[Q] Epic 4G Touch not booting after rom update - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I currently have blaster rom flashed on my phone. it was working well for a while with the occasional soft reboots. i decided to update it with the flash over v3.8 zip file. i followed the instructions exactly. i ran the modified calkulin .zip then i ran the update. but now the phone is stuck at the boot screen and will not function if i remove the batter to reboot i cannot get into recovery. im at a loss as to what to try now

I as well have this same problem. Basically I've reverted to downloading the latest EL29 Download from the wikia, then re-rooting the device using the auto root without Odin.
Then, and only then can you flash a rom, but only once then you will have to repeat this process
P.S. MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP INCASE THIS DOESNT WORK.

hope this helps http://youtu.be/_vmEmheJnyg

Md5 checker plp. Its free. Use it love it. Bad download.Or give it some time first boot can take upto around 6to8 min. Be patient it pays off.

ok finally was able to fix it. the youtube video was perfect and super easy to follow and odin only took a 3 minutes to fix the issue. i wish i knew exactly what i did wrong though.

Congrats OP. Way to go. prolly a bad dwnld. Md5checker babby. Give it a try. You might be surprised at how often roms get fukt when downloading. Also I do all my downloading from my phone. So dont believe the hype about only use your comp for ROM dwnlds. I have only had two bad dwnlds from my phone, way more from my comp.

please help - clockworkmod backup rom problem

ok so, i just rooted my phone and that went fine. did it with the stock rom, but after I did that I installed clockwork mod. well, i tried to do a back up of the current rom and when it rebooted it crashed. now it comes up to the android system recovery screen but it won't let me select anything...... can anyone help?!?!?
i am freaking out here... did i brick my phone?!?!?! anyone????
I don't know why you're having a problem or what caused it but you certainly didn't brick your phone. You can always flash a new ROM in clockwork or use odin to flash the stock .tar.
edit: missed the part about not being able to select anything in recovery. All is not lost, just flash the stock EG31 .tar with odin and you'll be fine. You're gonna have to reroot and set everything back up again (I've done it twice today) but at least you will still have a phone. Try just flashing the kernel first, maybe you can get it to boot without losing anything.
everytime i reboot the phone it just comes back to this android system recovery screen. it's blule, at the bottom is says manual mode. and something sucsessfull but, it won't let me selelect any of the options and it keeps booting to this screen... where can i download odin? i keep seeing stuff about that, i guess i need to flash to a rom or something....
edit: cool, yeah.. can you show me where to download what your talking about??
thank you!!

E:/ Can't mount /emmc - Possible Brick?

Well...long story short, I flashed ICS but I got locked out so I had to Nandroid back to my original ROM, but some error happened and now my phone won't turn on and I can't access my internal SD card. Using Rogue Recovery, when I try to Restore, my internal SD card isn't detected and I get E:/ Can't mount /emmc. Any way to fix this? Or am I bricked? Please help ASAP
I think my entire internal SD has been fried... If anyone has information, please tell me ASAP
I would start by seeing if you can get into download mode. Sorry if you've already tried this. Otherwise, pull the battery for 10 secs and then hold the volume down button and power key until your screen enters download mode. If that works, you can then Odin back to whatever you want.
I got into Odin, but I'm not really sure what to do with it. I'm not experienced with Odin. Should I push a Kernel? a ROM? My phone won't turn on regularly so a ROM would be pointless
Read along with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274337
If I tried to explain it, I'd for sure leave something out and you'd really be bricked. It sounds like you're phone is fine. It sounds like you just need to download a stock ROM .tar and flash it via Odin, then re-root, etc. Good luck.
Thanks. I pushed a kernel through but I'm hesitant to take the step for flashing a whole ROM. Also, by stock, do you mean a stock rooted ROM or a blank stock ROM?
in recovery, try to mount the SD card and connect it to your computer. See if it shows up in the computer and if your files are there and you can access it.
If you follow the steps in that guide, you'll be fine. I've done it a bunch of times. I keep a couple of stock ROM .tars on my laptop in case I screw something up while flashing. If I can do it, anyone can.

It won't let me. I think my internal memory is fried. But if I can get my phone working again, I don't care about the internal memoru
I'm on my way to bed. But, I can tell you that some of the vets around here have said time after time that if you're able to get into download mode, chances are your phone will be fine if you know how to Odin back to stock. Good luck to you.

It's fine. Mine was doing the same thing with Blazer ICS.
Basically, the way ICS handles USB mount is absurd. Makes no sense.
You have to flash clockworkmod touch from a zip file.
Just follow Phantoms steps exactly, only what's in bold:
To recover recovery:
Thru Odin:
Boot into Download Mode
Open ODIN
Download and Put this in PDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390393
Flash
Thru Recovery:
Temp CWM How-To (Thanks to overstew for the concept)
1. Download CWM Touch 5.8.1.5 for Epic 4G Touch
http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
2. Reboot into Stock Recovery
3. "apply update from external storage"
4. Find CWM T ouch 5.8.1.5 zip file and flash it
5. Using Touch Recovery flash ICS-4-ICS v1.0 (FOR THE ICS THEME ONLY)
6. Reboot and enjoy.
Thank you very much, rde. I'm currently flashing sfhub's factory reset from Odin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383678)
I pray that my phone is okay, lol.

We've actually found 2 cases where this isn't true:
1) if you flash the intl ICS release (which includes the intl bootloader) This seems to disable the USB port even though you can boot into ODIN D/L mode
2) some process people were doing early on when the FB02 release first came out (not saying it is the FB09 release causing issues, just some unidentified process people were doing at that time) seems to hoars the /data partition and even ODIN repartition doesn't help. I don't want to point fingers but there seemed to be pattern of CWM Touch being involved doing restores, but that was not scientifically proven.

Got it around a month ago and didn't get insurance... is it possible to suddenly add insurance and go next week to get it replaced? Or do I need to bring the phone in?

Has my phone bitten the dust?

Really hope somebody can help.
I have had a galaxy note 2 for about 6 months on Vodafone UK N7100.
Today while i was at work i felt something hot in my pocket, my phone was very hot (i was not doing anything with it) The phone was stuck on the Samsung boot screen.
After a few minutes of looking at this i realised it was stuck and removed the battery. SInce then i have been unable to get past the boot screen, i can't get into download mode or reboot mode. The only things to note. When i turn my phone on a red light flashes. When i plug my charger in the charge icon appears on screen but it does not charge.
Really hoping somebody can help.
I had rooted my phone if that helps (it did not cause this problem and has been functioning rooted for months)
Update
Just managed to get to a screen which warned me about installing custom software and did i want to continue. I said yes and it is now downloading something
How did you get to that screen?

this would be your last hope http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32273406&postcount=5 follow the guide properly marked in red and remember to tick re partition in odin, if this doesnt work then your phone has been affected by sds due to 4.1.1 rom so u need to take it to service for motherboard replacement which is borne by samsung so no worries, and remember never to use a 4.1.1 rom in note 2 get the 4.1.2 rom or rather they will install that only this time and in future just go through dr.ketan thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696 here it will guide you perfect instead following some untidy guides

I did not manage to install the rom i suggested i was using so i don't think that could have been the issue. well your reply is quite confusing
1.did you manage to flash the rom with pit in odin. was it successful or you get any errors
2.does your phone start now
3.if not then your phone has died and it needs to be taken to service guys ,but just check what the status of your phone in download mode is it official or custom . if its official then no worries just go ahead and take it to service guys and tell them abt your issue that the phone stopped working while in pocket dont info them that you rooted it ever just make them blv that it was a sds caused by 4.1.1 rom so they replace it free.
i mean your motherboard
Sorry if i am confusing matters.
I did not manage to flash anything it was just coming up with failed no PIT partition.
Current binary samsung official
My system status is custom
Are these ok to return my phone with?
I decided to take the advice offered and download the recovery but got confused.
Do i need all of the files from that link or just 1?
I downloaded the first one N7100XXDMB2_Factory
It contained
boot
cache
hidden
modem.bin
recovery
sboot.bin
system
tz
None of these are the md5 format
i am now thinking i should have downloaded XXDLJ2_OXA_Factory
Is that correct or was i right with the first file. If i was right downloading the first file then where do i get the md5 files required for odin to do my factory restore.
Know these are very noobish questions just doint want to do anything wrong
In answers to your questions....
1) Did i manage to flash the rom with it in odin
No
I got confused which files i should be using and did not want to do anything without being sure
2) My phone does not start
3) When i am in download mode my phone shows
Current binary Samsung official
My system status is custom

If your phone doesn't have a partition map, then no, you can't.
You can try, as a last resort, using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43760271&postcount=22
I had a similar problem not too long ago (although it started with all apps crashing and then stuck at bootscreen) and managed to fix my phone.

EFS is a part of the system that stores your serial number, IMEI and everything related to your phone specifically. You are generally able to back it up using a custom recovery or using software on your PC while the phone is rooted and booted on the android OS. Since you cannot boot into recovery and also can't boot into android itself, I don't think you would be able to back it up.
If you ever installed a custom rom with AROMA, there is a chance you have it backed up already. But if you don't explicitly remember...

[Q] Desperate need of help!!!

I know there are a lot of other threads regarding looping issues, but are still able to get into recovery. I've spent hours trying everything I have come across that might seem to work and nothing has. Does anyone know of a way to use Odin from a PC to fix this issue?? I attached a screen shot of the files so far that I have tried using through Odin on my computer and a couple others. I'm very desperate at this point for any advice!! Thanks...

have you updated to the kitkat bootloader. if you have and try to use the cf root made for our device the recovery is no longer usable. google search cf auto root for n9005 kitkat. that one works though it will install the recovery for the n9005 but is functional other than that i would say go to sammobile.com and make an account (free) then download wich ever version you had running wether it be 4.3 or 4.4 then use 7zip and extract the recover.img then flash that using odin.....

I used the ROM Installer app and downloaded the Pac-Man Rom + Gapps, booted into recovery (using twrp.) I then wiped the data, cache, dalvik, and then tried installing the zip files i had downloaded. It would at first just reboot my phone normally and so I downloaded the a aokp Rom off the internet and onto my flash drive, then used a cable to attach both the phone and drive and tried installing the Aokp ROM. That then put my into a loop, I was able to get out of it by using Odin and flashing the openrecoverytwrp.2.6.3.0.img which got me booting back to normal. Sooo I then tried again and then lost the option of getting into recovery.
Their ROM is 4.4. What boot loader do you have. Did you update to kit Kat?

Sooo I then tried again and then lost the option of getting into recovery.

OK do this go to sammiemobile get the factory stock. Flash thru Odin. Then reboot make sure it stock. Download to your PC the ROM you want. Cf auto root and the recovery you like for kit Kat. Don't use any app to download anything. Once you set. Then do the cfautoroot. Let that cycle. Then flash recovery thru Odin. Then reboot. Then power down and reboot into recovery . it works .good. Boot up then add ROM to SD reboot recovery and flash. Done.
Factory wipe before going stock.

Make sure you use the proper cf auto root and cwm or twrp

You don't keep holding those buttons when the red and blue and yellow words pop up do you? Our phone allows us to hold the power button for about 6 seconds and it will reboot.
Let up off those buttons you're holding when trying to boot into recovery as soon as you see the blue and red and yellow writing.
The blue writing states that you're already booting Into recovery.
Tl;dr You're holding the buttons too long after it reboots. Let off them.
Eek, I just read the steps you tried to resolve this. Sorry you had to go through that. I don't think that was your issue, but I just thought I'd throw my 2cents in
BTW if this is not the case, then disregard please.

I did exactly what you said and it worked! I appreciate your help!!!!!! I just downloaded the stock firmware and my phone booted back to factory settings. I haven't rooted it yet. I have a few different cf auto root files, is this the correct one CF-Auto-Root-hlte-htlexx-smn9005.tar.md5?
Just out of curiosity, which back up do you prefer cwm or twrp?

Yeah it's all good, I got it fixed finally. I'm not exactly sure what my issue was I'm just glad it's working. I tend to try different things with my phone or phones i've had in the past without, I just wasn't careful enough to what I was doing I guess. Are you running cm ROM on your N3?

Yup that is the right cf auto root. I have flashed both recovery thru Odin. Work great both times. I used cwm up until 3 days ago. Switched because one of my friends was having issues and wanted to make sure it was not a recovery thing. Been on twrp and it good. Glad I could help you. Enjoy the greatness of this phone.

Dam it i got the same problem but i really can't boot into recovery or download mode. Anyone know how i can adb into download mode?
Edit: Figured it out... thank god.
Just a heads up. Next time to save time of a huge file download. Just download another Recovery for your device. You flashed a corrupt recovery which caused your phone to not go into recovery at all. Always ensure the model # matches yours also.

Also flashing CF-Auto Root does not help a bad recovery fix, it just roots your phone, so you flashing CF AutoRoot was of no use at that point.

The reason he got the bootloop was cause cf root does it. That is why he needed to download the cf auto root euro version.

I don't think its that. If it is their post should be in the International Note 3 9005 thread, not T-Mobiles thread, and seeing that they have been rooted before ( i know because thats the only way they could reboot to recovery with rom manager) they must have used the n900t CF AutoRoot which is correct if the person have the T-Mobile version. Reading through and seeing that they never confirmed or have been asked for their phone model, just the second post person suggesting stuff for the 9005 without questions, since he/she said they haven't rooted yet after successfully booting up from the stock flash, he/she haven't used the 9005 Auto Root as yet which I think they shouldn't as they might brick their phone. His recovery went bad after he flashed the wrong recovery to their phone.

Let's agree to disagree. But if you check chainfires tweet he even said to use the cf euro version because it plays right with the TMOBILE. I have helped may bootloopers with just changing the root method. Just ask the op. He tried just the recovery with bootloops. And it was the right one cause he used the one I used.

[Q] TWRP & No Os On my Samsung Galaxy S3 HELP!

I have Samsung At&T Galaxy S3. I bought it used and it worked fine for days until I dropped it and cracked the screen, However it still worked fine until it died. I plugged it in and went to turn it on and it took me to the Team Win recovery. When I try to go to recovery and then reboot it tells me there is no os installed and asks me if I want to install Super SU. If I go to install it takes me to the Odin downloading mode but that is it. Phone is Bricked and stays at the S III screen. HELP is there any hope for me!? I also tried to follow a forum that instructed the rooting of the phone using ODIN. I tried to use the link but couldn't and then I tried Chain fires way but still after 4 hours NO luck, could be me but I am as "Noob" as they come with this apparently. Can someone please help me!?
What ROM was the phone running before it was dropped? You could copy a custom ROM to a micro SD card and try flashing it from recovery.
Don't worry, your phone is not bricked.
Well, if it happened out of the blue like that, there is a possibility of a hardware problem.
Do as audit13 said and flash a ROM via recovery, preferably the same as what was on it before.

I was running I believe the Jelly Bean 4.3...SO I bought the phone from a person. They did not mention it having TWRP or anything else. It I think had something called Super SU too...not sure what that is. I have tried to flash in ODIN. nothing. I have also tried to flash a rom using an SD card it was the kit kat 4.4.4 but it says failed each time. I don't know what to do...

So I bought the phone from another person who failed to mention anything not stock about the phone! It came with I believe the jellybean 4.3 and something like super su. What is super SU? I have tried to flash the kit kat 4.4.4 to the phone with an sd card but it always says failed...I don't understand! I have been going out of my mind and reading and trying a but nothing is working!
SuperSU is part of your root access. Its an app that helps to manage root access from your other apps.
When the flash fails does it give you an error message? Try flashing again, but after it fails do not reboot. Go back to the Advanced menu and choose copy log to SD. Then attach the recovery.log here.

Yes I get an error message. Ok so I suppose I am still trying to grasp at the entire concept of all of this! So let me start here: I bought the phone as I said and it seemed fine. It didn't however have all the normal Google apps etc. and I wasn't sure why. 2 days later after purchase I dropped the phone. Screen cracked but for the rest of the day it worked fine. It died, I plugged it in at home and when I tried to turn it on it went straight to TWRP. I messed with the phone in recovery NOT understanding what I was doing and I think I may have wiped/deleted the Super SU off my phone, I don't know if it is rooted or anything anymore if it was rooted in the first place. I believe it was running Jellybean before this mess and since then I have tried to do multiple things to it including installing a ROM on an SD with gapps and flashing in TWRP but always get an error message. I did just try installing UPDATE-SuperSu back onto the flashing using an Sd and that installed but still couldn't flash a rom. I still cannot get past the Samsung S III screen and still the phone says no OS. So I suppose is there a way to start from scratch so...someone that can walk me through this. I am dying and DON'T want to spend the money the Phone stores want to fix my phone! I don't have a carrier like Sprint etc. I was using the phone with a sim card for straight talk. Please if I can try this I will! Thanks again for all your help...
Try flashing the MJB firmware via Odin on your computer. That should restore your device to fully working stock, provided there isnt a hardware problem.
Factory reset in recovery, then reboot download mode. Plug into your computer and run Odin v3.09. Click the AP button and select the firmware you downloaded. Should be a .tar.md5 file. Then click start.
You can get odin from my sig if needed.

So, I tried to do what you said but when I extract the files there is no tar md5 file, if I don't extract I can't see any of the MJB firmware. I don't know what I doing wrong...
Highlight/select all of the files at once. Then right click and extract. It should combine them all into the one.
If you're still having trouble with it, I'll try to do it for you. Been meaning to do this anyway to make things a little easier for folks. But it'll probably be at least Sunday night or Monday before I can do anything. (Funeral/family stuff has me tied up all weekend).

So I have tried SO many things now I can't even remember. I have tried flashing roms via SD card, I have tried to re-root the phone by flashing Super SU from an SD card no luck...I have tried to factory reset using the instructions you posted but upon extracting there is no tar md5 file. lots of others but not that one. My download screen says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH I747
CUSTOM BINARY DOWLOAD: YES (2 COUNTS)
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
SYSTEM STATUS: CUSTOM
QUAULCOM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
WARRANTY BIT: 1
BOOTLOADER RP SWREV: 2
When I try to reboot my phone in TWRP it says, "NO OS" installed are you sure you wish to continue.
I will slide the deal towards yes/reboot and then it will say, "Your phone is not rooted do you wish to install Super SU" I will slide to install and it will go to download mode and look like the above. That's it. No successful flashing via SD or Odin...I am pooped. By the way I appreciate your time, and I am so sorry for your loss.
Still No Luck

I don't know what happened but I thought I had responded to this, I know its late but please accept my deepest condolences.
As for my phone I have tried EVERTHING I can think of, everything you have suggested as well and nothing is working. I Can download ODIN, I can download files and Md5. tar files but it always says failed...I don't know what to do or anything. I have been working on this for almost 2 months now. I need help, there is no cell phone repair here that can flash software except ONE company and they have a bad reputation...I want to start from scratch here because I am So turned around. I have tried so much I am just confused...If you can help me at all, step by step perhaps then I could get you the answers you need to help me. Really thank you for the time you have already given me.
I suggest using CWM to flash anything. I had issues with TWRP and Philz Touch worked perfectly. I have recommended it to other that had no OS on their phone and they were able to get their phone up and running on a custom ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55897607&postcount=2
I apologize for not responding before. Been hard to keep up with everything lately.
Try as audit13 suggested and flash cwm or philz recovery with Odin. Then reboot recovery and flash a rom. Hopefully one of those will work where twrp failed.
