Help with interna/external sdcard partition format on osx - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I been frustrated for two days now trying to format fat32 on osx.Disk Utility only formats FAT and exFAT,these to filesystems are not recognized by android.
Even worst, once you format external or internal sdcard in osx with FAT or exFAT,those volumes wont even mount in clockwork! So there is no way to format them in cwm!
I only have one windows laptop with broken screen,to make it short i gotta go and hock it up to my tv every time i wanna format my sdcard.
I tried iPartition with no sucess and cant use gParted because my imac has broken dvd drive.
Any suggestions on how to format sd in osx to a filesystem that android will recognize?
And how do i format external sd from cwm?Because it formats internal and not external.
Thanx in advance.
I dont remember having those problems with regular Epic.

You could get your hands on the latest vmware fusion, install xp or linux on it, then go that way. You could make a usb flash drive bootable and put gfarted on it. You could heimdal (sp) the phone with a back to stock. How about adb into the phone and format the internal card (I don't know if it's possible and I don't know how to do it). How about put the external card into another phone that takes micro sd cards and format it there.

gParted on usb wont work because macs dont boot off usb,i cant even boot windows 7 dvd from external dvd drive, thats the reason i dont have windows 7 installed. As far as using wmvare,etc-i wont do it because it slows down system with few services that take ups cpu and ram.
I just wanted to know maybe someone knows some partitioning app that runs directly on osx,or maybe a terminal command or something like that.
Its hard to believe that there isnt even one partitioning app for osx(besides iParted-which only resizes partitions and doesn't format them, and it crashes on my snow leopard).
I know there are some mac users on here that have same issue.

Never tried setting mbr in Disk Utility. And i do have windows7 laptop with broken screen that i almost never use and i had linux, out of all 3 i like osx snow leopard the most.
Now if you got time and knowledge to tweak sht than linux and windows are better.Im still getting used to macs but i wouldn't go back to windows(maybe win 8)

I had developer edition of 8 & wow it blows ..... Instant remove for me...I know it may get better and more refined but just hate the way the GUI is set up.... I like a cleaner more hidden setup....not alot of icons .. To me 8 is just windows 7 with windows phone GUI crammed on top ... Another fall in my opinion it will be another millennium

Exactly what i thought,i tried it on vmware.
They just slimmed windows 7 and overplayed it with metro ui.
Maybe overtime more and more of windows 7 components will get removed and windows 8 will grow to be a completely new os-time will tell.
Im not a big fan of tiles either, maybe if they made those tiles more 3d or interactive/video tiles. To me they look like .bmp images made with paintbrush,lol-it is different i give them that.
Osx lion also headed in wrong direction-i stick with snow leopard for now.

I beg to differ a little. If you make a proper (following online instructions) bootable USB drive, it should boot. I've ran Ubuntu and leopard off of a flash drive on my MacBook. Did you know about the boot loader thing? When you first turn on the Mac, get the sound and white screen, you hold down the option key and it should appear. With vmware, you can configure how much or how little of available resources you give to the guest os. You say you don't like the performance hit when you run virtual machines. You don't run them all the time, just long enough to get the job done in the other OS. You then shut down the guest OS, then vmware, then you have all the resources back for osx. I did have windows problems recently until I remembered I had a vmware XP image sitting on a backup drive. Another alternative is getting a NetBook. Its good enough for flashing and other things that are less of a hassle on windows than Mac.
PS
I've watched the video on how to replace the optical drive on my MacBook. I think I could do it. A replacement (not official apple hardware) optical drive is around 150 for my mb. I've read that going through apple out of warranty to replace a superdrive is around 400 or so.
If you could get the optical drive replaced, you could maybe use boot camp to make the machine dual boot with a windows partition.

Yes you can boot osx and linux off usb but not windows on mac.You cant even boot windows dvd off external dvd drive.Yes when i installed snow leopard it booted fine off external dvd drive but not windows.Just google it.
Maybe u can install linux of external drive because it uses same boot method as osx but windows uses mbr.
And im not about to spend 100-150 dollars for imac internal dvd drive replacement-thats crazy talk, just for little more i can buy a blu ray burner.Replacing drive is easy part,i took my whole imac apart before. And you gotta take almost whole imac apart just to replace dvd drive or hard drive, lol.
Only thing thats good about macs is osx, lol.
I love macs and i bought my imac 2008 used for 400 bucks. But i would never buy one new because they are overpriced and video card cant be upgraded.
I googled for 2 days trying to install windows 7 of external dvd drive/usb stick and no it cant be done. And vmware have services running even when its off.
I like my system clean with minimal software installed, anything you install leaves a mark even after you delete it,plus installing vmware just to format sdcard doesnt sound right, lol.

Like I said, do you have an old phone laying around that could format the card for you? If not you could go to a phone store, find a display phone that is working and is easy to get at the sd card slot, pop in the card and format it. Done.

Universal (XDA Exec) exteranl Cd or DVD drive ?

Hi,
I'm sure this has been covered before, or is a silly question, but is there any way I can connect an external CD or DVD drive to my XDA Exec ?
Thanks, Huw
Pretty sure the answer is "almost no"
You can, within limitations, connect a hard disk:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280062
Maybe you could run a CD/DVD ROM off the IDE controller in that? Although how the drivers would cope is anyone's guess.
Alcohol 52% in PDA?
There are some aplication like
"Alcohol 52% (CD & DVD emulation software capabilites) to a pc" for ours Xda Exec? Something to install in the storage card?
Thanks.

By this u mean that v can attach a cd rom to exec.
What I am trying to say is:
if theres any posibility to execute any simple aplication (like a Iuris Dictionary or a Dictionary) under WM05... but simulating Windows xp (for example)....
Thanks
That's a very different question: like asking, if I paint a go-faster stripe on my car, can I fly to space like the Space Shuttle?
Mamaich has done some work on running Windows on the PDAs, but they can barely run their native OS fast enough, they're not really very good at emulating foreign OS. You'll be better off finding a native app that does the same job, if you can.
V
Yes thanks... The cds that I need, I donĀ“t if they really need Xp or similar versions... but they need to be execute in my pc always in the cd or whit a iso image whit alcohol...
So if there is some thing to run a iso image in the pda will be fine...

Virtual or Emulated PC engine on Winmo?

we all know we can Run virtual winmo on a PC based machine.
but can we run an emulated PC on a winmo?
not really the whole OS. but something like STYLETAP where you can run some PPC apps on symbian and UIQ devices.
i know some of us wants to run Apps desiged for PC that doesnt have a mobile version yet.
and while we're at it, I'd like to drive my car with my phone, too
oh and make dinner with it as well

I personally do not use it, but some guys got an original Win95 up and running with this on PocketPC.

It's a cool experiment to run Windows 95 on your PPC, but even on a 528 MHz device like the TP2, it'll still be at best unusable for anything. Bochs is even slower than DosBox when running a full version of Windows, and it just doesn't work well.
@OP: Really, the only thing to do is wait for a full port of whatever PC apps you want to run. Alternatively, you could look into setting up a remote desktop connection, which shows your PC's screen on your phone over a network connection.

As long as we're making christmas wishes, I'd love to see a new approach to remote desktop connections, for much the reason the OP has in mind. Rather than kicking the screen output straight to your mobile, your PC should reorder the contents and GUI of any particular program to the template of your choice, and then transmit THAT to your mobile. A little scripting, and you've got a perfectly mobile-friendly interface to control the desktop program of your choice. Then when you interact with the reworked interface, the desktop translates your action and carrier it out on the real program.

[Q] Formatting MicroSD Card Used in WP7 Device with Nokia Phone

Does anyone know what would be the least-featured (read: least expensive!) Nokia phone with the Symbian operating system that is capable of formatting a microSD card that's been used in a WP7 device? In other words, what model Nokia phone with the Symbian operating system should I look for (used) if I want ONLY to use it to format memory cards used in WP7 devices & want to spend as little money as possible?
The Nokia 7650 (S60) was the first, according to what I've read, Nokia phone released with the Symbian operating system; it was released in 2002 and had V6.1 of Symbian. Does anyone know if that early version of Symbian would format a WP7 card, or do I need a later version?
THanks,
Dennis
What do you just want to use it in something else...
Why not just use mini partition wizard on the PC. Is free so can't really go wrong.
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
I've used it a ton of times on my hd2 works perfect... There's another program too... I believe it the Panasonic sd formatter.. I think it's a program that comes with a digital camera or something.
No need to buy a Nokia though just to format a card.

Unless you've put Windows Phone 7 on your HD2, which I understand can be done, it's NOT the same as formatting a microSD card from a Windows Phone 7 device. Once removed from a Windows Phone 7 handset, the microSD card DOES NOT EVEN SHOW UP IN A PC WHEN YOU TRY AND READ IT THAT WAY. The ONLY way I know of FOR SURE to make it useable again is to format it in a Nokia phone that uses the Symbian operating system.
Dennis
Yah I know... Only thing that shows is 200mb.
Its the wp7 partition that doesn't show up..
Yah had windows phone 7 on my hd2 since the original dft rom... That's actually why I ended up buying the hd7.
That program will work. I've actually since then used it for several other random stuff too. Like shrinking the drive on my laptop to dual boot 7 & 8.
When you open the program make sure you select te sd card. Then delete both partitions, it will turn into one unformatted partition, then format the whole thing to whatever format you want, then click the click check mark check to apply changes, let it do its thing, all set.

Had the same problem only seeing 200 mb of 2GB. Partition wizard worked perfectly for me.Thanks for the tip @reeg420
The above is not for native windows phones
as far as nokia you can get nokia music phone and it should be super cheap to get what you need to get done
It takes less than 3 minutes I did it for a member on xda and it was no problem
edit I used my n8 and it is symbian belle. It doesn't matter which os though

Install Windows 8 on Intel-based smartphones

Anybody know if it'd be possible to install Windows 8 on an Intel-based smartphone such as Droid Razr i? The device should theoretically be compatible with Windows 8 as it's just using a pretty standard Intel Atom x86 CPU. The 32-bit version of Windows 8 should work. Anybody tried this before or know how I could approach this?
This should be revisited. The Asus Zenfone 2 came out and specs-wise, it is more powerful than many tablets out there.

Agreed! However, back when I asked this question, some people said it was not possible due to lack of driver support and possibly some issue with the bootloader. But when has that ever stopped XDA? This would be a really cool project and would really be awesome if you could install Windows 10 and use the Continuum feature. Unlike Windows 10 Mobile, this version of continuum would still allow x86 desktop apps to be run on the phone.
"This would be a really cool project and would really be awesome if you could install Windows 10 and use the Continuum feature. Unlike Windows 10 Mobile, this version of continuum would still allow x86 desktop apps to be run on the phone."
I completely agree with you. Chances are MS won't let Asus make this happen but Windows 10 Pro in your pocket and it can send/receive calls+text messages? What's next?...Snapchat?? - one can dream.

It doesn't matter if Microsoft allows it or not. I'm sure people will be able to get an unlocked bootloader for this phone or make one if Asus doesn't provide it. From there, I'd imagine it'd be something along thing lines of pre-installing Windows 10 onto a microSD card and then boot from it on the phone. The hard part would be making it boot and finding the necessary drivers. I wish I'd know more about where to start but my development skills are more centered around app development, not necessarily OS and hardware.

Please don't make me wants this more than I already do...

As far as i know its impossible to run win 7, but you can run win xp or 95 or 93 on it but it will be super laggy and also awkward.
But if you talking about running windows app on android, wine team is working on it (idk if they still working on it or abandoned it).
Just a theory if you can chmod linux on your tablet and you should be able to get wine working and you can run win apps with it...

Hi Jacker31, & gjost_j
It is posible to do virtual xp and previous. Seach the forum for "Bosh".
It was compiled a few years ago for all arm base devices. But at tha time ther were no x86!
Itry to compile it but could not got over some errors.
So yes if we could find a good sourse we may give it a try!
Look
Using remote desktop (i.e. Teamviewer or Splashtop) is a much better solution than actually installing Windows.
@r2d23cpo
This remind me this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUE-gJmcGKk few years back then. Trust me, Its not worth it to try *I tried before and it lags like hell*
@Jacker31 and others
I never said it is worth it. How to run Windows on android ? thats the title.
Still I will like to have it handy. You never know of a real need that may make it give you go into this trouble. Please keep in mind that all those programs where made available only for ARM! And you will will find lots of info, none for x86 tablet.
Now I do can run Ubuntu in VNC mode, it lags but work. In fact I have it handy with Open Office. It is my main project to try run Ubuntu Natively. But I have post pone all projects due to health issues.

J,
hi, how much ram did you allocate to the emulator ?
i had a thought of using bosch to run a minimal pe windows [minixp]
i'm going to try 800mb ram on the tab 4, on the tab 3 i believe only the p5220 would
have enough ram available for a semi-decent run.
@ghost_j1
Else i think the only solution is ssh/vnc as long as your connect is reliable.
