[Q] Controlling balance Popups originating from carrier? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm new on this forum, and i tried searching hard before i posted this question!
Is there any way to convert annoying popups into notifications or toasts?
These are not the browser popups, I'm talking about those popups received from carrier after every call made or message sent. These popups also appear after every twenty minutes of data access!
Its very annoying when you want to answer a call in the morning and you have to click through twenty such popups to do so!
Any help is much appreciated!
I'm Running arconium 6.1, unlocked bootloader on a Lt15i.

Thanks Pvy, here are the Screenshots!

This isn't an issue with the phone, but more so your network. To switch of these balance notifications I would either google how to do so for your network, or phone them up and ask how to switch it off.

If you phone your network provider theyll switch it off for you. I did the same. Im on o2 uk

I see your point, but disabling this entirely is a total overkill.
I just wanted to know if there's a way to display these popups as toasts, so that they disappear after a few seconds without my intervention
Thanks for that idea anyway... That would be my last resort! :-D

Voicemail Notification

Does anyone know how to disable the Voicemail notification?
I phoned Orange 3 times trying 3 different things like 123# and 2nd time they were doing something on there end which resulted me in turning my phone off and back on, then on the 3rd time, exact same thing.... But it's still there and really getting to me now lol
Any ideas anyone?

Do you mean it's there even though there's no VM waiting? If so, might be a bug in the FroYo ROM you're using...

Could try stock ROM...OR leave yourself a VM and listen to it. Delete it and see if then goes...
Had this problem with other phones on Orange.
Call customer support, and tell them to reset your mailbox. Thats the term they use.
Now its bringing back memories of my winmo Hermes, where I wouldn't get notifications, but when randomly checking my voicemail, would discover messages that had been left days ago without me realising i had a new mesaage, oh joy....
hi, i know this thread is like, welllll old, but im having the same problem, i have tried about 10 different roms (not to try and solve this problem!) and it is always there. my question is, would i need to go back to the stock 3uk rom in order to ring them and get them to reset my mailbox?

Have to ask for help again....Text message bug on HOX

I have a small problem guys....when my phone is in sleep mode i don't get my text messages....as soon as i get the phone awake instantly i receive the texts....what seems to be the problem? need help cz i need to manually wake the phone and look for text messages....
P.S i am on stock with 1.29 latest update.....not rooted or flashed....
I already had a thread but im deleting it and refreshing my question as i have not had any response from anyone except for 1 which is downloading power saver settings but that didn't do anything.....Please help...Thanx....
UPDATE: On some other forum which i was searching for on Google, someone had posted to clear the cache and do a factory reset which i did and still i have the problem...i mean as soon as i manually wake the phone from sleep....i hear the tone and text message light appears....but if there are two texts for example another one coming immediately after the first one, then it notifies for both the texts....
***UPDATE (Possible Fix)*****
After searching thousands of forums i have found the problem to be that of software. Couldn't find a fix for it but found an app on the Play Store that does the trick...The app is call SMSAwake. Write it exactly like this in Play Store and you will find that it works and actually wakes the phone up and text is received. Glad i found something..... Do respond if you find it helpful.....THANKS.....
Yeah I have simmer on my phone if i receive a text phone do not notify me when I get one sometimes it do but loads of times it don't.
I will get the text if i go look in my sms inbox then they show up iv had once where someone sent me a pic and it just disappeared from my messages before I could receive it.
Im on stock untouched this started happening after the ota update from O2 very annoying that this happens think it's a software fault thou.
I had the same with the fb app on other phones never told me of any notification but on my hox it works perfect but texts do what the fb app use to do lol.

It sounds like it's losing access to the network while it's asleep. What's your mobile network state showing? If the signal's strong it should be solid green.

I often had this problem on an HTC Touch Diamond with Windows Mobile. What was happening in that case was the text messages were received, but the interrupt from the radio to the CPU didn't always work, or the phone was waking up, but going to sleep a split second before the alert had time to sound.
To the OP, what have you installed by way of applications? Things like battery savers or shutting down tasks using task killers could be the cause.

Phil

Assuming you guys are using stock ROMs and radios it has to be something specific to the One X and the carrier you're using. It happens all the time because one universal radio designed to work everywhere is bound to have issues occasionally on specific networks. HTC just pushed an update to the Nordic countries that updated their radio so I'm guessing there must have been some specific issues identified. 2.X when it's released will have a new radio so that might help.
I assume the One X has fast dormancy enabled by default. That can be a problem on certain networks that don't support it correctly. Here's a link to a thread on fast dormancy from the SGS3 forum that might help. Beyond that, I'm not sure what else to tell you. All phones don't work equally well on all networks.

[Q] - Minor issue: Disable Wifi Calling Notifications

I live in an area where I don't get great service in the house, so I rely on wifi calling to use my phone. As a result, I get several notifications which get in my way, and I was wondering if there's any way to disable them.
An ongoing notification that "calls will be made over wifi", and a notification whenever I make a call, in addition to that one.
The much more annoying one: my desk (where I often use my phone) is just barely in range of my router, although I still get 2-3 wifi bars of signal. It's a stable connection, but every 5 seconds or so the phone sends a notification (emits a tone and displays a popup) that I'm near the edge of my wifi range and the call may drop (although it never does).
On my old phone, an HTC Desire (also android), there was a setting to disable this notification (and even when on, it only came once per call). But I cannot find that setting in the S4. Hate to ask what may be a simple question, but after quite a bit of searching I can't find anything on this topic.

Sorry that I don't have your answer, but wanted to add I have this same question, and i'm on the galaxy s3, but maybe someone else will answer. I suspect this is a T-mobile "feature", because I have terrible cell service even though their coverage map says it should be great. And when talking to tech support a few weeks ago they were quick to add "have you heard about wifi calling?" . I had, but wasn't sure I had settings correct. They walked me through it, and yeah, every since then I have had that persistent message in notifications. I thought there would be an option to unchecked "show notifications" but I also did not find any.
I suspect, just a guess, this may be due to a legal liability issue if for example it was an emergency and you try calling 911 and it fails due to bad cell service, they would want to be able to say "were you calling over our network or over wifi?" WiFi it seems would let them off the hook if the call did not go through that way. They'd be able to blame it on "your internet service provider" and not t-mobile. That's the only thing that makes sense to me. ... you might call their tech support, be sure you get to "level 2" help by specifying you're calling about "my galaxy s4 device", then ask them: why does this notification stay on? It takes up space on my notifications screen"

Unable to login to whatsapp, wechat and line but still can use facebook search engine

I am using Note 2 N7105 and was previously using the clean rom and had no problems earlier.
I flashed **[4.3][CM10.2][06.10]Team Asylum CM10.2 - Slim, Fast and Black Roma™** and soon start to have below mentioned problems.. I was advised by the developer that it is not a rom specific problem..
I realise I couldnt send or receive msg from whatsapp, wechat, LINE and other social messaging apps using 3g/4g connection but I could still use google search engine, facebook, google map etc. Wechat shows "Server access failure (1,237)".
I uninstalled and tried to reinstall the social messaging apps using 3g/4g connection, Play store shows an error of 413. however I could reinstall using wifi.
There is no problem with the social messaging apps when I use wifi.
I have tried a full wipe, restoring back to my Clean rom, change to other roms, reinstalling them. but I couldnt resolve the problem.
I am now currently using [ROM][10/05/13][4.3]BeanStalk 4.3.1001..
Can someone help?

For me I can't upload greetings to facebook by splanner, for friends birthdays. Sad and annoying situation and this is happend after I rooted my galaxy and installed custom rom. So I think it's related with rom and rooting, how and why have no idea.
APN Setting?
Sounds like it's your APN settings. Had something similar with 4.3.
Most network providers have a webpage that will automatically send the correct APN settings by text. Try that. If not, call them and ask them to send them out. Think it's a proxy problem caused by incorrect settings.

[Q] How to turn off pesky notification sound...started happening suddenly

I'm a long-time note 2 user and usually have no problem with settings. Out of
nowhere, my Note 2 started sounding a notification tone (first tone in the list)
and I haven't found a way to disable that notification. I think it's related to a secondary email
account... yahoo or Outlook perhaps. Tried the obvious options to turn notifications
off/on but nothing has worked. This thing is waking me up at all hours and disturbing
my lifestyle in general. The only way I've found to turn off the continuous sounding of the tone is to touch the top notification bar. Such a hassle. Any real suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
This is bull$4!* I agree
This is bad enough to make me want to switch to an iPhone.
This has got to get fixed.

If only that were possible. With Android 4.3 the notification is for leaving and rejoining the 4Glte coverage area. For those of us that live on the edge of 4G lte coverage it makes for a long annoying night. I have emergency notifications that I DO need at night, but not the damn network change every 5 minutes.

UPDATE from SPRINT
I talked to Sprint. They have confirmed that many ppl are complaining about the constant "upbeep" and "downbeep" tones. I understand it is not just 4Glte/CDMS coverage change, but also Wifi and Bluetooth availability. They say Samsung is aware of the unpopularity of the issue and will have a patched version out very soon.
I have resorted to disabling 4Glte all the time and disabling WiFi and Bluetooth at night. this seems to be a reasonable short term work around.
Thanks for reading.
Sean
I've never had any notification tone for network/wifi mode changes. I'm not sure why the stock rooted MK4 ROM wouldn't have the same issue but it doesn't or this forum would be full of angry people. I assume you guys are on the stock unrooted MK4 Jellybean ROM? If so, I'm glad I told my wife not to allow the update on her Note 2. I'm currently on stock rooted MK4 ROM and have never had this type of notification. But I would hate it also.
With this all being said, time for you guys to visit the Note 2 Toolkit thread and get rooted! Just one more reason why people prefer to root their devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957155
Once rooted you will need to ask ROM devs for help in removing the network notifications. I'm sure there's an easy way to do this with Root Explorer file manager app but you must be rooted to gain access to the file system. This is my only advice because I'm pretty sure an update will not come soon enough for you guys. Updates come from Samsung then Sprint sits on it for testing etc, then Sprint pushes it OTA. You can root and fix the issue in a few minutes or wait and pray for an update.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. And Sean, thanks for talking to Sprint about this matter...I'm sure that all the suggestions here will help others with the same kind of issue I've been experiencing. For me, it's a wait and see kind of thing in that whatever the change in settings I make, it could take an entire day or even more to verify success in shutting down this maddening interruption.
There have been days when, because of a setting I changed, my phone would not ring at all when a call was coming in even though the ringer volume setting was at 100 percent loudness.
The good news for me is that as of this morning, I had an uninterrupted night's sleep last night which, obviously, could mean that I've finally stumbled into a solution. But I am reserving the 'Mission Accomplished' party for when I am absolutely sure my settings are the way they should be. I hate big let-downs, especially when they follow great expectations and celebrations of euphoria.
BTW, the latest changes I made were done inside Facebook's notifications preferences. It seems the Facebook crew are on a mission to keep its members fully involved in troubleshooting the 'traps' they set for us. Kinda reminds me of Hunger Games.
Fingers crossed now...maybe I'll have another full-night's sleep, but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.
Thanks again to all who pitched in their $000.02000. I'll update here any more results that might be helpful.

Have to admit that rooting is very tempting...thing is, I live in a new area and have no 'guru' type friends here and I'd be concerned that I'd get myself in a corner and not be able to get out. I just don't know enough about rooting to trust myself with doing it to my only smartphone. For instance, does rooting wipe all data completely? I'd have to back up everything I want to keep? And how would I do that backup. Will the memory be re-formatted? How do I know which apps work and which ones don't work on a rooted phone?
Yeah, you guessed it...I'm an old guy...66...and fairly savvy with being a PC/smartphone user...but I haven't studied coding since the mid-eighties and don't remember what I learned about it then. Still, I'm intrigued with rooting my Note 2. Maybe someday.

DrDubner, the Rooting Toolkit I linked to above is very simple and straight forward to use and it has very clear and easy to understand instructions within the user interface. Basically if you can read you can root your phone with ease. Also there is no need to backup anything on you phone or sd card (although it's always advisable just in case) because the root process does not change, delete, wipe, or alter anything other than enabling root permissions on your phone and flashing an insecure boot image & custom recovery in which you do not have to ever use and will not be visible upon normal day to day usage.
BUT with this being said, I would highly recommend that you do some more homework FIRST and find out exactly which app or system process/app that is triggering the notifications BEFORE rooting your phone. It may turn out to be something that can be fixed without rooting your phone and either way you go about this, you need to know the exact cause of the notifications before doing anything.
Hopefully you can get more specific info about your notifications and post them here for others to help you better. Like I said, I've never had the network notifications that you described... on any ROM stock or custom. Perhaps it's not network notifications and mabye it's a system app or user installed app that is triggering these notifications? Keep us posted so we can get to the bottom of this issue much faster than Samsung/Sprint patch update that may never come.
Yeah I've never heard of this problem. Stock 4.3 and my phone never beeps for coverage issues. Idk to me it sounds like there's an app set up to continue reminding you of an unread notification. Like the Messages app reminder feature. Plus he did say taping on the notification bar stops it so that means one of those notifications on the dropdown is the culprit and when you tap on the bar it resets your notification (no blinking or sounds). Maybe it's time for a factory reset.

I agree. It does sond like a repeat notification. The notification pull down should give you a clear indication of which app is giving you the notification. Double check notification settings within each suspect app itself. If you can't find it that way then uninstall suspect apps one at a time until you find the culprit. Facebook and other social apps would be a good place to start. Also check Sprint visual voice mail and your messaging notification settings. You might be surprised at the simple cause of this.
