[Q] "The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" error [resolved]
Forgive me if I've posted this on the wrong board, but I'd a bit anxious about this.
I've rooted my phone using Unrevoked 3 and haven't done much else aside from install a couple root-only apps like Wireless Tether, Root Explorer, etc. I also removed most of the Sprint bloatware. I'm still on the stock rom, etc, etc.
I can make/receive calls just fine, but I tried calling *2 today to try and figure out the problem I've posted another thread about and that error message popped up. I restored to my backup I made earlier today before I installed a couple other apps and nothing's changed. It's only when I try calling *2. Any ideas?
EDIT: Upon more attempts at calls, I've realized I cannot call any sprint services.
Let me get this straight. You are new to Android/rooting, and just pretty much arbitrarily started deleting what you thought was Sprint bloatware from your phone.
I would suggest you backup your data, and flash something like Sprint Lovers ROM, and see if everything works. If everything works then leave your phone alone until you have a better grasp as to what you are doing. Because it sounds like you deleted something that you should not have, and now the phone is getting wonky.

Fixed it, thank you very much for the suggestion.
And yeah kfmq, damn me for deleting sprint nascar.apk
I'm having the same problem yet I never deleted anything. I'm using Kings Ultra it was working perfectly one moment then I wake up the next morning and I can't make calls. Any suggestions please.

It may have been something you installed, that's the only thing I can think of. I hope you made a backup when your phone was working fine, because I'd recommend restoring to that. Otherwise I guess just flash a fresh copy of the rom and hopefully that fixes it.
not sure where to begin, i suppose by listing my phone specs after root--
using the galaxy s2, (epic 4g touch) using kernal 2.6.35-8lostkernelexp+, build number starburst 11.13.11 v1.9.8r and running nothing but the honey theme.
i rooted the phone about a week ago and until today, everything seemed to work fine, then suddenly, i was unable to send pictures via text. not a real big issue, but i travel alot and sending pics back home by messages i a big deal for me. i thought it was just somethin with the phone, and after rebooting and rebooting to see if it would correct, it did not. however, normal text's would go through, just not any pics. i could send and receive normal words with no issues.
then just today, i totally lost internet connection--although the 3g is lit up on top, and i have 4 full bars of signal, i cannot surf, all i get is "unable to display webpage". since im at home, i turned on the wifi option and connected through the router in my house, and all worked fine-- i got online, send pic texts, etc...but when i turned wifi off, nothing.
now, back when i rooted the phone, i still kept getting the annoying "system update" messages that the phone normally does, forcing me to install whatever update the phone grabs. to prevent that, i did the steps on this site which was here--
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1388778&highlight=freeze+ota
and disabled my update notifications. well, back to the beginning--now i have no internet at all and god only knows what else is wrong that i have yet to discover.
only thing i can think of at this point, is to unroot the phone , return it to the way it was and see how it goes but i dont want to do that--
any ideas?

Why not nandroid a backup of your current setup and then do a full factory reset wipe and ODIN over a stock rom and see if that fixes it...if it does then there is no reason to bring a perfectly good phone back.
Diagnostic process bro, get on it.
However if that doesn't yield any results? Might be bad hardware (which I doubt) and probably not your fault.
EDIT: You haven't changed your PRL by chance, have you? Sometimes on 11115 or 00001 I get intermittent MMS function...and a few times, legit PRL or not, my wifi/4g have just stopped working. A wipe and stock-restore took care of that every time...though that was a week or two after the phone came out and we didn't have nearly as many tools and options as we do now.
Also, are you sure that you haven't somehow disabled 3G or put it into airplane mode? As insulting as that sounds I have to ask....
...sometimes even the brightest of us forget to plug things in.
Odin restore would be the first step.
I would try ##72786# in the dialer then entering your msl. After that just just hut yes then let your phone do its thing and reboot and reactivate. Just remember to cancel it during the firmware check.

Good call...or even just trying to refresh your profile under 'updates' would be the easiest place to start...
The mms issues are likely a limitation of the ROM you are running (I haven't run Starburst in a couple of months so you'll have to ask about that in the ROM thread.) Easily resolved by using a third party app for mms if it is an important feature for you.
As far as the rest, the code provided by beejis is the reprovisioning code, also called a hands free reset and there is a bit more to the process than he stated (at least for a noob.) Hit the toolkit link in my signature and you'll find step by step instructions.
If that doesn't work, starting fresh is an incredibly simple process.
Also, posting the exact same question in two different forums is breaking a Cardinal rule, so you probably want to refrain from that, it won't win you many friends.

yes i tried that, after the phone reboots, it says uptop "device not activated" and nothiing....i have to manually go into settings/about phone/system update and do it from there and even then, after a few secs, i get an error message saying unable to complete...

yes, tried that to.....get nothing but "error cannot complete" messages. all i can do now is make calls
If you have titanium backup, go into that app then click backup/restore at the top. Find system updates and click on it to see if it's frozen, if it is defrost it. Then try my steps again. Other than that I'd try to Odin a stock ROM.

ok thanks, i went back to odin stock rom, did it from qbking77's post and the phone is back on stock...however............still no internet/data!!
i did do the ##number thing, the phone rebooted but notihng happened--i thought it was supposed to auto activate or something. so i went into settings/about phone/update profile....it scanned and after a few mins, i still get the error message "update could not be completed, if problem persists contact sprint customer support"
so im back on factory rom, but nothings changed---im where i was before--no data/internet....
before installing a different rom and such, i figure ill stop here and see what other suggestions may come about....sooooo, what next?
Take your phone in to a sprint store, an exchange may be in your future.

yes indeed, sorry about that. when i made the post here, i originally couldnt find it and thought it was auto deleted somehow because i had checked "is this a question" button at the bottom, so i went into the q/a section and made the post there...

gee i hope not... i got the phone dec 14th, cant imagine having probs this early....
what if i did a total wipe, factory reset? i know ill loose everything on the phone, and now that its not rooted any longer, i have no way to back up anything (or at least not that i know of)
just hoping theres a better fix than a return/ factory reset
Now that you are stock, call sprint tell them your issue (only tell then internet doesn't work) and they'll do stuff on their end to trouble shoot it. Hopefully that will fix it.

I would try this. This will reset you back to exactly the way you got the phone. If you are still having problems then you will have to take it back to Sprint.

That sucks, I'd recommend taking the phone to Sprint/where you bought it, and get it replaced/fixed. Good news is you're now back on stock so they won't really look into rooting as a problem. I always put phones back to stock before I take it in for a claim.

yea, dunno...
i did call sprint per Beejis reply here just above yours. after going through a ton of crap that i did yesterday and all today, the ## number crap, they tell me there's a nationwide outage. now i find that hard to believe since both my other phones in the house, wife/kid work just fine and they have data/internet and other ppl i know have no problems....i told the tech person that it just must be my phone only cuz everyone else's seems to work.
she did give me an outage number, maybe someone on here can verify it -- 8622911 so who the heck knows. what i do know is, i sure spent a heck of alota time on here, resetting my phone, unrooting, blahh blahh just to find out there's an outage which i doubt in the first place ...
we'll see,,,,,
If you are now stock/rooted, sounds like you need to use sfhubs auto root script to go back to stock recovery (overwrite your custom recovery) unroot, and take it back to Sprint.

its just stock odin at this point, as if it came from the store.
also, still no data/internet as of this morning. dont know why sprint
is telling me this bs story of an outage, and even if so, i find it way hard to beleive its a 4 day outage
but yes, looks like im headed back to the store-- i got it at best buy, have insurance and all that, but ill wait till tomorrow or something just in case this phantom outage corrects itself
by the way, where do i find this sfhubs root your talking about?
oh one other thing i discovered today also, now gps dont work either, no location, no search no nothing and it is turned on......... sigh
What the hell is happend with the HTC hub ? I cant download skins, widgets and anything at all. :S

I got the phone in August, still stock and the hub has never worked for me.......ever....I select it, black screen with the "please wait" message, then "unable to connect to the HTC sense server. Please try again later". I select OK then it closes.
Worked fine, and still does on my desire......not once, ever on my One V, not even fresh out of the box with nothing installed yet.
Oh well, thank god this is Android and I can just sideload whatever I want.

It just appeared in my notification blind saying that it was downloading Facebook (build 132866). It's not downloading from the Play Store. If I check the App Info (hold on the notification and click App Info), it's the Download Manager, not Play Store. According to the Play Store, I have the latest version of Facebook and I don't have automatic updating on it. Clicking this download doesn't open anything. I tried restarting my phone and it was the first thing to appear on my phone, even before the launcher finished loading!
It's been downloading forever and I don't know how to stop it! Any ideas what to do with it?
SOLVED! Connect to a WiFi and it'll download instantly.
Facebook (Build 132866)
I had the same issue you had. For me, it took about 24 hours for the application to actually begin to download, then it asks you to install it. I did because I wanted to see what happens, but as far as I can tell it didn't do anything. I still have the newest version of Facebook (2.2.1), nothing on my phone was modified or removed.
I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I'm with WIND Mobile, I have a friend who's with Sprint who's had the same issue as well. I'm the only one out of all my friends that this has happened to. So if anyone else has a good explanation as to why this happened please share
UK too
Not that this helps anyone, but it's happening in the UK too. I'm on H3G, just about to tweet them and see if they know anything about it (they probably wont) seeing as this is happening on both sides of the pond, on different networks, it looks like it's an HTC fail. It's been downloading on mine for about 17 hours now
Seeing the same thing for a couple of hours now on my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3. I've tried a reboot as well as a power down/power up and it keeps coming back after reboot. Maybe I'll do a battery pull and see what happens -- or turn on my WIFI to see if it completes quicker.

Oh thanks for the idea! I turned on my WiFi and it downloaded straight away. I guess this is an update directly from the Facebook app and not a phone specific thing.
Downloaded and installed, was stuck downloading also until I turned on wifi. I do not notice anything new or different. I am wonder why this is being pushed out like this instead of a market update. I did a Google search to see if Facebook or anyone else has announced this update, but didn't find anything other than posts like this one.

I'm seeing this too my my T989. I didn't know that the Facebook app could update itself outside of the Play Store. Not very happy about it.
Even after uninstalling Facebook and Facebook Pages Manager, it is still there trying to download!
Update: Killing Download Manager app removed it from my notification bar.
Update 2: Now it is back, even with all Facebook apps uninstalled!
I'm getting this right now heading back to work to connect to the t
wifi
I wonder if this update has anything to do in preparation for this....

Here is a solution someone posted and it worked for me, I have a galaxy note 2. Go to the downloads folder and you will probably see two entries of this file trying to download. Delete them both. No more hanging download.
Connected to the wifi and it downloaded and forced me to update my Facebook app with no significant changes.
What the heck is this crap? I don't see "turn on wifi" as a solution to the problem. I'm wondering why in the heck Facebook is downloading crap externally from the market. If anyone finds any kind of an explanation to this I would greatly appreciate it.
Uninstalling and rebooting an app and still getting a some rogue hung download only to "turn on wifi" to get it to go away? Really? I don't even want it on my phone any more.
btw if you don't want to turn on wifi to download it you can apparently uninstall the app then kill download manager and it seems to go away.

Yes it will, but if you force stop the download manager, then clear the cache and data, it seems to stop. I had the ongoing download for days...I could force stop and it would pop back after a few minutes...I even
uninstalled Facebook and it kept popping back up... but after clearing all data and cache, it hasn't come back yet

This worked perfectly for me. Killing the download manager only delays the forced update. As soon as you restart it, the auto update resumes. Deleting the actual files in the folder is the only thing that worked for me.
So Yesterday I flashed a SM-G960U(SPR) with a SM-G960U(XAS). It fixed the problem where I have to see the damn Sprint Boot and Shutdown Animation but now I have this problem during setup wherein it says Activate Your Device and Registering the Device with the network after every reboot (Its freaking annoying). Its been stuck there for almost 9 hours already and still not progressing. In case anyone is asking, Yes I have the signal from my carrier (Globe, Im from the Philippines), Yes my phone can connect to the internet, and Yes I have tried everything from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...-to-remove-sprint-omadm-notification-t3636264 but I dont like force stopping the OMADM and Activate your device screen everytime I reboot. if there's anymore questions please feel free to ask. I had this exact same thing happen on my Sprint S5, but in the S5 days you werent able to completely flash another carriers firmware. The only thing that would stop that is having root access and freezing the app in titanium backup pro while on a touchwiz based ROM. Anyways, there are some non-root methods out there to freeze apps, but im not sure if thell work for system apps. Worth a shot IMO if its bugging you that badly.
