Ok....search and cant figure it out....Been working on this for two days now......Wife has a g2 and I had to downgrade to root....I did that and everything seemed fine....I then Rooted phone and everything there seemed to be fine....I tgen wanted to download Virtuous Affinity rom but it said I had to DZ hboot...here is where i messed up.......I had made a backup of the stock rom yesterday so I put the PC10img on the root of sd card..rebooted into hboot and ran update by pressing volume up....after everything was done I went back into recovery and went to reload back-up of rom and all clockwork does is show reboot system ,apply update etc and down at bottom says E: cant mount/ cache/recovery/ command........etc
now I understand I dont have a rom after the flash but now I can put any on because when I hit any of the install from sd or back up and restore it goes to that page and just sits there.........I am so lost know and dont know what to do...can someone please help me
You probaby flashed the wrong pc10img file...check the md5 sum against that oof the file...another thing is you can try a higher recovery becuasue I remember when u flash a hboot it replaces the recovery...try flashing the latest version of clockwork via adb...if not that refer to the devs

Did you use the power button to try reload the rom from recovery? Cause that might be your problem.
Use the trackpad or camera button in recovery.

I understand the errors down at bottom is normal....but the day before I backed up rom so I didnt do that when it came to that in the directions......so now when I try to do anything in clockwork everything is there but when I try say restore rom or install from sd....once you click on it it stops......and phone will not load because there isnt a rom installed anymore
Maybe you could try flashing a different recovery image to your phone via fastboot. Perhaps try flashing 4EXT Recovery by madmaxx82. Then reboot into recovery via fastboot and see if it'll let you restore or flash a ROM. Just a thought...

Well I got a new replacement phone today and I was setting it up how my old one was. I rooted with no prob, installed forever with no problems. Then I went into ROM manager and downloaded the skyraider athena ROM and checked buttons for wipe data/cache and backup. I walked away for about 10 mins so it could do its thing, then it boots into recovery. I clicked REBOOT and it rebooted but went back into recovery again. it wont actually boot up all the way and only goes into CWM recovery. It is version 3.0.0.5 with orange text ( i used to have green,I think)
Please someone help me resolve this, I need my phone for navigation purposes like an hour ago. Please help! Thank you!

You will go back to a stock 2.2, from there try again. Next time you flash the rom, try downloading it from XDA here, put it on your sd card, boot into recovery, then flash. That might cut down on any errors you could possibly encounter.
Flash an older version of CWM, scroll to bottom of page in ROM Manager and pick say 2.0.5, but not v3

Yea you need a diff version of cwm 2505 actually then restore

What's going wrong?
If you just want the stock rom, but still be rooted you can either a) restore from your nandroid backup, assuming you made one; or b) flash the stock rooted rom.
If you want to unroot, you need to flash the s-on zip in recovery, then run the RUU from your computer or flash a PC36IMG of the RUU through the bootloader.
I'll elaborate more when you tell me what you've done so far and what you're trying to achieve - stock rooted or unrooted.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Download the latest stock rom. Can be found at shipped-roms.com, or in the MANY stickies and threads here. Place the zip on your sd card, along with the s-on tool.
Reboot to recovery, flash s-on, then flash stock rom zip.

Go to here and flash any one of the listed roms. These are all of the roms that came shipped with the HTC EVO. I suggest you download the any of the ones with PC36IMG in the file name because they can be flashed.

Make sure that in your attempts to go back to stock, you didn't go s-on. Boot into the bootloader and see if it says s-on or s-off at the top. You can do this by holding the volume down button and power button simultaneously until the phone turns on (you must have the phone turned off first). You'll see a white screen with skating Androids.
If you're s-on, you'll need to run an RUU from your computer or flash a PC36IMG of the RUU through the bootloader in order to get back to stock.
If you're s-off (still rooted/nand unlocked) then you can flash the rooted stock rom that I'll link you to. Download the rom and put it on the root of your SD card (not in any folders). Boot into the bootloader using the directions I gave earlier. Then, using the volume buttons to navigate, highlight recovery and then press the power button to select it. Assuming you're using ClockworkMod Recovery, choose wipe cache, factory reset (it may say something else like wipe data, you should know which one though) and then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache. After you've done all three of those, choose install zip from SD card. It's fastest to press the volume up button which will take you to the end of the list - all of your zips will be at the bottom. Highlight the file you just downloaded and press power. Choose yes from the list then let it run its course. When it finishes, select reboot and you will be back on stock.

Holy 4g i did what u said flashed the zip and it did its thing and still came back cyanogen 7. what am i doing wrong anyone pleaseeeee????
i took a whole day trying to figure out how to unroot mine, and i finally got it.
you have to download "unrevoked s-on" put it on your sd card and flash it.
then you have to know which radio your running, so you can know which pc36img to put on your sd card, so when you put it into bootloader it will find it, and run through the checking process, then it will let you apply the update and you will be unrooted.
which radio are you running, and i can help you find which pc36img you need to be using.

Did you go into recovery and wipe cache, data/factory reset beforehand? Check out Guide to Unrooting

I loaded a backup of CM7 and when it rebooted it went into a bootloop and I cant get into recovery. I've tried everything even flashing CWM again and also the stock ROM image. Still bootloop!
Please help
You didnt brick it, if you bricked it, it wouldnt start. You should still be able to get into recovery, by holding the power button and volume at the same time, and getting into Hboot, then go to recovery. Im also guessing it happened because you didnt whipe cache or data before you did this. First time i ever installed a new rom i got a bootloop,
Thank you for responding. I cant get into recovery it starts bootlooping once I select recovery. I tried loading the PB image of CWM and I also tried flashing the stock RUU. Cant get past HBOOT or initial bootloop. I CAN get into fastboot ADB though. Tried flashing a backup system.img, boot.img, data.img but boot.img said error
Your welcome, im not perfect at all this so excuse me a bit lol. So your saying when you select recovery, it boots up normally to the splash screen, or am i wrong? If your able to flash things them im pretty sure your able to get into recovery. Maybe also try another version of CM7? Transferring it to your phone.
No I select recovery in HBOOT and it goes straight to the white HTC INCREDIBLE screen and begins the bootloop process. I've pushed the CWM 3.0.0.8 in a pb13img file and still wont go into recovery. I cant get the phone past HBOOT
Thats really really weird that it wont go into recovery and it starts the boot. Hopefully someone can come with some extra assistance. It isnt bricked tho, i know that. So did you try formating data and cache then before doing anything either?
No I was busy and messed up. applied a backup without wiping data/cache. Came back to a powered off phone. Tried turning it on and it was bootlooping. I cant do anything now. Even if I can get S-ON i'll just get a replacement
There's a data wipe option in hboot, have you tried that?

Goto Doug piston's web site and follow the go back to stock. You should be able to put the stock RUU on the root of your sd card named pb31img (not sure the exact file name but it is on dougs site). When you load in HBOOT, it should recognize the file and install. If I am not mistaken, this will unroot your phone as well.
http://dougpiston.com/?page_id=108
Pb31img file is there.
I tried the stock rom PB31IMG.zip and it continues to bootloop. If I cant get it fixed I want to at least get S-On
Probably aren't gonna be able to get S-ON cause that needs to be done in recovery..

I got VZW to send me a replacement and also got Asurion to get my an Inc2. Not sure which to send back. Free replacement with a gamble getting caught S-On, or $99 free upgrade to Inc2
what radio were you running
try flashing alternate recovery?
i also seem to remember there being a way to root through adb isnt there a way to unroot like that too?
I tried amon ra and a another one no difference. I also tried everything I could adb wise to flash different systems and erase everything. Im running the new GB radio
I may be wrong but I don't think you can apply the RUU with that radio installed. Go back to the stock radio and I think you may be able to flash ythe RUU successfully.

I got excited thinking there was a way to unbrick because of a step I missed. So I went to make sure the radio was right. I HAD the GB Leak 2.15.10.05.06
Right now in HBoot it shows 2.15.00.07.28
I know its not considered a brick because it still turns on but there is NOTHING I can do to get it out of bootloop or past HBoot
hmm new GB radio this has been happening with thunderbolt users to.....but in greater numbers.....I'd advise against using the GB leaked radio...

I can not go back to any backup I had of CM7 or Gingerbread Sense ROM since upgrading to some Alpha ICS roms. I've tried wiping everything & started from scratch on these roms but I always get stuck at "failed to write boot partition from /tmp/boot.img" It doesn't matter what Gingerbread ROM I choose with the exception of MIUI rom (don't know why). I thought maybe I could use that as a stepping stone to go back from there but nogo. I've used RA's recovery & CWM with no success. Any ideas?

I can say with certainty that I don't have this problem. I've flashed every ROM from here to Timbuktu, AOKP, Deck's, Evervolv, and have had no problem restoring a nandroid of, or flashing MikG, Mik3D, MikRunny, The Express, or any other ROM I may have forgotten.
That boot partition error doesn't sound good, though. What HBOOT version do you use?

No reason to upgrade - just wondering.
I'd recommend you flash a stock ROM in the bootloader - that should normalize everything, and then try those other ROMs again.

In the first "My Links" link in my sig, there are 3 of them.
They're PC36IMG files - you rename the file to exactly that - PC36IMG.zip - and put the file on the root of your sd card. Then you reboot your device into bootloader (HBOOT) mode. From a powered off state, hold the Volume down button and then press and hold the power button until you see the HBOOT screen. The file should be recognized and loaded, and after a minute or so it will ask you to update. Press Volume Up to accept, and then wait for a while.
NOTE: This will upgrade your HBOOT, but that's no big deal. The phone will reboot into the bootloader once near the beginning of the process by itself - that is also okay. Don't touch anything while it's updating.
At the end of the process, you'll need to find a PC36IMG for your preferred recovery (RA-supersonic-v2.3 recommended), which you will flash the same way as the ROM (in fact, you can replace the ROM file with the recovery file - unless you want to hold on to it, then you can just move or rename it).

Sooo... I was able to flash back my alternate recovery using a PC36IMG version of it. Thank god for the rooted community.... Restoring back my last backup. Funny though, that I still could not restore a rooted stock backup I had or a new upgraded .zip that I wanted to use. Common denominator in all this (even when trying to use the 4.24.651.1 version of the stock software PC36IMG), it can not write the boot.img Any one else had this problem? Next I will try to RUU which will technically make me lose root but I should be able to get it back, assuming I'm successful, since I still have S-OFF.
PS: My HBOOT now, btw, is 2.16.0001 so I know that the original attempt to get back to gingerbread was succesful
Help, I will describe the following and any help I would love. I have the PRIMOC VM usa HTC ONE V.
Using Hasoon2000's All in one toolkit I have successfully Unlocked my phone, flashed TWRP recover 2.4.4, got root, and made a backup.
I then continue on to wipe cache and system and Factory reset to prepare to install ANY ROM. When I try to install the rom every time it just says Error in /sdcard/...[wherever rom is] (Status 1) FAILED
So then I proceed to restore my backup (this is why you always make a backup) and that works fine
Does the "(Status 1)" mean anything important?
I thought this was happening because I was running the newer radio so I used the RUU tool and now am using the good radio (not 0928) But this did not fix anything. This same thing happens over again. I have checked to make sure and I do have full root privileges.
I then tried to flash boot.img first and jmz kernel flashed successfully, but no rom will flash.
Why will NO ROM install?
I feel like I am missing something obvious but can't figure it out.
Also, whenever I do the factory restore it goes through all the process then fails when trying to wipe sd:ext , but my card is not partitioned. <I didn't know if that would be any help>
I am not a complete newb at all of this (running lg optimus for years- just new to the htc methods)
NEED Help please...
Can anyone help me out with this?
I have not made any progress since yesterday. I am successful at flashing kernels, I have flashed the boot.img of the sic kernel, but on both kernels I have no WiFi with the stock ROM.
So I either need to find the stock boot.img or have help flashing a ROM that fails everytime.
When every instruction says "Extract ROM" that is only to pull out the boot.img right, we don't flash an extracted package you flash exactly what you downloaded right?

Hi Obeezy562,
my advice is to use the recovery program CMW or TWRP to re-format your external SD card. Then follow the normal instrutions and install the rom from zip using your recovery program. If you still have the same issue just let me know and I'll ponder longer.

Ok, so tonight I will reformat my sdcard with TWRP then try to install the ROM. I tried the CWM recovery, but it was not touch based and did not respond to the power button as the OK, only the volume rocker worked.
I will try CWM recovery if someone can provide a link to the latest one, perhaps I was using an old one.
Twrp 2.4.4 I've also had issues with flashing some roms then downgraded to Twrp 2.2.0 and everything has been well since

I can add that twrp 2.4 does have some issues. I use a cwm I found on google somewhere and if works just fine.
