to reviewers the brightness curve apparently wasn't very even. Might be able to be fixed in a custom ROM
Yeah maybe.
I can not confirm. In very bright surroundings, like outside when the sun is shining, it gets very bright. I have nothing to complain about.
I don't have any complaints either, the maximum brightness is excellent. Compared it to my brother's OnePlus 6T and the F3 is for sure brighter.
Same as OP.
I got my F3 this morning and the brightness is the same as my old MI 9 SE. It should be not
I think it's a software issue.
Paradoxically display seems to be brighter as few hours ago. What are your settings ?
brightness seems fine to me,but unfortunatly it doesnt get as bright as a oneplus 8 indoor on max brighntess, but in the sun(max peak), the display of the poco is a bit brighter, so i am satisfied with the results.
yep my old s8+ has more brightness than this xiaomie noodles phone so sad i am disappoint with my purchase
Seems like a lot of people here like to have their brightness set to retina burn mode.
I haven't used a OLED display phone yet but I'm pretty sure it'll be brighter than an IPS one at 450 nits max, even then I only have the brightness set to about 75%.
No way to measure or really compare it to other recent OLED screens, but it gets bright enough for a sunny day outside here in the Netherlands. More sun to come hopefully... Also it seems to pump up the contrast a bit when in direct sunlight which is helpfull.
So no complaints here for outdoor readability.
Yea it's brightness is less than my oneplus 7t pro but it's Amoled is way better than my old phone when I watch YouTube video.

Hi all,
I have just experienced a brightness problem,
It went very low on its own while not being in auto mode,
It even affected the brightness while the phone was off and charging, which scared me a bit lol,
I was about to seriously consider a factory reset and the brightness came back to its original levels,
The "brightness bar" was still at max during the issue,
And i think it is because i've stayed for too long under the hard sun , playing videos for one hour or two and it happened while i was reading an article on Chrome.
Gud day!
