Nandroids backed up to external sd move? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Ok my cwm is on my external sd card with all my nandroid backups should I can I move this to my phone storage in case one day my ex sd card fails?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App

Yes, but when you restore you might have to do advance restore and restore all the partitions that way.

And thus the Catch22 of saving backups to internal or external storage...
If its on internal storage, and your phone dies, you are out of luck...
I personally keep a copy on my external, yes... but then I also make a copy of the backup that I keep on my laptop... That way I know that that I can always move it to a new SD card and have access to it.

Thanks Damius simple but great point

yup, this is what I do also. A general rule of thumb is to have 2 copies of your back up in different, physical locations.

Depends on the quality of your DVD and the burner... most consumer-written DVD-R's are only reliable for a couple years (3-5) before oxidation starts messing with the data.
Same with CD's... 1 of 5 music CD's (Memorex or Verbatim) that I burn (usually no faster than 8x) last about a year with regular use before they start skipping.
Not that a PHONE backup would be useful even a month later...
I would buy special archive-quality DVD's if you are storing family pics on them. I wouldn't trust them on a disc from a 100 disc platter that cost $20.

Again, NO phone's have cd rom drives...
It's technically our fault. We call the Android OS programs, roms. ROM is any read only memory. About as close to rom that they get is static ram with a nand lock. So yeah it could be confusing. Old hand held stuff really had rom chips in them. Rom burners and erasers would would manage the contents of the chips. They still exist in our phone, but probably in the form of programmable arrays which point to boot sequences for the IC devices in the phones. But that's a guess.
So there's room for a gracious over look.
I use an external dvd recorder with my evo. Using this setup, I can easily burn the contents of my sd card onto the dvd. You should try it...

That's quite a stttttttttttttttttrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttttttttttttcccccccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
dude, there is no similarity between a cd-rom and phone rom. the difference:
rom is read only memory. cd's are READ ONLY and have MEMORY so they are known as a cd-rom (or compact disc read only memory). our phone's rom is supposed to be read only, but by rooting it we are able to write to it, so it is no longer technically rom, but we still call it that.
does that help?

HomerunBattle3D stats from old Evo to new Evo??

Got my refurb Evo in the mail the other day and put in my old 32gb sd card from my original Evo with all of my Titanium Backup data on it. I restored all of my apps but when I open HomerunBattle3D I am at the beginning again. I had played for quite a while and had the best unifrom, bat, gloves, hat, etc. Now I guess I gotta start all over again. That sucks!! Does the game recognize its a new device and keep me from moving my records to the new Evo? That really sucks if thats the case. I try to log in using my name but it says that the name is already taken....what gives? Any way around this?
I emailed the devs about the same thing. You can retrieve your items but that's it (on same device); all stats, items and gold balls can only be linked with that one device. So basically you pretty much lose everything when switching to another device. Sorry
I lost my thunder bat lol and all my best items.
i restore mine with titanium and once i didn't work so i did it again and VOILA!
idk if you get a whole new device but i don't think that would matter if its on your sd card but i could be wrong.

They don't let you restore items from SD card cause then people could cheat and share items and gold balls. They keep it on a server stored and they attach your data to each individual device. Once you change devices you're screwed.

Well thats what I was afraid of....that REALLY SUCKS!! I'm also going to contact the dev about this issue. They should make it where you can log in to your account from any device. [Q] How to back up phone without space on SD card

Hey guys, I am trying to back up my phone so I can flash other things without the risk of losing everything on my phone but I have no space on my sd card to make a backup. I am using about 30 gigs out of 32 gigs of space on my SD card, most of it is just music. Is there anyway to make a backup straight to my computers hard drive or do I have to transfer the music to my hard drive, make the back up, transfer the back up to my hard drive, and then retransfer the music back to my SD card?
Transfer everything to the computer and then make the back up then transfer that to the computer and then move your stuff back
TrevE Supporter!
Wow you don't have any backups at all in the used 30 gigs? I wouldn't recommend that at all. You should prioritize your space and ditch some of the music to make room for a backup to keep on your sdcard. The reason I say this is because if you move your music to PC and then make a backup and move that to PC and then move your music back to your SD card, sometimes transfers get corrupted between the two, then you'll be left with nothing and will have to start fresh. Just my 2¢

And get Google Music so you don't have to store thousands of mp3's on your flippin' SD Card. Or better yet, lose some of the techno dubstep bull**** noise you probably infested your card and your ears with.
my bad for reposting I forgot that i made a thread last week >.<
Also, I don't like using google music because I believe you have to use their default music player and you also have to leave your 3g/wifi which drains a lot of my battery.

Rogue recovery

I just made backup with rogue recovery and I can't find it anywhere. This happened one more time but I wasn't paying attention thinking that maybe I was wrong. Whole process finished without errors but I can't locate backup anywhere.

Hope not. This is a 5 day old 32GB sd card. Never happened that files disappears just with this recovery. I just flashed new rom and I will try again.
Edit: It worked, I do see backup via recovery but I have no idea where is located.
and you checked in the clockworkmod folder on the sd card or internal storage? there should be a folder called backup and that's where they are located. If it's rogue recovery, then it's on the SD card. CWM recovery puts them on the internal storage

Rogue recovery does have an option to put the backups on the internal storage as well, so that's a good thing if your SD card is full of mp3s and movies like mine is.

You were right, sd card is going bad. I am mad because I use this card for 5 days only. Got it from ebay (in original packaging) and give'd good review to seller already.
Just run test and looks like bad or fake card. Also instead of 32 GB it shows 28GB ?
I did several testing and results are always same. If there is any data on card test fails, and if card is formated test returns with no error (see attachments)
yea I've been burn by fake or bad cards on ebay many times myself. It will show full capacity, but you can only copy like a few gigs to it. everything else written on the card will show up but be un-usable. For this reason I stopped buying memory cards on ebay and only from legit websites like newegg or buy.com.
Way too much fake stuff out on ebay and you're not sure if you're getting the real thing or some crap.
Sucks to hear that about your situation
Thank you, I look positive way on it (didn't loose much of data on it). Anyway I will get new one from other source. What is top price I should pay for 32 GB, and which brand I should chose?
I've seen 32gig card go for under $30 so no more than that. I've had success on many different brands: sandisk, kingston, adata, patriot, transcend, etc. I would avoid the no name cards as you're not sure what they are.
Just a quick search pulled up this Patriot sd card for $29 free shipping.

If you're a stickler on class speeds, this is a class 10 card. I personally don't care about write speeds as long as it works and doesn't give me problems.
I don't care about speed, but had bad experience with Kingston (lost very important 200-300 pictures after card died with no eason). Thanks for your help!

[Q] Expanding Storage on Note 2

I have an unrooted International Note 2 (N7100). I really enjoy the device but the only problem is the 10GB internal memory and the inability of moving all data to SD card.

A noob-friendly guide to rooting the Note 2 and what you need to know.
A guide on swapping the storage without corrupting files or the risk of it being bricked.
I hope you can help as I want to buy a 64GB SD and be able to make use of it and have freedom of memory space.

Is this something that is tricky or not?
Really. I want to know. I'm done with the Note 2 if I can't use the expandable storage option the way I assumed that I could.
I will go back to using the iPhone because I never had any problem with it in terms of what I could do with it in regards to what movies and music I put on there. For example,if I wanted to listen to a .flax recording, I just downloaded Flac Player (actual name) and side loaded the onto my device via iTunes.
All this time I thought that Apple was the control freak and that Android was the libertarian choice. Ha ha ha ha! The joke is on me.
I got this Note 2 and after rooting & roming, I've got 3 Gigs out of 16 and I don't even know where most of it is even allotted. Oh yeah,I know, I know. Everyone has their app that will fix this. Tried them all,I'm getting a bit cynical now.
I've got a genuine micro sd card in the phone external and it has a capacity of 32 Gb. When I move movies into it, then try to watch them, nothing. And if I try to transfer it to the internal storage, the movie still won't play. And the movies and music are getting deleted somehow along the way on both the internal and external cards.
Screw Mr Android Samsung (and Microsoft too), I want my iPhone back.

You should also take a look at folder mount in the play store. I found it more reliable to only move specific folders from the internal to external storage. The app itself is simple to use although it still requires root.

Wtf are you going on about?
Whatever, you can try formatting your card in your phone. It's is possible your sd card is faulty of course.

Its got to be a faulty micro SD card. I thought that if I bought one from a seller based out of the US everything would be fine as I got it off of eBay,
I'm going to swing by walmart later and get a name brand card.
With my current card, I'm hoping that its a faulty one. Because as it stands, if I try to transfer from either the internal storage to the external or vice versa, the information becomes corrupt and will no longer play.
Things should not be this difficult. Smart phones, phablets, all-in-ones, these things are computers more powerful than the ones used in the moon landing. Yet those of us that would love to at least try to use more of their potential are often hampered because of the greed involved in content providers and copyright bull**** and for the love of all that is holy, manufacturers should be neutral. They should not be in bed with content providers that are influencing the way the devices are made!!!
Can you imagine buying a brand new car and being told that it will only accept one brand of gasoline? Picture yourself buying a new car and finding out that ExxonMobile had a deal with the car maker so that the car would only accept their brand of fuel? You couldn't use Chevron, you couldn't use Sunoco or any of the other brands...
This is what's going on with the big companies like Microsoft, Apple, and Samsung...
I really don't get what you mean. You can use any brand of sd card you wish.
However, if you purchase from any non reliable supplier expect to buy a fake. I bought a 16gb card on Monday from amazon but I mistakenly bought it from their market place and I'm 99% sure it's fake. That's my error which is compounded by the fact that I normally only buy them from amazon direct for exactly this reason. That doesn't make it Samsung, apple, Microsoft, God or even Kenny Rodgers fault.
So, sorry but, I don't really get your point. But yes it does sound like you have a faulty card. Just be happy you have a note 2 and so are able to simply by a replacement.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
I went and got another card at Walmart and it did turn out to be a faulty card that was causing the problem.
What I meant earlier when I talked about manufacturers being in bed with content providers was that when you get a certain product sometimes it will not do what you wanted to do because of dumb copyright laws.
I'm sure you're familiar with the problem that many smart phone owners have had in dealing with trying to transfer apps to an external card. This is because content providers do not want the apps that are for purchase to be traded off.
There are many instances where things like this happen every day and the technology world.

Ah Ok. I got ya now. Yes jb saw us unable to move the data to sd. I never knew the reason for it but now you've explained it it makes sense, thanks.
But I guess we are lucky to be on this forum as for us we can use directory bind or better still the memory swap mod.
Glad you got your sd card sorted.
In answer to your first question yes the memory swap mod does work. I've been using it for about a month. I used directory bind for about 3 months before that. That is alot more fiddly but you can move individual apps with it instead of everything.
Try flashing a custom rom with the mod baked in just because you can.

I'm just going to save up my money and then when the iPhone 6 comes out I'll sell this Note 2 and get it instead.

Seriously, lay of whatever it is you're smoking. Don't go blaming the phone because you don't know what you're doing - maybe you shouldn't be rooting if you aren't comfortable with what it implies.
The missing internal storage is likely because you flashed multiple times without wiping the underlying partitions. I had a similar issue using mobile odin. Try using the PC Version with a complete factory wipe from recovery first.
