Hi Guys,
I had a mishap with my desire hd..Water Damage..I have dried it out with the rice trick..
It comes on and everything is working..the screen is a bit blotchy but I can live with that..
The problem I have got is that phone will charge no problem. However once I disconnect charger the orange led stays on and the battery icon still shows as charging.I have tried different battery apps and they all say it is still charging even though it is not connected to charger.
Has anyone else had this problem..
Many Thanks
Dave
Did you try remove the battery while charging?
The battery seems to charge ok via usb lead...However when it is disconnected and I am using phone the battery icon still indicates as it is charging and the usb icon remains on the top as if it thinks that the phone is still charging and connected to usb...
could be something been damaged by the water
but have you tryed factory reset and see if it fix the problem ?
I have even tried different rom.All with the same result..I wonder could it possibly be the battery itself that is causing it..???I have ordered new battery just in case the water has damaged the battery in some way..Although it is fully charging it may be possibly causing the charge indicator to stay on ...
Just tried new battery.Still the same fault.....Any Ideas Folks....

Had the new phone for a few days now, I got the 'battery low' so plugged the phone to the mains charger, however...
Previously the green battery elements inside the symbol would move from right to left (indicating charging), along with a lightning flash inside the battery symbol, I now get the the lightning flash but no moving battery elements.
The phone indicates the batter is being charged but the battery is not actually taking a charge.
Have done a factory reset in case it's a software issue but no joy - looking like a hardware fault or a knackered battery (already!!) so will take back to CPW tomorrow.
Not good.....

how do you know that the battery is not "actually" taking a charge?

theres aways bound to be hardware issues with the first batch of phones released from the ware house, just the same as there will always be bugs with a piece of software. don't get yourself down about the quality of the phone.

Battery level in About Phone/Battery is stuck on red, even after 45 mins.

I agree, my 'not good' was meant more as it's gonna be a pain to get it swapped and time to reinstall apps etc. I'm an IT man so well aware of 'first batch' issues

Are you charging the phone from the AC adaptor or USB cable via your PC?
Does sound like a hardware issue, I suppose your phone will have a 2 year warranty anyways.

Both - have tried AC and USB.
Get a spare battery to check that the problem is not with the battery
Phew, phone picked up a charge overnight and is now charging correctly (not that I had to do much to run it flat again!).

That's good news. I don't particularly think the offical HTC AC adaptor chargers are that impressive. On my older phone (Touch HD), it was the exact same stock charger from HTC which I used and, on many occasions, my phone's orange LED would not come on at all and was very temperamental. The USB sync cable worked fine though when charging via PC.
mines done this now, discharged overnight for no apparent reason and now very very very slowly charging up again. Hope its not faulty as getting a replacement is going to take weeks!
Last night mine seem to be not taking a charge, it had been plugged in for at least 45 minutes and had the charger symbol on the battery, but when I unplugged it brought up the message saying low power (battery was still at 4%)
Restarted and it seemed to charge ok. Today at work charging off USB is really really slow compared to my G1.

Same charging issue here. Won't charge over USB or AC. The bolt is on the battery but the green isn't moving. The same happened last night but it seemed to eventually start charging in the night.
Same issue here. Bit annoying really, phone is getting rather warm, and not picking up any charge. Going to try a factory reset, see if it helps with my case. Most likely not, but can at least try.
having the same problem now, any chances?
Update, it does charge right now, but i got to boot with the powercord connected. Pulling out the usb cord and putting it back in makes the orange led disappear and it doesnt charge any further until i reboot with the plug in. Kinda odd.. doesnt charge that fast either. Im using rcmix 1.5 and hboot cm7

i had some wtf bug a few minutes ago. the bat showed 63% full and one our later the phone was off because bat 0% Ö_ö i have no clue why, because everthing like wlan etc. was off
Well, it seems to turn out i had an ordinary usb brick. XDA has a thread on this, but these way to restore is easier: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...com/309939/usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed/
i'm on again
This might also be caused by bootloop, as where it keeps restarting & draining your battery. Keep an eye on that as it happened to me once at night. Woke up & phone was all warm & battery empty.
I got a serious charging issue on my Galaxy Nexus yesterday, When I plugged in the my charger, GN charging does not happen. I though there is some issue with Socket, I tried to charge in different socket but same thing happens. Even I tried to charge with different USB charger but nothing happens and GN was not charging. Than I consume the battery full and then plug in the charger than at last GN start charging.
The same thing happened few days back as well but after some tries it start charging.
But now the issue is that Battery is full charged but charging signal is still appearing even I removed the charger.
I don't know, the issue is due to faulty battery or it's software issue.

It sounds like it might be a battery issue. I assume you've tried taking out the battery and replacing it. If you have any other devices that take a micro usb cord, try charging those. If you still can't figure out what the problem is, I think a customer service call would be in order.

I tried with other USB cord charger as well but nothing happens at that time.
But now the major issue is that the charging icon is still appearing even after removing the charger.

I can see that as being a major issue, though your phone obviously isn't charging. Do you have another application or widget that displays your battery life? Does that indicate that you're still plugged in as well?
did you check the port? It might be dirty or something ...had this problem on many devices. Cleaning it with ear bud with alcohol etc could help. And if you have a closer look there is a lot of space in there to accommodate dust and debris

There is an application which shows weather plus battery and it's not showing as Charging....
The main Battery icon is still showing as charging even I tried removing battery many times
Finally the problem has been solved and the main culprit was the charger itself. I changed it with the new one

Yeah i didnt even got the solution yet .But i notice that problem doesn't occur when charging through pc but it charges slowly.I also tried factory reset and even battery calliberation but nothing happened.i will take my phone to care...
HTC desire 816, ! mark while charging.
Experiencing same issue. Tried different charger, no help.
I dont prefer pc charging as its slow and phone discharges quickly.
Any workaround or any solution?
Sounds like some fault in the battery circuit that is limiting charging current. I think a PC uses anywhere from 100 mA to 500 mA but a charger or USB port wired to AC outlet can use 1 A or more. I wonder if advanced wiping of cache and formatting internal data would reset it?
are you using Customized ROM or Stock..?
Did you ever figure out a solution to this issue? My phone is doing this exact same thing and it's super irritating.
I bought a new battery to try replacing it and see if that helps, but I am not a phone tech and don't know about taking the back off of this phone to replace the battery. Hoping someone might have a different solution or at least tell me that changing the battery will in fact help (and then I'll go to the trouble of doing it).
ETA: My phone hasn't been rooted or anything. Was working completely fine. Still works fine except for this charging issue.
It's not that hard to remove the back cover. The plastic is very durable so you can't really break anything. I think there is a youtube video and a few descriptions here on xda. Basically you start @ the SDcard slot using some sort of pry tool to pop the plastic cover off as you go around the phone. Just beware that they use a lot of sticky tape on the bottom half of the phone so it takes a bit more effort to get the cover off. I used old credit cards for my pry tool. Some cut up into strips and other time a whole card to break the sticky tape connection.
Charging Problem
i am having same issue since last day....
i tried full wipe and installed a new ROM and it still having the same issue....
i m out of warranty and any way to fix this issue other than HTC official service..?
I have the same problem. Did anyone find a solution? Would a battery replacement solve this frustrating problem?
I'm having some problems with my wall charger or phone, the battery notification icon doesn't even change when i plug it in. Pluging to the computer works as expected, the icon changes to the charging icon.
I thought the charger was dead so i tried on a friend's zenphone 3, it seems normal on his phone, right on the lock screen it says it is charging (that doesn't happen on my moto z).
I turned off my phone and connected to the wall, the led turned on and it was charging, so it is not completely dead...
Turned the phone on and still no indication it was charging. So i opened the battery status and it says it is charging, it is VERY slow (still at 25% after many minutes) but it says there it is charging.
Unfortunately i couldn't try another charger yet. I haven't modded this phone in any way, still, could it be a software issue? It even got an OTA update yesterday but it didn't solve the problem.
Insert the pin in your device properly or it will charge slowly.
My phone's battery wont charge anymore.
It charges only if I first disconnect battery, plug charger on phone, then turn on phone to boot in android, and then connect battery with phone.
Is this a hardware or software problem?
(i am guessing that there is some switch when battery is full, that it stops charging battery, and only powers phone) if its hardware based, which component should i change
When the 1st time phone stopped charging battery, i did factory reset and it charged battery normally for few times, and now even factory reset doesnt suffice.
Charger and cable works on my other phone and tablet without any problems.
Usb port on phone is probably ok, becouse phone always turns on without battery
Maybe the battery is faulty? I mean if the phone turns on just fine while connected to a power source and no battery installed, I'd assume the battery is dead.

When i charge battery with this method, phone works ok with fully charged battery without charger plugged in.
But when i need to charge battery again, i have to repeat those steps i mentioned before.
I tried a lot of steps mentioned on A2 (not lite) forums, as i seen a lot of users had similar problems tried all options without success, some have changed battery, mb and usb port, and that didnt help either.

Probably your phone's USB connection loosen solder, one of the terminals (either ground, data connection or positive terminal) might loose or gets rusted and thus, never charge phone properly. My SM-J500H (my other phone) does the same syndrome that it just charge but not really charging at all, because of 'green' rusted USB port.
Try checking your USB port and if there's some rust in there, or some loose solder. Try also change USB port (by your technician) if it still persist.
hi, have you found a solution? because i'm having the exact same issue.... phone only charges with the method you mentioned
