Bluetooth MAP Profile - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Okay, supposedly this phone supports the MAP profile, however, I can't seem to get it to work on any FORD / Chrysler / etc. device that supports the Message Access Profile for utilizing SMS over Bluetooth.
I know that CM7 recently committed some patches to enable MAP for CM7 devices.
Does anyone have any idea?
I tried querying the device capabilities by using 'sdptool browse local' to see if it was listed, but that returns can't connect to service.
Thanks!

Our stock based kernels have trouble with this from what I understand. Running cm7 alpha is the only way I've seen it work.

What is the map profile?

It is "Message Access Profile" a bluetooth profile that allows sms and email transmission over bluetooth.
Ford Sync and Chrysler/Dodge and BMW have car audio systems that use this profile to allow the radio to 'read' text messages (and on some, email msgs) and allow canned responses to be sent without using your hands. It will also alert tone when a msg is received.
Hopefully that explains it.

Do you have a link to this ROM? I just want to test it myself. (The CM7 patches for MAP profile weren't committed until around the 11th of Jan - and I haven't seen any ROMs for CM7 for our phones after that date)
Thanks!

try ecid it eliminates need for that, reads your text over bluetooth

Sorry we don't have it yet on this device. I've got it working on my hd2, with cm7.

That's cool - I tried it on my G2 with the latest CM7 compiled with the MAP commits, however, I'm guessing it's hardware dependent?? as well, since it didn't work on the G2. (nowhere in the G2 specs is MAP listed as a BT Profile)
What did you sync to to test on your HD2? Uconnect? Sync?

[Q] FM Radio?

Please excuse me if this has already been addressed but has anyone gained access or control of the FM radio chipset in the G2. It's my understanding that the G2 has a FM radio with RDS. I also remember reading a post on this forum about someone verifying the existence of a FM emission from a G2 on a constant freq. but this was before anyone had even temp root if i remember correctly. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sweet, can it transmit? My wife wants to play her music in the car.

They had to reverse engineer access to the chip since HTC wouldn't release the source so, for now, it can only receive as sorting out the transmit will take time and there's more pressing issues (like Gingerbread!).

FM
FM receive is also in Visionary ROM. I am using version 0.9.0 and can highly recommend it. I don't think it does transmit in this config, however.
Giving this a bump.....
Is FM transmit upcoming in cyamogenmod 7 by any chance?
You might want to look into buying a Motorola MotoROKR.
I use it every day, and its GREAT. connect your phone to it via bluetooth, then pump any audio that would normally come out your phone, to your car speakers, with NO wires..... its GREAT.
Highly recommended.

I don't it transmits either. Or I can't find it at least how to make it do so. Receiving it does a great job though
a transmitter would make this phone complete :]
good news, i thought it was cut from hardware.

Is there a speak to text function for bluetooth in a car?

Hi all. Is there a way that when my S3 is connected to my car via bluetooth that it can read any text message that comes in out loud and then gives me a chance to respond to it with my voice and converts it to a text message? My previous phone had this option and it was SO helpful.
I read your message to mean that your car supports this, and you want to know if the phone does.
The requirement for this is Bluetooth's Message Access Profile (MAP). I believe the stock ROM is supposed to have this, but I've heard reports that it doesn't work properly (this might vary by carrier, and/or might be fixed when stock JB arrives).
Custom ROMs probably have a better chance of working with MAP (CyanogenMod has had it for a while, up to and including CM10).
Good luck!

4.2. Working bluetooth and wifi-tethering

So i have tried out about 4 ROM's for android 4.2.1 and i haven't found a single one with both wifi-tethering and bluetooth working. Has anyone had any luck?
For now I went back to CM10 but the bluetooth audio has no bass

CM10 bluetooth bass is fixed by
editing build.prop and setting
lpa.decode=false
Reboot and you should be good to go!

Unfortunately, this seems to afflict almost every 4.2 AOSP-based ROM out there. I've reverted back to a late-November ParanoidAndroid ROM for the time being. Performance isn't as good (I'm a fan of 60fps environment), but it works for everything. I've got to have BT audio working, so I don't really have a choice, unless I go to TouchWiz.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the CM team gets the issue knocked out, though. When they do, I'll happily switch back over to CM.
Yeah I really can't wait for the bluetooth to be fixed. I switched back to TW for bluetooth, but it was just not that good for me. Back to Task's AOKP 4.2. For now in my car I am using the aux cable for audio, so I'm really hoping sometime really soon they fix it.

I do not need BT to work for any particular purpose but I DO need wifi tethering to work. I just put CM 10.1 on my phone and found that this is not working right now... I can create a hotspot but I cannot get my computer to connect to it. Is this a common problem people are having? Does Task's 4.2 rom work with tethering?

I believe WiFi tethering can work when security is disabled. Give that a try.
Edit: Yup, just tried it myself. Under "Set up Wi-Fi hotspot," Select "Open" and You'll be good to go.

Gotcha. Hopefully this will be fixed soon... Having a open connection defeats the purpose of it for me as I usually tether when taking a train / bus / am in a open area... don't want others taking my 4g!

Yeah definitely isn't the most convenient.. but at least it's a way to have it working.

4.1.2 bluetooth MAP on 4.3?

So, I updated to 4.3 and now my focus is having problems with bluetooth. It used to work perfectly before the update but now the metadata of the song doesn't update on the radio and some other things like texts don't come through like they used to.
Simply put, is there a way to get the old bluetooth "stuff" into 4.3 or is that baked in?
I was just studying the BT issues and I found out all phones with 4.2 or greater has BT problems across the board.
Can you just copy-paste BT files? I don't know.
But its a common issue.

That's what I aim to find out... I'm tempted to just go back to a 4.1.2 ROM but meh...
No, I agree about staying with 4.3. I'm sure Google will release a fix or a clever xda member will get it.
Bump, still looking for info

Sounds like he isn't getting song info and text messages on his car's head unit when connected to the phone through BT on a 4.3 ROM.
Me, I just get choppy playback.

Pretty much. I used to be able to see what was playing. I used to be able to control pandora (pause/skip) but that no longer works either. I also do not get notifications like texts anymore.

Quoting you too so you get a notification,
Edit: quote from a verizon thread:
Just so everyone is aware, this is due to the whole Motorola/Google ownership change. In previous versions of Android, Motorola sourced their own protocols for their products, and included MAP in their bluetooth profiles. Since the Jelly Bean update, they've used Google's own Bluetooth protocols, in which MAP was omitted.
is this true? Surely not, how would it have worked on 4.1.2?
Edit again:
http://www.androidheadlines.com/201...ocus-feature-bluetooth-map-now-supported.html
Says kitkat supports MAP again............. may just get a kitkat rom even though I'd rather stick to stock TW.....
Well, I updated to 4.4 ........... still no go
