Ok, here's the deal. Let me start off by saying that I am no idiot, I have been a tech for 15 years and this is the first phone that I've had a problem with.
I have an incredible that I want to root then flash to metroPCS. I first tried unrevoked and it said that my firmware was too new. So I figured I would try to downgrade my bootloader after googling the error. I tried literally every set of directions that I could find.
If anyone could help me I would appreciate it.

I can only help you root your phone, I don't know anything about flashing to another carrier. What is your phone setup android version, etc?
If you are on Gingerbread (2.3.4) then you can follow this thread by Scotty1223. It is the only way to root Gingerbread that I know of for the Incredible.

No offense, but 15 years does not mean you know everything.
I explained that I routed three phones, and unrevoked said the same thing at first.
You have to read the entire document and then do all the steps that are like 5, then run the unrevoked that is the last.
The document is attached in Word.

sure thing, here it is attached, use apn back up and restore from market
Cricket MMS is laggy and unreliable.
Even SMS on Cricket sometimes takes between 10 minutes and 2 hours.
The proxy goes down sometimes (your internet access if you don't have the Cricket plan).
But for the price, it's pretty damn good service.
I've tried 3 different sets of APNs, including ones I wrote myself. They all work just as intermittently. For the life of me, I (verizon) can't send pictures to my woman (cricket) but she can send/receive pictures from most other people.
I still don't understand it all, but I don't put any faith in MMS.
you can also try tokens419 exclusive stock 2.2 cricket rom with all the settings baked in , its a good rom, it worked perfect but i kinda got in the wild and wanted to try something else, but if you want everything to work and if you are on cricket using htc incredible and you want the latest official stock rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791917
I guess I was too excited to realize that picture sms doesn't work.
Error: Unable to send message / generic network failure.
It doesn't bother me considering a full quality/resolution picture taken with the incredible doesn't fit in sms. What's the point of sms if most people have internet on their phone?

Hey.. Since you got it working can you help summarize what I need to do. There is a lot here is a lot to sort through here and I'm a little confused does the phone needs to be rooted?
well i recently got a g2. it is currently unlocked but i want to get it rooted too. will the rooting affect the status of it being unlocked? it is tmobile branded so i am guessing it will unlocked by typing in a special code? thanks. also how can i root the phone? just send me a link. i am experienced in rooting as i have a rooted epic 4g and also my girlfriend galaxy 2.
No rooting and unlocking are two seperate things and don't affect one another. Not @ a computer so just google the link try "htc g2 root wiki" will be one of the first hits I'm sure. Read first make sure you understand, having said that its safe and easy

I think heimdall will work fine... in not too sure though. You may have to find a windows machine and use Odin. Otherwise dual boot Linux and use heimdall... i remember reading somewhere heimdall was broken for Mac osx.

No worries. I've used my Macbook consistently to do exactly what you want, that is: rooting my Galaxy Nexus (GSM) and it works fine.
I'm familiar with using a terminal, so I actually feel safer executing each command by hand, as I know what's actually happening. If you haven't used a terminal before, or if you're unsure about anything or just curious, post whatever questions you have and I'll give you my best answer.
As to return to stock, it's not a problem. Google has made all the factory images (stock) available here. They're probably not the same as you've got on your Sprint at the moment, as the carriers usually brand their phones with their own versions. These are pure from Google though. Better, I reckon.

Hahahah, i was addressing the OP, but I'm not sure if the quick reply button got you a notification. That's another thread though. Sorry.
A good friend of mine picked up an HTC Thunderbolt and had a million issues getting it flashed over to page plus wireless. He was able to trade it for a near brand new Incredible 2.
I am a CDMA noob. I have been using GSM phones for my entire Android tinkering life. Will doing the downgrade, S-OFF, etc break this CDMA 'flash'? I don't even know where the changed took place... It seems like wiping data, system, and cache shouldn't touch this... but I could be very wrong.
Thanks all!

You are close. Will rooting, s-off, or ROM and radio flashing mess up a changed CDMA carrier? Where exactly does a CDMA flash take place in the system?

Kinda new to the xda still trying to figure out rules. Kudos to the synergy guys tried a couple different roms and I'm addicted to this rom and is features. Just flanged the r484 and am support happy the mms issue wad fixed. Multi Window flawless. No problems with cameras. The only thing I have had issues with is reception 4g/3g. It seemed more stable with r433. Using ziggy and used custom install with pre selected synergy recs. If this post is on the wrong spot mod please fix. If someone has an answer for me greatly appreciated

Have you tried changing your modem ? Or going to a different ROM and updating prl and profile ?
http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TexasEpic/ThePeoplesROM-KennyGlass123/daniel4653.png
Changing modem? Haven't heard that one yet. If you could elaborate on that one that would help. As for prl and profile I'll try that but I didn't have the issue with the previous build. Should I just try flashing stock and update? Then reflash. My area hasn't changed. Stock and previous r434 build I had very constant and strong 4g everywhere. With the r484 it can't make up its mind between 3g/4g. Thanks Daniel for the info

You change your modem through Odin. Been a while since I've done it (on HTC for a while there when my Epic broke it's charge port) but as I recall you put the phone in download mode, put them modem in the 'Phone' field after downloading it to your computer, and fire away. Do check the instructions first, I'm going off of memory from six months ago.... Some radios work better with some phones than others. Depends on your device.

I know right. I hate how the only way to root the newer HTC devices is by doing sketchy wire tricks.
Dunno about the ET4G, but my Epic was fairly easy to root. But the GS3 was much easier. My wife's Photon Q was about the same as the GS3.
I had an HTC but never played with it due to watching a friend ruin multiples of them. So I never attempted. Had my gs3 for three days before I rooted and started modding. For never doing this before and having mediocre comp skills this was fairly simple. Just want to make sure I cover my bases before doing something wrong.
