Got this after i flashed acs ics v4 on acs icsv 3.5. I cleaned cache and dalvik before i flashed v4. and now i have a pop up saying internal memory low.
clicking on that shows 485 mb used and 0 left.
also i cant access almost any apps since market force closes and i cant even install astro to access system folders.
tried moving apps to sd card but that fails also and my go launcher crashes and reboots.
How do i fix this?
Also just noticed.. power menu has POWER OFF only?????

Have you tried moving some apps to the SD card?
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > On SD card
Tried all that nothing worked.wiped everything and r installed v3.5
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
By chance how many apps have you installed aside from the ones inlcuded in the rom? If a lot you may want to uninstall whatever you can then use root explorer to delete unneccessary apps from "system/app". You also may have had a bad flash....like something may be corrupt. Try to reflash if nothing else works. ACS v4 works fine for me

Use Titanium Backup to move a lot of apps to your SD card. Just don't move system apps or widgets.

Your link to the "fix" points back to this thread you might want to fix that!
Hey try link2sd instead of app2sd using tb or something like it
I have more than 100 apps and still 95mb left

Other than resurrecting a year old thread... I've also been facing the same issue. I think apps have been getting bigger, and the base Cyanogenmod is also creeping up in size for our older devices.
I wonder if creating symbolic links from /data/app/ to /sdcard/app would work?

I know this thread pertains to your issue, but just an FYI--this is the forum for the original Epic 4G... not the Touch version.
The only way around this issue that I've found was a factory reset or getting annoyed and starting over with either a new or the same ROM. Sucks, but that's been the only solution I've found for this issue.
OK I have a Virgin Mobile USA Wildifire S. I have it s-off and rooted. Now what files can I delete so my phone can run safely so I can free up space? I removed most of the bloatware but I still don't have enough space.
Why is my contact storage taking up over 20mb. I don't have that many contacts and FB is set to only sync with my current contacts in the phone.
For some reason I'm constantly getting force closes for just about everything when I open it the first time. I tried fixing the permissions but after that nothing will run everything forces closes all the time.
Can anybody help me with these problems?

What did you remove? List them?
Does your contacts have photos?
In ClockWorkMod did you clear the partition cache and dalvik cache after removing the apks??

I can't remember everything I removed. But it was all that dumb software like games and stuff that come with the phone.
My contacts have photos but on my old phone the storage was never above 5mb and I had more contacts on that phone.
No but I will try that.
I did download an experimental ROM....... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367701] ...........this worked great until I noticed my mms wasn't working so I made a backup of that until the problem could be fixed.
So I reverted back to where I had these problems listed above and I will now try your third recommendation.
Anybody know what to do to fix mms issues?
try backing your contacts onto your Google account........I had the same problem with the contacts storage.....backed my phone contacts to the Google account and voila!!!!it took only 3 MB

Been done a long long long time ago when I first got an android. LOL
inconsistency in battery usage stats
Guys, I came across this bug on my wfs-
the battery usage statistics of my phone (settings>about phone>battery>battery use>) "d h m s on battery" gets reset when i restart the phone.
Pls test this on your phone. I noticed the issue after 2.3.5 upgrade:
1. fully charge your phone (required).
2. wait for 5-10 minutes and check the battery stats.
3. uncheck Fast Boot from Settings>Power (required).
4. turn off the phone and switch it on again.
5. check the battery stats -" d h m s on battery" again.
Does it retain its value from step 2. or is it reset?
Once the battery level comes down to 88-85%, it functions normally and the stats persists after a restart (shows same data as in step 2).
I did factory reset but its not resolved.
Can anyone tell me whether its a hardware issue or OS related?
Mine is virgin WFS updated to 2.3.5 via FOTA.
I would imagine that It's connected to changing the fastboot option. But I can't replicate right now.

Any skins you don't use would be high on the list of things to axe. they suck up over a meg a piece.
also, if you haven't already, forcing apps to the SD will free space nicely.
in a terminal emulator do this (case sensitive)
su
pm setInstallLocation 2
now semi-everything will be movable to SD.
What I need to ask is, does it happen right after you check fastboot, or do you have to reboot to get the reset.
Sent from my HTC_A510c using Tapatalk
Just the reboot resets the stats.
Chk the screenshot, the graph starts from 90% cos I rebooted at that point.

Hi guys,
I've been using Cyanogenmod 7, and it was going very slow. I decided to completely wipe the phone and SD card and start from scratch with Andromadus Mimicry ROM. It is much faster I find but I still get the random slowdowns.
My biggest problems seem to be with the Facebook app, it slows down the phone incredibly. even when you exit the app, unless you force close it, the whole phone goes to a crawl.
I also find even if I uninstall the facebook app, I get lots of random slowdowns, like random times during the day I'll go to read my SMS and it takes FOREVER to load (go sms app)
any ideas?

Are your partitions ext4? Did you debug and follow the steps in the Mimicry OP?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
4EXT is paid software eh? don't really want to pay for it if I can avoid it, any other way of checking??
Wheres the debug steps?
4ext is a free custom recovery, there is an app similar to rom manager that is a paid app. if you don't want to support the developer for whatever reason your choice, but you can still flash the 4ext recoverey via fastboot or a pc10img
can you get a logcat? if your slowdowns are easily duplicated then plug phone into computer, and run a logcat through adb when you are experiancing this
*facebook apps is terrible* (so is facebook)
study the op of mimcry, search the threads for similar problems.
just an fyi - mimcry is one of the best ics roms for the vision and if you are having strange slowdowns then either a bug needs to be reported or you did something wrong
(didn't fully wipe, still in ext3, etc)
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
thanks man, I tried android market and can only find a paid app called 4ext. I use clockworkmod recovery as thats what cyanogenmod 7 recommended, I have not activley done anything to setup ext4 though as there was nothing in mimcry instructions for this.
i cant easily duplicate the issue as it happens totally at random.
i fully wiped and reset to factory defaults before installing mimcry also

go into tsubus' ilwt cm7 thread, there you will find a link to superwipeg2+ext4, this will wipe all and change format of everything but sd card to ext4
don't check the market for custom recoveries, you go there for apps, look for the 4ext thread in the dev section or just google it

okay thanks for your help! i got 4ext installed and checked info, so my system partition is ext4, data and cache are ext3... sd card is fat32

all but sd card should be ext4
sd card should be fat32

you're great help thanks heaps.
so now I've got 4ext and i ran superwipeg2+ext4, then reinstalled my mimcry rom, just reinstalling all my apps i want now, will see how it goes
checked info and everything is now ext4 apart from sd card which is fat32. hope this makes a good difference!
damnit, no improovement still slow as fawk, just started up endomondo and signed in, now have a black screen and a crashed phone for the last 5 mins... oh wait now it loaded... grr
Please read the FAQ in the Mimicry OP. You need to find the apps causing the slowdowns and either uninstall them or wipe their data if you're restoring app data from Titanium backup.

I am having a very hard time finding which apps are causing this, and none were restored, all were installed totally fresh from market after fresh install of the ROM.
I've read everything in the FAQ and can't seem to find any answer

Yep, though I would use Watchdog first to see if it alerts on any high cpu processes.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Sounds good man, just installed watchdog and will see how it goes thanks for your advice
strangely enough watchdog has not found a single problem yet even though my phone keeps slowing down every now and then, seems to be slightly less frequent now after all the apps have settled in I guess? still certainly doing it though
also one other issue I found is a program I use called AirDroid stops working properly through its web interface if the phone locks, which I didnt have this problem on CM7
Mind if i but in, but this problem is discussed and handled well in the AOKP nik3rs rom EliteMod & EliteKernel ICS* (which I highley recommend!)
But Its seems one of the problems that can cause this is bcuz you some people still have there apps backed up from there GB rom with their account and switching to ICS rom will only install the GB forms of the app from the market its highley recommended to backup data from apps in Titanum, and Install all new apps to your account and then restore data from Titanium.
Also I have alsot noticed that in 4ext sometimes Superwipe isn't always the answer Try Using the "Format All (except SDCARD)" option in 4ext it seems to clear away alot more bugs then superwipe! hope that helps..
Also try elitemods dataswap and sdext patch if you stay on mimicry!
Thanks man might have to give that ROM a try. And once again I fully wiped and loaded the ROM and I installed each application freshly from the google play store. nothing was backed up or restored so thats not the problem

Maybe I should have been more clear in my last post, Are you using SD-EXT? or data swap? and The way I have to flash is sometimes is after dalvike/cache ofcourse
1- Factory/data reset
2.-Then apply the zip superwipe (let it reboot)
3.-Then apply the FORMAT ALL EXCEPT SDCARD option in 4ext
....and just to note you are mounting everything before you wipe right?
Hope this can help.
And if not I would again highly recommend the EliteMod Rom its the best!!
OK, so I know... lousy first post... But, I just want a bit of overall guidance because I think I might be doing something fundamentally wrong and I'm hoping to fix that. So first let me say thanks for all the awesome ROMS and lot of cool fixes and ideas, I always check here first and appreciate the work you guys are doing!
I have had no fear in installing ROMs, I rooted as soon as my warranty was void at verizon. I love my old DInc! But, I can only install like 20 total apps now, and I think I've done something wrong or am doing something wrong.
Here's the history of what I've been doing.
Stock, Virtuous, CM6, CM7.2, CM7.2... It was here where I started to run into the low memory. All the forms said for this I should ext4all the dalvik cache. so I grabbed that file and installed it. The memory warning went away, but things got really ugly choppy and slow with a bunch of FC's. So I decided to change things up, and went to try an ICS ROM (I think albinoman) and installed a couple times... and I didn't wipe the dalvik cache before doing this. though I did wipe the factory data and cache. After this I noticed that a lot of things remained on my phone (wifi passwords, pictures, etc... like I hadn't erased any data). Soon after finding some bugs that drove me crazy, I upgraded to a CarbonRom (Thanks zachf714!) I loved it, but it seemed like I couldn't install as much as I used to on CM7.2... and maybe I can't... But I'd run into low memory things again and again, and eventually got it down to basically google apps, facebook, and a couple podcast/radio and the essential video apps for chromecast. Well, I wanted to try kit kat out, and I had started to run out of memory again, so I went in and grabbed the new CM11 and installed it, This time I wiped dalvik, factory data, and cache before install. It was amazing like a brand new phone... Only this time 2 of my previous apps were unable to install because I had "insufficient storage available". So I pushed as much as I could to the SD card, and that still didn't help eventually it was so out of space that the launcher would crash immediately after reboot. So I tried to reinstall everything, wiped all three, installed the rom, ext4all, then GAPPS... This time facebook ran out of space before it could even install. So I went back and tried again but without the ext4all... and now facebook and google voice run out of space before I can get htem installed...
So I guess the question is, what the heck am I doing wrong in my clear? I seem to constantly be shrinking the available space on my phone for apps. I know that it's a limited thing and has been a problem for the DInc, but how do I fix this? Do I just go into the file system and start rm-rf in the file structure? I don't even have (nor can I try) to install games at this point, and I fear logging into apps in fear that I'll shrink the space even more. And by all means feel free to point me to the "installing a custom ROM, You're doing it wrong!" thread that is in front of my nose and I'm missing. I've got 5Gb of space on my SD and ~3GB of free space on the phone itself... So I'm at a loss and that's why it's acting this way, and that's why I'm asking for help. Would I be better off going back to CM7.2 or trying to keep going with the newer ROMS?
Thanks again for any help and advice you have.
OK well let me ask something differently then and maybe I can get some help. Being that I'm new I need 9 new posts before I can go to the devs page and ask there anyway...
Does anyone know what folders/files are critical to keep on the device? I can nuke the rest and try again.
Would starting with a blank SD card make difference?
Thanks again.
Well not really the external sd card is only for apps moved to sd card. You should just fully flash and start over. That is what I have had to do. I hope this helps you out.

The Inc has a small /data/data partition so that could be the problem. But if a full wipe doesn't fix it I don't know. Maybe the hardware is going bad but I'm not sure.

Do you have chrome installed? It's an app data hog.
When /data/data fills up or gets close to doing so there start to be issues and that might be the cause of your issue.

Can you do a factory reset from recovery (backup if you want to keep your apps for any reason) and then run the commands again? I'm curious if there's an issue with the partitions and they're not clearing. It seems weird that 24 apps would fill up 130MB of /data/data and 500MB of /data. Oh, contact storage and calls/text messages use up /data/data as well.
Sounds similar to me. I can only fit about 30 apps. Most are small but I do have chrome. I swear I had more before jumping to 4.x. That is why I was considering a datamedia build but I haven't had time lately to play with it.

Well... Everything looked nice and fresh on the first go... Then one app hung on install, so I restarted the phone. When I did my old wallpaper returned, so I quickly went to check the gallery and look for the photos that should have been erased in the factory wipe... But they are all still there like nothing happened.
So even though it's currently installing apps... I have zero faith that I get through all of them before I run out of usable space again.

Riiiight... those commands.... guess I just read that wrong sorry.
Right now I have
/data size 748M Used 625.2M Free 122.9M
/data/data size 149M Used 103.4M Free 45.6M
This is after all the apps restored themselves... this time though I did manage to get G+ and Facebook up, but I havent' logged into all the apps yet, so I'm assuming they stay at base size until log in (such as maps, netflix, hbogo, etc...). I did a couple things different, I am no longer syncing all the contacts from my 3 google accounts, and I eliminated an app that I probably won't use as much anymore.
I don't have time again right now to re-wipe the phone but I'll try that right after a wipe in the next couple days. Just so I don't mess up again, I should factory wipe, cache wipe, dalvik wipe, install cm11 and gapps, but then as soon as terminal emulator loads back up run those commands to see if it actually cleared things, or should I stop all the restore from google and pull only terminal emulator for this? What's going to be the most diagnostic?
Do you think switching from clockwork recovery to TWRP make a difference? Do you have a preference in one over the other?

Riiiight... those commands.... guess I just read that wrong sorry.
If you're worried about that time to restore after a wipe you can take a backup and wipe and run those commands from terminal emulator before signing into google. Then after getting the needed info restore your backup.
Clockwork vs TWRP comes down to personal preference. They both implement the same recovery commands and probably also use the same exact wipe commands internally. So there's no real difference other than ui. TWRP has had some funky builds on the inc though so I recommend clockworkmod for the Inc.
Fyi factory reset clears dalvik and cache too so no need to do those separately.

Oh cool, never thought of that, I've only ever upgraded as a result of running out of space or things slowing down so I've never really wanted to back up and restore those before.
Right... So factory wipe
install cm11/gapps
only terminal emulator installed...
/data size 748M Used 109.8M Free 638.2M
/data/data size 149M Used 29.3M Free 119.7M
Although this is a huge decrease...
connecting as USB shows that basically all of the files on the phone itself remain, so the factory reset essentially doesn't wipe any of the data from the phone?????
Thanks again!
When I did the restore, it brought back things for me, but caused a severe amount of instability and everything force quit on me. lost my launchers can't get to apps... and it keeps auto quitting google media services every 5 seconds... not sure if this is indicative of a different problem or just how precarious everything is on my device. Anyway, factory reset, and now back to the google restore...
Oh... a couple more questions.
1) when I factory restore this way it should wipe out other data like my set up wifi networks? (it doesn't)
2) what about other app data? things like my sonos app after the factor reset didn't even need to be set up again... I find this odd

If you factory reset, you should have zero apps aside from the apps built into the Rom and gapps and all your settings reset. If that's not that case something is wrong.

Well.. that's good to know, looks like I won't be able to just factory reset and pass the phone along when I'm done with it... Gonna have to take a hammer and giant magnet to it! Did the memory look better on the reset though?

putting a magnet to a piece of flash storage does not destroy it, also from that used info it looks like it is just the data from the gapps... Try going into recovery and doing an advanced wipe, then checking everything but external sd and swiping to wipe
So it seems like we never really came to a solution here.
Has anyone tried increasing the sizes of these partitions. The /data/data only being 150mb is really limiting. Facebook likes to take 50mbs on it's own. I wondered if it would be possible to increase the storage of the internal partition and that /data/data folder. For most of us the purchasing of a large SD card for storing music and pictures and stuff is no big deal, if I could devote more of the internal storage to applications that would be awesome.
Hi all,
I have a rooted phone and constantly keep storage and performance best I can using a number of apps like SD Maid, Rom toolbox, etc.
My problem is that while it is clear that that all storage from phone to external SD card have plenty of free space, I'm running into a problem when attempting to update larger apps such as games from the play store. They fail do to insufficient space.
Any suggestions as to the cause? The only info I can provide related to cause is that this seems to happen after I take HD videos with camera. However, those videos do indeed reside on external memory card which obviously has plenty of space just like both other storage options.
Any help is appreciated.
Anyone have ideas as to cause? This is actually getting worse. Thanks
Happened to an older phone of mine. Basically had to to a complete wipe and format of the system and Sdcard. Sometime theres toms of left over junk from old apps. Backup you data before you attempt .

If you look in /data/app and /data/app-lib you'll find duplicates there (app-1 and app-2).
What i do is delete both in both folders, then reboot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik, then boot the phone up. That should solve the issue.

Hi,
Thank you much for response. Yes, you are right and this was one of two things I found on my own that fixed the issue. However, after it did not fully solve the issue, I finally ended up finding the perfect and easiest solution to this common issue. I ran a popular storage utility app and cleared all corpse files. That instantly solved the problem with every single app with this issue.
With that said, and while I do genuinely appreciate every reponse from this forum and others, replying by simply stating to backup, wipe/reset all and restore backup rom is honesty far from helpful. I knew that and would not have posted this issue if that was the only solution. Seriously, it is quite frustrating to read such nonsense. There is always a much simpler alternative and proven here. That is why most will post here for advice in the first place.
Anyways,
Thanks again.
