So before I bash this update I first want to say that the leaked 4.04 is a step in the right direction with the benefits far out-weighing the negatives.
I was just wondering if anyone has experienced the phone rebooting. Since i updated to 4.04, I have NOT had the phone reboot on me while I was in the middle of a task however it seems to reboot when I wake it after its been "asleep" for a while. It doesn't happen all the time and it seems very random.
I would be interested in hearing other people's experience.
I was running GNex completely stock, locked and unrooted. When I found out about the update I simply unlocked the boot loader and flashed 4.04. Afterwards I just left the boot loader unlocked.
Thanks,
Kesnik

I have had no reboots since flashing a week ago. At least that I know of.

I have had random reboots, but only experienced this after installing the tethering hacking. When I removed the hack, the reboots went away. Not sure if you have this hack installed or not, but this is what is causing my device to reboot.

Can't find an answer to this on google or xda. Didn't know if I should post this in General or Q&A.
I have been using my Incredible since it came out. I quickly learned about rooting, roms, s-off... with no problems. I have been running Skyraider almost from the beginning.
Here is the problem: A few days ago, I noticed on the SR thread that there were updates for the radio and hboot. So, I went ahead and flashed them. Almost immediately I started noticing the screen becoming unresponsive. After a minute or two I did a battery pull, rebooted, and again after a little while, freeze and reboot. I also noticed that even when the phone is awake but screen off, it would wake itself up. The rebooting and freezing makes it impossible to use my phone.
I tried everything I could think of:
Nandroid restore (obviously didn't work since this doesn't effect hboot or radio).
Reinstalled fresh SR Rom wiping everything, including dalvik, and did factory reset.
Finally, I downgraded back to the hboot and radio versions I had before, still no effect. (Baseband version 2.15.00.07.28, hboot .79 ).
I tried installing another ROM (Uncommon sense) to make sure it wasn't a ROM issue, ..same problem.
Please, any help would be much appreciated. I don't know what my next step should be.
do you overclock at all?

No overclocking, I don't use setcpu, and I have been running the stock kernel. But it does feel like overclocking.
I wonder if the timing of events is just coincidence and its a hardware issue. I've had my Inc since June... rooted s -off in july and had no problems until about a month ago. I don't oc I use the new stock kernel but my phone hates change. Even flashing a small mod will cause rebooting.... and navigation always causes it. Phone heats up fast with these particular activities too but sometimes it will reboot at only 35c after a flash. I'm thinking hardware

Thanks,
You may be right.
For now things are working, let's hope they stay that way.
So I have an unlocked GSM Galaxy. I'm still running 4.01
Every time I restart my phone, I get a message saying "Android is Upgrading" but it never upgrades to 4.02 (or .03 or whatever it should be upgrading to). Is anyone else having this issue?
I have NOT rooted yet.
When I go to check for updates it says my phone is up to date.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
pretty sure this is normal. everytime i flash something it does it to me, but every reboot after that it's fine.

have you done any mods?
usually you get the android is upgrading when you install a new app or wipe the dalvik cache. the android is upgrading is the apps rebuilding in cache.
its quite annoying and you shouldn't have it on every boot (just the first or after a mod)
I get the same thing on 4.0.1..I'm pretty sure its normal. At least for this build

I think what it might be doing is wiping cache.

Mine does this to and it's kind of annoying
Mine does it every time I turn the phone on and off. Still on 4.0.1 ITL41F build too on AT&T in the US. Lasts for 2 or 3 seconds and then the phone boots up. I thought this was normal behaviour of Android trying to search for updates. Is this not happening to everyone?

OK, my friend's Verizon Nexus doesn't do it for some reason. Also, I get the notification to upgrade to 4.0.2, but it never upgrades...even if I accept the update. I thought the "UPgrading Android" and this issue were connected.
Is anyone else getting the 4.0.2 notification then the update isn't applying?
Also, I have not rooted or applied and mods to the phone. I may try a factory reset and see what happens, obviously I don't want to do that, but I'll try.
Oh and it happens every single time I boot the phone.
thanks for all the responses!
I get this, 4.0.1 UK model here.
I am sure though after a few restarts of nothing major changing then it stopped?
I used to get this on 4.0.1, but since I force upgraded to 4.0.2 I havent seen it. I downloaded to official 4.0.2 from here and applied it through CWM.
has anyone who is having this problem received the 4.0.2 upgrade notification then been unable to upgrade?
That's the boat I'm in now. It won't upgrade. I'm thinking about doing a factory reset.

Most people are sure that the 4.0.2 update got pulled as there were too many bugs with it. I wouldn't worry about it.
Just to clarify...this has happened to me about 4 times...
1) I'm notified of the update.
2) I click update now
3) I get the android guy with the lightening in his belly showing that I'm updating
4) phone restarts
5) I get the Upgrading Android and Upgrading Applications messages
6) Phone completes booting
7) When I go to about Phone Android version is still 4.0.1
Then steps 4,5,6 and 7 always repeat any time I restart my phone ever since I got my update notification about 2 weeks ago.
So, it seems as its trying to upgrade to 4.0.2 everytime I restart but it can't.
Whether they pulled the update or not, my phone was being pushed the update but was unable to update. So basically, I'm thinking will I ever be able to update or should I just wipe now as there is clearly some problem?
I get this too, on the 4.0.1 build. Only takes a few seconds tho, nothing too annoying, I thought it is normal. But thinking about it, my Desire S with a ICS custom rom only did this after an upgrade or a modification...
But I haven't got any 4.0.2 update notification yet. Received my Nex on the 28th of December.
I just ended up rooting, upgrading to 4.0.3 and its never happened again. Thanks everyone though for the feedback.
I'm on 4.0.2. Had the phone a week, it updated to 4.0.2 the first time I turned it on, then again after I unlocked the bootloader and nothing else.
It's a UK vodafone.

I have an International GNex running on T-Mobile US: I've had the same message "Android is upgrading" on all reboots when I was on 4.0.1. Since the 4.0.2 update (received OTA on January 11), the message never appeared again.
Hope this helps
Hi community. I'm new to thus phone. I've been around for a while but never created a profile here. I unlocked the boot loader and rooted it. First from installed is aopk with Franco kernel. Seems to be running okay but I am getting random force closes here and there from different apps. Not sure if this is ice issue or rom. Its intermittent so not an annoyance yet. Got some freezes when typing horizontally on the keyboard and xda app fc as well as other apps. I am running yakju. Would I benefit from just going back to stock and just keeping unlocked boot loader and rooted? Is there more stability with 4.04 vs 4.2 ? Being as this is my first Google phone I'd like to always get updates from Google without too much hassle. Please input and I'm always willing to take criticism.
When you get freezes and closes from apps randomly, I always tend to blame the rom. It could be the kernel too.
If you're wanting official updates then I would go with the stock rom. I flashed a custom rom and tested a few of them out and they were pants so I just roll with a rooted stock rom.
Just flashed the new Franco kernel and it sped things up. Haven had any freezes yet. Just running the kernel out of the box without any tweaks. Seems snap pier too, specially in app drawer.
I successfully unlocked, s-offed, rooted my phone. When i put android revolution hd on it the wifi and maybe cell didn't work or something like that.
Anyway I have since updated to 4.4.4 and my phone has been very slow at times and sometimes will actually freeze up for a few minutes till I reset my phone.
Does anybody have any advice? Should I flash stock stuff on to potentially clean anything off? I haven't re-rooted the device since the update removed that.
Thank you for your time.
As the title says, phone has randomly rebooted
... twice in the last few minutes, both times I had picture in picture going while sending a text...has anyone else experienced this? Also, the boot time is amazingly fast at least!

Did you do a wipe when you flashed or just update? If you just did an update, I would try to reinstall and let it wipe the device.
Yup. I'm experiencing this as well. Happened to me twice yesterday. Maybe try a factory reset?

Having the same issue did a complete factory install with the stock image.
Then rooted not sure if that is causing my issues but, is anyone else stock not rooted having random reboots?
I've had 3 reboots since jumping on Oreo. Did my update the clean way through a factory reset and flashing a factory image. Stock, unrooted.

Stock, updated via ota... Having 5 to 6 reboots per hour. Google is sending a replacement phone.
Maybe you have to do a factory reset.
Reason why i havent upgraded. Still on a rock solid nougat until google fix all this problems. Maybe 8.1 or so. Seem like reboot is a common problem with the pixel,. All thread about orea theres someone talking about his reboot problem in many different sites.

That sounds much like a hardware failure... :crying:
I had random reboots too coming from DP4 to FInal. No more random reboots since I flashed the factory images
Is 8.0 the version that is the start of the new OS updating system? I wonder if the partitioning is getting all screwed up? I think I'll stay on 7.1.2 for a bit longer till this gets ironed out.

Just don't download the OTA till they send out a patch. That's what I'm doing.

when i first updated to oreo and rooted it, i ran into the rebooting issues some of you are experiencing. i think the root of my issue was busybox. i did a clean install of oreo again the other day and rooted, but didnt put busybox on the phone. phone ran fine for a day, so i tried giving busybox another go. the reboot issues came back. hope this helps
Mine only reboots randomly if I have YouTube picture in picture enabled once I disabled it I haven't had any reboots maybe try to disable that
Just did the update a couple hours ago and so far so good. Picture in picture works too. Stock, GPE on VZW, no root or anything.

Guys, anyone still getting random on persistent reboots on Oreo with Pixel (XL)? I'm doing my second factory reset atm and monitoring these two threads on buganiser - 1, 2. Basically people started getting reboots after upgrading to Oreo and one notable common thing is: 'Sense Key : Hardware Error [current]' which Google reps assigned to the threads read as hardware issue (probably with Toshiba's memory chips being prone to overflow/overload (?)). They haven't answered my question why is it only happening on Oreo though. I REALLY don't want to go through the warranty process again only to get a device with the same problem as I still believe it can be fixed in 8.1. Is there anyone who had similar issues that got fixed with the 8.1 Beta? Cheers!
I'm experiencing the random reboots too.
Oct. 8.0, Magisk, Root
I almost missed an alarm due to this, so I think I may go back to Nougat. Not only does it reboot, but it gets stuck in the boot screen. If I hold Power and reboot, it comes up though.
