GS2 T989 is much better the Galaxy Nexus.

We are always going to be behind with software. This is the Google's and Manufacturer's fault. I have the Galaxy Nexus in my hand today and I had the GS2 for 2 months already there is nothing that Galaxy Nexus has that GS2 doesn't and we have to wait for this **** manufacturer's to release updates. The GS2 is faster and more conferable in hand.
If anyone has any questions ask me I'll try to answer.

I won't go as far as to say that the Galaxy S II is the better phone. I had a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon and it was great other then a couple defects I ran into. The software on the Galaxy Nexus will most likely be better then what makes its way to the GSII and the notification led on the Nexus is the best one I have seen on any phone. The Galaxy S II has a way better camera and has been a lot more reliable.
Both are great phones. Its really hard to say which one is better.

I say your essentially buying the same phone twice. Besides ics and a few other differences they are basically the same phone.

I agree with you, we have a better hardware and behind on software, until Samsung >Tmobile give us the update we are on old software we have to thank the devs so much for makeing the rom's.

I'm sure theirs been a long thread discussing this already. Everyone feels strongly opinionated and there is no true winner. They both have pros and cons. If I HAD to choose I would go with the Nexus hands down for the fact that its a nexus phone and development will be great. ICS seems amazing and the display as well.

Okay.. I own and love both phones and these types of threads are entirely subjective and flame prone. Holding a phone in your hand is NOT a valid explanation for why a phone is better than another. You need to have plenty of hands-on time to really know the pro's and con's of both. (And neither is immune to either.)

most of us dont even notice the issue until someone mention it(i didnt know this until i heard about it..and i always use my phone in the dark..)

Man we buy the phones for $500 to $600 and we have to cry to get some software updates thats the thing. Google shouldn't relese the update till all the major manufacturers have their updates ready as well. If it goes like this we are going to get ICS end of the year, after original Galaxy s 2 i9100 gets it then we get it and that's the question if the carriers put thirty **** in there. So we looking at till September when Google will unveil the 5.0

if you read on the i9250 forum, they too have the screen problem, and their screen is 720
other than ICS which we'll get, the only other difference is the Barometer sensor
otherwise the i9250 is actually under grade, they even got a major issue with the storage and MTP, and fake sdcard to make old Apps compatible, but even so, there are still Apps that are still not compatible

Ill take external SD support, 8mp cam over the galaxy nexus anyday. This whole the nexus is better crap is dumb all it has is ics and even ics isn't that amazing i used it on the sensation for two weeks and its really good. It adds plenty of things that are pleasant and well done now on android. The bad is apps still need to be updated but the sensation outclassed the galaxy nexus with ics as it is and once we get it this phone will be above the nexus. People buy a phone and always look for something to complain about the screen issue is annoying if you notice it but I'm hoping supercurio makes a fix for us. Either way my use isn't affected except for maybe 5% of the time and even then its just not pleasant to look at. There are a handful of phones that once they have ics will make the nexus look out dated galaxy s 2, amaze 4g, rezound, razr, etc.... development is just slowed from these phones being new and because developing gingerbread might be worthless if ics is here in a couple months.

My nexus will be here Tuesday and ill be happy to do a side by side comparison. The gs2 is the best phone I've ever owned and I've owned alot. Outside of the OS the nexus will have a hard time convincing me otherwise.

Ha-ha that's how I felt at first too but being on my second day now it's actually pretty easy. The hardest part for me was not hitting the damn home button instead of the space bar.

I'm having that problem now currently with the SG2 haha. Second day with the phone (last phone was MT4G) and every other time when hitting the space bar I hit one of the "hard" buttons on the bottom. Slowly getting used to it though.
I will say - if the Nexus had an equal or better camera than the SG2, I would probably return this and get that instead, especially as there's supposed to be a white one coming out. But I use my phone's camera A LOT, and it's an important feature for me, so the Nexus is out right there. I don't know why they'd release a 'flagship' phone with semi out-of-date specs. With iphone 4, SG2, and many others coming out with 8 megapixels, why would Google only do 5?? Anyway...

Im going to donate a tmobile galaxy s2 to the first dev that makes a fully working ics rom for t989.

Lol, well the GS2 is a vast improvement over the myTouch 4G. (I loved that phone when it first came out too, lol.)
I think the Nexus camera has a lot of software issues. It is okay but i think it will get better as Google picks up the slack. Hell they paused the latest update for reasons unknown but people have reported much better stats all around with the leaked 4.0.3 that has been lurking around. I truly believe people make a bigger deal than what is necessary about both of these phones. Why try to argue one over the other? They are both great! As i said previously, both have pro's and con's but i think either or should be enough to satisfy the vast majority of users.

Nexus One Vs. Galaxy Nexus

So there i was cleaning my room -.-' and as i was cleaning i found my old nexus one. It was dead, so I plugged it in.
When i turned the device on, a lot of memories came to mind, as the progress google has made.
But then as i was looking trough it i noticed that it felt kind of fast for it to be a 3 years old. So I put my Gnex running jellybean next to it.
To my surprise every action was faster on the Nexus One? Odd but yeah. Openning Applications like the clock, calendar, browser, settings.
How come a three year old device is faster than the galaxy nexus, i know the gnex has a lot more things to process as well as the size of the screen, but common really? I guess im going to use it as an mp3 player now.

Screen resolution I would guess, gnex is pushing out android in HD 720p and nexus one is what 800x600 perhaps roughly. Also older versions of android I expect are much less complex than jelly bean. The only fair way to test is do a test of stock JB on each device and see which fares better then, but still you have to take into concideration just how many more pixels gnex is pushing out. Cool story though :thumbup:

You could never damage your brain from THC. Just sayin.

I have both too. If you run stock on both (gingerbread vs jelly bean), there is certainly no way the gnex is slower...
For one, the touch response on n1 was pretty bad... its not slow, but to say its faster than gnex is a bit odd.

I have both too, n1 is a quite good phone, but the touch problem is historically odd.

I just switched from 2.5 years of using the N1. The GN is better in every aspect.

My N1 is sitting in it's cradle on my kitchen bar and has become an e-mail alert system--I can see the flashing track ball from most points in my main living area when an e-mail comes in.
One place the Galaxy Nexus really excels over the Nexus One is as a music player. I was never impressed with the sound quality of the N1. And with low impedance headphones, there is a periodic thumping sound/artifact, about one thump per second. The Galaxy Nexus, on the other hand, has some of the best sound quality I've heard on a portable music player--at least as good or better than my iPod Classic 120GB.
That brings up one thing the N1 had that I really miss--a microSD card slot. I wish the GN had a modern microSD slot--I'd love to have a 64GB SDXC microSD card in it. I get around this by mounting a flash drive via USB OTG that contains my music collection, but it's definitely not ideal.

Keep Nexus or return and get S3?

I know it's been asked a billion times, but I'm asking again. Hopefully I get some positive feedback. I have an unopened unlocked gnex sitting on my table that I ordered from Google and I don't know whether to keep it or return it and get an S3. I truly believe the S3 will have a pushed JB update from Samsung within a month here in the US. That said, once the S3 has JB, what's the perk to getting a Nexus? The biggest reasons I'm even considering the S3 over the Nexus is the bigger battery and the ability to add an sd card. The unlocked gsm version only has 16gb of memory. I take pics and like to watch movies on my phone. I'm coming from a 64gb iPhone 4S so I'm used to having whole seasons of shows plus a few movies plus tons of big apps without even having to pay attention to my storage at all. Will I have to worry about this with a 16gb Nexus? Did anyone else out there have the same problem and found it to be true or not true after using the phone? Basically those are my concerns. Battery and space. I know I'll always have the most up to date OS with the Nexus but it's like there's a new OS released every week. It's months and months in between updates. I'm not worried about my 10gb of music. I'll stream from the cloud or use Spotify. There again, it's just that measly 16gb of space with no way of making it bigger. Thanks for the advice in advance.

It seems as though you've already made up you're mind that you'd be more comfortable with the S3. I think the best way to put it is if you want a solid stock experience then keep the Nexus. If you don't care about stock and any major updates past Jelly Bean then go with the S3.

You seem to already know the pros and cons of each phone. You'll be in the best position to decide.
Having said that, I still think the GN is the better choice especially considering the price. I'd use the GN and wait for the next best thing to come out.

if youre worried about space.. get the s3. both are great phones. s3 should get jellyjean at some point, but to be honest its pretty fast on ics so it wouldnt really matter.

Like they said, you seem to have made up your mind about this. And in your case, considering what you wrote, what you're looking for, I would also get the S3. As you said, the Nexus has only 16GB (although I think there's still a 32GB version) and the S3 has better battery life and camera (and the speakers in the Nexus are not too loud either).
Recently I was trying to decide between the two, so I asked in this forum and their advice really helped me decide (you can check my topic and read their opinions). And before I asked here, I was actually thinking I would chose the S3. Though my priorities weren't battery life or storage space, but software and support, so I chose the Nexus and I'm pretty happy with it. I love it. It's not the best hardware-wise, but I know that of the phones currently available, this is the best for me (and I'm waiting for the next Nexus).

You can root your GN then use external storage with sticky mount (apk)... There you will have all the space you can buy. 1T external?
I'm using 36G+16G (from my phone) with external storage and is more than what I need. So if you like the GN you have some options.

When you first line starts out with 'I know it has been asked a billion times' do you really need to make it a billion and one? Do you think you will get a special answer that the other billion people did not?

i doubt the us version will get it that fast..but the international will get it within a month

Hi ive both. A nexus running cm10 and sgs3 running cm10 but the s3 has problems but if you dont like stock touckwiz you can install cm10 which will be like your galaxy nexus... Someone got there hands on jellybean 4.1.1 for the galaxy s3 today but no major difference to 4.0 ice cream sandwich

Doubtful. The S2 is testing JB right now and is said to get the update to JB so long as everything goes well. If the S2 is still getting updates, that tells me that in a year the S3 will still get updates.

Galaxy Nexus?

So I see that the Galaxy Nexus is free right now on sprint. should I get it? it's got a bigger screen, much faster processor, and the same ram. EDIT: Twice the ram.
The only downside I see to this phone is that there is no memory card slot which is really handy for transferring roms or y'know PORN to the phone from the computer. (or so I think, rather than hooking up a cable and screwing around) (my computer always has a micro sd adapter in it)
Space isn't an issue because I don't store any music on my phone (I use pandora)
I am really wanting the nfc thing because then I can buy a tag and have it turn on my pandora and bluetooth.
The phone I really want is the Note 2, but $300 is really high. Not rich after all.
Final Summation?

Sprint, sprint, sprint. I don't think carrier branded Nexus are worthy...

CDMA Nexii are always the last to receive updates for the Nexus line. Both Sprint, and particularly Verizon, are notorious for holding up releases for these phones.
Plus the Nexus 4 was just released.

If you're an XDA member it's retarded to complain about carrier updates. A Nexus is a Nexus. For one, Sprint got 4.1 out in two months after its release. For two, it can always be compiled from AOSP source. Google even released binaries for the Sprint variant for 4.2. I'm running a perfectly stable, purely AOSP, unaltered 4.2 built from source.
If you don't own the device, don't talk like you know what goes on with it.
It is definitely worth the free upgrade.

If you just wanna emulate a Nexus... try AOKP JB Build 4. Softkeys (superior to ParanoidAndroid's in terms of similarity to Nexii) and even more.
Whatever, I'm on PA 1.5a (ICS) now and it emulates ICS tablets well enough.

Exactly however IMO I feel that if you have an upgrade why would you buy a phone that is already outdated instead of either getting the S3, GN2, or LG Nexus, just saying even a normal consumer would say so as well. As I have an upgrade I messed with gnex and don't see the need when my NS4G is. Getting 4.2 as well, and The S3 and GN2 features and build pretty much wrap it together. I don't understand why you would buy an outdated product that will most likely by end or middle of next year be completely obsolete and not supported. Whereas a GN2 will be supported to atleast 2014.
However if financially you can't afford then yes go right ahead. But the S3 would be more practical as it will drop in price in a few months to probably 149 or even 99.

The Galaxy Nexus is free for upgrade and still maintains itself very well against the newest hardware. It will be the most relevant device with software updates thanks to AOSP next to the new Nexus 4. Also, there is no GN2. Not sure what you were meaning to refer to with that.

Gnex won't possibly be given up so early will it? After all, Nexus One received Gingerbread all along and CM just stopped support very recently. Considering Gnex's dependable hardware I bet it'll last much longer, maybe to official Android 5.x and CM's Android 7+...

I think I will just wait and get the note 2 or other quad core super amazing phone. Most of what you guys have said is true. The only reason I was thinking to upgrade is because it was pretty much free.

Yeah. I fell in love with it, But most of my pants are too damn small for that big of a device. That lg optimus g is pretty sweet though. BUT, it is an LG with no removable battery..

Personally, I love the Gnex. I just upgraded to it from the old school Evo 4 g and even though its not a newly released phone, it is still an amazing device. I'm very glad I took the free upgrade cuz I'm pretty sure I won't "outgrow" this phone for quite a while. I just started getting bored with my Evo a couple months ago, and I got it at first release so I expect this one to last quite a while!

I've enjoyed my Galaxy Nexus. It is starting to show its age, but it still has great support, which is key to keeping the phone relevant. I wouldn't mind going with the next Nexus, if it has USB OTG support built in. That's the only reason I won't get the Nexus 4.

Upgraded from the Nexus S to the GN last year. Took me a while to get used to the larger screen (as compared to NS) but overall I love the GN. Custom Kernel and ROMS are fantastic. Great support from this community.

I got the S4 (w/ CM10.1), coming from a galnex - couldn't be happier. If you hold the devices side-by-side the screen on the S4 simply blows the galnex out of the water hands down - I didn't know what I was missing until I saw it in person.
Oh, and 2gb of ram - apps never lag and can stay in memory as long as they please. There's no reason to fiddle with custom kernels and roms because quite frankly it's fast as **** with stock CM10.1 and the included kernel.
Do yourself a favor, and upgrade to something better than a galnex. Good phone in it's day but it's starting to feel lackluster compared to newer devices.

I would love the AOSP S4 but I use Verizon (work buys and pays my phone bill). Unfortunately I fear that the GNex might be the last CDMA device. Overall the GNex has been the best phone I've ever owned. It is super reliable. Everything just works. I've only had to pop the battery like 2-3 times since it was released. I'm on AOKP now and with the transparency settings and other basic nav/status bar tweaks, it looks simply beautiful. Hopefully the Nexus 5 hits Verizon again, but until then, I am in no rush for another.

I'm with sprint and not have seen anything that will replace this phone. Sure I could get a one or an s4 and turn it into a "Google edition" but I really like a phone that was built specifically for stock. Having this has gotten me used to not having capacitive or physical keys, and I like it to be like that. That said stock "odexed" 4.1 and Franco's kernel has performance tits up.

Hmm i am thinking about buying a GNex...my other option is Xperia SP
Im giving more priority to GNex because of obvious reasons...
But one thing which holds me back is, is it future-proof anymore??
Dont wanna go for LG N4 since the price is bit high and some other reasons such as camera quality, glass on back (wont suit me ) and such...
So any opinions??

It'll go on after KLP, but not sure if it's with official updates, but that's what custom ROMs are for.

I thought Key Lime Pie was suppose to be for devices with lower specs?
Eg.
512mb RAM
I'd love to say there's nothing I'd like to ever change on GN running 4.1.2, but seeing how android has changed/improved in the last couple of years, it'll be very exciting to see what new ideas count out.

yes KLP is "rumoured" to be optimised for 512mb RAM devices
