I went through "root 2.3.4,downgrade,and s-off" and got to the point where I launch the bootloader in HBOOT. It reads the file and then says I have an older version and fails. I am confused because the PB31IMG I used I downloaded from here. And what version is older? The 2.2 or the HBOOT?
I have S-ON
Android 2.3.4
HBOOT 0.92
Software # 4.08.605.2
Baseband 2.15.10.07.07
SLCD Screen
Thanks...I have been at this since yesterday. I didn't know it was going to be this much of a pain in the ass to do this

Somewhere along the way you either missed a step or something didnt work right. It gives the to new firmware error because on a stock phone you cant downgrade os versions. The steps in the thread should have made downgrading possible though. I would start from the begining and try again.
Tried 3 times and always get the same thing...will try again tomorrow.

I have this strange problem.
I did the s-off using the alpharev. Once that was done, I experienced random reboots and phone lockups.
So, I decided to revert back and used the 2.29.405.2 ruu to get back to stock htc image.
Now, I am unable to root my desire using un-revoked. The phone freezes after doing the hboot and pre-boot sequence. I tried downgrading my hboot and I continue to experience the same problem.
Is there a way to get the phone to factory conditions ? I use a MAC. Can I use the RUU exe instead of the PB99IMG.zip ?
Has anyone faced a similar problem before ?
Any leads/pointers would be appreciated.
And yes, I am not a newbie and can find me way out through the adb forests !
Thanks
Shyam
bootloader should not change things about rooting.
have u checked hboot what does it tell now?
Thread moved to Q&A.
0.93.0001 S-ON is the hboot version that I get.
RUUs are Windows applications. You could just get the 2.29.405.5 PB99IMG and flash that to go back to the latest stock ROM
I am unable to root the stock 2.29.405.2 using unrevoked too !! The phone freezes after doing the pre-boot sequence.
Shyam
Are you using the current version of unrevoked or just some old version you found on your harddisk? Older versions could not root froyo based roms.
€: Perhaps they also patched something in 2.29.405.2 that prevents this rooting method.
I've had no issues with 2.29.405.2 using unrEVOked 3.22 - not tried since going back to 2.29.405.5
Hey Guys,
I've got an HTC Desire, from 3 - it came with all the Three UK stuff on it (like the boot screen etc), but I rooted it, and flashed it with OXYGEN MOD, the latest one...but I'm now sending my phone in for a small repair job, and need to reflash it to stock.
I've made the goldcard etc, and am trying to flash it with an RUU H3G_UK rom, which I downloaded (RUU_Bravo_H3G_UK_1.22.771.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127568_signed.exe). However, when I try to update it using PB99IMG.zip method, it says:
Code:
'Main Version is older!'
'Update Fail!'
'Do you want to reboot device?'
'<VOL UP> Yes'
'<VOL DOWN> No'
Any ideas as to what I should do?
Cheers. Phil.
Oh, and I thought I should post this too:
Code:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.00001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.11.05.14

Yep this happens because you will not be able to downgrade the hboot with this official update, and because it is an old 3 rom, it contains an old bootloader.
You will either have to find a newer 3 rom with something like 0.93 bootloader or a newer wwe rom(3/htc won't care).
You might also be able to somehow flash an older bootloader using an s-off bootloader and fastboot, and then run the update afterwards, but that is way too complicated.
Which part of this?:
Code:
RUU_Bravo_H3G_UK_1.22.771.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127568_signed.exe
...contains the HBOOT version?
It doesn't, but the branded official roms are always that old, and as the rom version is 1.xx i know it is an android 2.1 rom, which means hboot 0.75 or 0.80.
Also your error message state the problem quite clearly.
And to clarify my last answer.. No you will not be able to find a 3 branded rom with a 0.93 hboot, so go for a wwe instead.
What about this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Don't use that - your Desire didn't come on that 3 UK RUU so no idea how it'll behave as you have a PVT4 Desire
There isn't a newer RUU and those old ones are for AMOLED Desire's only - you're kinda stuck
That might and might not work. It depends on the hboot included. The topic you link to uses a hboot version 0.83, because it works with all slcd phones as well. So if the 3 ruu contains 0.83 as well, this should work, and if it doesn't, you wont be able to install it anyway.
Now for gods sake please listen to me when i tell you that neither 3 nor htc will care whether your phone contains a branded rom.. They might not even care if it is rooted. So please just flash the damn wwe 2.2 rom...
My last post in here i think you get what i think you should do and i cant/wont help you risking doing something stupid.
Good news fellows
I flashed it using this:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed
and it worked no problem, I'm now back running Froyo 2.2 woop. cheers!
I've always used the .76 Hboot since xHausx posted it last year.
I've got a replacement 2.16 Hboot Hardware version 004 2.3.3 model that I just used Revolution IO to S-off, root, and flash my custom rom.
Is it safe to replace the Rev. Hboot with the .76 Eng Hboot that I'm accustomed to and can I use the same PC36IMG that I originally used?
Thanks
No. You can not downgrade hboot since 2.02 was released. Sorry.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Actually, I think the fact that Revolutionary IO has given us S-off and a new Rev Bootloader would be enough to prove you wrong.
I used Rev IO to root my Evo3D and then went on to replace that bootloader with the Eng bootloader for that device without a problem.
I haven't heard mention of anyone doing this on the 4G and that is the reason I am asking.
I'm curious myself actually...anyone try it yet?...or do I have to be first?
I would say it is possible. Did you check out this thread? Maybe you can use the same methods for 2.16

First from the thread: Find out your hardware version: From the home screen, (on a sense based ROM) go to menu > settings > about phone > hardware information, if your phone is hw 004 don't even read this thread.
I'd heed this gigantic warning from that post:
If you're doing this on late hardware models 003/004 (with new partitions) then you should stop reading now and probably not do it. I'm not sure if the new recovery can fix up your stuff after you do this
If your phone falls into the "safe" catagory, then yes it is possible to downgrade using the method above. I even did it myself from 2.16.0001 -> 0.76. Requires a hexedit of the HBOOT header to trick the version information to allow the downgrade if you have the 2.16.0001 HBOOT.
worked for me changed header to 6.16.1002. included updated zip. i am on hw 0003. rename PC36IMG.zip thanks to thefredelement for guide and orig file
after that flash any hboot you want or you can put a new ruu and use s-on tool to unroot
how can i check my hboot version ?
thank you
i tried the volume down and power up and didn't bring anything up?
I have a Wildfire that I S-OFF'ed and rooted a while back. It originally had 3 UK firmware, although the phone was unlocked for all providers.
I remember having to downgrade the hboot to 1.01.0001 to get revolutionary to work. Unfortunately I cannot remember the exact steps I took to S-OFF and Root it, but they weren't anything out of the ordinary. I recently had to S-ON the phone and reflash the original firmware as I thought I'd have to return the phone to the shop.
Now, I'm trying to redo the whole process again, I want S-OFF and Root but I'm not having any luck. Currently, the phone is:
Hboot 1.01.001
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband 13.45.55.24H_3.35.15.31
Software V.1.37.405.1
Revolutionary won't do it, Unrevoked won't either. I've tried to both upgrade and downgrade the roms with RUU exe's but its unsuccessful. I've used both Windows and Linux so it's definitely not a driver issue; the phones are recognised. I can flash ClockWorkRecovery, but am getting a failed NAND flash error at times.
I'm sure I'm missing something as it was a real breeze last time. I'm really frustrated, especially as I'm lumbered with this crap firmware. I want my CyanogenMod back!!!!
Something that caught my eye was the firmware version: "2.1-update1". Is this the same as 2.1?

You can give my guide a go, it's in my sig. I've included very detailed steps.
Edit - I have managed to gain s-off once again, make sure to use the latest ruu
problems I had where revolutionary failed at zerging cmd
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035 the buzzdowngrade pack from here did not s-off
I ended up restoring from a different ruu instead of the tesco rom, from where the phone was from
RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed
Then revolutionary worked perfectly.
Hey guys, thanks in advance for any and all help.
Here is the situation. I have a work provided HTC Evo that I rooted forever ago and now I have to return the phone to my employer so they can turn it in for upgrades. So, I need to unroot my phone.
Here is the problem:
I got the phone back to S-On and went to flash the stock PC36img file on the rooting/unrooting page in the forum and I am getting the error "MAIN VERSION IS NEWER"
I am trying to find the version that I need for my phone so here is the information I think you need:
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 2.15.00.11.19
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.17-gee557fd
[email protected] #15
Software Number: 3.70.651.1
PRI Version: 1.90_003
Hardware Version: 0004
HBOOT - 2.10.0001
Radio 2.15.00.11.19
Also, it has just begun power cycling so this may get interesting.....

Try getting S-OFF again, then flash the PC36IMG.zip again.
Same issue (sort of)
Hello....
I am having this same problem. Except I somehow managed the new 5.07(or whatever it is) OTA and yet I have hboot 2.10 and the same radio as mentioned above. I tried using unrevoked to get S-OFF again so I could approach this another way, but I just get an error message from the reflash utility that tells me the root failed and my firmware may be too new.
Originally I flashed the unrevoked s-on utility, then I got that message "MAIN VERSION IS TOO NEW". Stupidly, instead of researching it further, I just found a zipped version of 4.67 and flashed it with Amon_Ra, which left my hboot as ver 2.10 . After this, I did an update through the settings menu (This has worked for me before to get back to something that looked like it had never been rooted) and now I'm stuck with the new OTA and an old hboot and I get an error every time I try to run an exe RUU, and I have tried all of them from 1.46 to 4.67.
Help.
