God, they're such a horrible company as carriers go, IMO.
Why the iPhone? No option for SGSII? The Galaxy S Note is coming soon too... So sad to see you go man.

Oh No MetalHead! What Happened???
He must support SOPA, frivolous patent lawsuits, be against big corporations, afraid of change, andjust enough freedom to change your wallpaper. And I agree with Oscar about att, they have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with EVER!
Anyways usually people who have used android and got stuck with an iPhone are desperate to come back within a few weeks.
I could never imagine going from 4.52 screen to 3.5 screen .

based on my past, you think id be here to bash you for switching to iphone. im not going to. youre an adult, you understand your choice.
question is, Sprint sells the iPhone and wont cap your data. why leave for theirs? no upgrade availability?
I won't comment IPhone part but AT&T as carrier is horrible. After 7 years of service I paid termination fees for 3 lines (only 4 months after accepting last 2 year term) because of their horrible customer services (t-mobile cs is not far away from them). Not to mention your 2GB data limit on AT&T, and increased termination fees....
If AT&T somehow manage to become only wireless carrier I will move to PAYPHONE, but won't go there... but that just me. Good luck! Sorry if my post wasn't on place...

I went with AT&T because Sprint's data speeds have gotten worse and worse. There's no point in having unlimited data if you can't even use it. I could leave my E4GT downloading something at full speed for a month and not even hit the 5GB cap that I have with AT&T now. I have been averaging 100-150 kb/s which is absolutely ridiculous. AT&T's HSPA+ gets me anywhere from 5-6 mb/s on average and that's faster than I was getting with Sprint's 4G, when I was able to actually lock on to a signal. There was seriously no point in having such a bad ass phone if I couldn't even use data on it. I also tried Verizon and the Galaxy Nexus a month or so ago and was not happy with their service, and couldn't justify leaving the E4GT for a device that was for all intents and purposes, inferior. So that left me with T-Mobile and AT&T, and T-Mobile's phone selection sucks.
Now for the why I got the iPhone. My intentions originally were to grab the SGS2. I knew for a fact that I was going to love it, so I wanted to take advantage of the 30 day buyer's remorse period and try something different for a few weeks, return whatever I got and then pick up the SGS2. It was between the iPhone and the Titan. I opted for the iPhone because I have an iPad 2 and already have a ton of universal games that I can download right away to the iPhone. The screen is tiny on it, but the more I use it the more comfortable it is. I don't have to do any type of finger acrobatics to reach the farthest corners of the screen. So yeah it's tiny but there is a plus to that. And the retina display is lovely (black levels suck but it's a fair trade off). So after having the iPhone for a couple weeks I really started to fall in love with its simplicity. It really is a beautifully made device, and iOS does feel very elegant to me. I swear to god my intentions were to return it but I love it now, what can I say. What's crazy is that I really thought I was going to hate it (and I did for the first couple of days).
So now, I have decided that I would stick with the iPhone over the SGS2- I already had an SGS2 variant and I am digging the change. So my other option now is the Note and man that thing is slick. But it has a strike against it already- Snapdragon. Not a real Galaxy device in my eyes. Whatever though, the Adreno 220 is a sick GPU so I'll let it slide. So I go to Best Buy the other day and they have a dummy Note on display. It's f*cking MASSIVE. No way in hell would I be caught dead holding that thing against my face. It quite literally makes the E4GT look like an iPhone size wise. Seriously, hold an iPhone up to an E4GT and that is roughly the same size difference between the E4GT and the Note. It is way to big to be practical for me so it is ruled out.
So now I have decided to keep my iPhone. I have looked into jailbreaking and all the available mods and there are tons. I think I'm going to have a lot of fun modding this thing, and you would be surprised how many ways you can customize it. Dare I say it, but it does seem you (the average modder) can do more with a jailbroken iPhone than an Android phone, and I haven't even scratched the surface of it. I still love Android, of course, and I do miss a lot of things about it terribly, but I am enjoying my time with my new iPhone.
One of the perks of AT&T over Sprint is this whole sim card business. I already started searching craigslist for a good deal on an SGS2 so I can have both devices and switch 'em around depending on my mood for the day. I most definitely will get another Android phone, there is no question about it.
So that's my story. I haven't switched alliances, I am still an Android fan first, I am just having an affair with the iPhone
metalhead, as it so happens, i received my epic 4g touch today and i'm coming from at&t. the reason i'm leaving at&t is because i'm on unlimited data plan and they're sending us (customers with unlimited data) texts and emails saying that we're in the top 5% of data users and that if we continue, our speed will be throttled. (last month i used close to 2gb of data and they still sent me the text.) this throttle will only be for unlimited plan customers, not for tiered customers (so you wouldn't be affected by throttling). but if they treat me like that, who has been with them since 1999, i can only imagine how bad they'd treat new customers. i'm sure they'll find a way to screw you guys too...
p.s. i have a family plan with 5 phones total and that doesn't matter to them.

I have to agree with you on the sprint data. Not enough to make me go to an iphone but I'm finding it harder and harder to justify paying for a useless unlimited plan. I live in an area where the fastest 3g speeds I've seen are 100kbps so I have to use the prl hack to get a whopping 600kbps. On top of that, the only 4g service around me works for about a one mile radius around best buy so they can show off how fast the network is. Other than that the closest 4g is about two hours away. but I still get charged an extra $20 a month for two phones for "premium data".
Lol @ iPhone.

I'm currently with AT&T on a family plan, but my contract has expired and am possibly looking to Sprint for the EVO 4G. How do you all like the EVO, and if you had to do it again would you still get the EVO?
Sprint's coverage map doesn't seem to be as good as other carriers, but I hear that's improving all the time. And there's no 4G access in southern California where I'm at. We travel to Vegas a lot though, and Sprint has 4G there. Can anyone tell how well Sprint's 3G access is in southern California? I'd be using GPS a lot, as I hate having to carry around a dedicated GPS unit.
The $30/month plan for WiFi sharing seems a bit steep, but it's unlimited compared to Verizon's 2GB sharing limit, and it's not even offered by AT&T.
I would get the evo again without a second thought. Save yourself the $30 a month, root the evo and get wireless tether for free.
Ben
I am in Northern California but I visit Southern California alot...never had one problem with California or anywhere I travel which includes Michigan, Georgia, Texas, and Neveda.
Sprint map doesnt accurately show where coverage is because my oldest son who works for ATT has owned all the iphones from the beginning and his service is more iffy than mine.
Back to Evo, I love it and would buy it again if I had to.
I've had many android phones even an evo I gave the evo to my wife and got the epic by far the epic is the best phone I've had to date I liked the evos build and screen size but the 30 fps is horrible the battery is horrible and hdmi is pointless because the evo only takes mp4s and when they get stretched out on tvs look like crap

The Evo has mostly replaced my desktop computer. It's just plain awesome. If you use you computer (Evo) like I do, buy some extra batteries. I hike with it, hunt with it, places that would be hard to stop and charge the phone. The GPS and Maps program work great. 3G is mostly everywhere. If you have to roam to Verizon towers, then you will be experiencing 2G speeds. The $10 bucks a month additional charge for the Evo, permits true unlimited data. I am sure Sprint wishes it were $20 more for how much data I use. Remember: When thinking of the Evo, it is a very portable computer that you can also make calls with. ps: All of the smartphones have a similar battery life (between charges) unless the phone is rooted. I get 50fps and as high as 50 Mflops on my Evo. Meaning, it will go head to head with the best phones out there. The Evo can be as mild or as wild as you would like it to be.
Evo, best phone I've ever owned. If I have to do it again I wouldn't even think twice about it. Only wish I can afford another one since I dropped my baby while running, now she's all scratched up but still working great.
Northbay CA here and service is awesome. I work in the lower level (basement) and no carrier will I mean no single carrier other than Sprint will get reception let alone 3G. I get great 3G even in the basement average 900 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. Main level (street level) average from 1.4 Mbps to 2.1 Mbps under 3G, no 4G yet. At home is okay at 900 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps.
Edit: I to switch from more expensive AT&T to sprint cheaper discounted monthly family everything data plan.
The Evo is amazing and I would buy it again in a heartbeat over ANY of the Android phones out right now. There are phones with better processors, and some with better screens, but the Evo is the sum of its parts and is IMHO the best phone on the market.
Rooting is incredibly easy and will give you the ability to use wifi tethering for free, among many other awesome things. We are very lucky to have such incredible developer support. There are a whole bunch of great ROMs and kernels out there for you to truly customize your phone and squeeze every last drop of performance out of it.
You will be very happy with your Evo if you decide to get it.
Words cannot express how much I live this phone. Screen size might seem daunting, everyone comments on the "size" (which isn't anything new) but once you go big you can't go back. Sprint has also always been great for us, obviously that might not be the case everywhere ... but all in all it's been a more than enjoyable experience for me.

You're asking if an Evo is nice on a forum filled with Evo fanboys.
Here is the bottom line:
iPhone vs. Evo - the iPhone wins.
Sprint vs. ATT - Sprint has MUCH better coverage and price, ATT has better capabilities such as Voice+Data at same time and much faster 3G speeds
Those are the only difference. In reality, the Evo being able to become 'customized' does not make up for its short comings. The battery is utter ****, the screen resolution is not nearly as good as the iPhone 4, it tends to get laggy and stuck in situations, and is generally not reliable.
Only ****ty thing? You have to use it with ATT or Tmobile
Don't let these fanboys talk about how superior their phone is to the new iPhone. Its not even close but then again Apple makes amazing products.

Uh, I'm starting to see why people called you a troll.
Anyway, I'll give you a unbiased view on the EVO.
The build is great but not amazing, the display size is without a doubt a benefit. You'll never want to use a 3.5"-3.7" phone again. The processor will pretty much do anything you want, it's not like you'll be running Photoshop on it or anything. TBH, pretty much any current gen CPU will do. The GPU however does leave something to desire. In terms of comparison, it's about half of what the iPhone 4/DroidX is and almost 1/4 of what the Galaxy S line (Epic 4G, etc) is. In real use, most 3D games are playable but the frame rates aren't smooth. You'll also find yourself looking at lag when you run live wallpapers. I'm especially worried about how it'll handle future versions of Android which I believe will be GPU accelerated.
OS-wise, Android is good, it does as much if not more than iOS; just not as fluid UI/UX-wise. BUT I do have a strong belief that this will change with 3.0 which I can't wait for. HTC Sense is a mixed bag, I personally couldn't get past its complete ugliness (I'm a designer/developer -- not mobile though) and some things are badly done (like sticking XML into your Gmail contacts for Facebook/Twitter syncing.. agghh..). On a plus side, it does add some useful things like iOS-like copy and paste. I however use Cyanogen Mod which basically ports an enhanced version of stock Android; I find CM to be MUCH better in terms of user experience and design. I also have a iPhone 4, and if CM wasn't around, I'd probably keep my EVO in my bag 50% of the time and only take it out to use it as a 4G modem and secondary business line (Google Voice!).
Another good thing with the EVO, which I just mentioned, is 4G tethering. I get consistent speeds of 5-10Mbps and it's great. Well worth rooting and the extra $10.
I've never used the HDMI out, and probably never will. The kick stand is a plus, I find myself using it at work a lot while listening to Grooveshark (which I might add is a amazing Android app).
The battery life got knocked hard in reviews, and it's still not as good as my iPhone 4, but after knowing what to do, it's not bad either -- I get something like 15-20 hours with normal use.
Sprint's plans are pretty much unbeatable. I'm in NYC and get great coverage and speeds. Can't complain.
As for would I do it again? When I got the EVO, I already knew about the Epic 4G and it's better specs (mostly the Super AMOLED display + much better GPU), but the build is crap (including the keyboard) and I don't trust (software-wise) Samsung at all. I'm somewhat disappointed by the EVO's GPU but if I were to get a free choice between the Epic and the EVO (or any other Android phone on any other carrier due to it's price, 4G tethering and 4.3" display), I'd still get the EVO.
Once Cyanogen figures out 4G, it'll be a great phone with only one flaw - it's GPU.

I think it all depends on the type of user you are. I owned all four generations of the iPhone before the EVO and my wife has an iPhone 4 yet I prefer the EVO.
But, I am not the average user nor is anyone else that reads XDA. The average user doesn't read developer forums, or any forums for that matter, to learn how to get the most out of their phone.
If you are an average user who doesn't want to root or tinker I would recommend the iPhone and nothing but the iPhone. It is beautiful, simple, and just works; not to mention the app store is far superior. However, if you are an above average user (which you probably are if you are here on XDA in the first place) I would without question recommend the EVO.
Out of the box, the EVO is a great phone but it is loaded with Crapware and limited in potential. It's like having a Porsche with a restrictor. But, rooted and unleashed you can really bring out its potential and customize the living hell out of it. Without a doubt there are apps I had on my iPhone which I REALLY miss but they are coming. Android's market share is growing to fast and too big to be ignored.
Final thoughts:
Size matters - As amazing as the iPhone 4's screen is, and it is amazing, I prefer the size of the EVO. I don't think I could ever go back to using a 3.5" screen again.
IAATW - It's all about the widgets. Google Voice is great, voice to text is even better, and Google Navigation is the shiz!... But, the widgets are what I love the most. All my most used apps right there on my home screen without having to exit one app, enter another, exit that one... rinse, wash, repeat.

Excuse me?
Rofl, No brainer, make the switch.
I saw this topic and I just had to chime in because i'm a serial hater on AT&T. I've never met one person that was happy with AT&T, they liked their iphone but hated AT&T. With that being said, the only reason to go or stay with AT&T is because of the iphone. With the introduction of the EVO, the first true iphone killer imho, there is no point on being with AT&T. Their service is awful, their customer service is equally as bad, and all their phones less the iphone are crap. So whether you go with the evo or not, lose AT&T. I've been using android for about a year and have no plans to move to any other mobile os, period. Even android on AT&T is terrible because of the restrictions they put on android. How can you have an open source phone on a closed network. With all this being said, the evo is the best phone I have ever used or owned. I'm always looking for the next big thing, I have no intentions of changing phones until my contract is up, or I get a dual core for free, which isn't likely to ever happen. Make the switch lose AT&T and have fun enjoying your awesome coverage, and faster data speeds. I will say however sprint customer service is two-faced. They smile at you and tell you they appreciate you but really are sticking it to you, and they nickel and dime you. However, I get what I need from them with too much hassle. Still worth the switch from Verizon in my case, definitely worth the switch from AT&T. Thanks for lettin me rant. Enjoy your Evo.

With iPhone 4/iOS 4.x, I still think the iPhone has the upper hand but only by a little. But you're definitely right, to get the EVO to that very competitive level, you really have to tweak it. Ever since getting the EVO I've spent WAAAAYYYYY too much time and energy on the it. With the iPhone 4, I was satisfied the minute I turned it on. That's why I can't wait for Gingerbread and hope that it discourages OEMs from messing with Android. I have a really good feeling that stock Gingerbread will finally surpass iOS.

It. Is. Hideous. The poor poor phone has been continually hobbled. First the went to OMAP, ****ty GPU, then they stayed with no SDcard and only 16gb, then 5mp camera, then they jammed in a giant LTE radio on top of the CDMA version usually being larger. Sure, it's probably got a bigger battery, but, that's to make up for the battery-thirsty LTE....and this phone should have been out like 2 or 3 months ago and Verizon still hasn't dropped a date. But nobody cares....and now it's fat and ugly?
Yeah, I changed my screen density to 160 and can totally live with that for now, lol. The only thing extra you are getting are the earliest updates from Google....oh yeah, and expensive tiered data. If Sprint keeps slowly improving it's data speeds (as I have experienced slowly over the past month) Verizon ceases to have any advantages....especially once we get our GNexus, which my Sprint rep said should be around May. (grain of salt, YMMV, etc etc etc).

Agreed. Have a high end "super phone" model, a low end "economy" model and a mid-range model that is the "super phone" from 6 months ago. Cycle downward so the low-end has variety too eventually.
Really? You all can tell from a poorly-lit, low-res shot of the side and back that this phone is "hideous?" Really?

It looks almost twice as thick, though I'm sure it's not that bad. At least 50% thicker. No curve? And it looks slightly more squared and has a big lump. Square it up a bit more, make it a tad thicker and put the bump at the other side and we've got a DroidX.
I'm pretty spoiled by this ET4G I guess. 720p and NFC (and a number of nominal downgrades) just doesn't have the allure anymore, especially with that shape.
I really want to own a Nexus device though. N1 was legendary and will have ICS before we do (does have?), same for the NS/4G. The only phone faster and smoother in operation I have ever used is the ET4G, by a hair.
Once we get a good solid AOSP kernel we're in the game and that won't matter and I guess I'll hold out for the next Nexus device on Sprint. *sigh*
The curve is still there, but since the phone is thicker it's less obvious. That's all. Chill, people. LTE required it to be thicker. Period. Is this seriously that big of a deal? Would you rather them have skipped LTE to make it slightly thinner so it can be slightly prettier? How often, really, is ANYONE going to look at their phone from this angle? The first day, and maybe a few times when they're showing it off to friends while the phone is still exciting and new. And then never again.

Honestly, no...this hasn't changed my mind. I'm still not going to get it, but, that's for a number of other reasons. First and foremost being that Sprint's service has been steadily picking up for the past month and promises to pick up a lot more over the next 6 months based on planned tower upgrades. But my second--a very close second--reason is unlimited data wins. Even if it's not as fast. 2gb of data (or 4gb if they still have that promotion going on whenever this phone comes out at some fictional date in the future) over LTE (that I have seen tested in my area at between 15-30mbps reliably) could suck down 2-4gb of data in...well....between 10 and 50 minutes of full-throttle downloading depending on the promo you get and the speed you get....
Yeah, I'm all set with that trap.
The phone is .5mm thicker and the curve and thickness look off due to the color. If the other one was black it'd look nearly identical. .5mm is very small.

No one said it would be "huge" even though it does look noticeably bigger. Just stating the differences that i for one am not satisfied with.
Instead of metal bezel, it'll just be mat/black. I honestly think it's going to be built like the Epic touch. PLASTIC.
Sent from the future.
Those differences are minimal at best. People are reaching hard with this one.
To be honest, the only feature I really wanted from the Galaxy Nexus was the 720p HD screen.
However, even though the Samsung Galaxy S II only has a WVGA diplay, the Super AMOLED Plus makes up for it (by a lot compared to other WVGA displays) and aI dont think I'm going to miss out on HD resolution that much until my next upgrade.
I think once we get ICS on our E4GT none of us should really care about the GN.
Would anyone on Sprint really care about the GN if it was being released with Gingerbread? Minus the screen, it would almost seem like a downgrade.
What we should be looking forward to is quad core phones. Now that will be a true upgrade...

For those of you who often wonder about the implications of using the Verizon PRL and struggle with poor Sprint service, here is a little story.
I finally got my warning letter after using 0001 for about 4 or 5 months. What surprised me is that I also got a courteous call in which a Sprint rep reminded me of Sprint's roaming policies.
I kindly pointed out that I barely have any data or voice service at my home, which is essentially true. The rep verified my claim, and actually offered me a contract termination without fees as an OPTION. I took the offer, and I am now an ATT SGSII owner. I have full service at my home, and often see dl speeds of 4-8 mbps in my general area on their HSPA+ network.
And so in the end, if you are a Sprint customer struggling with poor service...I really have to recommend using 0001.

I get about 20-25 Mbps up and down with my wifi. And the ping is something like 30ms.
Can your ATT beat that?
I use 1115 so I'll roam when I need it. I don't think I'd last long on a tiered plan without getting dinged with $500 bill sometime. Especially since ATT likes to encourage you to consume data more than usual. Its not like im downloading ROMs or watching movies when I'm out and about.
They could have sent you a airave, problem solved.

this is a stupid response because 1) he obviously doesn't care about how fast his data speed is INSIDE his house where he is most likely using his computer connected to broadband internet anyways; 2) any idiot could've assumed he cares more about data speeds when he's out and about with friends; 3) even if he didn't have broadband internet at home and was tethering his phone data, then all the MORE reason to use ATT instead of Sprint.

How do you like the AT&T SGS2 compared to the E4GT? I switched to AT&T because of their data speeds and am trying out the iPhone 4S right now, still have 2 weeks to decide which phone I want to go with. I might just keep this thing and buy a used SGS2 off craigslist and switch between the two depending on mood.

Its fine, a lateral move really. I miss the notification light though. The slightly smaller screen is a toss up. Word has it that ICS will be hitting the ATT SGSII Q1 2012. How do you like the Iphone right now? I almost thought of getting it, but the SGSII is such an awesome device.
Aside from a couple minor (and one MAJOR) complaints, I like it quite a bit. I really thought I was going to hate it, my original intention was to only keep it for a couple weeks and then swap it out for an SGS2 but it has really grown on me. My only real complaint is about Siri. It sucks. I used to use voice commands all the time on android and I feel like that ability is all but lost. Aside from that, I really like the simplicity of iOS, games on it are bad ass (save for the small screen), and the phone itself is beautifully designed and built.

For some things. While the games on iOS are FAR superior to those on Android, playing them on such a tiny screen sucks, to be frank. I'll play MC3 on this thing and then play it on my E4GT and it does make me question what the hell I'm doing by switching phones. Internet browsing too just isn't the same. That said, it is nice to not have to do any type of finger acrobatics to reach every corner of the screen. And everything else is great. I thought texting was going to be a problem too but it isn't, the iOS keyboard I'm sorry to say is FAR better than any keyboard I've tried on Android. It's fast and accurate and the autocorrect isn't nearly as bad (or as funny) as all the screencaps floating around would lead us to believe.

I think I might be off to the gnex I can't take the bad battery on cm9 anymore and JB and pretty much once LTE is available I'm only buying nexus devices from here on out. Tired of samsung and htc crap skins and waiting for everything. Much thanks to all the devs I just feel bad they have to work so hard to make these phones how they should of been in the first place.
Anyway the loss of 4g is the only issue, I really don't use it much but once in a while I'm somewhere and 4g really makes tether my laptop or table better. Not that I get really good 4g but 1-2mbps beats sprints 200k speeds. And to make it worse my gf nexus s always gets better 4g and 3g alot higher speeds. I think the epic never had a good radio, the only modem it worked well with was EL29.

When and if that happens it will be dealt with. I'm about sick of these android and **** is ending post. Yes there is a patent war going on. Its not just apple........sorry just puked..that's participating in it. I would hope that Samsung...who makes a majority of the chips and screens for apple....damn it got sick again...would figure out a way to retaliate at apple in a way that would make them reconsider their actions if it came to that. I know if it was my company. I wouldn't be selling them a damn thing since they make more from the sgs3 sales alone then they do from all of apples purchases

Samsung does and is retaliating. Samsung is suing apple in multiple foreign countries. Also you ever wonder why iPhones aren't 4g capable? Because Samsung is the patent holder of about 90% of the technology. Going to be kind of hard to stay in the cell business that is evolving to 4g and you can't get any of it.

take ti from me, I had the GNEX and development isn't worth the bad battery life and under powered hardware... I just traded my GNEX for an LTEVO (development on it sucks but battery and hardware are better). The screen on GNEX while it is 720p has a purple tint to it and can look grainy. If I were you I would go with the GS3 they already have cm10 preview buids and apear to be team douche phone of choice right now... it's a win win

I had the Sprint Galaxy Nexus and it was easily the best Sprint phone I have used. I had it on Stock rom with auto brightness off and would get 15-19 hours of use with 3 hours of screen on time so I wouldn't say the battery is bad at all. I sold it because someone made me a good offer I couldn't refuse. I ended up buying a Evo 4g LTE after and multitasking sucked, phone needed daily reboot so I sold it and am back on a Galaxy S2 until I can get a S3. The Evo 4g LTE had the best battery life that I have experienced with a smartphone 20 hours of use with about 5 hours of screen on time.
I love how powerful the Galaxy S3 is so I am very interested in getting it and then will only know how it compares to the Nexus.
This right here keeps me from going to any LTE phone since it won't be in my area anytime soon

I bought the E4GT because it was the best all around phone out at the time on Sprint and it still is due to the lack of LTE. My next phone will almost certainly be on a different network. Its not the phone its the carrier. I still have about a year on Sprint though and I cant imagine 'upgrading" to a phone that runs on vaporware and Sprint 3g during that time. At least wimax is fast when I can get a good signal. Home and work are both good but there are a few random spots around the city that are terrible.
I would prob consider the SGS3 but at this rate I'm waiting for the next devices with the 800Mhz support for LTE. I wonder who will make the next Nexus phone model? I didn't like the latest Nexus. It seemed to get very hot near the camera for no reason.
I just called AT&T and gave them hell about the lack of progress on the Marshmallow update. Asked how much it would cost to close my account. Miraculously; I was forwarded to a tech support person with an IQ just North of a bedroom slipper. She forced the update to my phone. I'm past the download and my apps are optimizing. Incredible! Before I post, I'm going to wait to be sure, but it looks like I'm getting the Big M! 8 more apps to go! 1 more. Holding breath. BS! Don't know what it actually did, but still on 5.11. Time for the big guns. Stay tuned.
Just north of a bedroom slipper. Thats hilarious.
??????
Big News! AT&T Are Liars!
I called back and spoke to another Golgi apparatus who denied that they ever said that. My, how his toned changed when I started playing back the conversation from Total Recall. He proceeded to tell me that I could pay an ETF of $350.00. I told him that based on the recorded lies that they told me; I DARED them to try to collect. Never mind - just more AT&T BS. {Sigh!}
Sorry. "Just North of a bedroom slipper" and "Golgi apparatus" were complements for these oxygen thieves. Maggots is placing them in high regard. AT&T customer since 1985, and this is how I'm treated? I'm dropping them like a used rubber. Don't have any better "smoking gun" solutions since I travel internationally a good bit; but, I'll cut off my nose to spite AT&T at this point. (Extremely foul language omitted)
Sometimes I think to my self, how fun would of been if this device would of been root able? Big-time developers would be on this specific forum. Idk but lately I've been complementing on wether to give att another chance or split to tmobile
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA-Developers mobile app
Sorry that happened, it's the worst when you get your hopes up only to have them dashed.
Highly unlikely that att would push out an update to a single user, some of us have been trying to get beta releases for years. Unfortunately, we just have to wait.
So help me; she SWORE that they were already rolling it out (another lie), but I wasn't in the queue yet, and I'd be receiving it soon. She was such a polished liar that it takes my breath away. Then, she gave me the schmoozing touch by saying "Well, you're such a valued customer that I'm going to go ahead and push it to your phone." Eloquent liar. She said "Look at the top of your screen and tell me what you see?" I saw the diagonal arrows that only mean one thing. I was ecstatic! I told her: " I can't believe you were able to do it that fast!" She poured it on even thicker by saying "Now, wait with me for a little bit to make sure it goes through." Sucker!!! I waited until it had gotten to the 100% point and was prompted by the phone to end my call to finish the update. I thanked her profusely, and hung up.
I'm sure they were slapping their knees after I got off the phone with them. The phone went through the expected gyrations with the progress bar, optimizing apps, rebooting, etc. When it finished recycling; there was the all too familiar screen again. My heart was beating like a rabbits. I went to the phone info, and sure enough... Still Lollipop! SUCKER! I felt like Curly from The Three Stooges after Moe just double poked him in the eyes.
Now; I'm pissed. But, being the weekend, I realize that the only person to answer their phone is Hajji over in India, so that's a waste of time. So; my choices are: Stay with AT&T and continue to have nearly seamless international roaming, or cut my throat and go with Verizon - just to match my domestic coverage - (Same high price, same obstinance, but little to no international coverage, same hardware restrictions), or go with a lone wolf like T-Mobile - or worse - Sprint.
Deflated.
stay with At&t but never buy phones from them. nexus is the way to go my friend.
OP, I honestly cannot tell if you are for real.
Oh; trust me; I'm real. And, everything - virtually everything happened exactly the way I said it. It would be hard to make that one up.
As for the Nexus; I've considered that. Perhaps my timing's been bad, but I'm a little underwhelmed by the Nexus phones that I've seen. Especially without Mini-SD cards. It seems like there's always some stranglehold. I've been a Sammy fan for about 4 years now. The previous one was the Note 3 that I purchased outright from AT&T. Root eventually made it's way to it, but I jumped when the Note 5 came out without the SD card slot, and no removable battery. I panicked and snatched up the Note 4. Big mistake.
I wish there was a way to purchase an unlocked, unbranded Samsung Note that would work seamlessly on AT&T, allow updates without the bloat, and let me do what I wanted to do with what I bought. It defies logic.

Likely has no warranty I the states, and difficult to get, many are sold as 910f but are 910a with a system mod applied via odin to make it look like an 910f...
OK, I'll bite. You really didn't know that the ATT associates don't know when any update will occur? You really wasted all this time and energy and anger over this? That is why I smell a troll; everyone knows this, and it has been reiterated a thousand times. The fact is they simply do not know.
Think what you want. I'm not trying to impress you or anyone else. I'm venting my frustration and experience.
Now; if she'd told me that the update would hit at a certain time; I'd have taken it with a grain of salt. But, the way she schmoozed me; I bought hook, line, and sinker. Not to mention all of the speculation on this board that the update was immanent; I thought I'd hit the goldmine. That's what pisses me off. I'll be more than happy to post the recording (~10MB) of the 47 minute conversation - if you have the time to waste listening to it.
And, no; I'm not going to roll the dice on an international - or any other illegitimate phone - in the hopes that I can get what I paid for. That's just another frustration. It would be like buying a fancy Dell computer with a 3TB HD, but they installed 1.5TB of bloatware on the drive and if you took it off; your computer would crash.
OK, I'm done.
I have been an AT&T customer since 96. My first smartphone was the Sony x10a, loved it. Then I saw an ad in a magazine for the ion lt28at. I knew 6 months before the 6 AT&T employees(1 per month) that AT&T was getting it. I "chat" with AT&T about every 2 weeks to see if there's any info when updates are supposed to be released. Occasionally one will act like they have the inside scoop, usually, like with the ion, they're as clueless as we are. I fallen victim to false hope, I'm sure many of us have. Yes, AT&T sucks when it comes to updates and bloat, but I will tell you this, every single time I've had an issue they've done everything they can to make me happy. To me that goes a long way towards keeping my brand loyalty. AT&T is a pretty solid company and would have to do something much worse than delaying updates to lose my business.

yes they can push updates to individual devices, because i called as asked to have that done with the latest security patch, and the person asked me for my IMEI and told me it would take a couple of hours, sure enough within that time I had the notification for the security update.

I agree. I have a contract that was supposed to allow me to upgrade phones every two years. I went in and was told that they don't do upgrades anymore even if it is in your contract. Which means I have to pay that price on my bill and not get the benefit of it. They very eagerly offered to take that off my bill but it would kill my unlimited data. Why in the hell would I buy a phone from them if I can get one that is not locked down for the same price?

Looks like another security update. I guess this means MM is a ways off.

It's a dead topic in my opinion. We all know that AT&T's customer service is horrible and will tell you anything. What I found so insulting was the level of deceit that they went to convince me that I was going to get the update. Shouldn't be surprised. That's why I record theirs and a few other companies phone calls to confront them when they don't live up to what was promised. I still find it incredible!
So; I'm stuck with AT&T, or another carrier that's as bad or worse. It's a shame. I used to be able to count on AT&T as fulfilling their promises. My experience over the past couple of years is that you roll the dice, and HOPE you get what was promised. I suppose that's the only option. Their management could care less.
I'm done with this topic. Feel free to rant - which was my purpose - it seems to have no effect on them. They know your options are limited.

Why wont you go buy a T-mobile phone and unlock the sim for use on at&t. Get your root, custom roms, updates.... i have a t-mobile Samsung s5 also Note 4 and finally Note Edge, all rooted and custom roms. All working on AT&T straight talk network. I can update to custom MM right now if i wished.
