Hi,
I just bought a GN (GSM) and flashed it with AOKP ROM (Milestone 3) & Franco kernel (nightly 16). Everything is working great except Exchange email syncing. The native Android app just throws me an error that it cannot connect to the server (although server hostname is correct & responds to requests via OWA). Using 3rd party apps such as NitroDesk Touchdown doesn't work either. I'm seeing the following error:
javax.net.ssl.SSLProtocolException: SSL handshake aborted: ssl=0x2985c0: Failure in SSL library, usually a protocol error
error:14077410:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:sslv3 alert handshake failure (external/openssl/ssl/s23_clnt.c:658 0x401ebcc3:0x00000000):Exception performing request
Strange thing is that I used to have this problem as well on my Nexus One when running stock gingerbread, but when I was running CM7 I could sync perfectly.
I've already tried using CM7 Email.apk but that just crashes. I've also tried various other customized Email.apk's but they either crash or give the same error.
Any ideas how to get around this?
Thanks!
Do you have "use SSL" and "accept all SSL certs" checked?
Also, make sure you just put the server name without https:// or /owa. For example: mail.server.com

I use touchdown and everything is fine.

Both "Use SSL" & "Accept All Certificates" are checked. Same for Touchdown. I just tried again over 3G (yesterday I was trying over WiFi) but still fails :-(.
Server is set correctly (in format my.server.com - no https or owa).

Can you login to OWA just fine? Are you certain you have ActiveSync enabled by your Exchange Admin?
If so, make sure your credentials are entered in as DOMAIN\username.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
is your device allowed in active sync? might need your exchange admin change your device ID from the old phone to the new one.
Set-CASMailbox YourAdUserID -ActiveSyncAllowedDeviceIDs: {device ID}
Yes the device is allowed, I was using EAS before on my Nexus One until yesterday... Anyway, meanwhile I've figured out through www.testexchangeconnectivity.com (thx spirouzbe ) that the SSL configuration on our server is not good... So it's not ICS that's buggy Thx anyway for your help!

Aha! I forgot all about that site. It helped me out when migrating to Exchange 2010.
I'm glad you figured out the root of the problem.

Hi all,
I am trying out a Desire this weekend, in general like it. I have got the Exchange sync to work for mail, cal & contacts however if I try to access the Company Directory (GAL) or Search the Inbox I get nothing returned.
I downloaded TouchDown to test and this works fine. But I dont want to use a 3rd Party tool for email (or I could have got a Nexus).
Has anybody else seen this error before, or have any idea's? Other wise its mail if back Monday.
Thank for your help.
Peter
Nobody can help
So HTC say, remove the sync and re-create. Does nothing.
Company IT say there are no more settings to change.
Am I the only person that has seen this, I found one other when searching web, but nobody replied.....
As an alternative would look at a GAL address book viewer?
Any help would be great, newbie with the phone and forum.
Whats your Exchange Version? For me with Echange 2010 it works fine.

The OWA server and Exchange Server is 2007. Did you have issues in the past?
I have the same issue only with Exchange 2003 (we'll be moving to 2007 soon). Was chuffed to finally get my email working today (firewall and all that) and have realised I can't browse the GAL. Might try Touchdown (although I had installed it before - will it let me use it as a Trial again???)...

I and a colleague of mine have the same problem with Exchange 2003 SP2. GAL search works fine on other phones (i.e. the iPhone).
I've seen people report that it works for them though, so I have no clue what's wrong, but I have an open ticket with HTC on the issue.
Well l'm using touchdown at the moment and it appears to work really well. Everything I could want from a client. Need to see if it is worth $20 though before taking the plunge. HTC Mail is a bit limited in comparison. although the OP doesn't want to buy a third party app I would say that is one of the points of Android that if the stock app doesn't work you can get hold of an app that does...

Thanks for the feedback, I also opened a ticket. Seems like very few people have reported this as and issue they either get all or nothing syncing.

I tried Touchdown, the issuethat I have is that the calander is then not combined which I really do like as a feature, and as far as I can see I cant just use it for email and get it to link to the standard apps I have to use it for contacts and Cal as well.
Same for me. I am syncing mails, calendar and contacts without any problems. Only company directory does not work.
I think it is not a connection problem. It is always telling me that nobody could be found. That is even happening when network connections are disabled. So it seems if this tool does not even try to connect.
Thats interesting, I did not try turning off the comm's, so at least it points to a software issue then. More hope HTC might fix it.
I think there may be an issue with contacts lookup via GAL/ Exchange 2003 on HTC STOCK Mail app. nothing shows up.

I had the same problem running Exchange 2003
GAL becomes inaccessible if security profiles are enabled ("Enforce password on device", etc..) and "Allow access to devices that do not fully support password settings" is disabled.
A bad workaround is to enable "Allow access to devices that do not fully support password settings", but that may prevent you from remotely wiping some devices and prevent some devices from initializing security profiles.
A better workaround is to add your account to the exceptions list. Doing that will enable access to GAL but disable the exchange lock screen.
I believe this is happening because either Android 2.1 or HTC mail application either doesn't support Exchange security profiles completely, or doesn't report them correctly.
Hi all, we have a product that might be of interest to you called GALSync Server. Unfortunately I can't post a URL but I'm sure you can find it with a bit of Googling.
It works by sync'ing a copy of the GAL into selected users' Exchange mailboxes which ActiveSync or BES then syncs in turn to the user's device. Works with iPhone or Windows Mobile.
We love it.
But we would wouldn't we.
Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the heads up, however its not what I am looking for:
1. You dont support Android from what I can tell.
2. I have to get the company to set it up.
I was hoping to either fix the HTC sync or an app on the handset that can get access.
Thanks
Agree with baronb. HTC needs to fix this issue. Corp IT Administrators will not make exceptions to their security settings. Also, I know from using Touchdown by Nitrodesk that it does, and CAN work.

I talked with HTC hot desk who were not very helpful and seemed to have lost my previous information. They said I should wait for an update!
At this point I am starting to look at alternatives as the lack of GAL for me while on the road was an issue last week.
Is there any more info on this one? I am having this bug too and it is the only thing stopping me from recommending the Desire as a suitable phone for my company to use for all staff right now!
Nothing, yet will bug Hotdesk again this week. The more people to log the error maybe the faster they will fix it.....+44 8458900079

I doubt the battery app is causing it. The only problem I had with exchange is that Comcast sometimes did not like my exchange servers.

try manual setup with domain\username

You might need manual setup. See if you need to use the domain\username, password and then your mail.schooldomain.com server details.
you can also check the ActiveSync setup by going to - https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/
if his school is giving him android directions then as is deff setup. now what you say about the domain\ is very possible but i doubt it because i am using the same rom as him and administrate an exchange 2010 server which has more security reqs as far as stuff like that goes so other than a mistyped key idk what the problem for him could be unless they are requiring caps in username.
My guess would be that you're using server/username as opposed to server\username. Again, only a guess.

What about ssl? Do you have that checked? If your school requires it and you don't have it checked you might get that error.

I recently set up my S3 to access my company's Exchange server. I also had a hard time setting it up initially and had to do a manual setup.
Since you are getting both a username and password error first make sure that you are using the right exchange server address.
For me it is something like
exch2010.servername.com .
Next you should make sure that your user name is preceded by your domain name. In my case my server name and domain name are the same.
So it should look something like.
domain\username
Hope this helps.

Just to add on here. My server name and domain name are also the same however the trick that works for me is that i cannot put in my domain name prior to my username, if i do it will fail to connect. I do have to input the backslash prior to my username though or again it will fail to connect. Also is your IT dept using a security policy on the server side to control mobile device access to Activesync? I know from my own experience that if you use a security policy to prevent unprovisioned devices from accessing the Activesync account the user will see an "incorrect password error repeatedly, at least on some phones like the iPhone for instance.

is there anyway where i can download the ssl library ? i guess its something to do with it ... i give up trying on exchange, trying out on IMAP..but still gives error saying Can't safely connect to server.(javax.net.ssl.SSLProtocolException: SSL handshake aborted: ssl=0x5c057350. there has been a lot of good feedback and suggestion to resolving this issue ... and if none of this advice is working still... i'd nandroid (back it up), wipe it all, and go stock. after that if you're still having an issue then possibly their setup is not working

I've never had a problem with stock email, I mainly use IMAP but have occasionally set pop. I did however have to go to my email provider settings and tick allow IMAP.
I have used K9 before which seemed OK, not sure how frequently it'll check though

If I'm honest it sounds like somewhere you're entering the wrong settings
I use the stock mail app for my work emails from without issue.
Thing is these pop servers are really sensitive to the ports you try to use and what type of encryption you use etc, get one wrong and it will fail
Have you got another working email client on a pc or something that you can literally just copy the settings from, ports, encryption and all?

Does it give any errors when connecting?
Password definitely correct? Normally greyed out otherwise so I guess there's a slight slight chance that that's wrong? Can you reset it and try again, just to be sure? Unless of course the password you're trying works elsewhere like Web mail etc

[Q] Mail App "username or password incorrect too many simultaneous connections" error
Yesterday I flashed AOKP JB 4.2.2 milestone, and since than I been having problems with my mail app
I use the standard mail app on my Galaxy Nexus, and when I try to add my Gmail account to it, it gives me the error "username or password incorrect too many simultaneous connections".
I have been searching the web for solutions, but nothing helped.
I logged out of all the active sessions, I changed the IMAP settings, etc...
But nothing seems to work...
Is there anybody else that is having this problem or anybody who knows a solution?
same here... but on CM10.1...
as I saw, others experimented it too...
1. remove mail account
2. wait, restart
3. add email account again...
