[Q] Xperia Arc LT15i Camera Enhancement. - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First thing I noticed when I bought the phone was it's powerfull 8.1 mpix camera with eXmor sensor and other cool stuff, but thing that really upset me was picture compression thing, it doesn't matter what picture I take it doesnt go over 2MB's, the hugest photo I've taken is sunset photo it was 2.44Mb, but it was only once, I ask just for some modification to the camera or any application that would help me push the phone camera to the limit, any fix for colors they are not saturated enough sometimes, thanks in advance!!!

Thank you but I've tried it already no difference in quality, I think someone should work on decoding :X

Well, then there isn't more.
I really like the cam as it is...
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk

Yeah, I know thank you anyway, I dont lose hope

Just happen to find this thread and looked into it and made the needed adjustment... But I loaded the same picture in Photoshop with the compressed version VS the uncompressed one and there is an increase in the quality. It's nothing much that you can really see but it's there.
Cheers.

[Q] Camera and image quality - as bad for everyone else or just me?

A lot of fuss was made over the "ImageSense" chip in the One series, especially the One X and One S, but when an HTC tweet mentioned a blog post (also by HTC employees) where they took it out on a trip and took some shots I was eager to see the results. The first impression was that the thumbnails looked great so I clicked through to the full-size images and ......... that's where I sat in shock at how really poor the image quality was. There was noise in around 50% of the image, lack of detail in most areas and it just plain sucked.
I commented on the article, as did others, all commenting on how poor it was for a supposed fantastic camera with all new ImageSense chip. After a while the person who posted the photos replied saying they were uploaded in reduced quality to save on load times and that full versions would be uploaded soon. At that time the full size images that I'd seen were removed. No new images were posted the last time I looked and as I now own the One X I've seen for myself that, sadly, this is the actual quality of the camera. No matter the light or subject I have noise and lost detail all over.
Is my experience here unique or are others finding that, for a supposedly fantastic camera phone with new chip specifically for photos, it just plain sucks?
Photos taken with HOX have a lot of noise indeed.. Sadly, HOX camera cannot compare to my ex iPhone 4s' camera.
EDIT: you might wanna look into that thread.
It's not that the sensor is bad, it's just really really bad compression on the pictures that is applied by the stock camera. Using a different camera app yields much sharper images.
Can you be more specific what app are you using? Isn't compression done before image even reaches any app?
Of course not, compression is performed only when dumping the image to storage. Until then, it's only RAW memory.
I'm facing the same issue now.. I must try another Photo APP...
Any ideas?!
Maybe is the compression you can try to use camera fv-5

I also feel that the camera isnt up to the standard as my old iPhone 4 was. Thought it was just me.
Anyone have a suggestion for a good app that will decrease noise on photo's?
I have problem too

Camera of HTC One X is one of the worst camera since HD2, even HD2 has better camera. The only good thing here is HDR mode, which is also not so good.
One X produces photos with so much noise, dynamic range varies and contrast is bad, and on direct light cant compare even with old Blackberry phones like 9780 or 9800 torch. Colors turn to be cold/blue. Photos are washed out etc etc There are no life in photos.
One X and One followed with BIG ADVERTISEMENTS and MARKETING CAMPAIGN, they are not good camera phones. I was naive to buy it. Now im searching to replace with Incredible S or Sensation even HD2.
HTC Sensation equiped with much better camera. Blacberry 9810 and 9800 has 10x better cameras. Not to mention N8 or E7 Nokia.
Yes, but your sig still says bless HTC..
I changed to SGS4 and the camera is the best i'e seen.. think about doing the same. No hope for Hox..

I have made AWESOME pictures with the cyanogenmod camera APP. And now I reverted to stock and the only difference I get is that images are no longer sharper but after an auto enhance edit I get some pretty nice colors and I'm glad with the pictures again.. I wasn't glad with the macro shooting of cyanogenmod and I wasn't glad with the system overall that's why I got to stock.
Thanks ,Dan.

funny but im not giving up on HTC as ive mentioned.
i will buy sensation or one v.
it is very bizzare company politics of HTC to announce three new models One v, one s and One x and ONE V which is 'value model' has way better camera than 'superior' A class ONE X.
and what we are... donkeys... it is all about some software (loaded on purpose because of that competition stuff) i suppose, same chip, same camera software two different photo qualities,

HTC One X not as good as One S's camera?

Since both devices have the same HTC ImageChip DSP, they both should perform the same, right? Apparently no. According to PhoneArena, "The HTC One S takes slightly oversaturated photos with good contrast and amount of detail. The colors are colder in the case of the One X, and it has more accurate color representation with white balance a bit off in some shots." To me, the shots look better on the One S. You can check it here: http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/HTC-One-X-vs-HTC-One-S_id3005/page/3
Any idea how to improve the one x's cam?

Hi mate, I havent heard the One S is better before, but shall take a read of that link.
But I have asked this question before, and didn't get an answer. (NOT HERE ON GOOGLE!)
I wanted to know, surely theres some tweaks etc you can perform to get the most out of the camera, but I'm no means a camera nerd and havent got a clue what makes a picture better, apart from MegaPixel and ive been told thats nothing to do with quality, just how big you can blow it up.
Anyone have any tips for improving the HTC One X cam?
**edit** : looked at your link.
I definately agree the HTC One S pictures are alot better. What gives?

Thanks mate, taken a look but I'm not on a custom ROM :/
I think im going to HAVE to root my device soon, once I get over the nerves of no warranty !!
Actually, I do know for sure that this is due to crappy JPEG compression. (You can use a third party app like Camera Zoom FX) But still if it is because of that, and the One S is using the SAME camera and software shouldn't it be about the same?

why HOX camera is not good *

hi guys,
im not photographer , but today when i compare my HOX with SGS3 result made me upset a bit .
tried under the different lighting positions , all were good with SGS3.
have been using for 2 years IncredibleS , pics were much better than HOX .
any ideas agree or disagree wit me ?
Hox has very good camera module, you need to play a bit with settings. On auto sometimes it's crappy.

You shouldn't use widescreen mode in widescreen mode you don't have 8mpx you will have just 6 mpx set sharpness to -1 and iso to 100 and this should be the best config for the hox

Personally i'm using sharpness -2, iso & exposure depends on situation and after photo is taken i'm correcting white balance (not always) in editor (because in camera options htc didn't include all AWB settings :<). Photos are grainy but there is a lot of details... overall it's a decent shooter with really clever interface.
I'm a real photographer in real life.. and I always play a lot with my toy camera a.k.a LOMO that still using negative as module.. and what I saw here is modern people style thinking.. my friend, my sensei(teacher) tell me this.. 'a good photo come from a good photographer, not a good camera'.. just use iyapota mod..
and here is sunny day configuration,,
exp = +1
cont = +2
Sat = +1
sharp = +1
ISO = 'it sunny, so test it with low iso 1st and make sure when you are using camera, turn you phone brightness to max so you can see if the photo failed'
Hope this help a little.. For night or dark.. we need a better sensor to focus.. so I always bring torch with me so I can light up subject for focusing before I snap.
shouldnt i select widescreen ?

It all up to you.. it doesn't matter wide or not.. I always use wide.. just make sure you shooting with correct light sources.. that actually what every photographer should know.. low light will giving you a great picture sometime with our f2.0 aperture but any picture still need correct light value to light up photo.. So keep try to find a good and compatible setting for you need. And don't compare picture when it still in phone.. better use pc to see the real quality of a picture. And you need to love the camera so you can learn to use it. Here some sample.
Auto Mode
Sunset Mode
Low Light Panorama
HDR
Or just head to this Thread to see how great our camera if we know how to use it well
Hope it help you.

Are you sure about this? The many comparisons I have seen online always show the One X having deeper colours and less noise in low light. Pictures taking on the S3 seem a little... bland.

My last phone was an IncS and I have to say the HOX outperforms it. While the megapixels are the same, the quality of the lens is better and the image chip in the HOX is better and produces better photos.
Regardless, if I need to take any photos, I use my dslr.

Yup! Correct! It actually need to base on our purpose 1st before saying it is good or not.. Let me give you a situation.. You need to snap 100 of people in one picture.. And you'll need to use a higher mp so when we try to zooming closer when viewing in pc or media viewer it will not have distort face..

Desire hd camera IS THE BEST HTC has made to date it leaves the hox dragging behind faraway with it image processor and fast shutter ( nobody cares about how fast they take the shot HTC but rather the end result picture quality)

There is already a thread on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454053
I found the OP to be very helpful. Read through it and see
qx 10
i order qx 10 from sony centre. Will collect tomorrow..
I just got my QX100 and these are my first impressions:
Good:
+ Incredible photo quality, even the Nokia 1020 isnt close
+ Build quality
+ Good quality 1080p video
+ Fits really good at my Sony Z1 ACX2 case
+ Handy to take with you in a pocket
+ Uses its own memory card and battery
+ Many settings in photo app, feels like a real camera
Not so good:
-The "PlayMemories Mobile" app is so slow and unfriendly to handle
-Takes many many seconds from start to first photo
-Can not use phones built in flash or camera button?
-Battery life doesnt seem that good
-You can not change the folder where it saves the photos on the phone, which makes the photos dont sync with Dropobx etc.
-You can not browse the photos on the camera from the phone
-No way in the app to see which photos (can be auto-copied) and videos (can not be auto-copied) that are saved both on the phone and in the camera memory
-If you copy everything from camera memory to phone memory it will make second copies of the files already in phone memory instead of keeping both folders "in sync".
-No RAW photos
I love everything about the hardware as much as I hate everything about the software. Just the name, "PlayMemories Mobile"?!
I am hoping for an update with RAW files as well as major improvements in the software making it easier to use.
Just replay if you have some specific questions and I will try to answer.
I purchased the Sony DSC-QX10.
Just the novelty of having this cool "toy" and being able to take photos where a normal camera can't.
Would have loved to have bought the QX100, but it's a bit too much bite out of my wallet...the QX10's 10X optical zoom makes up for it though.
The only issue I have so far is there is a slight lag between the QX10 and my Xperia Z1S at times.
Not made for catching any immediate action shots, but stills & portraits are mainly the strengths to the QX10/100.
This definitely isn't a replacement camera, but an additional tool to add to my DSLR camera bag.
Im using qx100 with case for attaching it to z1
Pros
Great photo quality
Z1 acts as detachable viewfinder, useful for filming videos
Supporting tripod
Shutter button on z1 is now supported after the latest firmware upgrade
Cons
Connection is a big hassle, sucess rate is not 100%
When it fails, u hv to shut the playmemories app and the camera down, and restart the connection
After 2 firmware updates, it improves for a bit, still fail to connect from time to time
Playmemories app doesnt stay at background, so.. whenever you mininised the app, you need to re connect the camera with the app once again. Maybe rooting the phone can solve this?
Does not support led flash on z1
When attaching it with z1's exclusive case and take picture with z1's camera, it blocks the view..
You are from Singapore?
U can try getting it from here

Using my XperiaZ running Android 4.2 , taking photo's with QX100 and Play Memories was slow
but bearable. Since 4.3 and now 4.4, it has become unusable. The latest firmware on QX100 improved
only slightly. Any screen touch takes 15 seconds to respond. So photo's can only be made using the
button on the QX100. However, without setting the focus witch requires a screen touch. And without
transferring photo's to the phone (new handy option introduced with the latest firmware and
PlayMemories App), saving 30 seconds each time.
With any other android phone I tried the QX100 (specifically Play Memories) works reasonable
but slow. With all other cons mentioned before. But Sony's Xperia Z is unusably slow. Clearly I'm
very disappointed.
Using a QX10 together with my Z1. Very happy with it. Connection takes around 6 seconds and picture transfer around 2 seconds. (Transferring 2mp photos only). Full res photos get saved to the QX10s sd card and can be retrieved manually anytime.
Looking to purchase the QX100 next. And the Z1 case attachment but its very expensive right now.

I've re-installed 4.4.2 on XperiaZ from scratch using sony's companion software. Now the QX100 (and play memories App) are working reasonably slow. I can take pictures again. I do hope sony can fix the "screen-off camera connection gone" problem for play memories. Restarting takes so much time.
I am happy with my QX10 where it is small and compact, guess most pros and cons are the same.
Just want to share my exp. I bring QX10 to oversea trips and surprise many. Had take selfie with a camera pole attached to it and can position myself better and take nice selfie. Took a few video and the quality is very good. I even took a video of fire work with it and many say its very nice I am happy to get QX10.

just wanted to share my thought on the camera, overall i'm impressed despite the underwhelming review i come across the internet.
also to help people who still concern about the camera performance, the lowlight is even brighter than my perfectly healthy eye.

I couldn't get you link to work, shame. Yes, the camera did get a bad review, but given the technology packed into the phone, I think it should do better than it does. I did a side by side comparison to the Z3 compact and for quite a few of the pictures the Z3 won. I think it was a mistake to put such a wide angle lense on the phone. Yes, it was a good for vistas and views, but the sensor chip struggles with close up work. The camera was useless until Sony released a 'fix' for it. I don't understand how a phone go through the manufacturing process without anyone testing the lense/sensor combination. It's better than it was, now the fix is in place, but it's not the best camera Sony have made.
Manual mode every time, take the iso and shutter speed out of auto and get the shutter down as slow as possible. If you can find the time to put the phone on a tripod, the difference is amazing.

If you can find the time to put the phone on a tripod, the difference is amazing.

well i never know the close up problem tho, is it like can't shoot macro shot or something like that?
are u sure z3 won over the xz1? because i also do that first time trying to compare to the z1. but then i realize it was my mistake because the phone keep shooting in different mode, but if it the same mode xz1 won, everytime

I also had a z1 and z3, and they were good (z1 with some Sony' camera mod was the best!). And yes, in night mode z3 it's better than our new xz1 (but it's at will be covered maybe with patches or mods, maybe in future, because our sensor can take picture with iso lower than it can use now in stock camera app)

first time on xda, maybe i posted in the wrong section. i'm just a noob, my english isn't that good either.
just wanted to share my thought on the camera, overall i'm impressed despite the underwhelming review i come across the internet.
also to help people who still concern about the camera performance, the lowlight is even brighter than my perfectly healthy eye.
check this out oi66 . tinypic . com/34g4tx3.jpg (i put space because i can't post an outside link, 10 post rule)

Wow, SUPER impressed with your low light results while in manual mode. I tried recreating those results in low light conditions myself, but couldn't find the right settings to see that big of a difference. Would you mind sharing the settings you used to achieve that? Thanks!
I see on 4pda people are advising to use SnapCamera. I wonder what is the difference between stock, Snapcamera, and Gcam (if available)?
