Lucky. Bastards.

Damn you Acer, You couldnt release our update also?!?! Sigh...

It appears to only be going out to some users. Down here in FL were still not getting it.

Don't think it will be that relevant. Once someone gets around to packing the update.zip, you can install it I think.

can an update.zip with the update for the A200 be helpful in some way to get ICS on our tabs? its basically the same hardware

No big surprise, the a200 ICS rom was leaked weeks ago so we knew it was coming. Now that it's been released, they'll hopfully start work on porting it to the a500 / a100 (if they don't then they'll just work on their next tab).
This does not mean that the update.zip file used for them will work for us... I'm sure they have a different bootloader / signing method for their roms just like the a500.

I've only seen one person that's confirmed they've gotten it. I know there are a lot of blogs out there about it, but I'm remaining skeptical a bit until it actually shows up on mine.

You can download it from the thread above...

That link doesn't take you to the official release of ICS, and only really takes you to a leak for honeycomb...unless I'm missing something (entirely possible).

If you follow that link and look at his files you'll find this:
Acer_A200_1.019.00_PA_CUS1
ro.build.version.release=4.0.3
ro.build.date=Fri Jan 13 11:31:06 CST 2012
Which by the build version is ICS... I dunno if it's an official release or a leaked copy but either way it's ICS for the a200.

Yep. Its ics I am running it. Fully stable too. Been on it for a week.

I can't understand why the A100 isn't getting the ics update now also. Acer has let me down.

We'll get it eventually, they just need to port it now that they have it working on the a200. If you know anything at all about development, it takes time to do these things, they still have to get our camera to work and digtizer controller. At minimum both of those would be different so it's not exactly a straight port.

Anyone seen any sign of an update.zip? I'm too impatient to keep waiting for the OTA to show up.

You would think they could use the same base code for drivers at the very least. Im not a kernel dev, so I could be very wrong...

Different hardware so different drivers are needed, like I said earlier the a200 isn't exactly the same device.. it uses the same tegra soc, but that's about it.

So you're saying if we put the 4.0.3 link you provided on our SD cards it'll update our a100's?

No, it doesnt quite work like that. There are many things that are not compatible and the updater checks for to make sure it doesnt mess the system up.

[ROM] Alpha2 iml74k (I may have received a leaked alpha of aosp 4.0.3?)

Today I received a warranty replacement phone through tmo. When I went to root it I found two files on the USB storage. Alpha2.zip and sr2gs2.zip
I held my breath and flashed alpha2 through cwm. And to my surprise a vanilla aosp ics rom booted up. i will post the zip when i get home but nothing really works on it. its fast and snappy but no wifi audio or camera
When i tried to flash sr2gs.zip and it overwrites the kernel to a tmo branded one. i cant get it to boot past the kernel though
Heres the info i have. Ill upload the rom later today
Model msm8660_surf
Kernel 2.6.35.11 -dag0.43+
Build number ends with iml74k and contains a name with @themothership

Haha, I think you got jomeister's ics build on your phone.

This is good for us, right?

I just read an article that explained that the Incredible S is receiving their ICS update today. And basically since that phone is pretty much exactly the same as ours... I dont know much about this kind of stuff but i expect this to be good for us.

This means everything to us. Now we can extract the needed drivers that will work with our hardware (the same hardware the S uses). This is just as good as official ICS.
But this is also a sign that we will get the update soon.

1) being one of 2 or 3 people on this device who actually works with this stuff, im qualified in saying its not any better help than the chinese inc2 roms or the previous inc s ics roms...unless cam libs fix flash timing
2) we need kernel source, and not kernel source for the vivo...i have repeatedly contacted htcdev and keep getting the same run around that they release source 90-120 days after an ota...so for the chinese inc2 ics roms...that could be as late as october
3) no, its not as good as official inc2 verizon ics...not at all...please dont spread false information
edit:
4) it doesnt mean anything in relation to our own timeline as to when we will get vzw sense ics...the inc s got sense 3.0 updates that we never got, and its a gsm phone that updates (in theory) much faster than ours do

Will JB be 100% working for our phone when the tools are released?

At the IO google said that they would release JB developer tools for JB. So will we have the full potential of 4.1 JB?
I ask this because JB probably won't be released (offically) for our phone.
PS: do you think the performance boosts of JB will have an significant effect on our phone? It seemed to on the nexus.
Probably not. We don't have kernel source for ICS as it is, even though our phone is slated to get it, but I wouldn't count on it so getting JB to work on our phone is highly unlikely.

I'm 76% sure we will get ICS. They have it for the S and they said they would release it at the end of August.
You must consider that JB is just an updated ICS. So we don't need an offical JB to have it running 100%. And Google will have a dev tool out that may help us. Lastly they have a dump floating around. Chances are that we can use that to help us build a 100% working ASOP JB build. But this all depends on when or if we get ICS.
Can a dev jump in and let me know of my logic is correct

And you believe everything HTC and Verizon tells you...? that Dev tool is worthless if it doesn't include specific Dinc 2 files that goes once again back to kernel source. That dump isn't as useful to us as you think otherwise we would have fully working ICS on our phones from ICS dumps. Trust me, if it were as simple as you believe it is, our devs would have done it already. The situation with JB is pretty much the same as ICS if not worse since there is also the issue of resizing XHDPI JB to WVGA because there are no JB phones with WVGA resolution. Don't quote me on that last part, but I'm sure a dev can correct me or explain it better.

Nexus S will receive the update and it is a single core WVGA phone. So, I'll be looking closely on feedback from Nexus S users. That should give us an idea of the performance gains that we can theoretically expect, if any, over ICS. And there is no need to be overly cynical about HTC and their promise of giving us ICS. They said they will by August end and so just wait for it. Regardless of what may have happened in the past, you will just burden your mind with needless thoughts...

They said to be determined by the end of August which is a big difference. And honestly at this point I don't really care if we get official ICS anymore I'm pretty content with the work that our devs have done so far without it, if official ICS is so important to some of these users they might as well have just stayed stock and waited for an OTA. I don't mean to take this out on you personally, but these threads about JB and "perfect and bugless" ICS roms have gotten ridiculously out of hand. Not to mention the amount of user that lack to read the threads let alone the OP when it comes to figuring out what bugs exist. Its been clarified by reps at both HTC and VZW that what they meant was that the date is to be decided but that we will have it by the end of August. Take that for what you will, as I don't believe there has been anything official that clarifies this. I am pretty confident that we will get it and can only hope that we will get kernel source soon after.
Back to the OP's question, I highly doubt that we will have a 100% working JB rom anytime soon considering we still have issues on ALL of our ICS roms. Once we have official ICS our awesome dev's will probably be able to get JB working well pretty quickly.

HTC has to release kernel source regardless because of the Chinese OTA they released. It might be as late as October, but they have to release it regardless or else they'd be in violation of some law that has an acronym I can't remember.

OTA ICS will (should) help remove many of the small bugs we have with Camera etc... And once we get a hand on our kernel source, I believe devs will be knee deep in Jellybean goodness... The main reason why I am looking forward for the OTA is for the kernel source... Hell no I am going to go stock.. Once the kernel is up, I am gonna go with Nits' Sense 4 ROM!
The To be determined thing is crappy of them... They say on their FB page that the "Release Date" is the thing to be determined, NOT whether it gets ICS or not... which makes sense given it is in the table of release dates and given they previously confirmed to give it ICS... anyway, time will tell... No breaking my head on this...

Yeah, I should try that ROM too, sometime... I was wondering how functional it is... The Sense 4 ROM has some issues with GPS too (if you toggle it, it will not come back on). But I don't like how Sense 3.6 is.
Even if we don't get an OTA HTC still has to release source because of the Chinese and Inc S ICS OTA. That's why I don't understand why some of the other users are so anxious for an official OTA, even with these other OTAs flash timing appears to still have not been fixed, whatever that is I haven't had it happen personally (knock on wood). We all need to relax and just wait for source to be posted and let the devs do their thing.
On a different topic, anyone else thing the default sig on the XDA app is kind of redundant?

In my experience it was bugless (IC 3.6) although it was laggy. It was laggy in the wrong places (homescreen, and scrolling through certain apps) and smooth in the wrong places (app drawer, GP, settings).

Of course, the reality is about half the guys on here would volunteer to be beta testers given a decent chance as well...
Anyone know if this will come to the phone through the software update option?
In other words, is this official?

Why not just flash the update in stock recovery? You can use ota rootkeeper to protect root.
Also the pro version of mobile odin will flash any of the full fw releases as well as the otas, and it'll reinject root during the process. (Its now my preferred method)
Most people arent going to want to give you their nandroid. theres too much personal info on it. Even those like me who make one right after flashing will be very cautious about this. Theres almost always something in there that is easily forgotten to clear. You could get lucky and find someone willing to do it, just dont get your hopes up too much.

Hey doc got some questions for ya. I came to the gs3 from nexus s 4g. With the ns4g I could always just flash new ROMs and updates in cwm. It seems the process is a bit more complicated on gs3. I purchased mobile Odin, and I've used the PC version a couple of times, but I'm not that comfortable with it. First day I got my gs3 I flashed Mr. Robinson's root injected uvlah2 and just stuck with that. A couple nights ago I finally flashed a new radio and it has helped my signal. I want to make sure my phone is ready for the jb update so what would you suggest?

Its the same with this phone.. pretty much all of your roms kernels and modems via cwm... this is a different case because its a samsung update and hasnt been made into a cwm flashable zip...

Ubuntu for Android Custom ROM for Galaxy Nexus

*****Moderators: please move this over to a different Galaxy Nexus ROM dev area should it apply, but please leave a link to it under this Sub-forum.
I have created what is probably the first custom Android ROM that includes the files for Ubuntu internally, alongside the existing Android architecture. While this is not really a polished release, it has the ability to crash the phone, and requires some tweaking by devs and downloaders. However, for Galaxy Nexus owners (toro for now, soon to be other GNex devices also) this ROM (Rev 2) should boot up after removing one internal zip file. Go ahead to https://sites.google...site/andrevroot for the link about the project, and/or the bottom of this post for
Some things to note:
Comment back what you think about this project, and ROM.
Please keep all comments polite and on topic.
Donate, via bitcoin if you like, as it helps support us, and help create better, more advanced ROMs.
Please look through the whole site
Don't try this ROM if you are new to custom ROMs, try Cyanogenmod ROMs first so you know what you are doing.
I take no responsibility for screwing up your device in any way.
This version is heavily based upon CM10, to the point where it should even say the General CM10 stuff under Settings>About Device. Please do not beat me up over this, it is just because I wanted to get a simple pre-release out there.
This is licensed, please read the License agreement at the footer of my site, you are bound to its terms. Its Creative Commons, but still used.
Thank You for your time, have a nice day.
Above all, do not try to update the CM firmware, as you will lose the ubuntu files contained within!!!!!!

Holy cow, dude this was awesome. I mean... me and this thing clicked instantly. As soon as it booted within 5-10 seconds I got through the lockscreen and then just started dozing through all the apps and swiping. It is a bit slow, not in particular though, probably as slow as Miui. This is just a dev preview, imagine the real thing and I didn't lose to much battery life within the span of 20 minutes. I wanted to keep this on my phone just to test but I couldn't. I'm just waiting for the real thing :victory:

Here's the link to his site which has download links to his Revisions 1 and 2. I've downloaded both and haven't had any luck getting them to flash and his website isn't very clear with instructions on how you're supposed to do so.
EDIT: It seems that he updated the link as I was typing my post. The link to revision 2 is no longer there, and the first revision is hosted on a different site. I'm going to download it and flash it and see if I have any luck.
EDIT2: No dice Jim Rice

So you tried out the ROM, how well did it work for you? Did you like it, what do you want to see changed? I am trying right now to put together a hacked SlimBean version, which is much faster and better to use. Did the Ubuntu side work?
