Not sure what I should do here... - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Ok here's the situation and I'm looking for my best option as I have read quite a few conflicting posts. I am rooted with CWM running stock rooted EK02. Since yesterday I have been getting the new update pushed to me, and I keep ignoring it but its getting annoying. I have stuck with the stock rooted rom for so long because I like the fact that everything works...lol. So I was just curious what my best option here is, I'd prefer not having to re-root. Thanks for any help or opinions.

If you want to stay stock and rooted....flash the stock rooted EL29 ROM....it works great....it is the exact same as the OTA with root and busy box added

Thanks I appreciate it. I am thinking about just flashing another rom, but I want something that works as good as stock...just meaning that everything works, I'm by no means a fan of stock and I've rooted every device I've owned pretty much. I am not in a 4g service area so I don't care about that, but really need everything else. Any suggestions on a rom?...lol. Also if I flash a custom rom or if I do stock rooted EL29 will I still get the stupid push notification or can I block that or keep it from checking? Again I really appreciate the response.

If you are on EL29....no....for a good custom ROM I recommend calkulins E4GT ROM....very stable and very fast

Alternately, you can check out Calkulin's Stock Rooted EL29 rom.

Thanks a lot guys. Ill take a look at the threads and see which would be better for me. I'm honestly not a huge fan of stock at all except that everything works perfectly and I don't get random issues or force closes.

Same here except I've got two updates today! Sure wish it said what they were. I'm worried this is the update to force us to pay for tethering.

Phone GTI9100 logo with a yellow triangle at start of boot.

Hey guys, quick question: somehow during my installation of the blue kuban rom I must have gotten a wrong file, and now when I boot my phone it says the wrong version. Everything seems to work fine, speeds seem to be much improved from my stock rooted leak builds. Should I even worry about this?

This happens when you use an unofficial kernel and flash it a certain way. Its not a big deal. You can get rid of it using a usb jig or the app Triangle Away if you are on an ICS based rom.
Thank you for your fast response. Your contributions here are great. I thought it was nothing to worry about, as all the files I used had my phone version in the file title. It doesn't bug me at all, still goes into awesome blu kuban boot animation. LOVING this rom.

Just a side note for people having troubles with flashing ics roms, I've found that sometimes you need to try a different link for the same files if the first one won't work right. Would have saved me 3 hours of reading and trying in this case lol. Live and learn

Am I the only one that finds it odd that he/she (sorry your user name isn't really gender specific) is still getting this? I haven't gotten it since hell flashing early gingerbread leaks on this phone....
(I'm not saying that you are doing anything wrong or implying that something is messed up. Just saying I haven't seen/heard about that problem in a while.)

Flash any Gingerbread CWM kernel through ODIN and you will have it. Flashing a leak will not cause it, its signed by Samsung. Nor will flashing anything through cwm/mobile odin. Easy enough to remove from ICS since most of the people getting it are getting it from flashing the EL26 CWM kernel by Chris41G to flash an ICS rom safely.
Thanks for the clarification Rain. That is exactly what I did.

does anybody know if there is a complete version of gingerbread cm 7 for the epic touch? the only 1 that I could find was half done.

Long story short...this dev kangd cm7, stopped halfway thru, got a windows phone but kept telling peeps he was working on this rom. Happened with a couple other items like kernels also. Started something great, then moved on right away. ADD maybe?

Mostly yes.....give it a whirl, see if it works for you. I had it installed before.....think I got rid of it due to battery life though.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I'm definitely loving it the battery life seems to be good. Everything works perfect except for 4 g. And that's definitely not an issue for me since I have no 4 g in my area.

by the way in case anybody wants to know the launcher that I'm using is called holo launcher. It's just like apex and Nova. But you can use it on gingerbread. Ya know I just wish we had more options for EL29 roms and gingerbread roms like this. It runs sooooo smoooth. It would be awsome if a dev picked this up and finished it! I dont think it has a lot left to do either. Refine the kernel for better battery life and add some cyanogen settings that are missing. I wish I could dev.

Patience man! It'll be out soon enough and then people will be asking about the Key Lime Pie update. It never ends so just enjoy the options that are there and READ the forums to learn about those options.

Stable ICS ROM

Whats the fatest and most stable ICS which has a great battery life. Tried JB roms and I think there battery life is ok not good for day to day use in my view .
Tersus Status is really good. Battery lasts crazy long and runs smooth as hell. Isn't laggy like some ics roms can be.

Re-Calk 0.2.1 seems to be a good replacement for the old Blazer Rom 0.1.5 since he stopped updating.
I suggest running the Agat 6.2 kernel with the Re-Calk, seems to be a nice combo. If you want the data speeds though, do Agat's repacked kernels.
I usually to go back to Re-calk/Blazer Rom all the time after flashing every other rom under the sun just to test drive, but like every one else said, depends on your phone, depends how you tweak your settings, and it has been discussed before.

:good: Agreed. I've tested a quite few roms and kernels since being on JB and this is the current combo I've settled on (Re-Calked 0.2.1 with Agat kernel). You'll be glad to know it's also MHL HDMI out compatible as well...
Tersus Status- It is like the calk's gb for ics.! Way to go _dan!
