[Q] Split texts over 160 characters. Is there a fix? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have two related mediocre annoyances with text massages:
1. When sending a text greater than 160 characters, the receiver receives it split as two, starting with "(1/2)..." and "(2/2)...".
2. When receiving a text message greater than 160 characters, I not only see the same "(1/2)," but when it should be only two separate texts, it gets split into three and almost always out of order.
I've tried the stock messaging app, handcent, chomp, and go sms...same thing for all of them. I understand that this mostly has to do with Verizon's CDMA network. Is there anything that can be done in custom ROMs or Messaging apk's to fix this?
My info:
Network: Verizon
Phone: Galaxy Nexus
ROM: AOKP M3
Kernel: Matr1x

160 characters is the limit for sms text messages for every phone on the planet.
its the limit of the sms system, not the phones or the cellphone companies.

This is definitely just how SMS works.

That is an option in the settings of the SMS application. Normally, the message is joined automatically by the receiver phone, unless you specify that the GN has to split it itself.

Yes, I'm well aware of that. However, the text messages are not getting rejoined by neither sender nor receiver as they should be.

SMS and MMS

Well basically I am getting charged for some of my text messages and I do not know why.
If I send a long text message will it send as a MMS???
THanks ... this is with T-Mobile
You need to speak to tmobile.
The manual says that an SMS will automatically be converted to an MMS if "very long", but not how long. Can you visually tell when this happens?

Just like when you add a word tot he dictionary it will appear eith "Converting to MMS ..." once it is too long.
if memory serves, it's somewhere between 3 and 5 SMS messages in length where it changes to an MMS.
I always though 5 was the max for text messages on any phone. Then it breaks it down into seperate messages.

Happened to me last week, NOT COOL!
is there a way around this ?
like a config option or something like that ?
is this specific to the desire or android ?
This is standard behaviour for all Android devices, and it applies to the stock messaging app. The reason for this, is that if you are going to send more than three SMSes, it will in most cases be cheaper to send an MMS. This does not of course apply when you have unlimited texts or other discounts.
Until this gets fixed, download a replacement from the market. Try chompSMS or Handcent SMS. The automatic conversion is optional in these.
ah ok
hope this gets fixed fast
using an alternative sms program such as handcent sms or chomp sms gives you the option to break up long text messages into seperate texts instead of converting to mms

Kindgom StockSense and mms

Can someone tell me why when i send a text over 160 characters it sends it multiple messages. I can receive long text messages but cant send them. On CM7 and other sense 2.0 roms i was able to do this
Sometimes its just the way its coded. I never really noticed it on mine but if you use handcent it works perfectly
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
I've always had my messages split up when they were over 160 characters :/
This is intended. There is a 160 character limit on text messages. Some apps cut you off of typing at 160, others just use multiple texts... it depends. If you have a limited # per month plan, a 161 character text will count as 2.

[Q] CM7 Messaging issue

How do I fix this issues where incoming messages are split and end up with 0001/0002 and the second part of the message is split into two messages?
Bump. Help?
Text messages are limited to 160 characters therefore it splits them and puts that 01/02 so the person receiving the messages knows what's first and second and third and etc

[Q] Why don't emailed text messages thread properly?

I have older relatives who do email but not text messaging, so I've enabled them to text me by putting a "mailto" link on their desktop that uses a provider's SMS gateway. As an example, for a verizon owner, if I set up this mailto it would address the email to "[email protected]". In this way, my older relatives can text me by just sending an email. This works pretty well all around.
However, I'm finding that the text messages I get have a 10-digit number in the "from" field, and even with messages from the same person, that number is always different, although it appears to increment. As an example, I sent myself three text messages in a row via email, and the number in the From incremented by one each time.
These messages won't thread obviously because the From field is always different, which is a little irritating but I'm more curious about how this is working than anything else right now.

I've always had this issue but don't use it often. I never figured out how to fix it. Have you tried a different app ? Not that it would matter but maybe its sending programs issue and not the phones

[Q] Sprint LG G4 Spliting SMS

Before I switched to sprint I had used T-Mobile LG G3. The default messaging app split long text messages into two or three, and I received long messages in similar chunks. But I used the Textra messaging app and it ceased to do that. Long messages sent as one as well as receiving 500+ character text.
Now, being with sprint the problems have re-appeared and I an unable to fix it. Textra does not change the sms limits so I send multiple text to friends and likewise with receiving. This is not a huge issue just a major inconvenience and a nuisance.
Are there setting I'm messing, apps that will help, anything i can do to keep long message as one? Please and thank you for your help.
I think it's a Sprint issue. I've been with them for a long time and always remember this happening. However, if there is a fix, I'd love to know it also.

Sprint has the 160 character limit for SMS texting. If you want to text longer messages as a single message, you either need to use an instant messaging app like Google Hangouts (though those require the recipient to also have the messaging app), or find a texting app that can convert long messages to MMS if it goes past the 160 character limit. These solutions will convert the SMS to MMS or other forms of data, though, so just be aware of that if you have some sort of data limit.
If the converting SMS to data is not a viable solution, a quick google search revealed this app: BigSMS, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skezza.main&hl=en.
It supposedly can make long texts, but I have never used it myself, so I can't comment on if it works or not.

As I said before, I used Textra in the past and my messages were sent as one and I received long messages as one. I recently downloaded EvolveSms which fixed the issue of my messages being split by converting them into MMS (which i have no problem with at all) but I still got 4 separate chunks of their message. I know there's an option to reassemble split messages but it seems to not be working. I'll go to a sprint store to see if there's an issue there or not.

Ok, Good luck with with the Sprint customer rep. The split SMS thing never bothered me since I've been on Sprint for a very long time. However, I did a quick google search, and it does seem like some devices have native support for recombining received SMS messages, like the Sprint Galaxy S 5, so it does look like it can work. Hopefully they can do it on the G4 as well.
