better signal with FOIL!!!! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Was very disappointed witht the signal in my house so here's how I boosted 3g and 4g signal
1 open back cover
Get 3 pieces of foil
Next to the camera on your left u can see a indent where the antenna is
Sandwich small pieces of foil there
close the cover
Enjoy a boosted signal!!!
Please post results please thanks!!

Super ghetto.

Yeah ... will do when neccesary

Placing foil on an electronics device...pure genius . Funny thats the EXACT same thing we do at work when we want to short out a motherboard on a pc.

Full bars every time buddy!

not to mention your antannae is finely tuned. it doesn't matter what you put there. it's not connected to a thing so proves no real purpose. its exactly like those damn boost your signal strips.

uhh...I need a Qbking77 video on this.

Ahhh the placebo effect... clasic

Wouldn't this be actually bad since the radio on the phone is designed to work on a set amount of power for a specific frequency? Increasing the lenght of the antenna modifies its receiving frequency. Maybe the radio is receiving something else and it measures its power as OK.

Lol ill post a video. It works very well for me. And no its not placebo I've done with and without the foil.

Either crazy things like this actually work or people believe it will work so strongly that it actually does work for them. I'm going with believing makes it so theory. I'm about to increase my signal to a Verizon lte with perfect strength using a fish tank a phone and positive thinking.

pretty sure there was a group of people that did this with the NS4G and when they removed the wire/metal/foil... the antenna no longer worked.
i'll try to find the thread. in the meantime be careful.

I used to do this with my rabbit ears on my black and white and it worked great and if you get cousin fred to stand there holding the foil it worked even better and he could change the channel for me so i didnt have to got up

Cool idea! Easy way to make SGS look like Nexus S

Hi,
Just had a sweet idea. Not sure if anyone has tried this yet? Looking at the Nexus S, the front is all black, i.e. no Samsung branding.
I was wondering if we were to take a standard screen protector, and put a small black patch or color a small area black somehow on the adhesive side, then line this up to cover the Samsung logo the front of the device will look all black.
The area only needs to be ~0.5 cm high/2cm long to cover the logo.
Does anyone think this will work or will it look gash? Haven't tried it yet, only collateral damage if it doesn't work would be a screen protector though I guess...
Could work. But why would you want that ;/?. I can understand about themes and stuff but why cover the samsung logo on the front ;/
Yeah... then after hiding the logo try bending the screen and block the sd-card slot with balsa wood and super glue and you will have an awesome phone... hehe...

We should also find a way to downgrade bluetooth from 3.0 to 2.1. And eliminating the radio will not be easy task.

May or may not work.. I dont really see the point though, the Samsung logo is not ugly or overly present. Also, it wouldnt make it look like a Nexus S, it would just make it look even more like an iPhone 3G

Nah... What I´ve heard it has a tendency to FC. Better not overheat it. Try putting it on your fattest relatives chair during a family dinner or something (the screen is sturdy as we all know). Ideal would be if you knew one of those guys who bends the bananas before they are transported to the stores... sadly, most of them have been hired by samsung and moved to Korea...
HD-video recording should be disabled using nr2 sandpaper on the camera lens.
bluetooth 3.0 I havent thought about beacause non of my friends have as good taste as I when it comes to android devices, due to this I dont think I have ever used bluetooth on my sgs and I might add that I preordered it...

Made a plexi glass dock!

Well, its still in rough shape, need to do some sanding etc... but here it is.
It uses two very small screws to charge through the pogo pin connection.
I wanted it originally to be entirely clear, but I messed up with some super glue and made it turn white, so I may paint it. Also thought about embedding an LED and etching a logo into the back to make it "glow"
Anyway, I'll get better pics with some progress soon hopefully

Very cool idea! Good way to easily be able to line up the charging contacts at the very least.
This is awesome! I know a lot of people are using different alternatives for the pogo plunger pins and was curious how yours were working? You said you are using small screws? Do you have any trouble with them scratching the actual pogo connections on the phone? That was my only concern for people that were using things like screws, guitar strings, and nails even.
I would like to see a close up of your contact pins. It does seem like each of us has come up with slightly different methods and materials (other sping pins, guitar string, contact prongs, copper tape, screws, tack pins...)
question : How fast does it charge? I'm scared it might be slower compared to the wall plug
Right now charging via the pogo pins is sensed as USB by the stock ROM and limited to 500 miliamps.
There is a kernel that can be flashed to force full AC charging mode.
We believe this is the issue holding up the aftermarket pogo accesories, as manufacturers dont want their product reputation hurt by charging not keeping up with power use on devices that are actually limited by the software.
Everyone is hoping that the next OTA update will have the fix....

I'll try and get a pic of the screws later tonight after work. I do have a scratch that I suspect is from them, however I'm sure something can easily be changed so that doesn't happen. Unfortunately I dropped my phone last week and chipped the screen, so I'm not worried about a scratch at this point.
If the sharpness of the screws is/was a problem I had planned to just grind them down and make them smooth and rounded, which I'm sure is still a very viable option.
As for the comment on speed, I guess that's already been pretty well answered. I was only going to add that I haven't paid attention, I've just been using this to charge my phone while I sleep.
I also plan to add an nfc tag or something to put the phone into the dock mode and set alarms or whatever.

No really a fair comparison since I work for a plastic manufacturing company . I used a 400 watt laser to cut those parts out. I also have 3 & 5 axis CNC machines. I'm toying with the idea of casting a molded base but need to 3d scan my phone for the proper geometry.
Figured it was lasered or something similar. I only wish I had access to some equipment like that. Cordless dremel just doesn't quite do the job

Hook me up with one! I'd love to have something for my phone like that especially if you get the pins put into there. But if not then at the very least it can do double duty for my tab as well.
Pretty slick looking ideas. I've always thought of making a couple of those for my office, home, and bedside.
I also heard that they have a new kernel that forces Fast Charging regardless of the connection. I know right now I'm running Axi0m Hybrid and it has a status bar toggle for Fast Charge. I haven't tested it out though.

Just orderd 2 kinds of alu covers for my Note.. and they are much cool looking + much better to hold the phone with..
But since i did use them i notesed a Bad decrece of both wifi and call signal ...
SO i did some testing with both my new alu covers (Slim alu covers).. and my oem samsung back cover.. and guess what that damn alu cover Kills my connection Really bad..
This is one of the alu covers i bought
http://www.ebay.com/itm/110829426900?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I had about 101-107 dbm with the alu covers.. and about 5 asu..
and with original samsung backcover i have 87 - 95 dbm 9-13 asu ..
So my advise, be carefull to not use any covers you find out there..
Excuse my speeling

Hmm!
I tested it with 2 Galaxy Notes.. One Stock unrooted ICS..and One Rooted ICS.
Several Locations at home..
Tested both 3G Signal and Wifi..didnt test bluetooth...
And without any dought it was affecting both wifi and 3g network in a bad way!
Both wifi and 3g signal was affected.. did several wifi tests.. but since i have a strong router with 3 antennas it didnt affect the wifi as much as it did 3g!
Its a pitty cause i really loved this alu cover
thanks for the heads up. i'm looking for a replacement cover myself.
I did a 3 3g speed tests with the aluminium cover and my speed was almost the same once, the other 2 times it was faster 4250kbs.... go figure wifi test with aluminium 8963 kbs, with plastic 4189, but each speedtest varied and was never really the same

Try to go further from your router..
At a "regular" home distance, it dosent affect wifi much! but if you do go further from the router you will see the diffrnce.. (Not That Big) in wifi..but still less signal and speed..
But in the 3G Section (Im talking about Streanght) in DBA is Much worse.... i didnt try 3g speed for downloading and etc.. i did a speed measre with Wifi only.. and a signal measure with 3g net only..
I have a cover on my Note with plastic sides and aluminum back and it doesn't affect signal strenght. Just saying if someone was considering buying one these. A full aluminum phone cover would probably eat up the signal though.
Meh, i was planning on getting one of these

Yup. They had to stop advertising GPS capability pretty soon, then offered an additional external GPS dongle,
and - thankfully, because I bought one - reworked the design for subsequent Infinity (rear not fully metal design, plastic margin for
antennae

Four bars and I'm still getting dropped calls.

This is driving me nuts. The signal in my area was ass, so I yelled at Sprint until they sent me an airrave. Now that my signal is piggybacking off house wifi I see four bars nearly all the time, unless I'm in a bathroom on another floor.
Despite that, however, I'm still having calls with family drop on me. Beep before the call will indicate I'm on the airrave, call is going fine, and then the hangup beep, with the occasional "Call has been lost" notification. If I look at the phone immediately after the call has been lost, I see the LOS icon (i.e. the bars disappear and it becomes a solid, gray triangle) for a second, then goes back to 4 bars,
WTF, Sprint.
I have the same issue. I came up with a strange repair. Strip of aluminum foil over the 3g antena flatened and spread to the back of the phone taped and a good phone case put over it. Since the foil (even cheap no name foil) is made of 99% pure aluminum. This is a good conductor. I have it on my phone. Now places I never got signal I get atlease two bars. And my droped calls stoped. Simple low tech fix.
If you look at the pic the three darker parts are the major antennas. Left (largest) is 3g, center top is gps and right is 4g.

These antannaes are tuned to exact lengths. By altering that you can severely mess up your signal. Although having a tin foil antannae sitting on top of your actual antannae not even making contact is just blocking the waves. The same as those gimmicks on TV telling you to place their sticker under the battery.

Not true. As long as you do not modify the stock attenna it will work. All the receiver will know is that it has better access to the signal. Besides. Prove me wrong. Try it. I have ran multiple tests in several different environments. It will not provide a dramatic boost. But will provide enough signal to make phone calls and roam the web. It's simple science. Look it up. Do your own research. The same tech that makes NFC work makes this possible. Look, I was looking for a simple fix to help me get a signal while at work. Since my work is in a valley, this helps. It may not be what your looking for. Don't modify the stock attenna. Don't cut anything. Just put. Two pieces over each attenna. Don't let them touch. Put the case back on. Reset the phone. And just try it. If it does not work. Take it off and return back to what it was before. No harm done. Think about it. What would I gain by telling a lie?

you are nowhere near a point where you should be showing off. get at least some semblance of a finished product, then come back.
doing a mod that allows you to keep a stylistic part (the draco) by making the device look like something scrounged from junk, is silly. and that is where it is as of now.

Hey dude, get some automotive body filler. Should clean it up nicely. Model car putty should work too but i think the automotive filler will hold up better to getting hit. . Tape off the area you dont want to get the stuff on, Lay it on, than sand it, than id suggest spray painting the stuff to protect it, than it will look good.
Do a search on model car putty to get an idea of what it does.

Do a search on model car putty to get an idea of what it does.

Thanks, hopefully this works out because i was thinking about silicone and this looks like a better option.
spraying it with white truck bed liner would probably be decent too, figure it would add some durability to it
