I have a cisco WAPN610 access point. I have my desktop, google tv, xbox360 and my wdhdtvlive hooked up to it via wireless. I can't get my phone to obtain an ip address from this. I can connect to the router that is connected to my access point, but can't figure out why my phone won't connect. Google told me to try and use only B/G networks, but that didn't work.
Anyone have this same issue, or know of something I can try to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Under wireless networks on your phone does it see the access point? Just won't pick up an IP address??
Are you able to connect your phone to any other wireless networks?? Public Wifi at starbucks or McDonalds or something??
Could either be a bad WPA authentication or faulty wireless radio in your phone if other devices work.
Have you tried forgetting the network under wireless and networks then rebooting the phone just to be sure it's gone then re connect?

thanks for replying. I can access wifi at work and I can at my friends house. Whenever there is an open connection, it works like a charm, but for whatever reason, when I try to connect at home, it connects, but won't obtain an IP address. I think I can set it up manually and use a static IP. I was doing some googling at work and found something. Very confusing to say the least.
And yes, I have tried to forget it and all that.
thanks again for trying!
how many dhcp leases do you have setup? Depending on how many devices connect, i typically don't setup anymore than 10, but i would try increasing that. What encryption are you using? wpa2/wpa? Is it broadcasting in n or g or is it setup for mixed.

I'm not sure how many dhcp leases I have set up, but I only have 3 things connecting to the access point. My google TV, Wii, and my desktop. I had it set to broadcast mixed (b,g and N) but changed that to just b/g as another suggested. I am also using wpa2.

I had been successfully tethering via Bluetooth with WM6's Internet Sharing function, and was doing so in XP. Well we just took the Vista plunge and I'm having an issue. The Network Connections is showing my BT connection as "Local Only" meaning I can browse other pc's on the network, but I can't get to the internet. My WiFi connection to my router connects to the internet with no problem (The Wireless Connection shows "Local & Internet Access."
So I can not get out to the internet using my Tytn as my connection. I used the "Diagnose Problem" function in Vista, and it tells me that it cannot ping IP address 192.168.0.1. This is the IP address of my router. I don't want it to try to hit that IP address, but I can't find a way to tell it NOT to. All the settings in TCP/IP protocol are set to obtain an IP address automatically. But it seems that even while using BT as the connection, it still wants to get to my router first, even though I'm not using my WiFi at all. I even tried disabling the WiFi connection. Still the same issue.
Does anyone know what I can do to get the pc to stop trying to get my router first?
Thanks!
Tell me about it! It took me an age to find some drivers that worked with my bluetooth, I ended up using the Toshiba stack. After a lot of fiddling I got it working but when it runs it is very hit and miss and I have yet to transfer anything between devices let alone surf the net! Have you tried the bluetooth set up wizard?

The internet sharing function on the TyTn used 192.168.0.1
You are saying that your router is also using the same address range.
That is a no-no. Change the router address to 192.168.1.1, and I think you will see better results.
@boz - Actually I have no issues connecting to Vista via Bluetooth, and all profiles work great (I'm using the latest Broadcomm stack). My issue is in my Network Connections, not BT itself.
@Wildbill - the Tytn is not using 192.168.0.1. The PC is trying to ping that IP address because it is the address of my wireless router, and the first time I ever accessed the net with that pc, I did so via WiFi through my wireless router at home. Now, what I am trying to do though is get on the internet in my car, while nowhere near my wireless router. But my pc still seems to want to get to my router as though I'm trying to connect to the net via Wifi, when I'm actually just trying to get to it through my phone. The PC connects to the phone with no problem, and the phone is connected to the internet, But, my problem is that I can't figure out how to tell my pc to NOT look for my wireless router's IP address first.
BT DUN was so much easier with Cingular. I wish one of the cooks could figure out how to get the DUN profile back into WM6's BT stack.
I am really confused here.
When you use Internet Sharing on the TyTn, You are using the Tytn to allow other devices to access the Internet thru the TyTn.
When you do that, the TyTn hands out the address of 192.168.0.100 and it is the gateway, and the Gateway address is 192.168.0.1.
If you have your home router using the same address range, you have the PC that the Tytn is sharing it's internet connection with seeing to addresses within the same range, and two gateways with the same address - The PC LAN card is seing the router at 192.168.0.1 and the Buetooth PAN is seing the phone gateway at the same 0.1 That is what I was trying to say. It won't work like that.
Oh ok I see what you're saying. I was assuming that when it gave me the error, that it was trying to ping my router since I knew that to be my router's address. I did not realize that the Tytn used such a similar gateway.
To correct what I said in my first post: I said that it was trying to ping "IP address"... the exact error message reads "Connot Communicate with DNS Server 192.168.0.1"
It shows a nifty little diagram of the PC connected to the Cingular Bluetooth network connection, then another line connecting to a picture of earth, which they call "internet," but there is a red "X" over that line showing that it can't connect to internet. When you click on Diagnose problem, the above error message is what comes up.
So now, I need to make sure I understand what you are saying Wildbill. I see what you mean from your post... being that I don't connect to my router anymore, ever, at all (since the pc never comes out of the car anymore, and I'm way out of range of my wireless router even in the driveway) what do I need to change? Everything in TCP/IP protocol settings are set to obtain addresses automatically.
Another interesting thing to note is that I did not have this problem when I had XP in my car, and I connected to my wireless router with that pc too. But Internet sharing worked fine with it.
If the only things connected are the TyTn and a PC, then the PC will obtain an IP from the TyTn, and it will be 192.168.1.100. It will tell the pc that the gateway is 192.168.0.1, which is the TyTn. Since the TyTn has Bluetooth 2.0, I would speculate that you could connect additional BT devices to the same BT PAN, and the TytN would likely hand out additional addreses like 0.101, 0.102, etc. I have not tried that nor have I read about it.
See that's what I gathered too. So I don't know why it can't get out to the internet, unless it's that Vista just won't let it for some reason. This bugs me because Internet Sharing worked fine in XP, and BT DUN works fine with Vista with my other phone. Unfortunately I'm getting rid of that phone. If my Tytn had a DUN profile in the BT stack I'd be fine. Weak.
i tehering in wm6 vista using bluetooth ban
An issue I am having is:
I will connect my phone to wifi it will connect fine and tell me I am connected.
I could then later on go into the market and try download something I will have wifi bars but the item will pause download. I then come back out to check if my wifi is still connected and it will say authenticating but doesnt change so I then turn the wifi off and back on. It connects again this time when I go back into the market to download something it works fine.
Anyone else have this issue?
Hey guys still having this issue where my wifi looks like its connected but when i go to settings->wireless&networks-> wifi status will say authenticating with wifi.
It only happens me in my house with my router which is a zyxel router doesn't seem to happen in my parents house.
Is there anything I can do to stop this as its really annoying?

Try changing the authentication type of your router's settings. And if you use MAC security for your wifi, you can disable it.

Well it depends on your router but generally it's under Wireless->Security settings. Mine is with WPA-Personal authentication and TKIP algorithm.
Ok just to update this I have resolved the issue of my zyxel router by changing the security type from wpa-psk to wep.
Wep isnt as secure as wpa-psk but it suites consoles and portable devices better. Since I have changed I havnt been disconnected from the wireless.
I would say that your router has a problem with wpa authentication, I wouldn't recommend a wep authentication. If your wifi signal can be detected from the road where you live I could hack into it in about 10min and many other people plus there a custom antennas that can be made to detect signals and get better range etc.
I recommend you get a better router, something from netgear or belkin would do the job to keep your wifi safe and use wpa+wpa2 together with tkip+aes encryption.
This has been posted before, but I have found no solution in the thread.
As a network backup if/when internet fails me, I need to use the evo 4g to serve as the host for my client bridge (netgear with dd-wrt).
I've been using the client bridge successfully to connect to my Linksys router across the apartment.
I have to have a hard wired connection for my voip phone I use for work.
I match all the encryption, channel, ssid, etc. as I do for my normal network, but when I try to change everything over to match the cmod hotspot (not the wireless tether app which I have nothing but trouble with), it never works. All wired connections get a 169 IP from the router.
Google says that it needs to be in infrastructure mode, and it appears cmod7 uses that. I've tried a vast amount of different ssids, encryption methods, rebooting, etc.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Does a different rom work better for this method, or do I need a different wifi app besides the one embedded in cmod7?

I don't think the router is giving you 169 IP addresses, those are a default random IP address that the Windows TCP/IP is assigning itself by default, that was useful back in the workgroup and hub days before the internet. I am researching this for future use, and will check back.
Hi I can't connect with my wifi connection: i set the password, i press "connect", but nothing happens, no errors, but the wifi doesn't connect!
With other wifi's this phone works. What can I do?
Sounds like a router problem then.
If your router is broadcasting at a high channel, try setting the router to broadcast on a low channel, maybe 4, 5, or 6.

If you’re using a Linksys router, you’ll need to browse to the address of your router, which is probably set to http://192.168.1.1 but could be assigned to another address. You can run a quick ipconfig command at the command prompt to check.
In my case the address is different (because I changed it, of course), but what you’re looking for is the Default Gateway for your Wireless connection, and then go to http://<Default Gateway> in your browser. Enter in the password that you hopefully remember, and head to the Wireless –> Basic Wireless Settings tab.
I have spoken to many, many different amazon tech's regarding my amazon fire tv box (Not the stick), and no one can figure this out. I had a trendnet 732br router that would not connect via wpa/wpa2 psk. Tech told me router was incompatible. I bought a tp-link ac1750 router, same problem, but could connect via "open" network, and WPA/WPA2 PSK using TKIP encryption, but not AES. Tech told me to get a "name brand" router. I just spent 300.00 on a Linksys EA9200 AC3200 router. Can connect wired, WEP, open network, but STILL cannot connect vi WPA/WPA2 PSK. Have latest updates, stock firmware, latest update, and was told that an amazon developer would be calling me back. I tried the advanced setting, and can get tit to say connected when entering IP, DNS, gateway, etc, but it then gives me an error at the homepage saying network is not connected. When trying to connect vi WPA/WPA2 PSK, I get "Saved", "Obtaining IP addess", "Authenticating", or "avoided poor internet connection. Here's soething else that's weird. I CAN connect via WPA on my old linksys WRT54G router flashed with dd-wrt, but my speeds are horrible on it. ANY ideas???? Thank you in advance.

Never had this issue with aftv but it's interesting. I think I already know the answer to this, being an aftv user, but on a computer like linux, what you might try is to connect without the encryption then reactivate after connecting. I'm not sure thats an option on aftv but might be a way to do it on the router? Good luck. That's gotta be frustrating.
BTW--if you're into open source router software like dd-wrt, that might be the best place to go for advice. They'd probably know better than amazon.
I've had the exact same problem, are you using a 5GHz network?
if so change the channel to 40+36, that should fix things. I have no idea why but it worked for me.

Since it connects in the open, try a guest account with simple "password."
