I'm looking for a premium leather case for my new Galaxy Note and so far the only two that I've found that meet the quality I'm looking for would be the Piel Frame iMagnum and the Noreve Tradition. Which do you think is the better of these two or is there another case you can recommend that's made of high quality leather?

It would be hard to take a picture using piel one as you need to hold top cover part

I also just purchased a Note and also looking for a case. I also am debating between the same two and am leaning towards the Noreve since it opens down. The cover opening from the top will get in the way more. Price is also better.
Piel frama has actually a problem with the magnetic closing mechanism. The s-pen is not working there. They are working on it, and will drop the magnetic thing.
Noreve delivers after 15-20 working days after purchase.
... tapat*lked
I'm waiting on the official brown leather flip case. It looks super.

That doesn't surprise me in retrospect. The wacom pen is magnetic.
I ordered the noreve. Another benefit is without the (maybe now gone) wraparound clip, it should be more pocketable.

I saw the brown leather one in a German Youtube video and thought it looked pretty nice but that is the only place I've seen it and I can't find it anywhere for pre-order. I only see the blue, white and black versions of the Samsung flip case.
TBH, I remember getting a Piel Frama leather case for a PDA once upon a time which looks just like the one they have for the Note. it was bulky, the belt clip was probably cool then but as the Note is so slim anyway I'd not see any reason to bulk it up even further with that design.
The official leather sleeve looks a better option to me. Currently using the flip cover and it's great, but if it turns out to be too bulky for a dock then a slim sleeve would be my next choice. A belt clip is so 2005 .
Yeah I'm not interested in using a belt clip regardless if the case I buy comes with one. I'm just wanting to find something that will protect the device but also is made from a high quality soft leather that feels like it somewhat coincides with the price of the Note.
It looks like Piel Frama has already updated the case to replace the magnetic closure with a snap judging by the new photos on their website.
I bought a pielframa magnum case in the past for my HTC HD and the quality was suburb and the protection also because its a hard case but very disapointing it made the HD twice as thick and I suspect that will be the case with the note as well .
So if you want good protection the pielframa case will do the job no doubt.
But for me I wait untill I can buy the original samsung pouch to keep the note pocketable

Hi Frank, so how does the noreve case turn out? Thinking of getting it as well.

I'll post a review once I get it.

Alright, I finally got my case.
I plan on posting a video review shortly, but initial thoughts:
It's a very nice case. It just looks very classy.
It looks much more professional than the PDair case posted in the other thread.
You kind of push/snap the Note into the case. It is quite secure.
Changing batteries might be annoying.
It does not make the Note much bigger - it adds maybe 2mm to each side.
The clip is well done and I like that it doesn't add to the thickness.
It is thicker (as will all 'covered' cases be, since you need 'hooks' to hold the phone in, and the cover on top of that).
Thickness was never an issue with the Note in terms of pocketability though.
One annoyance is that the cover is about 1mm wider than the rest of the case.
It's not a lot, but you definitely notice it when it's folded back and you're holding it that way.
It kind of digs into your hand a little bit. Not a lot, but noticable.
There is a metal logo on the top right corner of the lid. Their logo has a metal 'ball'. I'm wondering what effect this has if you drop the phone face down, since that's the initial point of impact. I might be overthinking this.
Some things probably generic to all cases:
If you use the belt clip (which I won't), you have a metal 'rachet' which does on the back. If you have that on the phone is a bit awkard to hold in your hand. It's poking into you, or if you have the back flap folded back, makes the phone quite thick.
One very noticable thing - on the 'naked' Note, the power button is higher than the rest of the Note (on that side), making it very easy to accidentally press. It's a common complaint. Now that the case is higher than the power button, it's quite difficult to accidentally hit the power button. That's a very good thing.
One subtle perk of a bottom flap is that you can hook your little/ring finger around the 'hinge' and you can get a little more reckless with how you use your thumb, without fearing dropping the phone.
It'd be nice to have the Piel Frama to compare. I suspect it's lusher, softer, and thicker, but it's also 45 euro more expensive. I'm pretty happy with my choice.
- Frank
I don't have any experience with a Norêve case (looks quite nice BTW), but I own 2 Piel Frama cases.
Soon it will be replaced with the Note, but now for almost 7 years I've been using my iPAQ hx4700 daily with a Piel Frama case.
It's really of exeptional quality (leather, stitching, fit) and still looks as if only used for a few weeks.
I also used a Piel Frama case with my former PDA for about 3 years, with the same experience.
It's true though, as written before, that the Piel Frama cases add some bulk.
But they certainly have a stylish professional appearance.

I do like the look of the Norêve case and agree that the flap opening to the bottom is practical, specifically for securing the Note with one hand (especially if you have smaller hands, as I do).
I'm curious which type and colour leather you've chosen for the Norêve case and if it looks in real life the same as on their website.

Hey,
to those who already have the case by norêve: what about the closing mechanism? This one produced some very ugly scratches on the plastic surface of my old mobile phone. So, I thought of never buying one with this closing mechanism again, but rather one with a magnetic one. But magnetic is bad for the Galaxy Note as the Pen won't work well.
So, what do you think about the norêve - will it be producing damage to the phone?

how does it feel when you flip the cover all the way (so it's in your palm) and hold it that way? I feel like the cover should be a mm or two less wide.

It's a curved piece of leather - I don't see it doing any damage.
It sort of bends 'over' the top of the phone and holds the cover there.
It works pretty well - no complaints there.
One last amusing thing - the case almost covers the top microphone hole. I kind of think they weren't aware it is there.
- Frank
I've had the Noreve for a couple of days now.
It is just perfect. Looks good. Functions good. Solid. And the leather smells like high quality leather, not some cheap crap.
I could not get a cheap case for a 600 euros phone. That's just not me.
The piel frama could be good also but I thought I could not take pictures with it so I went for the Noreve.
Cheers.
Hey guys,
Back to making vids! Sorry for the month-long break!
Got my hands on the Incipio Silicrylic for the Galaxy Nexus, this is a two-piece hybrid style case that features a hard plastic exterior with a soft silicone interior. Fit on the phone is perfect and all cutouts are accessible, this case offers a decent level of protection for everyday use and is quite stylish as well. Check out the full review for all info!

Welcome! I've got a review on the SGP Ultra Capsule coming up soon as well. Stay tuned for that.
Good review. I'm glad you mentioned the gap at the back (something I noticed with my own Sylicrilic, on my GSM phone) and the flimsy sides, which really bugs me. I wish they extended a 1 cm small section of the plastic over the sides which would have helped control this problem.
Looking forward to the capsule review (I'm considering that case). Please mention if the case follows the contour display along the front, and if there is a gap on the back for the GSM version, similar to the Sylicrilic.

Thanks for the feedback! I've posted the review of the capsule case now - I didn't exactly mention about the contour display, but I did mention that there is great attention to detail with regards to case construction, and it does follow the curved display.
On a GSM version without extended battery there is a very, very, very! slight gap, which does not bother me at all. I'm using the case with the extended battery and it fits a little tight, but I prefer it that way.
Hope I helped! Thanks for being a viewer!
i got this case today with the verizon version of the phone. im also using the extended battery. but i am not using the battery cover since i didnt like the gaps on the side. is it safe to use the phone without the battery cover and just the case?
Can confirm there is no gap on the VZ version (and it's all black instead of two-tone). Had it for several days and works wonderfully.

I wouldn't say it is safe, but you should be fine for the most part. The only issue I see arising is if you were to drop the phone, it could cause the battery to move and turn off the phone.
Does anyone know of a belt clip that works with this case?

thanks for the review man.
the awful flimsy sides really ruined it for me. i actually had this case on order from amazon for $20 , and canceled it after seeing this review. the edges of the front flapping aroundlike that looks terrible compared to some of the much tighter fitting tpu cases.
glad i read this forum occasional as that gave me the heads up to get the cruzer lite case for half the cost.
Thank you for taking the time to do a review. Wish I had watched it before getting this case. The look is great but I have trouble getting the plastic secured to the rubber part of the case. However, it will work with the Samsung 2100 mAh extended life battery, and it has taken quite a bit of abuse from me, so it is doing its job.
Trust me, I've read about 200 topics in this section and searched over ebay and amazon. At this point it looks like my best bet would be the ottorbox commuter case. I want something that isn't too bulky that still protects my phone. I have an OEM VzW 2100mah extended battery w/ back door.
Honestly I don't really see any difference in the size of the phone so I wondered if that would work? Also any feedback from an owner of the ottorbox commuter case would be awesome. Just as well, if you found a better case let me know.
I've read hundreds of reviews and they all contradict other cases reviews.
Example: Review on case A. "I've tried that case B for my phone and it was awful! Too bulky and annoying. This is perfect!"
Then you go to case B's page and you see the same thing.
"Just got this is the mail to replace case A! That piece of junk makes the phone way too bulky and annoying. I love this one though, so much better!"
It's really frustrating lol. Hoping to get some input from actual nexus owners here. So. Best protection without affecting the overall size and shape of the device. Also, none of those little cheap slip on plastic one. Needs to work for a drop, not just scratches in my pocket. Thanks in advance...

Stop wasting money on phone cases when you can buy a new rear housing on eBay for $25. I've dropped my naked nexus plenty of times and the worst that happens is the battery door pops off along with the battery but never any major damage. I do however use a ghost armor screen protector.
Here is a link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/160852983518?redirect=mobile
But if you absolutely must have a case I recommend the seidio surface. Link: http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus-surface-case-holster-black-p/bd2-hr3ssgnl-bk.htm

Just because you have dropped it without severe damage doesn't mean someone else won't. A screen protector helps scratches, not drops. I "wasted" money on a otterbox and couldn't be happier with it. Not sure with series of case it is, but it has helped a lot. I'm not sure how well this case would work with a extended battery though.

Sure a housing is only $25 but look how much the front glass is.
Cases are a very subjective thing. Somone's favorite case could be another's least favorite. Only thing you can do is view the pros/cons to each case you are interested in or check it out yourself.
I have the Seidio Active with the prop up tab thingy (which works well) and I am very happy with it. $20 on amazon vs $35 on Seidio's site.

The money will not be wasted, thanks. I work at a stone masonry. If I happen to drop my phone, it's going to land hard on a lot of rocks. A simple clip isn't going to get the job done.
I know this sort of thing depends on the user, which is why I'm asking for your experiences with cases. Success stories and failures. Naturally I want something that isn't going to double the size of the phone and make it awkward to hold in my hand. At the same time I don't want a phone condom. *Those slip on rubbers *
Say I find a case that looks nice and has decent reviews on Amazon and buy it and it sucks and someone here says "Well I could have told you that..." etc.
Also something that doesn't keep me from being able to press the very edges of my screen. My otterbox did that with my X2 and drove me crazy.
Sent from my Paranoid JellyBean
Most of the bulkier cases are going to go right to the edge of the screen. I've never personally been a fan of Otterbox but the Trident Aegis is a similar case and comes in a variety of colors.
I like the Nillkin cases... They are slim, nice looking and hard enough to protect your device...
I've had the same question as the OP for a while now but have not really posted about it because there is a case thread stickied (though outdated). I have the ringke slim which looks nice but offers minimal protection and will eventually fade/crack (I've had two). I know seidio now has a line of cases just for the OEM extended battery and I've had good luck with them in the past.

With my two previous HTC phones I said the same thing. But with the GNex that's not the case. I dropped mine once from about two feet(got caught in a plastic bag I was pulling out of my car) and it got a chip in the back. Sgp neo hybrid is not perfect, but the most bearable protection I've found.

I received my (GSM) phone with an Otterbox Commuter, and it was a little too bulky for my tastes. Also, the gummy rubber surrounding the screen makes it difficult to slide it smoothly in/out of a pants pocket. Picked up a Mercury TPU case off eBay for $7, and haven't looked back.
Dunno about the best case, but I picked up the Dizio case for about 10 bucks for my GSM model and it's been all I've needed so far. It's slim and has protected the phone from a couple of drops; fits with the 2000mAh battery and extended back, which isn't all that extended, actually; and comes with a screen protector. I was thinking about only keeping it until I found something better, but haven't even looked for another since I put it on. Side note: my sib liked it enough to get one for her Gnex.
I have a Cruzer Lite Androidified A2 case for mine. Its not a heavy duty case by any means, but it's nice looking and gets the job done. My concern is more with pocket scratches and stuff than drops though.

Well I hope I can offer some valuable input for you here dude.
I will put my vote in for the Seidio Convert Combo case, which they make compatible w/ the 2100 mah extended battery (which is actually exactly what I have). I wrote a review on amazon of this case... but i'll post it here and modify it a bit since I have actually been able to use it now for a while.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
wow, really? $32 for this beastly case? This is an amazing deal. Anyway, I wanted to post this out there for those of you considering this case.
I was looking for a case that would be beastly when I needed it to, that covered all ports (including the camera - which none others do that I'm aware of), and that worked with the stock and extended battery without having to remove the battery cover/door (the extended case works with both by the way). This is the only case that met all of these demands.
One of the things I love about this case is that it's multi-layered!! I can disassemble it when I'm at home, going to church, or whatever other relaxed environment I'm in, and simply slide it into my pocket while still retaining some protection (i.e. the surface case still stays on, you just take off the rubber bulky part that makes it "thick"). This was one of the issues I ran into with other cases... the otterbox defender case is too bulky and rubbery to slide in and out of your pocket... the otterbox commuter series is too slick (i.e. hard plastic) making it hard to hold onto - not to mention it doesn't come with a clip. Some of the others were too rubbery to slide in and out of your pocket... this Convert combo seemed the perfect solution! The surface case has a matte finish to it, making it not too slick to slide out of your hand, but still slick enough to where it won't attract tons of lint and debris from your pocket.
The exterior shell of the Convert is nice because it has a nice rubbery grippy feel to it... you aren't about to drop this thing!
I have the 2100mah battery & door from Verizon, and got this case for it. It fits perfectly with the battery door on!
Another nice thing about this case is that it comes with a belt clip/holster that holds your nexus with the screen facing inward. What's nice about this is that, when I take my phone off and set it on a counter or something, I go ahead and clip it into the belt clip and lay it there. This way, if it gets knocked off it has 360 degree protection due to the belt clip entirely covering the screen. You can tell that the belt clip is high quality... it has a spring operated clip and has a feature where you can actually lock your phone into it so it won't accidentally "bump" out! I love this feature since I have 4 children =) I have been using this case & clip for about 6 months now and haven't had the first thing break on me... I don't really drop my phone often (have a few times) but I have complete confidence in this case to protect my phone. The clip is going strong as well!
For those of you wondering, no the belt clip won't work with just the surface case - you would have to get the surface clip for that.
As far as screen functionality go, it is a little tight getting to the very edge of the screen, but I have not had any issues with it, even when moving an app from one screen to another (if you need to, the rubber on the edges of the screen will flex a little bit allowing for more movement toward the edge).
I also loved that it did not come with a built-in screen cover, but rather came with Seidio's "Ultimate Screen guard" which I absolutely love btw (I posted a review on Amazon of this as well). So now I have full functionality of my phone with almost total protection! (update: the screen protector works great! It does scratch, as does any screen protector, but still maintains that "high def" look and feel to it).
Both Seidio and Otterbox seem to have about the same warranties: 1 year from date of purchase. I cannot find anything on either of their sites indicating that they will replace their products if they break from a fall. I also have no experience with either customer service.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
now that i've had a chance to use it a while, i'll give some more input. The more I use it, the more I like it! One other feature I don't believe I mentioned, is that the clip/holster that comes with this case has an option to where you can "lock" the phone in place, in case you're in a rigorous environment (like stone working) and don't want it to accidentally get released allowing your phone to fall to the ground... it works good for the most part - you pull this piece of plastic up to lock it and push it down to allow it to be released. See the picture attached.
If I am not carrying my phone on me but have placed it on the counter or desk or something, i either leave it in the holster or take it out of the holster (in the full convert combo casing) and leave it face down. The rubber of the case really grips any slick surfaces, making it nice and grippy so it won't easily slide off of a table or counter or something.
I work in law enforcement... so most of the day, I am in my patrol car. I normally leave my phone in the holster, clipped on the passenger visor all day. I have had absolutely zero issues with it falling, bending the clip, or anything. it works perfectly too, cuz I use my 3.5mm jack on the phone (which works perfectly in the full case, even when clipped into the holster) to listen to music all day on my cd player via pandora .
I really like that the camera, headphone jack port, and charging port are covered when the full case, but yet I can slim my case down to the surface case and leave them all uncovered when I want to.
On that note, I love the surface case! The surface case does actually allow your fingers to hit all the way to the edge of the screen... you will have no issues with this at all.
In conclusion, this thing is a beast!!! But yet it doesn't have to be since you can slim it down if you want. That is a huge strength to this case in my opinion. The only downside whatsoever to this case IMO? well, you have to take it off once in a while and clean inside it as it tends to get dust/dirt down at the bottom under the surface case which scratches the plastic on the bottom of your phone somewhat (not the screen though). I don't really know of a phone case to where this wouldn't be an issue though... anyway, hope this helps!

I love the cruzerlite cases for light protection.. however, with my gsm gnex, 2 of the 3 cases I bought are kind of loose. I'll assuming they're made to fit the extended bat. The argyle case is the only one I have that actually fits well.
Anyone have other tpu recommendations that snugly fit the gsm version with standard battery? I hope I can return these androidified ones that are too big.

I have the Seidio Active Combo (came with my phone when I bought it) and I would highly recommend it:
http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus-active-case-holster-black-p/bd2-hk3ssgnl-bk.htm
I have never been one to use cases on cell phones but I really like this case and can see my self using it quite a bit (probably just because my phone is still new and I want to keep it nice for as long as possible). I don't think I will use the holster much but the rubber case and then the hard shell case that snaps on over the rubber case seems like a really good idea. The hard shell piece that snaps on gives added protection on the corners and the back of the phone but you can take it off if you don't want the slightly added bulk and weight.
I've been using mercury brand tpu case. It's about $4.98, but shipping from Korea took about 2 weeks, but was free, so no complaints there. I also was given an SGP ultra hybrid case as a gift. Absolutely love it.

Diztronic case fits snug with the standard battery and even stretches a little for the GSM Extended.

I have the smokey one and like it a ton.
I have a few cases for my GS3 and only have one with a belt clip (Otterbox Defender). I'm looking for a case, maybe even a leather wallet case, that has a belt clip somehow already attached to the case itself. Anyone come across one or know of anywhere I could find one??
Please help... Thanks! :fingers-crossed:
I like the Large Nite Ize Sideways case when my GSIII is naked or wearing a slim case. The velcro closure is secure but noisy, and the clip is slim and just pliable enough to minimize the effect of having a near tablet strapped to your waist. Around here REI carries them for ~$13.
I appreciate the responses guys.. I really do.. :highfive:
...Although, what I'm really searching for would be one of a kind. You guys post links to simple leather pouches or cases that slide out from a seperate belt clip. What I really want to find is a case that combines the two (nothing seperated). I want a case that has the belt clip feature embedded into the case itself.
Is what I'm asking for make sense or even economical? Thanks again..
Try the rokbed case. there's a thread here for it.
:good: There we go! That's as close as we're gonna get to what I'm describing! Thanks bro :highfive:
And for others who are still curious of what I was looking for.. rokform.com/cart/Galaxy-S3-Cases/
Any one else still know of any other options thats just like the rokform case? Please post!
if you search amazon for "samsung s3 clip" you'll get a few results to choose from. $45 is a bit much for a case..
what's your budget?
Go to bestbuy and they have yge platinum series xase for like 35$ it a case with belt clip

Budget isn't really a concern as of right now.. I just want to see what's out there first then make a decision then.
Remember this post is only about a case with a clip attached to the case itself. Not one with a separate belt clip! I can find a million of those!!

Try PDair.com, they've got a neat set of belt clip cases for GS3
I've been quite tempted to get one of those RokForm cases. They may be expensive, but they have a great design to them. Somehow i find the addition of the magnet to the back of the case to be quite interesting and potentially very useful. Though i doubt it would really help with NFC use.... i don't really ever use NFC, so that wouldn't really bother me. Still.... $45 IS quite a lot for a case.
read Amazon belt clip reviews
I was going to order the v3 until I read the Amazon belt clip reviews (since it's sold separately these reviews are only on the belt clip not the case itself), about 10 or 11 out of 13 are negative for various reasons. Shame because I need a belt clip case that allows the screen to face outward and very, very few cases that offer a reasonable amount of protection do that. After now spending over 20 hours online researching for one I am all ears for anybody's suggestions. I have dismissed the Otterbox Defender & Griffin Survivor because I use anti fingerprint screen protectors and their built in screen protectors really load up with fingerprint smudges. Only case I've found so far is the aluminum Monaco and it has the exact features I want but I'm trying to get some user feedback from those with aluminum cases as I've read they can effect the phone radio and GPS.
In essence, I'd like to find and order a case immediately and move on with my life..........lol

Have you thought about going with the Griffin or Otterbox Defender and the using an "exacto" knife to remove the plastic covering they come with? I use my Otterbox all the time with the screen out, and even though I have the stock screen cover on it because I work part time at an ice rink and don't want the extra moisture exposure that would come with doing this. However, I did it to my wife's Skyrocket Defender case and she loved it when she was running because it was both outward facing and still in a super-secure clip / case.

I was going to order the Otterbox Defender last night until I viewed Otter's website and 29 of 46 reviewers stated they would not recommend it to a friend. There were many complaints about the rubber outer case coming lose after 2-3 months and various other complaints. Many stated they were longtime Otter users and were very disappointed in the overall quality. Also, on another forum a user stated you can't effectively remove the built in screen protector because there isn't a way to remove the adhesive residue. I was going to live with the fingerprint smudges until I watched a You Tube Griffin Survivor review tonight and I'm thinking you'd have the same adhesive residue issues trying to remove its screen. I honestly can not believe I'm having this much difficulty finding a screen outward facing belt clip case. My Captivate has a Body Armor case that is exactly what I want in terms of protection and features but most unfortunately Body Glove does not offer the same case for the S3.
I'm going to start a new thread asking for suggestions, thanks for your reply.

i removed the screen protector on my defender. The glue is more like cling u just pull and it comes off clean. But i would consider the ballistic sg maxx over the defender. Im gonna order it soon.
I watched a You Tube review of the Ballistic SG Maxx and most unfortunately it is a screen facing inward case only. There's a sticker stating that on the holster. That is a fine looking case and I'd buy one tonight if it were screen outward. If I can't find an outward facing one (and after all the research I've done am thinking I won't find one) I will probably buy either the Seidio Active Extended if it fits my Akron car dock and if not the Ballistic.

I'm a sales rep at a Verizon store, one of our customers came in with this weird gadget on the back of their phone. I asked them about it and apparently they invented it. To make a long story short I'm currently testing it out for them and one of it's features is a belt clip, or rather a pocket clip that works with some belts too. The advantage is that it can turn almost any case into a belt/pocket clip without ruining the case. I'm not supposed give out too much information about the product but it's really wicked cool and should be out sometime next "year" they say.
That's a solution I'd be interested in! Could you find out a better eta from the people you got it from and possibly post a pic of what it looks like.. Thanks!

I find I am really missing having a kickstand which I had on my Galaxy Nexus case.
I've looked some but there doesn't seem to be much out there with a kickstand.
I tried buying a Cruzerlite but it never came in so I got a refund. I'm not really interested in trying the same brand again.
What cases have you seen available with a kickstand?
did you do a search on amazon..."nexus 5 kickstand"....there's a ton out there, just that too many of them look like they add too much bulk for my liking. honestly, i prefer the tpu cases...my last 2 phones had them and i couldn't tell you how many times i dropped them...i already have 2 cases but think i'm going to order this one...i kinda miss the kickstand as well
How about this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551409
I did not search Amazon on those keywords.
Tons to look at. Thanks.
If anyone has one they like, post up a link anyway.

This is what I'm using now for my black Nexus 5, fit & finish is fine, no huge gap on the bottom at the micro-usb & speaker/grill openings (unlike the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case)
It's a 2 piece design, the hard plastic w. the flip out kickstand can be removed. It is slim enough that I have no problems slipping it in and out of a canvas vertical belt pouch for extra protection when I'm outside, otherwise, it's in my coat or jacket pocket.
It isn't that much bulkier and looked rugged & sturdy enough for the N5 to survive a drop (no plans to find out either ....)

When I get the chance, I can update this with a few quick photos - seller is in Ohio & shipped free & fast, oversea sellers for less but with a longer wait, especially with holiday mail.
