Chrome not launching apps - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Anyone else notice the new Chrome Beta not launching apps when appropriate links on clicked? For instance, clicking a Map or Market link in search results used to give you the choice to launch the corresponding app or open in the browser. For me, Chrome doesn't give that option.

It is in beta, expect things to not work. leave your comment on the market.
Actually why not in the original thread?

Welcome to the world of BETA testing.

Does this mean you're experiencing the same limitation? Want to make sure it isn't something I can fix on my end, and I'm not one to post bugs in reviews without confirming others are experiencing same problems.

Actually don't leave your comment in the market. go to settings then Leave feedback. That's the right way to help out.

Marketplace

I don't get it.
If I use the Android XDA app, the Marketplace is visible in General. Using a real browser however, it's not. A quick search for a link into the Marketplace rears a permissions error. And all of this without being registered. So what gives? Something I'm missing here?

Oh, so it's now visible. After glancing through the rules/disclaimer it appears it'll become accessible after 8 posts for a noobjuice member. Clever.

You need more posts and/or a longer membership (I can't recall the details).
Guess the Tapatalk app needs fixing .

It's not the app...we've changed the permission on the Marketplace to not allow access to a user until he/she has made 8 posts. That 8 post level is also the same point at which you can post links. It's just an anti-spam measure. We found people were registering at XDA just to spam the site or the Marketplace. This helps.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
This is good to know. Long time lurker and finally signed up so I could post in the marketplace but alas!
Can someone link to the rules for gaining access to the Marketplace? I have 8 posts but still cannot see it. Tried logging out and back in but still nothing
For a while there I thought I needed to check my eye sight. Makes sense now.
Hard to achieve 8 post if you have nothing to say or to discuss or if everything is so well explained that you do not need answers
Maybe you could add a waiting time also. Lets say after 4 weeks you get to see the market, I highly doubt anyone would wait 4 weeks just to spam something.
It doesn't make sense that you can view the Marketplace before you sign up (and then have it dissapear after you are a member).
oh!! so thats why i couldnt c the marketplace
I am new here. it seem that this is an useful forum.
welcome to forums
Once you become an active/regula user all XDA features will be unlocked and you will be able to post in marketplace, this rule is to protect us from spammers/scammers
Ah I was wondering why I wasn't able to see that deal I saw anymore... guess I'm off to ask more questions.
I have been on the site reading for 6 months now trying not to poste but now i need to use the market so here is my 8th poste thanks.

Lol. Non-members can't see the marketplace anymore.
Trust me to say too much
As I said before:
Once you become regular/active members will see the benefit of having this
Meantime post and you´ll finally get access
Nice
Really smart security measure! I like it.

Google Chrome app XDA-forum

Hi all,
i made a very very simple application that is just a link to xda forum for google chrome and chromium browsers.
Hope you enjoy!
Dave
Neat! What are the steps to get this to work?
not to slate your work or flame etc, i'm sure its pretty cool (without testing it). but can't that just be done like through bookmarks?
REALLY?

Is it necessary to do this? someone is trying to better this community and then sure enough somebody else comes along and wants to show them up. PLUS you did not even test it to see what it does.
Amazing the audacity some people have shame on you Mr. Greeny!
You have to use chromium or google chrome, unzip folder, then
Bring up the extensions management page by clicking the wrench icon and choosing Tools ->Extensions.
If Developer mode has a + by it, click the + to add developer information to the page. The + changes to a -, and more buttons and information appear.
Click the Load unpacked extension button. A file dialog appears.
In the file dialog, navigate to your extension's folder and click OK.
Hope you'll like it!
newer version
I've made a .crx file extension, now it's easy to install, just open it with chromium or chrome and then click install.
Dave
I installed it, but can't see any change? Where should it be adding the link?

if you have the latest version of google chrome or chromium you should see it every time you open a new tab, just near all other google apps....
Worked for me. Nice job.
That's great! Good job!
Worked here too, nice job and thanks!
wanna try it now

"Report" option

It has come to my attention that there is no "report" option for the xda or tapatalk apps. This seems to be the option pushed by the mods as the proper way to handle issues. Why do we not have this ability outside of the actual forums?
How can we get this option integrated into an update?
Is this something wanted by the community?
If it is, either "like" or post a response saying so please.
Maybe I missed an update about this and I'm asking for no reason, if so, let me know!
Thanks,
Clay

The report feature was removed a while due to instability. As mentioned below...
NotATreoFan said:
The report function was removed from the apps on the server, so no versions can utilize it anymore. The reason for doing this is because mobile reports were causing issues with our much more reliable and robust system accessible from a browser.

The only way to report a post would be to open the post in webview and report as you would on the desktop.

Disabled open in a new tab by scroll-wheel click

I don't know why but such useful browser feature doesn't really work on XDA-Developers forums. For example I see a itneresting new on the right side widget. I middle mouse button click it, but it won't open in a new tab, but instead it will open in the current tab just like I would left click it. I can give you numbers of similiar behaviours like that over the xda. That's really annoying.
Why is that happening and are you guys ever going to fix it?

Suggest you try an alternate browser.
Also try a fresh profile in case something in your current profile is the cause.
Its not working for me can you suggest me an other way ?
Does it still work correctly on other sites?
Not a Chrome user so can't really help with it.
General troubleshooting though. Try other sites. Try a clean profile.
Try other tools with the problem site.

It does work correctly on every other website. There's no "clean profile" option in chrome and I have no idea what do you mean by "other tools".
This issue happens with particular stuff, like the widget with the news on the right side of the thread view.

Are you using the new 2015 theme? I think there were one or two links on the old style which were like that, but it should be resolved now on the new style

Just middle button pressed "XDA PORTAL POSTS" news and it still opens up on the same tab. Even on 2015 / 2015 dark theme :/
I'd actually would prefer to use the old theme either way so I could use Dark XDA Stylish theme by @GermainZ as for me it looks much better. Just a presonal preference.

I'd also would love it if you could make the new xda look an option for logged in users, just like the forums are.

We had additional google analytics code on those links, my guess is that was blocking the open in new tab option. We made this change a long time ago so this must have been long-standing.

Chrome browser on Pixel Device

Hello,
I have not found any topic regarding my question so I have just opened one.
I want to place my URL bar to the bottom of the screen on my Pixel 2XL, but I don't find the way.
I have done it once earlier in the chrome://flags menu but now there is no option for that. Has Google taken out that option or I just did not see it?
I am using normal up to date Chrome, not the beta one.

New versions no longer support it as far as I'm aware, u would need to go back as far as chrome 65 to get it to work.

I am pretty sure kiwi browser put this back into the browser.
Kiwi rom is essentially chrome (chromium) dev or canary with some fine tuning done by the developer and without having the ability to sign into the browser to sync with your google acct.
try kiwi browser, it's based on Chromium with ad blocking features, and it lets you put the url bar on the bottom in its settings

Fair enough. Chrome's beta is stable - but even so, if you have stock try looking at the options on the flags page. I know they have that option in some trial releases so if it exists, that's where you would turn it on.
Chrome beta has the duet flag that puts the buttons on the bottom and you can also swipe right-left to move between tabs.
I tried kiwi and it's sluggish and choppy especially when opening a new page from a link.
Use the beta if you want to have those features now....
