Ad-hoc connection - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I have a kiwi wifi device that was working fine before with my iphone, but now that I have ma t989 it can connect to it since ad-hoc conneciton isn't supported out of the box.
Is there a rom out there that as it enabled ?
if not is there an easy way to activate it ?
thanks in advance

Same question
I was just searching the forums because I have the same problem. I'm running CM9 alpha on an Atrix 4G. No luck, but I'm still trying. I've also tried MIUI and CM7. In MIUI and CM7, I am able to see the PLXDevices SSID, but just get stuck on "Obtaining IP". In CM9, I can't even see the network at all.
I've heard there's some things you can do with wpa_supplicant, but I've seen mixed results in other posts.
Good luck. Wish I could be more help. I've been trying for a few months now...

Just a friendly bit of help.....wifi tether

for those of you looking for a stable wifi tethering app for your newely rooted mytouch slide, and espically if you are on CM6.1 RC2... this works perfectly, ive been useing it for several days without issue...
just thought id share the tidbit to ya all
code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre14.apk&can=2&q=
I've been using the same since RC2 (I am now on the latest nightly, but still working).
just so everyone knows, i posted this cuz after a few hours of looking and total fustration, the forms here didnt lead me to a good tether app, so i did some leg work of my own, figured id save everyone time, no credit owed to me.... just being a good CM'er
i know this wasn't the case in the past..
but is there a way to run wifi in infastructure mode? or at least fake it so i can connect to kindle3?
running CM6.1 RC2
thanks.
mangle
try barnacle for the kindle but the one he just posted is a good working one.
these wifi apps create basically an ad-hoc connection, i know theres a way to connect to a pc and then create a hotspot useing the wife then basically bridge the connections, i had to go through it when i had an ipod touch..... its a silly long process but idk if thatd help
I use wireless tether 2.0.5-pre15 with no problems on the latest cm6 nightly, but it's an ad-hoc connection. Need an infrastructure connection for the Nook Color, as well.

[Q] Not agauin....

Damnit... yet again I find myself clueless, and yet again I have tried all the solutions I found out there by myself. BUT since there are people brighter than me, I have desided to yet again sit down and let the grown ups teach me...
I have a Desire HD running 7.1 RC of Cyanogen Mod. And something hit me that made me somewhat annoyed.. there is no support for ad-hoc networks, and I cannot for the love of somethuing unholy device a thought into what made someone desided to make it so...
This is actually the reason why I made the choice to root it in the firts place. BUt after several tries, of various methods, I have no success...
I have tried the method with adhoc.zip and recovery and load from zip thingy.
and the wpa supplicant method. For now I can see thm, and from latest try I could click it, and the phone tried to connect, but quickly just desided to connect to my other wireless network... and yes, even after forgetting the network and trying again, the connection is still not active..
And so I turn to you guys to ask if there are some secret way I could make this happend for me...

[Q] Ad-hoc thoughts?

I have a Desire HD, rooted, with cyanogen 7.1 RC installed. And I am very happy for that.
I am planning on buying myself a Parrot Drone, but refuse to get an IPhone to make it work, and thus need Ad-Hoc on my Droid.
I have tried flashing the Adhocv2.zip file, makes my wifi not respond at all. Meaning I can try to log on to wifi's, but they will only disconnect again... Ad-hoc and normal.
I have tried changing out the wpa_supplicant file to the one people have been posting around, but it makes my wifi stronger it seems, but still no ad-hoc.
And then I read something about a guy installing supeaosp 8.2 and it worked flawlessly, but I cant seem to find any place to downloade it. Not for DHD anyways..
SO I ask you, is there something I can do to get ad-hoc enabled, ANY tip will be appretiated...

[Q] Wifi Tethering with Mac

Hey guys I am having problems with the wifi hotspot on my Nexus with my Mac. It will connect fine but after about 5 min the internet will cut out but still remain connected. Have no problems with my iPhone 4 from work so it is something to do with the phone. Any ideas on how to fix it? Very frustrating.

Are you on 4.0.1? I heard that .1 has some kind of issues with tethering taht were solved in newer builds. Did you try to tether to some other computer?
Yeah I am on 4.0.1. Have not tried other computer. Have found turning location services off fixes the problem. Is it hard to flash to yakju build so I can get 4.0.2? Is there any way to do this to void my warranty?

IMHO this whole yakju-better-than-yakjusomething is over hyped. There were threads where yakjusomething builds got updates, and yakju didn't. I wouldn't bother my self to wipe phone and flash other builds If I were you, well I'm not going to do that since I have yakjuxw or something similar It's still a Nexus, you WILL get any update as soon as it will be possible! Earlier I had Nexus S i9023 with SLCD screen (I loved that screen BTW) and I was getting updates couple of weeks after Android sites started to write about them. It looks like Google disabled updates after battery complains from users. For some time now I haven't heard about anyone getting .3 or .2 update to any SGN. Just my thoughts, sorry for little OT
Thanks again for the reply. Yeah I might just leave it as it is until I get the update. Turning location services off doesn't seem to fix the problem it is still disconnecting. Will just use my iPhone 4 for now :-(
Have now also found that I can not connect the nexus through bluetooth either. The Mac won't even recognise it. Any way around this? Grrrr

Did you check device visibility in bluetooth options? I'm curiosity now, I'm going to try how tether and bt workshop with my SGN and mac
I will try to report back my findings

Thanks mate . Bluetooth is working ok now. Have found an app called wifi hotspot which seems to be holding the connection.
im also having the exact same issue. i'm on att. running an AOSP custom 4.0.3 Rom. I tried using att's tether apn and it keeps reverting back to Cingular 410, however i dont believe this is the issue, i think its related to the OS itself. is it Mac related? i have no other computers to test it with :-/
Maybe this: https://plus.google.com/103583939320326217147/posts/1Yy1jb9z4TA will help? In the post there is a zip for mac
Hey mate thanks for the link unfortunately it doesn't make a difference and for some reason the net won't work on wifi hotspot at all now. It connects but that is it :-(.
I didn't have time to really look into it, but I have some idea. Can you try how will it work when you disable security in settings? I mean make it an open network for, a second and try some browsing
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
that seemed to work on my nexus one and iphone 4 when i tethered. tried it with my gnex, same results, still showing connected, but no internet access after 5-15 min. i checked the status log of wifi tether for android, as it was doing the same thing with this app, and the it showed the wifi interface disconnecting by itself, i didn't do anything. Definitely OS related. Interestingly enough, this has happened both on the stock kernel and this franco 9.2 i'm running right now. Likewise with stock rom and this my current rom. so who knows.....very annoying though. :-/
Ok, with the network open on the Nexus the connection is fine on my Mac. As soon as I enable security though I have problems. Thanks heaps for the help so far but is there any solution available for this? Not real keen on leaving my connection open.
Sorry to bump. I'm having this issue as well. Verizon Galaxy Nexus on 4.0.2. My MacBook Pro connects to the hotspot fine and works for a bit, but then stops working. I can run network diagnostics to make it work again, but I have to keep doing that every 5-10 minutes or so and it makes it too annoying to use.
My iPad 2, iPhone 4, TouchPad, and mom's Windows laptop works just fine and never have these issues. It's only my MacBook. Anybody find a solution yet?
Exactly the same problem here.. Galaxy Nexus tethered wifi macbook pro running 10.7.2. Stays connected, but stopps passing any packets. Ipad, and other devices are still connected working properly, and the phone itself can use the LTE data connection. I've tried stock 4.0.2, as well as AOKP 4.0.3 latest build.. no luck. I've also tried both the native AP and android-wifi-tether too. Any help would be appreciated and rewarded.

PS - I even have the tethering option enabled on my Verizon account... (in case you were thinking it had something to do with big red blocking data)
I am still suffering this problem too. :-(. It is a real issue when I work outside the office a lot and do not have any problems with my work Iphone 4. I found pdanet works connected by USB but you can not access secure sites on the free version. Is there good alternative to pdanet?
hey guys. i now use an open network when i tether. it seems to keep a stable internet connection (packets transferring). the longest i've maintained a working tethering connection has been 2 hours....so it seemed good enough for me. Let me know how u guys fair if u do try an open network. still a weird issue imo that doesn't have too many solutions or even suggestions in the xda community (probably cause not many are tethering?). gl.
Hey, when I put my phone to an open connection mine is stable too. Must be something to do with the security. Wish there was a solution, I can't keep mine open the whole time :-(.
Anyone found a fix for this yet? Just about to return mine, tired of it not working. Have updated to 4.02 and my Mac to 10.7.3

[Q] [HELP] - Wifi issues on ICS CM9 Roms (gedeROM & EnergyROM)

Hello guys..
I had the CM7 ROM installed earlier which had issues with the Wifi connectivity but not regular, used to happen once in a while..
After the new Kernel got released on 28th by Haschcode.. i decided to take the plunge the CM9 way with gedeROM.. trust me it has been brilliant.. After the installation I m able to connect initially to wifi.. subsequently when i try connecting to the Wifi it has not been connecting..
I tried EneryROM which also has been giving same issues.. Need your help on this guys..
Also for information sake.. before installing the ROMs.. I wipe the cache, factory reset, Dalvik.. then flash the ROM
Would want to know if any of you guys are experiencing similar issues and if you had been able to get around it..Please find the screenshots attached..
I havent tryed energy but I did try gedeRom never could get it to connect period end of story not that it isnt a sweet rom and the developer has put very excellent effort into it others have had good results. I really dont have a clue why this differs from person to person or rom to rom but I do recall once being able to correct this under advanced connection or by simply not letting or letting google keep a backup of my device. Being in development stage there are little quirks that spring up that dont hold true for all users everyones methodology varies. I couldnt get the new miui to even boot some say to flash at a full charge can fix that problem. The new AOKP has been working very well for me but others have had issues dont know how much is directly related to rom/kernel/ user error at flash. Hashcode has done a briliant job with his kernel and the developers of these roms have too patience is a virtue at this point until some bugs are smashed. For me if I have alot of trouble I simply just move on till a later date then try again the wifi thing kinda is a deal breaker on a kindle without another way to connect to the net.
Edit: at one point there was a mac address problem with the new kernel I believe that was resolved but it gave every device the same mac address which I understand causes some routers to rebel.

You might try just flashing the latest kernel (#8) to see if that helps.

I m running on new kernel only.. donno y it is behaving like that..
But thepooch.. what u said is 100% true..the ROMs are nothing short of brilliance.. infact the icons r much sharper and the system is pretty smooth in CM9.. shd thank Hashcode and the other ROM makers..
I have an SMC router.. planning to test on a friends netgear this week lets see..
I am on AOKP Milestone 5, and WiFi is working fine for me. I just tried disconnecting and reconnecting again; no problem.
A really fine ROM, and yes; Hashcode is a god.

@Vaksen.. I had flashed AOKP yesterday... same problem guess need to check out on a different router..
Anyways on a different note.. Hashcode is definitely God so are the others who create the ROMs for us!!!

3.0 Kernel released on 28th is changing Kindle's WiFi MAC address - you should check MAC filtering policy on your WiFi router. Settings/about/status is the way to find your "new" MAC address. Developers found solution for keeping original MAC address, it will be included in next kernel/rom versions - so do not erase Kindle's original MAC address from router's MAC filter list - you will need it soon.

Thanx.. but i too know that.. my question is I dont have the MAC filtering activated.. so why is it failing then?
Have you tryed AOKP? No issues there

Yep.. no respite.. same problem
Ewwh that sucks There's got to be some kind of workaround have you tried advanced connections? Your router is very picky
Its a total shot in the dark but maybe you could try the Hellfire cleaner before you do a fresh flash not the nullifier I'm not totally sure about that one yet. Maybe there is some fragments left behind from your previous flashes that are bottlenecking you? What kind of wireless connection is yours?
I was having similar issues. I think Hashcode's kernels hate certain routers. What kind of router do you have?
My fix was setting my router to run with a static connection instead of with DHCP.
Can you please post a logcat in Hashcode's kernel thread? The issue will get resolved faster.

Your fix might be here read the op for kernel adjustments and wifi fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591869
Router reset with ICS Hashcode 3.0
I have very similar issues you are all reporting. I can use CM7 on my Fire and the wireless works perfect almost all of the time. I gets a little screwy at time, and I just reboot the device and it works fine again for days. When I use any ICS with Hashcode it works GREAT for about 2 days. After that mark, any time i connect with the wireless to my dlink B/G/N router, it will actually reset the router (not settings, just off/on) over and over again. Does anyone know if this issue is being addressed? I am not much of a networking person to know what the Fire could be doing to cause my router to do this, so I am really at a loss.
