I want to root my HTC Wildfire....my warranty is going to be over in a month.
Questions-
1. Do I need to install a ROM after rooting?
2. Which ROM is good for me? ( I want my phone to work smooth without any lags and use the "Live wallpaper". I want rest of the things to be same)
3. Can I root my phone offline by just downloading softwares and writing the commands?
4. If I get my phone bricked can i recover it?
THANK YOU THANK yOU
Tell us some info first.
Turn the phone off
Hold Volume- and power
Tell us what it says next to HBOOT: ; and if it says S-ON anywhere.

hi...looking at ur specifications i think u can follow how i went around bcoz even i had the same specifications...look, unless you either s-off or unlock your bootloader you cant go ahead rooting ur phone..follow the below method which i find is easiest::::
#1 unlock ur bootloader using htcdev method(www.htcdev.com) (remember this will void ur warranty).plz do watever is mentioned step by step on the site....
#2 after u unlock bootloader u will still have s-on but ur device is now rootable...
#3 root ur device using unlockroot one click tool (www.unlockroot.com) and u will have root access superuser installed..congrats u r now rooted
#4 installing clockworkmod recovery on your phone via fastboot method (plz dont use rom manager to install cwm recovery as it just provides a temp recovery)..just do it via fastboot method (scan xda forum on how to do it via fastboot)....done ...u r ready to flash a custom rom...
#5 download any custom rom for wildfire (ex:cyanogenmod 7.1.0.1 buzz)and place it on sd card...turn off ur phone and reboot into bootloader and select recover,,ur device will now boot into recovery..then select install zip from sd option and choose the rom file...congrats ull now boot into a custom rom...(dont forget to backup ur existing rom )..happy rooting and flashing...
can u please explain me how to do step 4 and step 5........do I need my phone plugged In the computer while performing step 4 and 5? what's "fastboot method", what's "clockwork mod recovery".....please explain.....

clockworkmod recovery is a recovery as the name speaks of it in which you can backup ur data and restore it whenever you like...
look ,, as i said b4 flashing a custom rom u need to install this cwm recoveryvia fastboot (refer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207331 )
later download cyanogenmod 7.1.0.1 buzz from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207331 and store it on sd card
turn off ur fone and reboot into bootloader (volume down+power button)select recovery and ur fone will take u to cwm recovery choose install zip from sd option and after that select ur cyanogenmod rom fileand later do a data reset using same cwm recovery,,reboot ur fone and it will boot into cm 7...congrats ur done ...(optional: download and install google apps)

Edit: first choose wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and also wipe dalvik cache from the advanced menu or you'll just get stuck in a bootloop.
Then choose install zip from sd option and after that select ur cyanogenmod rom fileand later do a data reset using same cwm recovery,,reboot ur fone and it will boot into cm 7...congrats ur done ...(optional: download and install google apps)

look ,,,i wud like to say that trying to s-off ur phone using revolutionary is just a waste of time bcoz revolutionary does't support your hboot version(i.e. 1.01.0002)
therefore i don't want u to struggle behind that.
-one more option u have is downgrading ur hboot version to 1.01.0001 using buzzdowngrade but its a bit time consuming and i cannot guarantee 100% success in it bcoz i've seen ppl getting stuck in the final step of the process (even i could'nt succeed)..
-so if u want to go ahead i advice u to do it my way(i.e unlocking bootloader)
-second thing is that the link u've given contains 2 methods of installing cwm recovery #1 via revolutionary:this method cant be used by u as ur hboot version is not supported by it..#2 via rom manager: plzz don't try this ..it has been stated in so many thread not to use this method as it just gives a temp recovery(even i've xperienced it)..plz do it via fastboot as i stated earlier...hope this clears all ur doubt's...

This has helped me and many others..
Do jus as it says.. u wont need to do anything extra..
Njoy..!!!
HIT THANKS IF I HELPED U..!!
I found the revolutionary method the easiest. it was pretty straight forward, took about 30 mins. i've done it 2ice now.
this is what i did
☻ Run an RUU for wildfire.
- Download top one (RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.2_R_C_Radio_13.45.55.24_ 3.35.15.19_release_141106_signed)
- Connect your phone to PC and run RUU
- This will downgrade your phone OS to eclair (android 2.1)
- Let it do the bizniss and when it boots and says finished on your PC, you will have a basic looking phone. (but dont worry)
- If it doesnt work, find an earlier RUU and run it
☻ Un-connect phone from PC
☻ then look up "how to root wildfire with revolutionary" on youtube
- Revolutionary will gain you S-OFF (but not give you the super user app)
☻ Launch Unrevoked 3 (unrevoked.com)
☻ Connect Phone to PC
☻ Let it do the bizniss, it will do a few reboots and then say Done on your PC
☻ enjoy being rooted

He already gave you the link, it's right there in the comment
Just go to recovery mode, then "mounts and storage", then from there choose the last option (can't remember the name, it was something like "USB storage"), then connect your phone to your PC and place the ROM onto it and flash it afterwards
EDIT: Or, if you want a custom Sense-based ROM, I'd highly recommend this one, though it can be tricky to install, if you don't follow the instructions to the letter.
the recovery option is not working as well..whenever i select the recovery option it just again shows me that annoying white screen with that htc logo..
Did you even install CWM? If you didn't, you're pretty screwed

I think you can try pushing a custom recovery (CWM) onto your phone using an app on your PC, though I can't remember which one (it was one of those apps that root your phone automatically, but I just don't know which one it was).
EDIT: I think it was this one.
EDIT 2: Also, try searching the index for a solution, especially the General Guides section.

The phone is not mine, so i don't know the exact things that were done on the phone but here is some info.
My friend had 2.3.5 gingebread with sense 3.0 and downgraded to 2.3.3 with sense 2.1 .He used the advanced ace hack tool for all this.it said root , s-off and then rebooted and then it stayed at the htc logo from then.
Reboot the phone into recovery (battery pull, hold volume up + power). Then mount the sd card from CWM & copy a ROM over. Do a full wipe (data, cache, Dalvik) and install the ROM, you should be able to get it working again

But if you look at the op he wrote down the stats and it says s-on. Unless Im mistaken it should be s-off. However, the hboot version seems to be right.

That is why u are stuck...you are still S-ON...now you know that it is always better to check before doing something.
Anyway, you are not bricked, half bricked, soft bricked or anything bricked at all..you are just stuck.
You have two choices:
If you didn't factory reset the phone (that will erase the usb drivers from it) you can just plug the phone from the splash screen and run the hack kit to have the job done
Find a RUU for your phone, flash it and when the device is fully functional then re run the Hack Kit
Both will let you with a fully working phone. I would choose the second one just to make sure that everything is working...hope it helps.
i wasn't the one that used the tool so no drivers are installed on my computer...it was also factory reset.
Where can i find a RUU for the dhd?

I'm guessing that since your bootloader is unlocked, you should be able to flash 4ext or CWM recovery through fastboot (search), and then flash SuperSU.zip (from Chainfire's thread) through recovery. That'll put Superuser.apk and the su binary in the system partition and give you root access.

flash it used fastboot (adb tools)
1.Turn off your phone
2. Hold the volume down button + power until you boot to a white screen.
3. Use the volume rocker to select FASTBOOT then press the power button to select it.
4. Connect your phone.
5. Open up a windows command prompt and navigate to your sdk tools or platform tools folder. tools (c:\android-sdk-windows\tools) or platform-tools (c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools) (ore where you have the adb)
6. Type FASTBOOT DEVICES to make sure your computer "sees" your phone and is ready to flash the recovery. You should get a serial number and then the word fastboot as the output.
7. Type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and press enter. Give it a minute to do it's thing. You should get a message that says writing recovery and success.
(you must have the recovery.img on the same place as fastboot)
8. Unplug your phone and use the volume rocker to select BOOTLOADER and then again to select RECOVERY and you should be booted into the recovery

Yes, but it's PD98IMG.zip, otherwise the phone won't recognize it . To flash recovery in fastboot in the suggested way you need ENG S-OFF, wich I don't actually recommend to flash, unless it's the modified ENG HBOOT in the Hack Kit. If you want to flash the PD98IMG.zip file in fastboot, follow this:
Boot in fastboot and plug the phone (you will see fastboot usb)
Open a CMD as Admin or Terminal as root in the PC (and navigate to where the file is located)
Now type in CMD:
fastboot oem rebootRUU (you will get a black screen with silver HTC)
fastboot flash zip <nameoffile.zip>
When it is done (you will see OKAY. finished at the bottom of the cmd session), type:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Then check that is correctly installed.
If not just name the file PD98IMG.zip, put it in the root of the sdcard and reboot in hboot until you are prompted to update....:good:

running the Hack Kit with S-OFF is useless. It will probably jam you up. If you wan to root, then finde SU image and flash it or find the flashable zip file.
Here you are one: http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip or find newer version here:

No, flashing SU will give you root access. If you are already S-OFF don't run the Hack Kit. The hack kit does exactly that...gives you S-OFF and Root....there's no need to do that again.
Just out of curiousity, since I didn't activate the s-off, what are the chances of this being done using HTC dev?
Also, should this be the case, is is gonna affect the root process in any way? I just wonna be sure that I don't miss anything before rooting, especially since the last time I did something like this successfully was 2 years ago on a G1:
Thanks in advance

Well, you will see Recovery work. It will flash the file and follow the instructions in the Binary Updater file. It usually replaces the old version and push the new one.
There's nothing to do but to flash the file. You don't need to wipe anything at all...It is quite simple actually. Just reboot when are told to do so...nothing can go wrong.

Yes, cwm recovery.
the problem is that when I set the recovery, when you try to enter it, the phone curls on htc logo
if you have a phone in 2012, and you have set the recovery, could you share with me the files?

5.0.2.8 Download link
6.0 unofficial,download at own risk
2.2 touch recovery ,at your own risk
I ask for the delay, it was not possible to write.
I tried to put CWM in several ways: 1) through cmd
2) through the archive PG76IMG
In the first case, the phone hangs when trying to go to recovery (green HTC logo on white background)
The second had 2 options: 1) Phone hangs on parsing ...
2) I gave out a message: "Main version is older"

Any solution for this? thanks in advanced.

I have the same trouble. May be it is posible, turn to htcdev support with this question, and ask them to make some update for our device? Or it wouldn`t be take effect? Sory for my english
Same problem here ,I've been trying for months now . I finally managed to flash cwm last night but everytime I booted into recovery it would work OK until I selected any option then nothing at all would happen

Go to this thread. Worked for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997465
Update 2: I've removed all the Method 1,2,3,etc. and added one universal method instead. Advanced, risky one kept.
Update: I've improved the thread, added pictures and what not. Hope you all like it now.
I'm not responsible if your phone blows up, bricks, sd card malfunctions or whatever during this tutorial!
Prerequisites:
A Locked Bootloader
RUU of the radio and / or HBOOT you want.
ADB installed
HTC Drivers
Goldcard (Steps at the end of the post)
Alright, then let's begin.
Download the Bootloader Control tool from this thread. (Thanks theq86!)
Put the zip on the root of your SD card.
Reboot into recovery and flash it.
A Menu-type thingy will appear. It will show you 4 options:
Unlock Bootloader
Lock Bootloader (Guarantee Mode)
Lock Bootloader (Relocked State)
Supervision
Now, what you have to do is, choose either the 2nd or 3rd option.
Then say "NO" to reboot. Go back to the main menu of CWM.
Advanced > Reboot Recovery.
It'll reboot the recovery and get you the main menu again.
Again go back to the bltool and this time, choose supervision.
After that, reboot back to the bootloader and into fastboot.
Download and get the latest RUU, that contains the newest radio and hboot: http://www.4shared.com/zip/gsk9viET/RUU_Marvel_S_Vodafone_UK_22616.html
Let the RUU do its job. After everything's done, your phone will reboot. (You will be factory reset, of course.)
And you'll have the latest Radio and HBOOT.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADVANCED!:
Instead of using the RUU, if you just want the radio and nothing else, follow these steps:
This is not tested by me and I am not responsible if your phone blows up, bricks, etc.
Let the RUU open up till the I agree screen. (Picture above)
Now, open up task manager (Ctr-Shift-Esc / Ctrl-Alt-Delete) and go in "Processes".
Find a process called ARUWizard.exe. Right click and "Go to location".
You'll find a bunch of files and a rom.zip inside. Copy it to wherever you want, rename it to PG76IMG.zip and put it on the root of your SD Card.
Then reboot your phone to bootloader. If all goes well, it will tell you its flashing. It will first flash the HBOOT and radio. Then, it will reboot.
**PULL OUT THE BATTERY WHEN YOU WILL SEE THE RECOVERY SCREEN AGAIN AFTER 1st RESTART (NOT SOONER!) **
And if everything was good, you wouldn't have lost your data, and you would have the latest HBOOT and Radio.
Thanks to Yasounet for this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO MAKE A GOLDCARD:
Use this to create one: http://www.mediafire.com/?hdxoe6e5km434tb
If you want to know when the SD card should be in the phone and / or in the reader, do this: (Refer to the Steps when you start the SimpleGoldCard software)
Step 1 of Software - SD should be in an SD card reader OR Set the phone in disk drive mode.
Step 3 of Software - SD should be in the Phone OR disable disk drive.
Good luck and Happy Flashing!

Okay. Typing this out from my phone, so I'll make this quick. Sorry, but I'll elaborate when I'm on the PC.
So here's the steps to upgrading your HBOOT and radio.
1 - Lock your bootloader again by the following cmd: fastboot oem lock.
2 - Download and get the latest RUU, that contains the newest radio and hboot: http://www.filefactory.com/file/7c4...5.3038H_7.57.39.10M_release_261695_signed.exe
3- Start up the RUU till its on the I agree and crap screen. Ctrl-Shift-Esc. Hit the processes tab and search for ARUwizard.exe.
4- Right click and go to location. You'll see a bunch of files and a Rom.zip.
5 - Make a goldcard and just copy the rom.zip leaked from the RUU changing its name into PG76IMG.zip. Reboot to the bootloader.
6 - If everything went well it will detect the .zip, load it and then ask you to install it. First it'll install hboot and radio, then it'll automatically reboot and flash the entire updated system, boot, etc.
7 - If you still have your unlock_code.bin from htcdev, just reboot into bootloader, on fastboot mode, and just type: fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin.
8 - It'll ask you unlock your bootloader, say yes, and then it reboots.
9 - And that's all, now you can reinstall again another recovery and flash then the rom that you want or restore and backup
I'll update this thread with pics for y'all tomorrow. My hands are paining now.

For the 2nd question:
The RUU doesn't go ahead if you have an unlocked bootloader. Since these are supposed to be used on official roms, they require a locked bootloader. At least that's what I think.

Alright. I have one more trick which I always use.
Instead of renaming, go download the bltool.
Set locked and supervision.
Run RUU.

Yeah, let it do its job, don't do any PG76IMG thing.
With method 2, will it wipe anything off my phone?
