Notes:
Clients 1.3.5 and earlier had an auto-update bug. Please install this version so that your client will stay up to date!
The photo import feature is not available on Mac 10.4 and Linux.
For Android devices, it's best to use "Connect as Disk Drive". HTC Sync will not work.
To import from iPhone, make sure to unlock your phone and enter your passcode before importing, otherwise it will claim to find no photos.
If importing from your iPhone on Mac gives an import error, try hard resetting it--hold down the power and the home button for 5 seconds. This will reboot the phone; it shouldn't change your settings or delete data.
On Windows, this feature relies on Autoplay. Please enable Autoplay to use this feature if you have disabled it.
On XP and Vista, it relies on the Windows Image Acquisition Service. If this service is not started, please start the service and reinstall Dropbox to use this feature. On WIndows Server, you may have to install the Desktop Experience feature.
On Windows 7, newer devices that rely on Device Stage (in the Control Panel) will not show Dropbox as an import option until you select "Change Program" for the default.
The Galaxy Nexus takes a lot of time to connect on OS X because it likes to pretend that every image on the device is a photograph. We now estimate how long it's going to take and show you that in the progress bar but it's usually in the order of minutes. We're working to see if this can be improved.
As usual, we strongly recommend making a backup of your Dropbox before upgrading to this build as we'll need a few weeks to be certain of its stability. We will rapidly release new builds as necessary to snipe the most common issues as they arise."

Thansk mate. Using the latest version now. Hope to get some more free space...

Note that only auto upload gives you free space. Manual selecting files no matter how big they are even from camera folder will not give you bonus space.
Easily solved though. Turn on autoupload in dropbox client (its limited to 25mb per file for GSM uploads but can be changed to unlimited if you so desire and your plan covers it) and take some 3-5 minute videos with 1080p resolution. Those quickly fill requirements and can be deleted after.

Thank you a lot! I'm just recording nothing for 5 minutes and record again. Gonna get 5gb in no time. I love Dropbox!

Fastest way (tip i saw on g+) is to use beta desktop client provided in first post with those blank videos (you can put any avi or mp4 video on usb as well as long as it is in the dcim/camera foler and has not been uploaded to dropbox before and note 'renaming does not work') and use autorun dropbox import function.
must connect in mass storage mode or just plug microsd card ( usb reader and external hard drive does work as long as you keep proper folder structure dcim/camera). allow import to complete then in dropbox client 'pause syncing'. go to dropbox 'camera uploads' folder and delete files. again in dropbox client 'resume syncing' and thats it.
you just maxed 5GB without wasting all that time and bandwith!
note:you must have at least 4.5GB in pics and videos plus that one initial picture
another note: your maximum in pics and videos you want to import can not be greater than total dropbox ammount available to you or it will fail to sync properly. so best keep it around 5 just in case.

The free space is forever?
thanks for the apk

technically yes. well for as long as they are in business or they decide to take it away lol.

Awesome thanks for bringing this to xda....
Cheers

after dropbox, google music, onlive, hulu and all the "cloud solution" available, i wondering how they will sell big storage ( and expensive ) phones

it didn't add 5GB to my free space. And to many many other users (I checked other websites). So it is fake!

Just small correction and explanation on this.
You can put 5GB of videos right away because you initially have 2GB at least and as long as you have at least largest individual file size free in the account you'll be fine. Cause it will be auto bumped by 500MB increments.
My note in one of the posts above referred to people with for example 4gb free trying to sync 17gb i read somewhere.

"For every 500MB of photos and videos automatically uploaded, you'll receive another 500MB space bonus"
Do you have to leave them forever, or in time can you delete them and still retain the free 500mb?
I used the DT app and uploaded 600mb of photos... no additional "500 mb" yet rewarded and normally they are instant on that like they were when I sync'd my first photos from my Prime. So, not sure what the angle is?

You have to use the camera upload option to automatically sync pics and videos.
You can delete them afterwards. I just made several 10 minute videos and the uploaded and i get my 5GB.
Opps hit the thanks on accident, freebie
I got a total of 5GB total, you get 500MB for the first upload and 4,5GB for every 500MB of photo+video you upload.

Read post #1... you should be able to upload via desk or phone and earn the extras
So far, only vids and photos uploaded from my phone or tablet are earning the 500mb extras, desktop is not getting it done as claimed
UPDATE: I just did the Google Adwords method last night until this morning. I have been meaning to do it since I read about it month ago, but this whole thing prompted me to go for it. In 12 hours I spent $10 and got over 30 signups and maxed out my allotted free "referral" space - I only needed 27. So on a Free account, I now have just over 15gb of storage.

@theos0o best known for modding Skype from sgs forum has found a way to patch dropbox client into thinking we have regular htc phone, giving us aditional 3gb free for a year here
Last chance to get 5GB. New beta just came out that takes effect today, that lowers 5GB to 3GB.
"Yo ho ho, and a bottle of code!
We wanted to say a special thanks to all of our early beta users! Thanks to your feedback, we have been able to find and fix a bunch of bugs.
Starting today, new users of Camera Upload will get 500 MB after their first successful import. Users can also receive up to a total of 3 GB additional free space for photos and videos automatically uploaded via the desktop or mobile apps.
Forum build users who tested Camera Upload before today, either on the desktop or Android, will keep any additional storage space they received for trying the beta version, and will still be able to earn up to 5 GB."
thanks for the info bro! im going to try the avi trick right now hopefully its not to late
@theos0o strikes again!
Now bringing 23GB free for 2 years. Deal with dropbox and new HTC devices.

50GB Cloud Storage for Free! (box.com)

This is great news that could end the mirroring/uploading issue for ROM developers!
Go here:
http://box.com
and install the Android app and you get 50GB lifetime storage for free!
Source:

Enjoy.
I've tried it. It still works..
Some tips:
For complete SD Card sync to box.com:
download (free) app FolderSync Lite
To access the box.com on OSX via WebDav:
In Finder, press cmd+K and type:
https://www.box.com/dav
And for PC users (mapping network drive):
http://www.webosnation.com/map-box-net-network-drive-your-computer
Whilst this is a great offer I'm finding it does not integrate quite as well as Dropbox does. Drop box seems to do a better job of sync'ing across multiple platforms (I use Android handset and tablet, Ubuntu and win7 on a daily basis) especially with things like recently taken photos. I would also say from my perspective Drop box has a better user interface especially in the desktop environment.
For the moment I'm going to run both using the Box option for my longer term backed up storage and Dropbox for the everyday transferring files around.
what's the file upload image?
i got the 50GB from box.com when the HP Touchpad's came out and I was sure the max upload was crazy like 100MB - which put me right off.
Minus.com seemed a better deal - quickly got up to 50GB storage with them and the upload limits are bit more generours

Thanks for the hint. I'll try with file expert and see if that works too. File explorer kept telling me I wasn't rooted and wouldn't let me access the root so I swapped.
Just signed up, thanks 4 the info.
Thank you very much!

Another 500mb-3gb for Dropbox.

http://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=55985&replies=174
1. Install the beta client from the link above onto your desktop (I did not uninstall previous version, they recommend backing up your Dropbox folder)
2. Connect some kind of portable storage with pictures on it
3. In the auto run menu select dropbox picture import (or whatever its called)
It will create a folder called "Camera Uploads" inside of the Dropbox folder.
You will get 500mb instantly, and another 500mb for every 500mb of pictures you have up to 3gb. So Im not sure if you need 2.5gb of pictures, or 3.
May take a while....
You wont get all the space right away, but in 500mb chunks as the pics upload.
The source device of the pictures doesn't need to stay plugged in the whole time, as long as the import dialog completed, you can remove the device.
All i had on hand was an external HDD, and Dropbox didn't find pictures on it right away, so I made a folder called DCIM and put the pictures in there. Unplug, replug, good to go.
A workaround for actually uploading that many pictures and movies is listed in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520930
Read the quoted instructions under "Dropbox beta testing =3GB". I'm at 26.88GB of storage between the initial 2GB, the 3GB from the Sense apk, an edu e-mail address with maxed referrals at 16GB, the 2GB code that I posted earlier ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545972 ), 3GB from the camera upload trick, and 256MB from getting started ( https://www.dropbox.com/gs ) and 640MB from spamming about dropbox ( https://www.dropbox.com/free ).
Some good news from http://blog.dropbox.com:
If you’ve got a free account, you can invite up to 32 people for a whopping total of 16 GB of extra space.
Pro accounts now earn 1 GB per referral, for a total of 32 GB of extra space.
Have you already invited a bunch of people?
Don’t worry. Within a few days, you’ll get full credit for every referral that’s already been completed. Boom!
Keep in mind that accounts with edu email addresses linked, remain capped at 500mb/referral. Wish this went up like the regular accounts.

Idea: How to increase your Skydrive Storage to 14, 32 or 50 gigs

Ok I have a theory. A friend of mine shares some of his files from his Skydrive to mine. When I open my Skydrive app and swipe to Shared page, there are his files. Okay so what does this mean?
Well.. if you create a new account (hotmail/outlook) you can then share all your folders/files with your first email account. All your files from your second account will be available on your Shared page in your Skydrive app of your first account.
Now if you had a hotmail account for a long time, you automatically get 25 gigs of storage. If you happen to have a second older account that means you can share another 25 gigs. Total 50 gigs of storage. If your second account is new, then you can share only 7 gigs. Total of 32 gigs of storage.
If you don't have old accounts then both newer accounts will have 7 gigs. Thus you could have a total of 14 gigs of storage.
Great huh? :good:
Now I haven't tried this out yet but I don't see why this should not work.
Interesting, one should try, and report whether it's actually convenient or not.
About the 25GB for old accounts, I wonder how you get that. My hotmail address was opened more than 10 years ago, but yet I only get 7GB. Is there something required to do in order to get 25G. That alone would already be a great improvement for me. With the unused old account of my wife, that'll make 50GB
Little while a go MS offered a free 7gb->25gb upgrade to users who clicked it in their account. I think its not available anymore.

You had to have used SkyDrive by this year. If you had files on it then your account stayed at 25gb else it got downgraded

Aww thanks lol! Enough of a genius to get a thanks?
Surely we could piggy back email acounts. Open new accounts and share 7 gigs and another 7 gigs and another 7 gigs to your defualt Skydrive account???
Ok finally managed to test this. Works fine as I suspected. Put lots of files in my second hotmail account and shared with my first default hotmail account and naturally the files appear in my shared page of the official Skydrive app. I have a total of 4 hotmail accounts. Two 25 gigs and two 7 gigs so in theory (if I wanted to) I could have access to 64 gigs of files in my Skydrive app. Wahay!!!
What do you do with all these files? Why do you need 64GB on the SkyDrive, especially for WP7? Actually, my DropBox free 19 GB account still filled by 40% only (but I'm developer and share huge ISO's between my PC's)

Thanks for head up. I went dig out another account and it had 25G, so I have two 25G now. still get other accounts but won't bother too much right now. This is a great idea. of course, I'm far from using up my first 25G yet, but also I won't try to upload all my photos taken with my SLR neither.

The purpose of my OP is to inform users that they have the option to have access to increased storage from their default Skydrive account. How one utilises that storage is up to them.
I for one have all my PC documents on a specific category related to my passion (over 11 gigs) which is useful to have access to and numerous other media files.

I use Skydrive as a backup storage. With all the photos, documents and music I've gathered during 10 years 25gb is already too short for me.
