need help getting iso disk to run on windows 7 - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

anybody know how to get the disc to run on windows 7? ive burned the iso to a disc but when i go to run it it pops up as a file that has 3 files in it. im rooted running cm7 and i want s-off but cant seem to find a solution anywhere. thanks in advance!!! all i have is a windows 7 laptop so im hoping this can be done on it!!!!

Are you talking about getting the revolution S-Off tool on a disc? If so then I recommend using imgburn (freeware) to burn it as an image to a disc. Once that is completed you have to boot your laptop with the disc in the tray.
Most likely your laptop is set to boot from hard drive first. Google how to go into BIOS and set your bootup to boot from the CD/DVD first and hard drive second. Good luck.

S-OFF with USB

Hello again.
I am trying to do the S-Off Precedure With Alpharev, using the noob proof guide and i am stuck. I have downloaded the Alpharev software and on the guide it says you can either put it on USB or burn it to CD... As i have no blank Cd's I have put it onto a USB, but it doesn't seem to be working??
Can someone please help??
no need to waste a CD or USB stick space, try to use a virtual machine instead, much more easy to use

It depends on whether your computer is able to flash from a USB drive. I also had some issues with it. I eventually just burnt it onto a CD.
i burnt it on CD as well
make sure your PC BOOT SEQUENCE is setup to boot from CD driver first not HDD
my main pc was setup to boot first from CD driver. so i had no issues or setting up to do.

I was trying to boot my laptop from USB, for a different reason, and eventually found the option under HDD as an option, rather than a stand alone option.

Hi,
Did you make it a bootable USB stick ? Try with this: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/. "burn" the image don't just copy it.
Also be careful with your USB device size. I've tried making a 16 Gb stick bootable and it didn't boot. It worked perfectly with a 2 Gb USB stick.
When you computer boots press F2 or F10 (whichever is your boot sequence selector) and select boot from USB.
Good luck !

how we going to successfully do that, if it was pulled off the shelf for a bit more testing.
pointless thread #278
I spent an hour trying to get it working on my laptop (vista64), but after downloading and burning a live cd which only took like 20 minutes I had s-off

it's pulled? i downloaded it last night for ****s and gigs, and I have windows 7, it read my phone, but my hboot is now .96 and said was looking for .97... it took me a while to realize how to use it by putting it in ur platform-tools folder inside of adb,
I also have linux instaleld on my laptop, have you tried installed VMware and giving linux a shot to root it? might be worth it EDIT: lol I didn't see this was for windows. my bad.

For all you windows users, i had never touched linux before last night and i installed ubuntu and booted it from my flash drive and had my phone rooted easily. Don't be afraid to try it, it was alot easier then i thought it would be.
You can always jump into the alpharev irc channel and get help, those guys were great help to all of us that were new to linux.

It's been working for me. Try uninstalling all HTC/Android-related drivers and reinstalling if you want to be careful.
No. I downloaded the windows aplharevx tool last week then when I seen it was released l couldn't download it cause it was not avail. So I ran the old one and entered the key into the windows program. . Has something to do with the drivers in hboot I think is the reason the windows s-off program is under review

I had the same issue on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I followed a youtube vid and it worked fine after that. I can't post links yet cause I'm too much of a n00b. So go to youtube and search for a video called: "How to install Android ADB/USB Drivers" by speedy0339. The download link for the 32 bit and 64 bit driver is in the description.
Hope that works for you.

Pop in the Ubuntu Live CD
Boot to it
Select "Try Ubuntu"
When loaded, connect your phone with debugging enabled.
Download the alpharevx package from their site. It went into the Downloads folder by default for me.
Drag it to the desktop
Right click and extract archive (this should make a little "alpharevx" file appear in the Desktop)
Right click on that file and in Properties, copy the file path
Open terminal
Use "cd.." (When I put something in quotes, you type what is in the quotes, not the quotes themselves) then Enter until you are at just the prompt with no path after it. for example.. C:\whatever... do a "cd.." and Enter and it will say just C:
Once you are at just the prompt, type "cd (paste path you copied from file)" and then hit Enter.
You can now type "su ./aplharevx" and hit Enter and it should execute the program. I did not have to type "sudo" only "su"
Make sure when it prompts you to install ClockworkMod, you put a CAPITAL "Y" or it will not install.
That should be it.

[Q] Unable to mount Phone to PC

So I'm currently running JB from Codename Android and I can't get it mount into USB on my computer. I'm running Windows Vista and this is what happens, I connect and it detects it. When I open the folder I see my stuff but I can't copy anything. Then I go into a folder and it stays loading all the items but nothing ever loads. Then it says the device attached malfunctioned. I've tried other ROMs but they do the same. Any ideas?
Hopefully its not an hardware issue. Have tried a different USB cable? In addition it also could be your drivers. I know the WugFresh toolkit which I use has a decent driver install option which ensures the right stuff is on your PC.
I can copy things onto my phone I just can't take anything off. I've tried quite a few different USB cords. Idk. Maybe if I just start over, idk. Ugh! It makes me a little upset.
Try it on another pc. The word "windows vista" makes me scream so loud!!
Please try it on another pc

Well since I have two hard drives, I have Windows Vista on one and Windows 7 on the other, and both don't load. I don't have another PC. :-/ Sucks.
I have a question, does the type of kernel matter? I have Franco's nightly #248 and now that I've thought of it, I usually install that on every ROM. Has anyone else had this problem? Does setting the read ahead file speed to 4098 make a difference?

It has nothing to do with ROMs or kernels. It's MTP. MTP sucks. Try copying stuff using adb pull/push or by accessing a shared folder on your computer via wifi.
I don't have WiFi since its a desktop and I don't really have internet. Haha. Its all good. I guess I'll figure it out. So I've been reading about plugging in a USB stick to the phone, does anyone know where i can get one? I have an 8 GB USB flash drive so I just kinda wanna know.

[Q] Mounting One X as disk-drive

Hi
I recently got the office Jelly Bean update for my One X, but I have one unsolved question.
When I plug my One X into my PC I can't get the internal storage to show up, neither get a menu on the phone to select which mode I want to use. I have managed to get it working in Ubuntu by enabling USB-debugging under developer tools, but neither my Windows 7 laptop or my Mac will do this. They just mount a CD-drive and the only thing I can do is to install HTC Sync Manager. This is frustating as I use a Windows Server to store photos and videos from my phone. The server operatingsystem wont install Sync Manager, and honestly I don't want to install some software I don't need.
How do I get the disk-drive functionallity back in Jelly Bean?
I don't think you can, I use WiFi file transfer pro to exchange stuff on my phone/pc

I understand what you mean by not wanting to install software not needed. Maybe this will be the solution to your problem. I the "[ROOT] One Click HTC One X (AT&T/Rogers/Others) (Win/Mac/Linux)" here on XDA I found a link to the driver only. Maybe this can help you... :fingers-crossed:
I tried using the drivers from the link, but unfortunately they didn't work.
If your phone is rooted you can do it via CWM.

Airdroid uses wireless connection. My computers don't have wireless access.
The JB update enables MTP and disables USB Mass Storage. It should show up in My Computer under 'Media Devices' or something like that. You can view all the contents of the internal memory there. This is the way it is on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and other devices.
MTP compatibility is flaky on Linux and OSX but is built into Windows 7 and works fine. The One X with JB should behave just as described. If its not showing in My Computer at all then something is messed up. Maybe a factory restore will fix it.

You're absolutely right. I got he JB update yesterday and i had the same issue. As it turns out, there are 2 links in Windows 7 in "Computer". One is to install the software but the second one talks about portable devices. Go in there and you will find an option for Internal Storage. It looks like an imitation of Apple iPod where you access the drive that way... Anyway, thanks for the solution.
or you can boot into recovery & mount usb storage from there thats how i do it with TWRP recovery
I eventually got my MTP drivers to force-install correctly by changing the USB network mode to Internet Pass-through. This was the only way that Windows would forcefully look for drivers and HTC Sync manager finally recognised it after this.

I don't understand, does your One X appear like it used to now in My computer? just as a normal disk drive? not this stupid, stupid new way, with limited right-click menu options, no thumbnails etc?

In need of help

So I only have access to a mac and I want to get my One rooted. I have tried creating a Live usb disk with ubuntu on it by following the instructions on Ubuntu. After I put the converted file onto the usb drive, the mac tells me that the inserted device is not recognized. I've tried this 4 times and the result is the same. Also when I restart the mac and hold the alt key I don't get an option for booting from usb. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I only use Mac, I really dislike Windows, but I went the boot camp route to s-off.
Not sure about the boot from USB not working as I have never had a problem with it but here is a page that explains the requirements, hopefully it is helpful
