I am on acs cwm and just want go to standard blue cwm. I can't read acs recovery very well and hardly at all when I am outside. On the cyan/blue cwm I can read it better. When I dl the recovery and flash it in acs recovery it goes to the cwm I want but it doesn't stick.
Do you mean it goes back to acs? Or it reverts back to stock recovery?
Try odining in the .tar for cwm5 ill link it

when you flashed the acs recovery, did you also install the "SU EGFH" zip file also? you need to do that as well.

Very simple, I odined the recovery tar and it replaced the acs recovery. I could care less about old backups. Now it 3 finger boots cwm instead of acs. Thank you!
Download ROM Manager then choose Install Recovery and then at least through ROM Manager you will have CWM 5.0.2.7. But Biggie is right to say try to odin it in.

That doesn't work if you came from stock el30 and used acs method. Rom manager downloads a flashabke recovery and you can flash it from acs. It will take you to cwm after you flash it, but it will not survive a reboot.
This Odin method made cwm stick and now is my recovery.

Did you try hitting your phone with a rolled up newspaper...bad phone, bad phone!
Seriously, what recovery are you using? If it is Bonsai recovery then that is your problem. It is not working well with EI22 ROMs. Install either CWM 3.1.0.1 or the official 5.0.2.7 which is now supported by ROM Manager (in the market). Flash the zip file found in the 5.0.2.7 thread in development, download ROM Manager and click install clockwork and select Samsung Epic 4G and you should be fine.

I have encountered this problem before. Deffinately the recovery in this case.. I reccomend getting the CWM recovery for your phone, and following the standard recovery flashing procedure from adb shell. This alway fixes the error when there is not another underlying cause

You need to update your cwm... most of the new roms are not going to be compatible with that cwm... get 5.0.2.7... your probably going to have to odin back to ec05 and start over.. when you flash a cwm from rom manager it only boots to that one when you use rom manager but when you three finger boot it uses the one you rooted with or manually flashed...

No, after root flash CWM 5.027, use 3 finger to boot back into CWM then flash CleanGB ROM. Then after that you can update the CWM in ROM Manager.

So when you go into recovery, it goes into boot without you doing anything?
Couple things.
1. Do NOT use rom manager with the SGSII e4gTouch. The kernel is tied to the recovery and NOT stand alone. You're begging for a brick if you do this using rom manager.
2. If you read the HITMAN thread, you'll see most of the folks are having the same issue. flash gunslinger or stock kernel with older CWM and you'll be back to normal. Prob. need to use ODIN.
3. For the OP, you posted the same issue in that thread where appropriate, was it really needed to do another thread with the same thing?
The new touch recovery seems to be nothing but problems. I flashed it with hitman and didn't like it so I went back to rogue recovery.

still new at this but have you tried the E4gTautoroot and flash the el29 stock kernel+cwm and then use cwm to reflash the Hitman kernel? You can use it as an alternative to flash an older cwm recovery and then update again

1. I didn't know that.
2. I tried to flash using odin but it kept saying something about md5 hash invalid, or something like that. Was not able to flash unless I was doing it wrong.
3. I think posted this thread before I saw other people having the issue in the other thread
do this:
1)go and search for the rogue stock rooted el29 recovery and download the zip
2) unzip it and with the zimage (forget about the other file)
3)do it into a tar file(should be as easy as doing a zip with winrar or winzip)
4) go to odin and use this file in the pda area and start it
this should solve it...worked for me
here are my ¢2 cents

Ok, So i've successfully rooted my epic 4g touch and I successfully installed the rogue CWM found on this forum. Now whenever I try to flash the CM7 zip (trying to get AOKP), it will only boot into CWM and the phone won't boot. I've tried re-rooting, wiping dalvik (gives me volume patch error), and wiping cache, etc.
Any help?

You don't need to install CM7 to install AOKP.
Try this: ODIN to stock EL29, use one click root (choose option C, then I (this'll root your device and give stock CWM recovery)).
Then boot into recovery, flash AOKP, gapps and FD02 modem if you'd like.

Really? Interesting. Ok well most people are actually flashing AOKP and Codename from the EL26 CWM that is linked in the OP of those threads. That is actually how I have flashed over 15 times with different builds. So if you can Odin EL26 with clockwork mod you should be able to flash AOKP after you flash a calkulin format all to wipe all relevant partitions and don't forget to install Google apps.

Yes, root works a bit different on this phone. Pretty much every single rom available will provide with root and superuser when it is installed via some sort of custom recovery or Odin. Odin is actually a very safe and convenient method of flashing.

Hmm that's strange. A lot of people definitely have the fast zip installing issue but when they flash it for the second time without ever rebooting recovery or the phone it takes a good 15+ seconds to flash and it successfully writes to your phone and boots up. Going back to stock certainly can't hurt. Perhaps start from there.

Have you tried to get back into download mode? If you can then I'd suggest using Sfhub's one-click EL29.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in to help out.
In CWM recovery you can mount the internal or external memory so you can put a different ROM/kernel and flash it right in recovery. But still as Eso said it's best to get into download mode and use Odin
Not sure what you did and how you did it. Need more details. A lot more details. But if you can get to download mode (hold the power button + volume down till the boot screen shows), I'd follow Esoteric68's advice and use the one-click EL29 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101 or try the EL26 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623684. Make sure you use the 'Full Reset' options.

This one. I had the same experience and was able to go DL mode. Download the one-click odin rom from sfhub's thread (having kenel included one) and flash it.
All he did was flash the El26 CWM kernel we all use in ICS to flash from Rom to Rom, he is safe on where he is at.
The reason he gets boot loops is because it's a GB kernel and not an ICS kernel. The GT-I9000 is normal when using this file and happens to everyone right now when they use it.
He can flash a new Rom and such from where he is at, or if he wants to keep his current Rom he has to find an ICS kernel to flash through CWM that he has.

I told you this would happen in our PM conversation yesterday. I told you it would be OK and you would just have to boot into ClockWork Mod recovery from there and flash a ROM/kernel/modem.
