I'm thinking of HTC Mozart for its best (?) camera. But in "also like the LG Optimus 7th
Any suggestions?
Note: I live in Sweden and we only Have 4 devices to choose from, Htc Mozart, Trophy, LG Optimus 7 & the Samsung Omnia 7.
Thanks!
Im in the US and have had an HTC surround (similar to the other HTC devices) and am currently using a Samsung Focus (just like the Omnia 7 in a different shell), and I would say to go with the Omnia 7 just for the screen. Its amazing and the colors of the tiles really pop. I especially love how the black makes it blend into the bezel so you can see where the screen ends and the bezel begins

As someone who owns all the U.S. released devices I sincerely advise against HTC WP7 devices. They're typically slower than the others and have the worst battery life. That said it depends on what you're more concerned with. The Optimus 7 has amazing battery life and the Omnia 7 has a great screen. Whichever of those two is more important to you jump on that device.
Due to the onboard storage, the Omnia 7 is pretty much the fastest WP7 device out there at loading and resuming applications.
Very responsive touch screen as well.
The downsides? It's not upgradable, so you're stuck with the 8Gb storage space. Also, you get colour banding on fine gradients when you look at web pages and photos.
Personally, I love the device and wouldn't swap it for anything else. I can live with the smaller storage space.

I have to agree. The Omnia 7 is by far the best device in Europe with WP7. I had the HD7, the Mozart and LG E900. At least i got stuck with the Omnia 7 with 16 GB of Memory. Its well produced and looks way better than the ugly LG device. In terms of speed LG and Omnia 7 are equal. In case of OEM Apps LG outperforms HTC and Samsung by far.
Best way is to test the Devices yourself in store.
Thanks everyone, i liked the Htc Mozart but as you guys say, the battery life sucks and i've heard the display aint that good either.
LG Optimus 7 is kinda nice but i dont know.
The Omnia 7 is just so freaking ugly!! Don't you guys agree?
Don't know what to choose, great display or great battery?

The omnia 7 isn't that attractive but it holds together well. You dont have to worry about a 2 foot drop shattering your phones existence as you do with the mozart. The display on it is amazing especially in dark themes since the SAMOLED screens dont light up the black pixels at all and the battery life is nothing to complain about, just not as good as the optimus 7
I would go with the Omnia 7.
Excepting that I want more Memory - highly recommend my Omnia 7 - in balance the memory trade off is worth it (if you can find a 16 GB version I'd pay the extra if buying again).
Sent from my Omnia with only 8GB using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Omnia7:
it's the most beautiful WP7 device available, has the best screen and the best camera (Mozart may have more MP but the photos aren't good).
I use a program that's called Spotify, streaming music for 7$/month, it's coming to WP7 soon so i won't really need 16 GB storage.
I guess ill have to think about the Omnia 7 then.. haha
Thanks everyone!

just your opinion...check the WP Benchmark thread. My HD7 outperforms pretty much every other phone on there I the CPU section and even beat your beloved DVP in CPU and Memory ;-) NoDo has really given the slower MicroSD phones a shot in the arm it seems...

wp7 is better designed for samoled (lots of black in the U.I) on othe lcd screens it does,nt looks tht good btw i own a samsung focus n my cousin hav a lg quantum n my phone looks far more better then my cousin,s lg ... (sorry for my bad english)
Omnia 7 for sure. If I were you I'd purchase it from Germany though as you can currently pick it up for around 2500,- rather than the 4000,- or even 5000,- they cost in Sweden. Not to mention you get 16GB instead of the standard 8GB.
Holy **** guys!
Omnia 7 looks like a piece of wood with a screen!
Take my advice.. Trophy 7 have the perfect screen size, it's beautiful and have a nice grip. Try it (;

I agree, the samsung omnia/ focus/ galaxy s line have all looked kinda cheap to me. Nice screen, but other than that, looks quite tacky.
From what I heard on the podcasts, the trophy has the bast camera of the wp7 line, so if that is what is important to you, get it.

Do a search on preis.de. I know some people have purchased from ES-Mobilefunk, but can't vouch for them myself. I've used mp3player.de which price matched the cheapest alternative on the list.
If you by insurance mean warranty I'm not sure - I do believe Samsung Sweden will honor a European wide warranty though, but check to make sure. If indeed you mean insurance, just insure it like you would any other handset.

You seriously cannot put the Omnia7 and the Focus in the same category. One is all plasticy and feels cheap while the other is all metal and feels real sturdy.
As for the Trophy having the better camera, well, it may be the best HTC has to offer, but that really doesn't say much considering how bad the HD7 is or how the Mozart doesn't really give better pictures with it's 8MP camera.
Wow, all I can say is wow. I mean, I didn't think wp7 could get too definitively smoother. I have a titan and a dvp that I use as my two daily drivers but after using this for about 40 minutes I'm just wowed. It flies. I just ordered a micro-sim so I can use it and I won't do a full review til I have this thing as loaded as my dvp. Any questions? Want any hot pics? What do you want to know that hasn't been released thusfar.

yes
lemme buy one off you =)
I'm definitely interested in this phone so I have some questions (and yes, we want photos ).
How much did it cost you ?
Does it feel good in the hand ?
Is it a worthy upgrade from the 1st gen devices ? (I want the Lumia and I have LG Optimus 7)
Is it really that smoother ? I feel like my Optimus is aslmost perfect in terms of speed after the mango upgrade
Free as a dev
Feels outstanding and the case that comes in box also feels high quality if you like cases. The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to just because in used to a much larger screen.
Its a hell of an upgrade and with all of the additional benefits Nokia will be getting I wouldn't use another oem (though LG is admittedly pretty good quality.) Its notably smoother than the other devices. Even the titan. The battery life is also pretty awesome so far.
Any suggestions on phones for a comparison video. I own a ridiculous amount of phones, most of the high end ones including a gs2 and a 4s

strange a lot of reviews have stated completely the opposite with regards to performance versus the titan...let's see a side by side of the titan and the lumia 800. See if you can grab some other things I'm very interested
Oh and about that buying...
Thanks for the answers. One more question. My Optimus has very annoying delay between pushing the power button and waking up (around 1 second). Does the lumia have this "problem" ? I haven't really researched if this is the case with every other WP7 device so I'm sorry if it's a stupid question.
Won't be selling mine. I have new daily drivers.
Once my apps are all installed and stuff I'll run a side by side with the titan.
I'm loving Nokia drive.

What's the cpu speed, ram, battery size ?
Does it have dlna, hdmi out, good bluetooth audio, usb3, good flash, fast shutter, and most importantly, and death grip ?
Would you please advise which languages are available in your dev machine?

How significant have you found the keyboard size change? It's one of the things I've been concerned about if I go from a 4.3" screen to the 800. I was hoping for the focus S because of that, but it's not looking like that will be in the UK any time soon. Will I need to find people with tiny fingers to tap out my texts for me?
Can I ask how you find the screen with photographs? I noticed how vibrant the colours looked when I saw a device which is great, but just wanted to check it doesn't over-saturate images for when I'm showing photography from on-line albums to clients.
Thanks for any info. Really glad you're enjoying your new phone
Ian
Does it have an equalizer?
Hey
first of all congratulations I'm thinking of buying the Lumia 800 as well, as it makes a real solid impression. Nokia drive is a major deal maker here Is the navigation fast and fluent? Or does it lag from time to time? I had the impression (from some videos) that the 3d view is not perfectly smooth... How about reception. How is it compared to other phones? Could you provide low-light and sun-set photos as well? There were also some mentions about a "flare" effect in some situations, where you could see a red reflection on photos. Have you had this problem as well? An answer would be highly appreciated
Regards
Chris
I have a question to OP:
Did Word Mobile changed in functionality in any way or it's the same as NoDo?

At least the Asian ones, Chinese (Traditional/Simplified), Japanese, Korean.
Henry, it has 3 Asian languages but I can't read them because they're in Asian text o-0
doministry, aside from speed and responsiveness, no. The overall office integration is majorly improved though.
Otherworld, 3 days now and its honestly just as easy as the titan. Its an easy adjustment.
ChrisKringel, navigation is outstanding to me thusfar. It was a little slow with the initial startup but now its great.
Vangrieg, nope.
Hi all i've been eyeing on the nexus for ...hmmm 6months or so ? i loved it's screen and m minimalistic design , after consulting my dad a few days ago he agreed to get one for me after my exams so i've done my fair share of research on the phone and i doubt it will fit my criteria for a phone ....so here are my worries
1. Transferring files from computer , i heard Nexus don't support usb mass storage , is that true? i have a ton of music waiting to be sent to my phone when i get it and if it can't transfer via computer then i might find a phone elsewhere ( if it can't use usb mass storage how do you sent roms to your phone )
2. Volume for me music and video sharing with my friends are very important blasting songs from the speaker or watching a funny video but the dilemma is the speaker is horrible i heard from a fair share of articles and videos which i am a little worried
3. Battery , many reviews have been criticising the nexus's battery saying that it hardly lasts a day for them and the 1750mAh battery just ain't enough is that true ?
4. Camera , 5 megapixels ....is it enough? i've seen some sample shots and they are far than impressive ....the quick capture ability is pretty cool to be honest
this phone is a major buy for me since i've been eyeing on it for so long and it cost quite a lot ....
oh and here are my criteria for a android smartphone
1. Speed , the processor should be quick enough for everyday use and some decent gaming
2. 3G and 4G not needed , being only 17 i cant afford 3G so connectivity ain't really important for me
3. Community, i love discussing problems , exchanging roms with my android smartphone something nexus excels at! ( i love miui JB!! )
4. Uniqueness , my phone must stand out from the crowd , looking special and eye catching the minimalistic design and it's rarity in my area makes the nexus an ideal candidate
5. Price the nexus has dropped a total of RM700 since the day it reached malaysian shores the price was originaly RM2099( 675USD ) and now it's RM1300 ( 418 USD ) which really made my father consider getting it
so is the nexus perfect for me ? or should i look somewhere else?
1. you can still transfer files but its in MTP mode, which is abit like how you transfer files from digital cameras. its abit weird but it works just fine most of the time.
2. audio not too bad and you can get custom kernels to boost the audio for you if you would root your phone.
3. battery is fine, lasts a day easily for me, about 4 hours of on screen time on average.
4. camera is decent. not the best out there, but the quick snapping makes up for that and they still look nice
and the phone meets all your other criteria grab the google play version with is 3G only and you're set
Just a thought... if you're using your phone a lot to blast music and video to multiple friends you may want to just spend a couple bucks and get some speakers you can plug in. The volume is alright on the Gnex but you are not going to be hosting a dance party with it.
I noticed you said you didn't want 3g or 4g. Check with your carrier to make sure they won't require you to have a data package with the nexus.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
to be honest i don't know what are carriers ... all i know is there are ads in the papers with nexus price rather cheaply but have to be paid back at a monthly rate , anyways i am getting my nexus straight from a retialer , going to the shop and just buy it
Speaker sound is low even with kernel tweaks. Luckily I usually hook it to external speakers.
Camera is not good. Only takes good photos when outside in sunlight. I wouldn't say its about it being 5 megapixels (there are plenty good 5 mega pixel cameras out there), but about the flash and camera lense. There is almost zero shutter lag though, which is a plus. All in all I hate the camera on this device. One of the worst cameras I have had.
Software is great, development is great, battery is great on my GSM Nexus, performance is great with Jelly Bean.
Camera, screen tinge and grain (can be sort of fixed with root and screen adjustments), and speaker are all below average IMO.
Zero shutter lag feature was removed by Google in one of the latter updates. You might be able to do it with a custom ROM, but if you want to stay on the latest stock you can forget about that feature. Apart from that the camera is alright but it's nothing special.
Battery life depends on use. Since you are planning to not use 3G you should be able to get a pretty good battery life out of it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
so the speaker is bad? cant any kernel fix this issue?
is there any decent alternative to nexus?

It really depends on if you are going to buy a GSM phone or CDMA phone. I prefer the GSM Nexus over the Verizon or Sprint one. The Nexus would be the best phone to get for development because its easy to root and has a ton of roms and developments. But it is an older phone and there is a new Nexus coming out soon, so development may slow down a tad.
I don't really know what other phone would be a good alternative because I don't have another one. People seem to like the GSM Samsung Galaxy S2, S3 and Note.
I really liked HTC phones in the past, and they usually have great cameras, but they have been kind of iffy lately. Still the One X might be worth checking out. There is no sdcard or removable battery on that phone though.
Nexus is one of the best IMO but has some faults that I will make sure my next phone doesn't have.
I thought u already bought the phone. No wonder i havent seen u around. Nevermind that, here some info..
if u buy the phone straight from a retailer, there is no need to choose to have data plan or not. In malaysia, it all depends on the carrier(sim kad, celcom, digi, maxis). And u will get the gsm version, malaysian always use gsm.
**Be noted that first time turning on the phone, quickly(really quick) turn off data usage under setting or use a sim kad with no kredit, if not, it will auto connect to the net and ur kredit will be used A LOT!
1. You wont notice any lag at all with this phone. Even if there is, it rarely happen and it dont lag much.
2. The battery is great, u wont be using any 3g, so the battery will probably last u the whole day. My average battery life:
Wifi on: onscreen time-around 4-5 hours
3g on: onscreen time-around 3-4 hours
**this is onscreen time, however, the idle time with this phone is amazing, i never have to worry if i go out with the battery not full.
I wont recommend an S2, the speaker, camera and hardware is almost the same as nexus, but more laggier. My friend has one, and his phone always hang and lag like an xperia x8(no custom rom). Plus, S2 price is RM1300+, why pay more for a crappier phone when u can have a better one at a lower price. Im not being biased here but this is my observation..

1. For my needs, it is better than any carrier subsidized phone. The dev community provides more than the carriers, plus you get to learn at the
same time.
2. I plan to keep mine at least another 12 months. I'm usually slow to move on, and this phone satisfies most of my needs. Keep in mind how fast technology changes.
3. I have Gta 3 on it. I did not have any issues until i found someone's save file here on xda. Now I get the occasional lag, but nothing i really mind, since i only play from time to time.
4. Well think of release dates is all you need to do. Technology is ever changing. But to have a community like this phone has and google providing factory images and latest updates is pretty huge.
5. Those phones are inferior in my opinion, because they're locked up, and require more to free them.
6. Buttery smooth.

The problem is, this kind of question has so many variables. What is important to you?
The latest software? Get any relatively new Nexus.
The latest hardware? Nexus 4, Galaxy S3, any other new high-end phone.
Price? This Nexus, any other 1-year phone.
Stock Android? Any Nexus.
That's why you're getting so many nonsense answers; they're an unanswerable questions.

This. In a sense it all really trickles down to how you want to use your phone. IMO, if you haven't bought one yet, look for newer devices. The GNex was released late 2011. There have been a lot of changes in the smartphone industry since that time. If you buy one now, you'll realize how much difference there is between these newer devices and the good ol' GNex. Support would also probably dwindle as time passes by. But that's just my take on this matter. If you have the resources to buy a newer device, I'd say go for the newer ones.
For example, I'd come in and say "wait for the for the flexible display devices, they're getting out this year"

Then it's okay for you probably. But only you know if you're happy with the specs. I would find someone who actually owns one and look at it. But even then, who knows if you're setting it up the same. Maybe I run something that causes my phone to be slower than you would? There's so many variables...

Hello everyone,
I decided on buying my very first tablet... After buying my first Samsung Galaxy phone, I have come to absolutely love Amoled displays.
So I have only 2 choices I guess?
So what do you guys think? I've done loads of research and I just can't decided because:
Tab s is Cheaper, better battery, bigger screen But slower SOC.
Tab S2 is faster and i like the portrait orientation with that 4:3 ratio (these are the only advantages imho since i genuinely don't care about the looks, the camera nor the thinness of it because the tablet is going to be in it's case all the time).
So I cant decide if I should go for the old and save a few bucks (euros actually ) or go for the new one that is like 20% faster.
I forgot to mention that I will mainly be using it for ebooks and reading, and maybe a few movies now and then.
Oh and lastly I will be installing cyanogenmod immediately since I never liked bloatware.
Soo... Do share your thoughts with me guys,
Thanks in advance.

I recommend the Tab S 10.5 based on your statement.
Here's a video comparing both:
Really helpful video.
Thanks mate.
Is the performance of that exynos 5420 decent for viewing large PDF's?
Cause from my research many people tend to complain about the tab S' performance.
Or is that associated with the touchwiz

I have been using the Tab S 10.5 for a while now, and it is terribly slow. The reasons for the slowness are very little RAM which cripples the OS (3GB) and general Android application awkwardness and slugginess (designed for phones not for every day use). Both Galaxy tabs have 3GB RAM so you're out of luck.
Using the tablet to do simple, every day tasks, there is a tremendous difference with the laptop. I know you said you only want to watch movies or read books, but still I think a small laptop running Windows or Apple iOS would beat the pants out of any tablet. The only difference is the price, tablets can be much cheaper than laptops. But I regret having bought the tablet because it cannot really do simple things without extreme awkwardness.
The only major plus is I am using it also as a phone (I have the T805) which is something no laptop can do (that I am aware of).
As you said I also have the tablet in a case/ book cover , complete with keyboard and mouse, so it is like a small laptop anyway.
If you have not bought it yet, try to see if there are 10"-11" laptops that could do everything you need and so much better.
Although I don't have the tab s, yet, I'll have to disagree with you friend.
3gb of RAM should be more than enough.
My galaxy s4 has 2 gb and I'm multitasking like crazy... Never ever felt like I need more RAM. But of course I have cm12.1 on it.
My concern with the tab s is the processor not the RAM.

Wow, 3 GB of RAM is little for you... What simple tasks you want to do, that Galaxy tab s is too slow for you? Mine is really fast, enough to replace laptop. Maybe you are not familiar with Android and don't know how to maintain the device fast.

since you mentioned cyanogenmod.... go with the good old tab s 10.5... tab s 2 got nothing develop yet.... :silly:
You are either an 16:10 or 4:3 person, if you watch more video get the S1 10.5" 16:10 if you browse the internet mostly get the S2 9.7" 4:3 Version, if you don't care, I don't either.

I totally agree the tabs 10.5 fast with stock and even faster when rooted. I own the SM-T807P by Sprint variant. I just wish for a couple of custom Roms .
Guys, thanks for all your help.
I went and got my self a nice bronze t805...
I managed to last about 30 mins with bloatwiz.. So now I'm on PAC man Rom...Who cares about Knox and warranties and what not...
I really recommend this Rom. It completely transformed my tab, and now it's much faster.
Cheers lads
