[Q] Disable MTP? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
is it possible to disable the MTP connections automatically established when pluging the Nexus in?
I wouldn't want a public computer I might connect my Nexus to for charging to be able to read my storage.
I know I can switch it to camera, but that's just a workaround. With "normal" Android devices (with an sd-card), you always need to hit "enable usb mass storage", it would be nice if there were some option like that in the Nexus.

Thanks!
How does that affect the MTP, though? Still possible? How about adb or any other kind of connectivity?

How to plug and pray with desktop

Is there a way to ply the TP2 into a desktop USB running XP and have the ability to access the storage card or the device? Do not want to Install Active Sync. Maybe just want to copy some files or something without having to remove the storage card.
If you plug the device into your computer, you should see a selection screen that gives you the option for ActiveSync, Disk Drive, and Internet Sharing. Simply choose the second option and the MicroSD card will be mounted in Windows as a removable disk. If this dialog does not pop up, go to Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC and choose the Disk Drive mode. The only limitation of this is that your PC can only access the MicroSD (not the internal NAND), and the device cannot access the MicroSD while it is mounted in Windows. However, file transfers will be noticably faster than with ActiveSync, and ActiveSync will not actually be needed to access the device. HTH

Thanks. I had forgotten about the USB Connections settings and I had it set to always ActiveSync. Changed it to "ask" and I can access the storage card. Would love to look at the file on the device, but guess you need activesync or some software on the desktop for that. thanks again.

You meant to say "Plug and Pray" instead of "Plug and Play"?
I've tried checking and unchecking the ask option, but I do not get the popup when I plug in my usb cable. I can't activeSync. The only hints that the computer even recognizes it is the ding of plugging it in/out and "PocketPC USB Sync" shows up under Mobile Devices in device manager.
EDIT: I can get it to work as Disk Drive, just not as ActiveSync.

do you have activesync (windows mobile device center?? for vista) software installed on you desktop?
i run xp and have activesync 4.5 on my desktop. i had problems but then noticed my mini usb cable was not secure. i have my device set to charge when connected usb and the charge light was not always amber. found a better cable and used a different usb on my computer (the problem was with the connection to the desktop). that has fixed all my activesync problems.
but i have had problems in the past with the dialog box not popping upasking if i want active sync or disk drive. some people say there tp2 has a third option os internet sharing, mine does not. try a soft reset, check the cable, uninstallin and reinstall the desktop software and see what happens. oh yeah, what are your setting under activesync on your device, in programs?

Which OS are you using?
Also, there is a setting in the communications setup - USB to make the Activesync connection slow or fast. Try the slow setting.

at some point when you plugged in your device, did you happen to select the option that says "never ask again" if so, you will get no notification that it's plugged in. Active sync page wont even open. That's how I got mine set up 'cause I got tired of always having to select whether I want to do Active sync or disk drive.

[Q] No more selection possible after plugging in the USB cable

Do not know where i can change the behaviour when USB is plugged in. There is just "activate/deactivate usb memory. Unfortunately i need "just charging".
I am using CM6.1.3 Stable Release /Build FRG83D/2.6.32.27er Kernel/Android2.2.1/Baseband 12.28b.60.140eP_26.03.02.26_M

O.k. Did not know. Last time when i saw the selection i had stock/sense installed. Reading your words the problem was solved. I allways thought that i checked some standard and can not find it know. Under stock/sense there was some "only charging" mode. But now i know.
Thanks a lot

Manual switch ptp / mtp

When I first had my GN I was able to get to the 'usb connection to computer' options menu and switch between mtp and ptp via the settings button, without the phone being connected to a computer.
Now it comes up automatically when the phone is connected to a computer but I can't find it otherwise ???
Did one of the updates remove this option? If not can someone please tell me where it's gone!
Settings-> storage-> menu button->
That's where it is on mine.

Hello, I installed yesterday Paranoid Android for Galaxy Nexus but I have one big problem.. When I plug usb in my notebook I don't know how to choose option for Mass storage, not charge only. Can you help me?
There is no mass storage on GN, it uses MTP.
i still dont understand how people still dont realize that there is no mass storage on the GN. it boggles my mind.
^^^ +1 to that ^^^^

YOU CAN'T MOUNT AS A HDD. End of story.
the only thing you can use is MTP.
if your kernel has fast charge on, turn it off.
Under setting, storage, bring up the menu (•••),USB computer connection, select the media check box.
If it's not there, then the ROM doesn't support it.
Another method is to use Wi-Fi to transfer files over network:
Use ES file explorer app.
slide down the notification panel..

Nexus 5X recognized by Windows 7 on USB but won't show contents

Solved. Please delete.
You should edit your post to show how you fixed the problem. People might find this thread on a search engine if they are looking for an answer to the same question.
On the 5X (and I think on Android Marshmallow generally), a USB connection is treated by the phone as a charger by default. You can change it to other modes (mass storage, for example, to transfer files to a PC) while the phone is connected by tapping the notification.
Make file transfer mode the default?

Does anyone know how to change the default option for this? Everytime I reconnect my 5x to my PC, it defaults to "charging" mode, and so I have to tap the notification to change it to "file transfer". It would be nice if I could set this as a default.
