[Edit] so what do i need to replace within my phone in order to make it so that the phone doesnt burn out the batteries? Please help
So about a week ago my original stock battery started draining excessively, i thought that since i had it for more than a year that it was normal. So i went online and bought a new one from amazon.
When the new one got here i could tell it was a fake, but it was cheap so i didn't complain and it got mostly positive reviews so i just went with it. not even a week with the battery and it failed just like my old one.
One thing i noticed was on bother batteries it had gotten a small smudge/burned looking mark on the golden rectangular connectors. Is this a normal mark, does anyone else have it?
Any advice would be great, I dont want to go out and buy a new battery if it's my phone thats the problem. (btw im also using the stock charger)
I also have tried other chargers, complete wipes, changing roms, all failed. And if the phone ever does turn on its only to cwm recovery
When you got the new battery did you let it drain then charge it over night?

no, when i got the new battery, i didnt charge it for the first day, it was around 80 percent in the morning. i charged it as soon as it was at around 20 percent later that day.

Try to calibrate it, drain it all the way to the point it doesn't charge then charge it while the phone is off for 8 hours then go into recovery and wipe battery stats and then reboot phone. Keep doing it for a few times

Alright i'll leave it charging tonight, i actually have it charging right now, its blinking orange as usual when it has no power.
Btw i didnt mention this, before it died when ever it was charging it would show that it;s charging but go down as if it wasnt being charged. then when disconnected it'll just die.
And do you mind to check to see if ur battery's golden rectangular ports on the bottom look burned? both of my batteries are like that. (btw when plugged in tha battery doesnt get hot)
Sorry to bump, but considering that the phone is burning out the batteries (the above advice didnt work, i tried to delete the battery stats but phone shut down and wont boot up any longer) what parts would i need to replace to make the phone not burn out the battery?
Take it to a cell phone repair store and get an analysis. If you decide to get it repaired there they take the analysis fee out of the total

Thanks haha, i was thinking of doing it myself for the learning experience, but i guess that'll be the best thing to do instead of potentially messing up my phone by trying it myself. xP

I just received my seidio 3500 extended battery and extended rugged case. What's the best way to charge it using the stock phone charger? I've seen alot and most reviews and threads recommend external charger. I don't want to have to deal with that and shell out more money. I don't remember the link but I've also seen how your supposed to charge while on till full then unplug, turn off the phone then charge while off for an hour turn back on for 2 minutes while unplugged again then charge again for another hour while turned off again. I'm new to the evo and extended batteries so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I charged mine up til it was 100%, then monitored the battery widget. It kept going at waveform like this for another hour and a half - /\/\/\/\/\/\/\ - however as time went on, the peaks would be at lower and lower amplitudes. Eventually, the charging current decreased significantly, and there was an occasional spike every 5-10 min. At that point, I turned it off and let it charge for another hr or so. Rebooted (while still plugged in) into recovery, wiped battery stats, then rebooted to the desktop. Once the phone was fully booted, I unplugged.
I can get a good 2 days with light usage, or a solid 1 day with heavy. There after, I charge it til green, then give it another 1.5-2 hrs more - You can tell by the battery widget when it actually stops charging.
Note, i'm not using an SBC based kernel.
What battery widget are you using?

It's all bull man you dont really need an external charger. When I was in the process of getting my 3500 mah I was also preocuppied about the external charger, however I began to use and you really dont need it.
Just understand that when the 100% sign comes up and the green light turns on it's not really charged all the way, the phone can only recognize upto 1500 mah..if I remember correctly. You have to leave the phone plugged in for another hour or so for it to actually get it's full charge.
Even then, it will seem like it is not working because the battery will go from 100 to 90 in around 5 minutes ITS CRAZY!! But dont worry thats a fault on HTC's part. After that 90% mark the phone will have really good battery life. I usually get around 15 hours of heavy usage, extremely heavy trust me! If you just use it for phone calls and dont really use GPS and stuff you should get maybe a day and a half.
So dont worry about the external charger, it's not true. What I did when I first got the battery I charged it 100% let it drain all the way and then recharged it. This is just so the phone understand the capacity of the new battery. At first it may seem a bit "iffy" but dont worry it'll live upto it's potential.
Hope this helps. Later!
Thanks obloivior72,
I'm going to charge it up now and try it.

Just remember let it sit for another hour after it says it's full, Actually leave it for 2 just to be safe. I can't emphasize this enough! Glad I was able to be of some help! Enjoy your new battery.
Graph looks something like this.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Each tick mark on the X axis is 10 minutes. It took about 2 hrs to get the battery from 20% to 100%, then another good 90 minutes to really complete the charge (light green during this time).
Im using an SBC kernel. Its a little bit taboo on these forums right now but if you can get your hands one one it will def do the trick without jumping through hoops. Just read up on it first. Search the forums and do some reading about it before flashing. There's a lot of conflicting opinions on both sides about it so read about it then you decide.

I looked into the sbc kernels but with the bad info and everything I cant make the jump. I charged for 2 hours after full so I'm going to test it now till it dies while running calkulins 1.7.7. I'll let everyone know how it goes. I appreciate all the tips. Hopefully this makes my evo complete.

This is what Seido told me to do if it isn't charging adequately:
"Please try to fully drain the battery until the phone completely shuts off automatically and then charge with the OEM AC charger that came with your device. Repeat this process 3 consecutive times. This will recondition and also recycle battery usage for best performance.
Thank you,
Seidoonline Technical Support"
However, doing this when the battery is new really doesn't do any good. It would be useful after some time using it since these are "smart batteries".
Just charge it normally and should be good to go.
What r some good ways to charge my battery I just got it... and tryna charge it the right way so I can get as good use out of help please
Charge it, and when it gets to 100%(green led) charge for about 2.5-3 more hours. That way it will have a full complete charge.

Is the 3500mah? If you use it heavily, im talking watching like 4 movies, music nonstop, on a voicecall for 3 hours, and internet like no more, it should do you 15 hours. If you use it like a normal phone, id say 2 days without charging. My brother has one and he charges like every other day.
It's the 2600 one I think
That should definitely last you the entire day. I have a stock 1500mah and it last me about 8 hours but thats because I never put the phone down. Are you rooted?

I have no clue what rooted mean lol
Awwwwwwwwwww! Rooting is basically opening your phone up to bigger and better possibilities. Its kind of like hacking. You could have installed a custom kernel and rom for better battery life. Its alot to explain. Im rooted with a CM7 Rom and custom S-Z Kernel which lets me control the overclocking/underclocking of my phone. Basically when my screen is off, i lose no battery at all.
What apps should I download or how do I root it

ROOTING: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html
It should take you like an hour to Root. Its about 55 minutes to get your phone and pc root ready, and 5 minutes to actually root the phone. Ask as much questions as you can if you need help.
Ok thanks Imma try it out and let u know if I got questions

Hold on. You may need to calibrate the battery. Download "Battery Calibration" in the app store and follow the directions to setup your battery. I think your phone still believes you have the old battery in play.
It said I need to dl a Rom.... what Rom do I need
In order to install a rom your going to have to root your phone. All I can say is give your battery time to adjust since you just got it. It should begin to act normally after a couple of days of normal phone use and charging.

Hi guys... I was running MIUI the April 29th/30th build or something. Stock everything.
Today when I was charging it... I started charging my Evo at 8% and it was stuck at 8% for quite some time and it still said "charging."
Then it died and I tried another charger. I would press the power button and the white Evo screen would flash for a second and then die.
Tried another charger and same thing.
Now I can't even get the white Evo screen to flash and nothing happens when I press the power button.
The phone isn't charging and it won't even boot up with or without the battery in there.
I can't get to recovery/bootloader... or anything.
Does this have anything to do with the CM7 problem a while ago? Any simple fix?
This is the only time I've ever had problems.
Sounds like your battery died. I would try a new battery before anything else.
Dude that sucks hope it was just your battery a bad one. Running SBC kernels can spank a battery if you were a heavy user nothing to worry about tho batterys are cheap to replace. Some people have issue like that from not wiping right when flashing kernels such as SBC ones and copying over the other one without wiping.
Plus I seen someone else have this issue using miui on there forum. I have no idea what it is but people been trying not to freak about it.
It could be your battery or your charging port - if it's either of those, a fully charged battery should boot you up. You most likely still have a recovery, you just can't get to it because you don't have enough power. If you were charging from a computer, try charging from the wall instead.
If it's your usb port, Sprint should replace your phone for free if you have insurance. I'm not sure of the policy without insurance, as they seem to keep changing stuff like that.
My Evo + xda Premium App = This post.
Thanks for the replies guys.
I'm hoping it's a battery thing. Someone elsewhere said that a battery boost was needed because the battery is completely dead or something. I'll just go to Sprint tomorrow and check it out.

If you were charging through the computer, the phone could've discharged faster than it was charging. I bought an external charger and three backup batteries on ebay for about $11 with free shipping. It took a couple weeks for it to get here, but I'd suggest getting something similar. I charge my batteries in the external charger and just swap them out when they get low. Now I really get to use my phone & not worry about battery life

Yeah... I remember that deal. I didn't really think I'd need it, but now I wish I jumped on board.
Also, would it hurt if I change chargers? I left my main charger elsewhere and used some spare chargers that my friend and I had. Those didn't work.
Either way, I'll see if it's the charging port or the battery. Hopefully it's the battery.
Luckily I can send/receive texts through sprint's website. I'll have to do that to communicate tomorrow.
I just went to Sprint and got my battery boosted. It works now.... incase anyone else runs into this problem.
I'm sorta' blaming the SBC kernels...
It's NOT the SBC Kernels. Even HTC recommends not draining the battery fully and says wait til you're below 50% to recharge.
thousands and thousands of people use SBC kernels with no problems. Just because you're in the >1% that has a problem and happens to have an SBC kernel doesn't mean it's the kernel's fault.

I did drain the battery fully... then it died completely.
However, I probably shouldn't have pointed fingers to the SBC kernels. I've just heard of other cases on XDA with a similar problem and I may have been quick to accuse.
I doubt it was SBC, it's fairly common for the battery to get moody over being drained completely.
I blame mass hysteria for you blaming SBC kernels. Glad you're back up & running

Great
So glad it was just a battery issue!
I seem to be in the same boat. I guess I'll bring my battery to sprint asap and see what's the deal. I'll post my reply to tell you what happens but basically the samething has happened to me
Edit 30 mins Later :
I got to the show and it wasnt the one that did the repairs but they said this is really common and refered me to a spot in the city. Gonna head there a bit later and tell you the results
I started running into some battery issues earlier today. I was on AOKP without any issues and one day the battery just started draining very fast. I went from about 50% to 15% in a matter of an hour. That night I slept with my phone charging and it did to get charged passd 54%. And it's charging very slow too. I thought it might be the ROM so I flashed Slim Bean. But it is not heling at all.
Anyone have anything similar going on?
What can I do?
Try calibrating the battery and go like 2-3 charge to discharge and see what its like afterwards

Will do. I'll post back
Yea it takes a few rundowns to get into the sweet spot, I thought I was getting horrible battery life till someone suggested that to me now I get about 32-33 hrs on a charge. Which I think is about prefect, I don't game on it I just use everything else all the time. I have ps3, xbox360 & psp for gaming
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda premium
Well it's been charging for about 6 hours now and it won't get past 54%
I let it charge all night and when I woke up it was finally at 100%. I left for class and unplugged my phone at 7:40. 20 minutes later it was down to 47%. Then another 2 hours later, it was at 11%. Obviously it is draining far too fast. Will AT&T replace my battery? Or does it look like I'm gonna have to buy a new one?
What I normally do is charge it to 100% then boot into recovery and wipe battery stats. Reboot and don't unplug the phone until it again says that the battery is full. Then run with it and see if it helps.
Go ask them I don't see why they wouldn't replace the battery, it does sound like its shot that kind of drain isn't normal at all
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda premium
I had the same issues with not getting to 100%. Seems like leaving it on the charger for another couple hours (overnight) got it there.
So I went to the AT&T service shop yesterday and she took my battery and put it in a different Galaxy S III and it showed the battery was charged 97%. In my phone, it showed 23%. She told me that it had somthing to do with my phone being rooted. She said the software on my phone was being "tricked" into believing that the battery is a lot less full than it actually is. She told me to unroot my phone and flash it back to stock. So I did that yesterday and it is still no better. I don't know what to try.
Wiping battery stats doesn't help battery life... Something i learned a long time ago with my X10

I would unroot and take everything back to stock, then go back to the AT&T store you went to before and show another service rep that the phone is messed up and see if they give you another one.
Good luck

mrb1946,
Even though your S3 is reporting percentage values as you stated....the PHYSICAL battery did not drain from a real 100% to a real 47% in 20 minutes. It can't actually physically drain that fast. It would be on FIRE! So, either the calibration of the rom/software or the battery itself somehow messed up.
Also, during that time...was the battery/S3 HOT? That physical evidence would account for some of the drain if it's coming from a rogue app or misbehaving rom component. Did you post a battery drain graph? And were you monitoring the cpu activity during these high drain periods? I mean...periodic checks to see if your CPU is stuck on HIGH freq and if you have any wakelocks shown under the battery graph.
If this problem is still occurring, here's a thread explaining a possible drain from android system. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827087&highlight=android+system
Hey guys, just got the phone on Saturday. It's been awesome until today. I noticed it has been draining super fast. I put it on the charger and it would not charge past 89%, and at 89% it said there was 1m left until full. I turned off the phone and let it charge to 100%, but when I turned it on it almost immediately dropped to 90%.
What could be the issue? Do you think a simple factory reset could fix it, or should I take the phone back to Best Buy for a new one?
Edit: using the corded charger that came with the phone
This just started happening to me as well.
My phone will say fully charged, and when I unplug it will immediately drop to ~91-93%. Not sure if it's a faulty battery or what not, as I too have been using the wireless charger and block given to me with the phone.
I'm going to Best Buy during my lunch today to see if they have any idea and will update if there's any useful news.
that is weird. I haven't had the issue on mine, though I only charge with a USB cable (I don't have a wireless pad). From my rooting days, there is a battery config file that remembers things like battery charging history, so a factory reset might be useful, though it's a painful process to get a phone back up and customized fully after a reset.
Hopefully best buy has a better answer...though it might be as simple as replacing the phone, to which a factory reset might have been easier...
Anchor - how is the battery life on your phone?
I think my battery might be a defective one as I can barely get through half of a day with 1 1/2 hours of SOT - and that includes taking several steps to try to maximize battery life.
Just a quick update:
Stopped by Best Buy today and talked to a surprisingly knowledgable Samsung person. He said I'm the second person with an issue like this and believes it's a faulty battery, so they're going to give me a new phone.
To my knowledge this is the only explanation as my battery was lasting half a day.
Same here... I just got this phone yesterday and the battery drains very quick. I will return it and get the htc M9.
