Loving AOPK! Best features, stability, speed (even on stock kernel)...
Bugless beast. Reminds me alot of enomthers n1 roms. Not alot of bells n whistles but extremely rock solid/stable and amazing battery life.
Personally not looking for endeless mods although that can be fun. I just wanted a rom that does everthing i need it to do well, and that i dont have to have the phone constantly connected to a power source.
Honestly, from the title of this thread i would assume the OP was talking about the different Galaxy phones on different providers? and not custom roms on the Galaxy Nexus? Maybe he could chime in an clarify this
Is it just me or is there one of these "what's the best" threads created daily?
good day.
hands down the best rom out there is Liquid on rootzwiki no question!!!!!! It does everything every other rom does plus more.
aokp + franco
I'm using FoxHound ROM. Good performance, nice custom features and a nice black theme...

Okay just so everyone doesn't think i'm crazy from my post earlier.....the original thread title was ( What do you think is the best galaxy from and why?) till the OP edited it!

Long 'u' btw.
I think people missed the point of this thread. I see people asking what is the best from all the time. What I wanted to know is why people decided to choose the rom they are currently using.
Is it because you wanted a ton of features, do you want to keep to the stock experience as much as possible, etc etc.
The question was, "What do YOU think is the best rom and why?" It wasnt, "Tell me what the best rom is because I can't find out for myself?"

The best ROM out there is the one YOU want because of what features it has to offer. Go read all the ROM threads and take a look at the features, screenshots, user feedback.
You don't need a special thread for yourself for people to tell YOU what's the best ROM. There is no absolute answer to that question. It's like saying what is the best car out there? the best car is simply the one that fulfills your needs.
This goes for kernels as well and there are 50 other threads with this same question. Use the search feature and read existing threads.
Stock rom on gsm model is the best
Why? Using 2000 mAH battery, I could get 3 and a half hour screen on time with more rhan 3 days stand by. Or almost 6 hours screen on time with 2 days stand by

Gotta atleast try AOKP. Customization, battery life, extra features and runs smoooth. Although every phone is different you might just want to try a couple different ones and see which one is best for your phone.

I'm looking to upgrade my dads phone. He has a custom GB ROM I already put on there months ago but since sprint finally rolling out ICS I was wondering what was best...cm9? F18 leak? He just wants ROM that is stable and has hacked hotspot.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Well if he want a stable rom with Hotspot hack i recommend getting Phantom Blazer 4.1 Rom. But if he wants ICS roms CM9 will do.
I'm running M'ICS v 1.1. stable, good battery life and has sprint hotspot.
Let's be honest here, there are probably a dozen of these threads out here and I am quite sure a few quite recently. You could get a million different answers since it all really depends on the user themselves. There is so much that goes into deciding whats best for you I never get asking others. I mean opinions are great but personal experience is the best.
If you are just going to do if for every day use then flash the stock FF18, throw a recovery on it and flash the hotspot hack in themes and apps voila! you're done!
Sorry was not trying to flame I understand what you are asking just don't think a dozen people giving you different answers helps you. All the roms in development are great but all come with a little kwirk here or there.

Stability is one aspect, battery life is another. Best suggestion is to read through the threads of the roms that interest you and what style you like and test the battery life on it.
I personally like Wicked 1.5 and have 3 1/2 to 4 hrs on screen time. But that may not be the case for you. Based on what you run, how you run...
Browse away and give 'em a try but take head to flashing responsibly and read, read, read so you don't brick your phone.

I completely get it. It is alot to absorb.
There are 2 posts that I know of which are polling people about the roms in use but its all a matter of taste.
Besides the fact that some may be partial to a particular team, dev, etc.
Its just a hard question to answer.
Best solution is to try if you're willing. But there are safe kernals now and great people to give you advise if you get stuck.

Thanks...but I'm not an ICS virgin by any means...my ASUS TF tablet has been running it for a while now. Just thought it was time to take the leap for my phone finally.
Guys, quite bluntly - what is the best ROM? And no, I don't believe this comes down to preference. I think we all know what we want in a ROM:
-Stability
-Battery life
-Excellent performance
-Bloatware removed as much as possible
So let's hear it.
I've tried Diet ICS and right now I am running KyanROM. Diet ICS had poor battery life, but I am not sure why - only when data was on. KyanROM, I left the power saving mode on and it's been great so far.
You made a poll with only 4 roms? And you placed it in the wrong section? And...you asked a question that has no correct answer?
Yeah...it really does come down to preference.
Flash some roms. Give them a test drive. Then choose which is best for you.
wrong section not enough roms in the poll and like nun said comes down to which one fits you best
i found this thread hilarious 10/10

What a shame. You pretty much have anybody reading "And no, I don't believe this comes down to preference" laughing themselves out of their chair and thinking you're one extremely ignorant guy.
ROM's ARE preferential. First and foremost, some ROMs simply work better on some phones than others (smoothness, battery life, gps lock speed, etc.). Next, everyone has different preferences and needs per ROM and its features.

At least for me it is atm! Neverending process, tests will go on! *hehe*
Recently I found this on the XDA portal...am about to try it out.
I have been using Android Revolution for quite a while now and i must say performance and battery life is impressive, as good or maybe a bit better than WanamLite. But there are multiple good rom`s out there and the best thing to do is try them out and keep the one you love/suites the best.
It depends actually. Don't get me wrong but I definitely agree that Omega is the best out there.
Why Omega?
Indie is a great developer. Very nice guy and respected. He gives support to nearly everyone whenever he can. So, kudos on that part.
On Rom side, I really love the fact that there are 3 options (default, bloatware free and custom) for you to choose from. I know others have this but let's stick to the topic ya Battery wise, I would say it might not be the best 'out of the box' but it certainly hit my top 2 spots and that's for sure. However, a simple tweak(s) will make your phone blazing fast with superb good battery life.
Also, if you are themer, Omega team has quite a few seriously experienced themer. Love their theme honestly.
Last but not least, many people actually love Omega maybe because of the support they provide. I was once new like those newbies in the past and it was a few Omega team members who assisted me along the way. Glad they were there!
So, yes. Sometime (at least for me), trying a new rom is not about the rom itself. The dev and the team plays a huge role as well.
Just my 2 cents ;laugh:
I still the "the best ROM" is too subjective a phrase. What suits one user won't suit another. Omega and wanam are deservedly popular because of their great work on the SGS3.
I'm still looking for that elusive total black/white theme, otherwise happily trying every custom ROM I can find (had my n2 16 hours, and already flashed 11 times..).
I've never "got"CM either, and as Samsung evolves, it seems more pointless than ever. What on earth is the point of buying a Samsung device only to remove its useful stuff like Smart Stay, etc? I like the way CM fanboys have convinced themselves that no radio and a suboptimal camera are actually really great. CM belongs on the Nexus IMHO.

Can´t agree on that one...but this is just a matter of taste, of course! I don´t like ANY of the provided themes, I find them rather ugly to be honest  (but this is absolutely NO offence, perhaps I just have a strange taste^^). As posted above, there is only this one mod that really looks nice to me!
Yeah, I like that theme, but I'm stil on 4.1.1. I'm aware of vertumus - sorry, THE MASTER VERTUMUS - tried his domination theme on the SGS3, it didn't really float my boat TBH.
I prefer no colour at all anywhere - nitroz's Exodus or pele's BAT themes from SGS1/2/3. Boring, huh

I just received my S3 a few days ago and have just now been following threads to scope the scene. I am aware that I can create a backup and play around with the ROM's myself, and I will do that actually. Before I do this I would like YOUR opinion on the top ROM and why. tldr; What is the best (US) Galaxy S 3 ROM based on stability, battery time, performance, features and look/feel.
That's a tough question as everyone has personal opinions of different Roms and each device will also handle each ROM different in my opinion this will only turn into a this ROM is better than that ROM thread and that is not good

It depends on what you are looking for from a ROM.
If you want stable stay with stock TW
If you want latest and greatest chose AOSP/AOPK Rom.
Both are now on 4.2 which is much smoother and faster than TW.
No bloatware of course. Better battery life with custom kernels etc...
CM 10.1 is great
Tasks AOPK is better IMHO at the moment. CM is updated nightly which is a plus it minus... Task updates his ROM less frequently but it's a lot more stable at the moment...
Which ever ROM you choose if not stock READ entire OP make sure you follow it to the T and then read all posts as they tell you all about bugs and workarounds

I always follow the instructions to a T, I want the best experience possible out of anything I flash ever. You mentioned better battery life with the Kernels, any experience with ktoonsez's or Task's kernel? Could you give me some estimate figures (example: 5 hours battery on stock, 8 on ktoonsez)
Running Illusion (CM based Rom) with the latest KT747 and no issues here, so I disagree with the guy above. I prefer stock android which is why I like roms like Task's AOKP and CM10.1 the most. It all comes down to preference.
Running Tasks AOKP 4.1.2. With lean kernel. Never crashes never any problems. Most stable custom ROM I've ever used. 4 hours screen on time, best battery I've ever gotten.
Just waiting for some updates on 4.2 then I will upgrade.

Thanks, orig dev I think was the only one I didn't click on.. Time is limited taking care of a 6month old..
This just ends up being a popularity thread.
I'm a huge AOKP/CM10 fan, but right now those ROM's don't have the one thing I need (USB-DAC) so I'm stuck with TouchWiz based ROM's.
I flashed Ultimatum ROM last week and have yet to have a single issue with it.
It's mostly stock with minor tweaks, so it SHOULD be a reliable ROM.
I then flashed a 23toggle mod with blue icons, so I at least have a good looking ROM also.
I find myself always restoring a debloated version of DG's m7 stock based rom with tasks kernel. I use rom toolbox as well to help tweak certain battery consuming apps. I usually lose 3-5% overnight on standby(7 hrs if I'm lucky and my kids let me). I think juice deffender helps me as well. Performance is pretty good but I'm a battery dork. The thread is probably back a couple pages now if you want to look at it. All of these dev's make great roms though. Try them all. Its called flashaholic and i'm a member.

I had the same question, but about the newer 4.2.1 roms. I want to upgrade, but i'm not sure which one will work best for me. Seems like Task and KTz joint is the most popular right now, but CM10 has been my daily. AS far as TW, I keep going back to Bacon Step with KTZ kernal becasue i use bluetooth alot and its my last TW backup. I want 4.2, but i need bluetooth to listen to my podcasts. What 4.2 rom has working bluetooth audio?
I was looking through the tons and tons of roms and found a lot that I like but I want to know what everyone else thinks? I am looking for a visual stunning rom that offers lots of eye candy and one that overall still looks good but is very clean with the best performance. Of course I would like that to all be in one rom but I don't seem to see anything. Thanks for your opinions!!
The best rom...is the one you enjoy the most...
No one build catches the eye for everyone in the same way..

If you want optimized Samsung 4.1.2 I like CleanROM ACE 4.9
It has great battery optimization and is fast. Great if you want Samsung apps and stuff.
Also depends on what launcher you use. I always use Nova launcher.
Everything has already been said
ALL ROMs are the best for those that use them
