[Q] HELP, I just got rooted but whats Next? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Before i start this, let me say i SPENT 2-3 Hours already trying to find out everything there is to Rooting, Xperia Play, R800at, etc. I really did do my exploring and I just give up. Im on the brink of breaking out a gun and shooting myself lol.
Okay, heres the problem. 2 Months ago Alejandrissimo Unlocked my bootloader. Today, I just rooted it using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299729 he gave me recently.
Now, im stuck. It says I have to install CyanogenMod 7 after the rooting process but idk how? Idk if my phone is GSM or CDMA.
BTW, I have a Xperia Play R800at, 2.3.3.
Recently Rooted, and unlocked bootloader by Alejandrissimo.
So, what now? Do i install this CyanogenMod 7 with GSM or the CDMA? Is there an updated CyanogenMod 7? How do i get rid of the bloatware, overclock my phone, etc? What are these roms you flash and what not? Please Help, I am in seek of it and just need a good guide or some instructions that can help me out.
Thanks.

Ok. So. With an unlocked bootloader you do not need root to install cyanogenmod...
If you go to the dev section, freexperia (fxp) 105 is what you're looking for. Since you have the R800at, you've got a gsm phone.
I'm not sure for gsm what does work on the R800at, and what doesn't...

Did you install the kernel first?

HOWTO FLASH ROM
to flash cm7 rom you have to take 3 steps (after unpacking the 7z archive)
step 1 - copy update.zip to sdcard
step 2 - flash new kernel (always use the kernel provided in CM7 / it is incompatible with stock ROM)
ON PC - run fastboot flash boot boot.img (an black window will open and will stay open untill kernel is flashed)
ON PHONE - put phone in fastboot mode (power off then press lower right key and plug usb cable) and phone LED will light BLUE
step 3 - when phone is booting (first 5 seconds) press volume key several times to enter recovery and choose apply update from sdcard
WARNING - if you used another rom (stock or custom) you have to wipe data or device will not boot

[Q] Possible brick

First off I would like to mention that I am a complete newb to Motorola.
I am trying to mod a defy for my GF. I rooted and flashed CWM and then I tried to install CM7 2.3.4.
My problem is the device is stuck at the boot screen. I know sometimes it takes a while once you flash a new rom, but this is definitely something else.
I am the idiot who breezed through the faq without reading it properly....
I think the issue is I left USB debugging on when I flashed the rom. Now I am trying to flash the 2.2 SBF file and it doesnt seem to want to work.
I was wondering if anyone had some advice for me?
HEy follow my guide on techofweb and never use defy 2nd init 1.5 or above................u must use 1.4 version to make it work......

[Q] Encryption and root

I ask forgiveness if this has been answered before, but the search function is currently down.
I'm receiving my GSM GN tomorrow, and I'd like to ask a couple of questions, in case anyone has done this with their phone:
I work in a corporate environment that wants encryption on their mobile devices due to the nature of our work (insurance). My ICS tablet, an ASUS TF101, has the ability to do full device encryption, and I'm assuming that the GN can as well. However, I'd like to root my phone as well. This means that I will need to remain stock (which I have no issues with) and also need to keep the stock recovery. I'm not overly interested in running custom ROMs.
Is it possible to root the phone without replacing the stock recovery via an exploit?
Is it more practical, or realistic, to instead:
Unlock bootloader
Install CWM or equivalent recovery
Root device via recovery
Reflash stock recovery
Encrypt device
With my tablet, I rooted it before I encrypted it. Since it did not have an unlocked bootloader or recovery, I had to use one of the exploits that was around at the time.
Anyone have any advice they might share?
With an unlocked bootloader, you can boot whatever kernel you want without flashing it. So, just boot cwm, flash the root files, and done. You have root + stock recovery. Then you can turn on encryption.

Ah, unlocking the bootloader allows you to flash anything you want via the stock recovery? That's quite useful, and I appreciate the response

No, you can flash whatever you want in recovery regardless if your bootloader is locked or not.
What an unlocked bootloader allows you to do is flash whole images to partitions and to boot any kernel you want, using fastboot. So, you can boot up cwm without flashing it: fastboot boot cwm.img

[PRO] Flash Custom Kernel + ROM and O/C

Hi all, im a newbie here, i bought my Xperia PRO a month ago, and rooted it on Android 4, using a great tutorial in this forum and thanks to other members i got it right and rooted it in my 4 first days of use. But, i now want to upgrade to a Custom ROM and use a custom kernel , to get my phone to a new generation.
And my question now is, how can i flash a Custom ROM (i was thinking of CM9 stable when it comes out), and flash a custom Kernel with it (i was thinking of Ultima V1.4) and then keep my old applications, or most of them.
I have CWM Recovery 5.5.0.4 installed using X-Parts , and also Titanium Backup Pro . My Bootloader is still locked and i have flashtool and all drivers for my phone installed on my PC.
I would be very thankful to anyone that is able to help me do all these, or if needed, recommend me a better Custom ROM and Kernel, and then explain how i can O/C my phone too, and keep if possible most of my apps.
Also, please tell me if i have to install anything else, or if im missing anything.
Thanks in advance.
Hi mate,
First of all, I take it that you know that you have to unlock your boot loader to install custom kernels and some custom rom's. Like CM9 and 10.
ROM Install Instructions
There are normally instructions that are in the first or second post that explain how to install. If there aren't any, I've copied the instructions from maxio1998, so all credits go to him:
1. Download .zip file and place it on SD card
2. Download and flash kernel you like (or not, if you have locked bootloader)
3. Download WiFi Modules of chosen kernel and place them on sdcard
4. Go to CWM Recovery.
5. Wipe everything! (This means everything but the SD card, or you'll use all you files)
6. Flash zip with ROM
7. Flash zip with WiFi modules
8. In CWM go to "Advance" and fix permissions.
9. Reboot and enjoy [~xDevilCharged~] and PentaPowerful~ Jelly Sandwich!

Kernel Install instructions
To keep it simple, heres a program that doomed151 made. It flashes the .img without having to use command prompt: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551073
Right, onto keeping your apps. As you need to wipe everything to install a new ROM, you can't keep your apps without backing them up. Titanium backup is the best option, and you've bought it, even better :victory: The wipe will not delete the backups from the SD Card so just place them somewhere on there.
You can use any overclocking app from the market as long as you let it use superuser or supersu. Don't recommend passing 1.3, it gets very hot and the cpu will burn out quicker. (Yeah, I know i've overclocked mine to 1.5, but it gets very hot and runs out of battery quickly)
As you've already got CWM installed, you'd be better doing a full nandroid backup, just in case you decide to revert back to stock, you have all your apps installed
Unfortunately, I'm using the arc, so I can't recommend any kernels or ROM's to you. Sorry.
If I've missed anything you need to know, just let me know. I'll try to help
Awesome! Thank you very much my friend, very detailed and nice guide. I'll wait for CM9 stable to be released for my phone an then ill try it out.
Thanks again.
Also, I've searched enough, to believe that cyanogen mods, are the best and most recommended custom ROMs, about the kernel, I aint so sure but ill see what other user's might say.

If i remember right, CM9.1 (stable) has not yet been released for iyokan (MK16i). So that means i have to wait. Also, i can flash a ROM and use a kernel other than the ROM's default one, right? (i want CM9.1 with Ultima V1.4 Kernel)
And one more thing, i have moved all apps to the SD, what will happen to the files there? Will they remain?

I think that you have to use the cm kernel (fxp kernel). Could be wrong though, not really looked into it.
Any apps that you have installed on your phone will be deleted. You have to back them up and then restore them. It doesn't matter where they are installed

so, how can i be sure if it is possible to flash CM9 with Ultima Kernel?
Also, do i have to do anything with google apps? And flash another baseband or something like it?
And last but not least, i have installed CWM using X-Parts, will this affect anything?

Sorry for late reply, just look up the thread again.
Best thing you could do is ask a question the Ultima Kernel thread and hope you get a response. But I think that it will be for stock only, (I think they need different things in them....) but im not a dev, I don't have the patience.....
You might have to flash google apps. Just use CWM in the custom kernel you choose. They will be a link in the bottom of the first post to the google apps download.
No need to flash another baseband or owt like that. When you flash the full zip of CM9 in CWM it will add and edit everything you need.
CWM from X-Parts will not have any effect on anything after you flash a different kernel. It will disappear like it was never there.
Hope I'm able to help again Need anything else, just post again, I will pick it up
Good work Jon565G
Not just good, excellent work!
I did it, and flahsed the kernel and all that stuff, now i reinstalled all my apps , and O/Ced at 1.2Ghz , and everything is nice.
But, working on android stuff, makes you want more and more, and as you learn better, that makes you want even more, and now i want to mod another phone.!
I've learned a lot from your help and the help of other members of this forum, and i think i am now ready to "mod" more phone, just for fun.
I already managed to flash an x10 mini with miniCM7 and flash a nAa Kernel, and also flash another x10 mini pro with miniCM7, and probably today ill mod another friend's x10 mini. And later two x8.
Learning, is great, thank you all.
EDIT: I also found out that everything you need is Flashtool, its the best tool out there, it flashes, it installs Busybox, recoveries, it unlocks bootloaders, it roots, it flashes kernels, everything. .Ok you might also need s1tool to check about the semc lock and if you unlocked the bootloader.

I know, I'm the same. I'll want to go and buy about 10 different android devices just to have a play around and mod them. It's always nice to play around with 2 android devices (Please come back in stock Nexus 7 )
Anyway... I'm just glad that I was able to help to introduce you to the world of android modding.
Have fun, that's what it's all about :victory:
(I had to use multiple programs, my bootloader could only be unlocked my test point. Was locked to T-Mobile. Best use of flashtool is when you've bricked it and need to get it back to stock )
I hope you get back your Nexus 7 then
Yeah, i unlocked my Bootloader using testpoint method too, so i wouldnt get any bricks with FOTA updates. And, i also used to be into such electronic stuff.
And, you didnt just introduced me into Android Modding World, you made me a fanatic Android Modder
Anyway, thank you once more, and yeah, thats the point, the fun about all these stuff

I am not sure, but i believe, that either you have locked or unlocked bootlader, it will always say "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: Yes , or No if its not allowed).
I aint sure, because in CM9.1 i dial it, and i cant get to the Service Settings, so i cannot be sure.
And, as i've found out, you can be sure if you have locked or unlocked bootloader, by running S1tool, and pressing "IDENTIFY" , which will tell you to connect your phone in flashmode (phone off, connect USB while pressing back) , and it will give something like "loader version xXXXXXX" , where the capital X , are numbers, and the small x, is either "R" or "r". If it is a small "r" , that means its unlocked, if its a capital "R" its locked.
If you want to unlock your bootloader in the Xperia Pro, just tell me , and im sure i'll help you out, with a detailed tutorial, without having any problems.
Hope i helped.

[Q] Please help. Custom ROMs constantly rebooting

ok let me just preface this by saying that i am a complete moron and didn't make a nandroid back up. i am new to this stuf obviously and didnt research enough before i dove in.
also this is referring to the htc on v cdma on virgin mobile.
so i was able to successfully unlock and root the phone. bootloader says unlocked and root checker from the market said i had full root access.
i installed the team win recovery on the phone. the first rom i flashed was the cdma pacman rom from here. i did a full wipe and flashed the rom, and then flashed the kernel from said rom via fastboot on my pc. upon firing it up, it boots and gets through the boot animation and into the OS. but after about 10 seconds my service shuts off (it shows a little R above my reception bars) and the phone reboots. just does this over and over.
so i thought maybe it was the ROM so i tried AOKP jellybean. same issue.
any idea what i did wrong here? thanks in advance.
lol, i had the same problem as you. It happens because of the OTA update or radio version, try using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018518
I just followed Solution 1 and it worked for me, I was originally on CWM but moved to TWRP cause it's more convenient.
After using the RUU you'll be back to bone-stock and will have to unlock the bootloader and all that fun stuff all over again that's if you use solution 1; however, atleast you'll be able to get the stock-rom backed up again for just-in-case. Skip OTA updates, and then proceed to recover and then start rom flashing/fastbooting kernel and all that fun stuff.

awesome thank you so much. i am slightly confused on which one to download though. i am assuming it is this one here, the only one i see with sprint/vm branding. RUU_PRIMO_C_ICS_40A_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.08.652.6_Radio_1.00... i'll give it a shot
yea that's the one, it's an executable file, just make sure you follow the directions for RUU.

worked like a charm! thanks so much!!!
now to try putting a new rom on here again lol....
For future references I suggest not updating the OTA since its known to cause a lot of problems due to radio discrepancies. I'm glad you were able to fix yours though.

[Q] Installing a custom rom question

Hey guys,
I've never installed a custom rom and I was thinking of getting Cyanogen so I rooted my phone and got 6.xxxxx (forgot the number but the most recent one) CWM recovery but the recovery didn't work and it said "Long time no see". I did some research and I figured out that I need to unbrick my phone in able for CWM to function properly. Can someone just confirm and perhaps briefly explain why i need to do this. It seems hard and dangerous and if I could I would prefer to avoid doing it to get a custom rom. If I do need to do it, is the stickied unbricking guide up to date and working?
On another note, I have unlocked my phone (using Rogers on a Bell phone). Will installing a custom rom do anything to stop that from working?
Thanks!

Yes you are correct you need to use the unbricking guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
The reason for this is LG locked the boot loader for ICS as a result it can only be installed through gingerbread. If you have Windows 7 and not xp you could get errors during the kdz install portion. If that's the case use this to install the kdz file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149211
Then return to hereric's guide to complete the process. Good luck.
In regards to your 2nd question it shouldn't. But to be on the safe side it can only be unlocked from a stock ROM so I would install one of the many cwm installable cwm based on v20(x) first. ie. V20c, d, e or f. Then go to any ROM.

Thanks Ok i guess I understand it now, so this whole unbricking is just downgrading your OS.
And I have windows 8 that wasn't an option Anyway i'm in the process of unbricking atm following your instructions i'm currently installing the kdz. I'll let you know how it goes but thanks a lot for the help, I really appreciate it.
