The new touch clockworkmod recovery is out from Koush for both the CDMA and GSM Galaxy Nexus! This is not the one with virtual on screen buttons, but the one Koush has been teasing where you can touch the word part (You know, like "Install zip from SD card" and etc.)
https://plus.google.com/112476065271141473049/posts/gzoPGMFEGYQ
Never mind haha sorry
Currently making a nandroid using it. Works like a charm.
This is super cool! But am I the only one who is worried about mistouches or similar? Def dont want to accidentally touch the wrong option while in recovery!! I'm assuming there must be a "confirm" option to prevent that.? Amirite?
I reccomend you do not install this if you are CDMA/LTE.
It breaks asserts. In English, that means no rom installs for you!
hmmmm. I was waiting for it since the release of Este touch recovery. I will try it.

Stating it works and having broken asserts are two different things. It works alright...as long as you don't mind it only accepting Maguro asserts.

Use Gweedo's version. I'm only familiar with his irc handle but his touch recovery works better and has buttons.

Excuse my ignorance, but what sort of issues would "only accepting Maguro asserts" pose to the average user?

Why is it that people recommend against the toolkit? Is there a problem with it or do you just think it's better to do it manually and learn while your are doing it?

Knowledge ftw.
Knowledge.
AND...a big part of it for me...
Is getting ADB/Fastbooot set up...so that we know it's working.
That way...if they come in one day with something wrong:
They:
A) Know what I'm asking them to do.
B) Know that everything is set up correctly...and we don't have to diagnose driver problems and such while the phone is bricked.
If a phone won't boot and all that noise...
ADB/Fastboot might not be working.
But if the user never GOT ADB/Fastboot working to begin with...we'll never know if they did it right or if the phone is simply in that bad of shape.
OP:
What I said sounds scary.
Just do ONE thing...never flash the stock .img's through fastboot that aren't for your device. (Radios/Bootloaders) Flashing the wrong recovery isn't going to brick you...you just won't have a recovery.
That is the big one that seems to get people into hard (or relatively hard) bricked situations.
And you'll be fine.

There is nothing wrong with using a toolkit, IFF you already know what is actually happening when using the toolkit.
I like to think of it this way: in school, they don't let you use a calculator until they teach you how to do arithmatic. Why do you think that is? Because you would never learn to add and subtract.
It's the same issue with a toolkit. It you don't do things manually first, you will never learn...

the toolkit works fine, but if he has no idea what he is doing and just blindly goes with what it says and stuff breaks, he has no idea how to fix it.
i would rather him understand what he did so if he has issues, we can help him get everything back in order and he will understand what we are asking him to do.

Hmmm...
Wonder if we could take that ROM, change the updater-script to match our mounting points....then we just need a kernel....
Which we have one kernel already made. Not sure if it would work though.
If anyone would help set up a build environment that would work for our kernels and roms then I will gladly help and start learning.

Well, it shouldn't take too long. It may be possible to build a CM9 Kernel for our phones using parts of the stock kernel that we have access to.
Once the JB source is released, an S3 port might actually be viable. Otherwise it's essentially just flashing a gnex image and praying something/anything works.

a CM9 kernel shouldn't be needed, just a modded kernel for our specific phone from what i believe.
We know this, but it's more of an experiment. Also, it helps work out anything we may need to do early on with the modules and drivers

It could, in theory. But we would need to work on the modules for anything to work. Could you post our mount points?
why does it have to be a cm9 kernel?
to be completely honest, as soon as we get a cm9 alpha, we will see some worth while stuff! but until then. TouchWiz it iz. We will have team kang's AOKP in no time im sure. i cant wait to see wuts to come. especially since this phone is at all the major carriers and they are all basically exactly the same! should be epic.

Hey, I have a T-mobile Galaxy S3 running on rootbox 4.2.2 and CWM recovery installed. I want to know if my phone compatible to run dual boot.
If yes, please leave me a link to the tutorial post. Thanks for reading.
No. Only by juggling backups with recovery.
I wish that they would make a multi-boot recovery like what they have for the Droid RAZR... While that was born out of necessity, I liked the ability to have up to 4 seperate ROM installs at a time - a LOT.

Woah there!!!!!
OP DO NOT FLASH THOSE KERNELS!
You could brick!
Never flash anything that was not made specifically for your device. If you bother to read the first post in most of those threads they specifically say that Verizon and sprint are not supported.
Please do not post links to potential harmful threads.
We will have custom kernels as soon as HTC releases kernel source for our device. If you can't wait that long then a few of the AOSP ROMs have the HTC logo working as a button.
definitly not flashing any of those haha.
but thank you both for the responses
