[Q] Xperia Play Software Update Version - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone updated their play form sony ericsson?
I want to know what version is the update, is it ICS or 2.3.4 Gingerbread?
Thanks..

There is an update to 2.3.4. If you hadn't flash any kernel or custom ROMs (in fact if you are completely on stock, just to avoid any problems ) you may try the app Update Center, it's already on your phone, also you can update via the PC Companion software.
If you have modified your phone may be you can find the update here in the forums ready to flash or maybe you would like to try a custom ROM, who knows .
Also, there will be an update to ICS later this year, I want it so badly now.

[Q] How to update phone to latest version of android after rooted

I have 2.32 rooted, I want to update my phone to the latest version but some of my stock apps and stuff are deleted what do i do? Using rogers r800a. rooted with gingerbreak. Someone said use SUES to reinstall the original phone software. How exactly do I do this?
Ok so I think I have figured it out. I used SEUS and i updated.re back but I noticed there was no option to update R800a only r800 so thats what I did. All my stock apps are back and now im running 2.33. 2.33 seems exactly like the one before, there is still no landscape mode on the main screens which i thought i heard was updated.

[Q] if the device is rooted, can we update our phone from Sony official Site

Hi,
I am using Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S with Android 4.0.3 and my device is rooted and I have installed CWM.
Now I got an update (4.0.4) to my phone.
I am just wondering if I would be able to update my phone even though its rooted!!
Also, I would like to know that currently i have some mods like systemUI.apk and some other changes.
If I am able to update my phone, will these be replaced and get a default one as per the update of 4.0.4 or will my current mods be retained.
Kindly need your advice
Thanks
If it's only rooted then yes. If your bootloader's unlocked then no. And it will be a new install so you'll lose any mods(including root).
You can update. You will lose root and all the modifications that you made thus far.
yes you can
but if you has unlock your phone and you update it from pcc or seus it will brick

Updating to official ICS 4.0.3 via Samsung Kies

I want to update my phone through Samsung Kies from GB to the official ICS update. If I do it this way, all of my data & apps should stay on the phone, which I want. My phone currently has:
ClockworkMod Recovery
Rooted
Bullet Kernel
Stock ROM
Android V 2.3.5
baseband- T989UVKL1
I know from before that updating the phone requires it to be stock, so my question is, what do I need to do in order to be able to update to ICS through Kies and can I do it w/o losing my apps & data in the process.
Thanks!

It should work fine through Kies although I'm not sure if the kernel might cause a conflict, I would doubt it though if you are still on a stock rom. I did mine rooted from GB stock and the latest radio update, also had CWM.. Maybe others have input..

I tried through Kies and it said that my phone could not be upgraded. It gives me the message "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies" ...I went back, flashed the stock kernel and tried again with no luck. :/
..I think i'm going to stick with GB for now anyway though bc I've heard nothing but bad reviews about the official ICS release. I love the way it looks & I had darkside evo2 for a little bit back a while ago and it was super fast but I went back to GB bc I need the fully functionality of my phone and GPS wasn't working
I went from DEICS to Juggernaut GB and havn't looked back. Its In the RM app.
Most say its the best ROM out there and I wouldn't doubt it.
Plus 1.8ghz! BAM!

[Q] xperia s new firmware official update .55 problem

greetings ,
i have an Xperia s phone with the firmware 6.1.A.2.50 rooted with root many droids (bin4ry)
software update in my phone showed that there is new update available...
i downloaded the new update...but it always fails to update..
is it cuz it's rooted??
should I unroot my device so that i can update...???
im a bit confused :silly:
You can flash stock 6.1.A.2.50 again and then try to update, it should work then. Rooting actually doesn't affect update via PCC or SUS, as far as i know.
But yes if the bootloader is unlocked then you won't be able to update as well. So your device bootloader unlocked or locked?
One more thing you should remember the new update 0.55 is not easily rootable. The method which worked for 0.50 and 0.45 won't work on 0.55
Lastly the new update 0.55 doesn't bring anything special. I tried and then went back to 0.50 again. Still it's your call.

Funny thoug, that Sony claim to be open for external development and for eg. XDA, and at the same time Sony make an effort to secure that you can't root every time they release new firmware...
Sent from my phone using xda premium
:good: thanks guys,im a newbie here..i dunno the answer your question...
i bought the new device and all i did is rooted via Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18...i dunno if it unlocks the bootlloader...
i rooted my device though it wasn't useful to me rather than before rooting cuz i dunno how to use the maximum before rooting..
i heard that the firmware is better for the RAM and i have a wireless problem (it freezes n dysfunction)..
thanks a lot again auni
anyway i fixed it ma self....just used the stupid pc companion and it worked though it took some time to download the update..
thanx XDA

LT18a - Upgrade Options - Bootloader locked

Hi all,
I own an LT18a which appears to be an LT18i equivalent? It's an Xperia Arc S, Central American GSM version.
It is SIM unlocked however it's made after 12W11 so I cannot unlock the bootloader. In the root status it says Bootloader Unlock is not allowed.
It is trapped on Android 2.3.4 which is horrible. No OTA available.
I am wondering what my options are, I have searched but seem to hit dead ends. Is there any alternate way to unlock the bootloader, I tried a few paid services but they said after 12W11 there is no support.
Can I install leaked 4.1 official firmwares like the UK one posted here via flash tool or can I not install anything except what is OTA (nothing at the moment).
Thanks in Advance
You can install via flashtool a ftf file
Also sony have given us a update to ICS 4.0.4
U may get it from PC companion Or a ftf file
I dont think there is a leaked 4.1 update
U may also root ur phone and then install Custom GB roms for locked bootloaders

You can update to Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.0.4, via PC Companion.
At the moment, there is no way for you to unlock the bootloader.
There are no 4.1 official firmwares for our phones, only the ones is xda-developers.
Thanks and thanks! 4.0.4 beats 2.3.4. I will upgrade, thanks everyone!
ICS 4.0.4 might be newer but I'd say that 2.3.4/2.3.7 GB is running much smoother on our devices, so I would not upgrade your phone, but it is your choice
