I went to go see the T-mobile version today at a store in Tacoma... AND I LOVE THE PHONE!
I'm definitely waiting until August 12th (which is the now rumored release date).
It is everything that I thought it would be.
But here are some impressions for those of you interested in the T-mobile USA version:
1. No chrome- thankfully this did not kill the sex appeal. I think that the phone is the sexiest phone I have ever seen. The look is not inferior to the International version, just different.
2. It is a speed demon! Whatever ROM it is running is even faster than the international version (from what I have seen in video reviews) and everything is very fluid.
3. The keyboard is perfect. Enough said.
4. The guy who owned the phone said that the release date is supposed to be mid-to-late August. Though I'm betting on August 12th.
5. Any questions, ask away. I'm very excited for the release of this phone.
Did T-Mo keep the second camera on this phone, is it full of bloat-ware, and lastly did they destroy any of what we love about the phones capabilities.
i have a german t-mobile vario 5 and i can say hardware is exactly the same so YES front camera is there too!
there is some software like web n walk and some other t-mobile software but its not that bloated.

I'm sorry. I was asking that question assuming the author was referring to T-Mobile USA. I know it's not out yet in US for customers, but there are some T-Mo employees that have demo versions of the phone. I thought this person was one of them.
I have the Tmo version , great phone I must say, ive had a couple of problems though

For some reason the Music player on Touchflo3d cannot read my memory card. I have an 8gb card, with around 1100 songs and it takes forever to load. After about 5 mins, it might show the songs, I click a song, it lags to play, then it plays, I try to change the track and it freezes.
Do we know yet which 3G frequencies the USA version of this phone will support? i.e. will it only work on the US networks, or be a proper 'world standard' phones that will work on all the UK 3G networks as well as the US ones?

I believe that it supports international EDGE bands.
However, it only supports T-mobile 3G. No AT&T nor European 3G I think.

I'm glad there's no chrome, personally. I plan to own the device for a long time, and with my luck the chrome would crack before I grew tired of the device. But from the one shot I've seen of it on a TmoUSA promo it's my least favorite looking of all the versions. I'd have to go digging around, but I think either the Sprint or Verizon was my favorite looking device.
Fortunately, appearances are the least important factor in my buying decision, because I'll probably end up on TMobile's network before I even get the phone.

If you don't like the looks of the phone, you can always get a gel skin. You can also order replacement exterior pieces online and just have someone take the phone apart and put the new parts on.
It is so bloody annoying that the TP2 is coming out everywhere on t mobile (in the US and mainland Europe) except in the UK. The rumour that it failed testing in the UK can't be right, as it appears to have passed testing everywhere else. Perhaps it has more to do with the fact that t mobile in the UK is being sold off and that it can't afford too many new launches of products.

Thats a good question, Try the CDMA thread and ask around for the size dimensions. They could be the same exact same or they could be different I'm not sure
Deleted, Double Post
I am pretty sure that the TMO version has a different back. The unlocked version has a different back then the TMO version and I think Verizons is the same as the unlocked. The Verizon one has a different style, but the way it connects to the phone is different. I attached a pic of the TMO and the Unbranded. Couldn't find a pic of the verizon battery cover. The bottom wraps around.
You can't put any onther back on the Tmobile one. all other versions of the TP2 have the battery cover consist of the whole back & sides, where as the Tmo version is just the back.
Yeah i know what you guys are thinking. Verizon will never get the phone blah blah blah but when the day it does come, I want it to be protected and babied. So with that said, where do I find cases for the Verizon variant? So far, it looks like the cases are made for the GSM verison only. When typing in sch515 on ebay, nothing comes up and general searches only come up with the i9250's version. A little help here guys? Or will the cases fit both versions?

A friend of mine actually bought a case and screen protectors from a local Verizon store. They are already have a stock of GN accessories, just not out in front yet
Anyone know if replacement parts are interchangeable between models? I am getting a cheap Verizon Xperia Play and would like to remove the Verizon branding but not sure if I can simply buy a new battery cover/slide out gamepad cover or not.
They are pretty cheap so I guess I could just try it out but itf someone knows for sure it would save me the trouble.
Thanks.
Yeah,
if ure talkin about the back, there the same size for both models.
Yeah, I just do not know about motherboard.
Thanks guys. I really am only curious about the back and the gray plastic surrounding the buttons since those are the parts that have the carrier branding. Since I bought the phone simply for emulators and maybe some Play Store games and don't even use Verizon I kind of want to make it look like it isn't carrier branded. I would have bought an ATT version or international version but they are more expensive for obvious reasons.
Hey guys, long time lurker here, love this forum. I have a question to which I can't seem to get a definitive answer to, figured this would be the place to find the answer I'm looking for. I just purchased a second hand T989D really cheap. The housing is really beat up, so I figured I would buy a new housing (front, back and battery cover). I looked everywhere, but could only find replacement housing for T989 model (T-Mobile version). Are there any differences between the two models (aside from holding volume rocker during boot)???
Thx
To my knowledge, the hardware (incl. housing) is identical. I have a T989D, but haven't actually seen or held a T989 yet. I'm sure it would be much easier to find parts that will be labelled as being for the T-Mobile version - Telus and Koodo just don't have the client base to make a difference. I would expect that anything sold for a T989 would work on the T989D. Would Samsung ever consider making a phone that was only for the Canadian market?? Population-wise, we're just another state...almost as big as California.
They do have a Canadian only S2...bell only actually. The i757m. Frigging nightmare! LOL. My wife bought it without me looking into it. Literally has 2 current roms and not even its own forum section. Lol
Sent from my cell phone telephone....
Yeesh! Actually sounds a little like dealing with the Ace II X situation that a few carriers offer. I guess I should have thought about that one before I wrote the last part of my post. I guess manufacturing of these devices really is down to an art for Samsung - they don't even have to sell that many of them to make worth their while.
