Help bypass activation of HTC - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i try some solution like cdma workshop, tap 4 corner screen, ##778 method but anyone of them are not working.
I'm here in Philippines and using verizon HTC incredible.
Thanks for helping me in advance

Are you running a ROM or just completely stock unrooted?

Hit the activation and then hit cancel 3 or 4 times in a row. The activation process will be bypassed after a reboot after you do this.

im just using a complete unrooted stock rom.

Are you going to be rooting it and putting a ROM on? If so, you should be able to boot into safe mode to bypass activation. I honestly don't remember the exact buttons to hold. I think you turn the phone of, then push power, volume up, and the trackball at the same time till it boots. Someone feel free to step in if I'm wrong.

Should just be power+volume down. Though stock may be different... it has been a long time since my inc was stock. Heh

wait am suppose to install a custom rom right?
power button+volume down is for recovery menu and their is no safe mode to choose from selection menu.
please help me guys
Sent from my MT11i using Tapatalk

I'm talking about an actual safe mode that disables most apps and should bypass activation. Here is what you do:
Turn off the phone
Remove and reinstall battery
Press power button once
Once the phone gets past the first HTC screen, hold power, volume up, and trackball until the phone vibrates
Once it finishes booting, you should see Safe Mode in the lower left corner.
Now you can root and install a custom ROM and never worry about activation again.
Oh and this safe mode works on rooted ROMS too.
The squeaky wheel may get the grease. But the ***** gets slapped. Quitcherbitchin!

What el6006 said should work. I did this a few times with a backup Incredible I have. Go as far as you can without actually activating, and then cancel (back up one step), and then repeat until it bypasses. I don't remember needing to reboot, but it may help.
Also, no customization is needed for this.

i did the safe mode but still don't work. huhuhuh...

epc hard reset

i just did a hard reset by holding down volume camera and power and now im getting a screen that says its downloading, do not turn off target, but its not downloading anything. is there something else i can do or should i just wait????
Sounds to me like you're in download mode (used for flashing firmware to phone). The only way I know to get to this screen is to hold the volume, power and the "1" key on the slide out keyboard. Don't know how u got to this without the use of the "1" but strange things happen.
Anyway, if you aren't tethered to your pc (connected via usb cable) and you aren't flashing a new firmware then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Just pop the battery out and reboot.
That is also not how you do a hard reset. It takes you to the recovery menu where you can do a factory data reset.

Volume UP + camera + power, while the phone is ON....this simply reboots the phone
Volume Down + camera + power while the phone is OFF. This boots to recovery.
Slide out kbd "1" + power, while phone is OFF.....this boots to download mode.
I'll be messing with it more thursday, hopefully I can figure it out, may have more questions then.

OMG! Have I bricked my phone?

Ok...short history.
Had Frosty JB on my phone, but being a flash-whore, I downloaded Slimbean to try out.
Did all the usual wipes, and on the main recovery screen, instead of choosing to find the zip file, I chose Roboot. I didn't think that would cause any problem. Just go back into recovery and choose the zip file.
Uh oh....now I can't seem to get back into recovery. When I try the different button arrangements, all I do is go to the main "Samsung Galaxy S III" logo....and it never changes.
Am I f****d?
Help! I've flashed ROMs on my Vibrant a 1000 times, and was having no problems with my new SG3, and now this.
Is slim an international rom?
If you can get to logo thers hope for now.
Try download mode. Hold volume down, home and power. Then press vol up when asked. Connect to pc and use Odin to flash stock firmware.
For recovery, hold volume up, home and power. When you see the blue text flash at top of screen release power but hold other two until you get recovery.
Only flash roms and mods from this forum!

Try power + home + volume up to get into recovery. Something similar happened to me where volume down + power would not let me into recovery, but the other combo would.
Keep trying different combos for recovery or download mode, as long as it's on it should be recoverable
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
If it boots to the logo screen then it is still alive... Are you on twrp? If so then hold volume up+ Home + Power. As soon as you see the blue little letters on top left then let go of power. Once you see the logo then let go completely. Always works for me when I try to enter recovery that way. Can be tricky at times.

I thought for sure I tried all of those combinations, but I must have missed one. Got into recovery.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Glad you got things straightened out. I soft-bricked my phone two days ago and I deeply know the feeling, we all do. I frantically paced around the house for 10 minutes, shouting every incoherent curse word I could come up with.

Sudden death?

My TMobile note 2 quit working last week. The battery was low and the phone was unused for part of the day. When I went to get it for charging, it showed this weird and useless screen. Since then I've tried charging, pulling and re inserting the battery, in all cases the most it will do is just the one weird screen as shown. I bought another battery and charged it fully before using, same result. It was unlocked but otherwise stock. I had not yet done the most recent update, I think it was on 4.1.1.
Is there anything else I can try before contacting Samsung?
Thanks.

Try to go into Download mode. Turn off the device then press Volume Down button, Home Key and
Power Button simultaneously. And then, press Volume UP button in Warning Page to enter the Download Mode. If you can get into the download mode, then flash factory stock rom with Odin. You can try to flash factory stock rom from Kies (run Kies from your desktop) as well. I am hoping the drivers for graphics is corrupted. If so then this would fix that problem.
If neither works then your only choice would be either warranty or insurance. At this point it is hardware problems. And there is nothing you alone can do to fix it.
Have you tried opening up the back and checking the display connection?
You can watch this video for guide, it's quite easy.

Stuck in Bootloop. Please help!

I'm on Liquid Smooth v2.1, Android 4.2.2. No custom kernel, just whatever it comes with. Been running fine for months.
This morning I dropped my phone in my car (a few inches drop) and it went into a bootloop. It eventually booted into Android and I backed up all my apps and texts to my SD card. But afterwards it went into another bootloop and now its stuck there. It will start booting, and then restart (most of the time before the boot animation even comes up). I need to get into recovery so I can restore an older Nandroid or maybe try wiping the cache. I have tried using power/volumeup/home, but it bootloops by the time recovery is starting up. ADB on my computer will not pick up the phone. Sometimes for a few seconds it will show up, but it has an "offline" next to it and by the time I enter "adb reboot recovery" it says no device found.
If I take out the battery for 30 seconds, it makes it pretty far into the boot.
What steps should I take next? I know ODIN is last resort, but I'd prefer not to go there. Thanks guys.
I have a similar problem I think the power button may be the issue, when it's boring up tap on the power button with your bail as you would on a table. Also try to put your sideways with power button down that may help.

Wow. That sounds like a possibility. Dropped from my lap to my cupholder, could've landed on the button. I'll try it in a bit.

I was able to get it to boot for a few seconds, and the power menu kept on coming up until it died. Does the phone turn off if you hold down the power button for a long time? Seems like I gotta get that fixed. I'll try the sideways suggestion in a bit.
Yeah, if you hold power and never let go, it'll reboot over and over. It's intentionally like that so if you ever have the system lock up you can still do a kind of hard reset. (Better than a battery pull, though that can still be necessary if you want it to just turn off)

That's what I thought. Anyone know the difficulty of repairing this myself? Or a cost estimate? Holding the button at an angle seems to make it work for a bit. Sideways didn't help.
I've heard there's some YouTube vids that may help. I've seen a few people say they were able to do it themselves.

this seems like a similar job for the s2, I would imagine that the s3 is very much like this video.

Anyone know if I were to remove the power button completely, would the phone work without it? I don't really need it, and removing it would make the phone usable. Just wanna make sure the phone doesn't run a check or something. I'll order a new power button in the spare time and install it later.

it'll prolly work but if phone shuts off not sure if you will be able to turn it back on without a power button, what I did for the time being is get the phone of and basically tap on the side of the phone with the power button towards the floor kind of like trying to get gravity to push the power swith inside to be back to the normal position. Then don't touch the power button, there are apps in the play store that can function as your power button.

Yeah, I watched a YouTube video and he fixed it like that. So I basically hammered the button as hard as I could with my nail for a minute straight and now it doesn't bother me anymore until you press it. I can live without the power button, but I'm probably going to have to remove/replace it since I can't risk bumping into the button on accident. Thanks for the help though!
Does anyone know of a method to turn the phone on without the power button? I know on my Nexus One you could Insert the battery while it was charging to force a reboot.
Afaik you'll just have to restart every time till it's fixed.

There's apps in the play store. Button savior might be one. Can't recall names for sure.

Battery pull required to get some things to work?

Hi all. Flashing my g/f's G Pro. First time working with this phone, though I've done this numerous times with my own phones. Also, she wanted to do it, I explained all the caveats, etc. (and I made a nandroid of her stock but rooted firmware).
Anyway, I use the root method described in a thread here, and it worked fine. Then I got FreeGee from the Play Store and used it to install TWRP 2.6.1.0. I then powered off, did the 3-button thing (power-vol up-home) to get into recovery, but the on-screen buttons aren't responsive. Did a battery pull, repeated the process, and it worked fine. Later on, I can't get it to boot into recovery with the 3 buttons, so I fire up adb, boot into recovery from there, but again on-screen buttons no worky. Battery pull allows the 3-button method to work again.
Then this morning, I try to flash gapps. Power menu reboot options don't seem to appear in CM 10.2 despite being set that way in its settings. 3-button thing doesn't work (I always end up back in CM). Adb sees the phone but tells me it's "offline". Do a battery pull to fix again.
Along with all that, some odd behavior around power off/on occurred, which I didn't document in detail. It made me think that the phone never really powers off, but rather goes into some kind of deep sleep (this is what made me think to pull the battery in the first place).
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else had seen that kind of behavior. It's not a big deal, since I can pull the battery to work around it, but it's something I've not seen with my phones.
(I will say that I'm amazed at the progress that has been made with this phone. I think last time I checked these forums a month or so ago this phone had just been rooted and there were no roms other than slightly modified stock.)
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4
After some more searching, I'm thinking that FreeGee may not be fixing the recovery issue as I first inferred. I'll have to try flashing madmack's "loki-fied" TWRP to see if that fixes it.
Bro. Power on by holding volume up + power. Hold that until you see the led lights blink twice and then once you see "boot success" let go of the buttons. This method is fail proof. Also, freegee is currently the best way to flash recovery FYI.

Because it's the most compatible, most frequently updated, and easiest to install.
