[Q] Live TV app on Xperia Play? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if I could use the T-Mobile Live TV app on the Xperia Play. I will be getting an unlocked r800i Xperia next week with a T-Mobile 4G Monthly Plan. I already know that the phone will run in 2G edge. But I just wanted to know if I'd be able to watch live TV using this phone, have any of you tried this?
Sorry for my terrible english jeje

my Defy is the same way - crappy data service from tmobile
Its gotta be a hardware or software issue because like I said, I have tmo as well and have no issue with data right next to her.

I have a Defy, not rooted, with the current update and have no data issues. However, a really freaky thing occurred last weekend. I was LAX running on a Hotspot, getting wifi but no wifi calling. Arrived in SF, Hotspot, same issue. Then, out in the real world took two hours for the phone to find 3G. Called T-Mo and they had me install a uicc sim and now runs like an ace (or, as when it was new). You might try the sim upgrade.
I'm sure its a mix of software and hardware... I don't know if or when we will see a Radio updatefor the defy... But most of all its T-mobiles celluar tower service, they are the worst of the worst for a national provider. At&T is a much better GSM provider, they just got bad press with that Sh!t I-Phone.
If I could afford Verizon I would go with Cdma tech, its better then the 30 year old GSM tech

xperia play white r800a tmobile

Xperia r800a so I been searching and there are no answer to this. Can the r800a be use on tmobile USA? With 3g? I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere any videos for a review with T-Mobile ?
You won't be able to get 3G on Tmobile with ANY version of the Play, as the required bands aren't supported. It's simply not possible.
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_play-3608.php
Edit: You can use the phone of course, but it will only be Edge speeds.
OK then in this case is the r800i better? Or the r800a or the r800at ?
Getting a headache LOL
The reason I'm asking cuz I had dell streak b4 on edge and it wasn't that bad come to think of it on edge

You should be fine with any unlocked variant as long as you're okay with the limitations of edge.
Why is T-Mobile never get any love for 3g when it comes to unlock phones lol
I have an R800a and on t-mobile and I get HSPA(not hspa+)
gets around 120-150 Kbps down, not bad. But I would like to know how to stop them throttling my already bare min connection
I remember someone saying that the Japanese version of the Xperia Play has bands for Tmo.

Hi all, looking to place an order for the Z5P. Will the E6853 have LTE on AT&T?
thanks in advance.

Not sure yet, I am fairly certain I saw Band 17 support in the specs.
I won't be putting my SIM into mine until tonight or tomorrow.
I am sure answer is yes
Yes I use E6853 on ATT and get LTE. Currently on band 12.
I switched SIMs on Thursday - working solid so far.
Anyone using Z5P on US Tmobile? Got mine 2 days ago and my mobile internet is really slow. I got 1.6mbps dl spd and 4.0 mbps upload spd according to speedtest.net apps. While my z3 got 24mbps dl spd and 20 mbps upload spd in the same place. Am I the only one having this issue? Thanks in advance.
Raymond Yeung
P.S. Do you think Z5P Duel will get better data speed?
Thanks for the responses. I ordered mine from Clove UK yesterday. Looking forward to it. Thanks again

I have the Z5 Premium Dual on t-mobile. Is this just with video or all Internet applications? I had issues with video unable to play anything above 480p. It turned out that tmob had flipped on the binge on video service. Once I turned that off my videos were able to stream properly. All my other Internet worked fine though. I bought the dual version only because it supports AWS band for both LTE and UMTS(3G/3.5G) in case I go to an area that doesn't have LTE.

So "binge on" gives you unlimited usage, but with a quality throttle?

Yeah, it limits video to 480p. When watching YouTube, anything above 480p buffered like crazy. Same with Netflix and hulu. So if you want to watch unlimited videos without using your data turn on binge on, bit just know you will be restricted to 480p or less. Otherwise turn it off. I'm on unlimited data so there is no need for me to use binge on.
I have 6853 and I get LTE on AT&T. It doesn't say LTE though, it says 4G.
It goes H, H+, and 4G.

In the rest of the world, LTE = 4G. It's only in the USA where AT&T managed to redefine H+ as 4G.

Why will my OP3 almost never connect to 4G 99% of the time?

My OP3 refuses to pickup 4G in places that my old iPhone 5s and 6P always did. Why is this?
we don't know, we do not know where u r at or what carrier u are on and by 4G do u mean LTE
I got this the first 2 hours that I used my new OP3. It stayed on H+ for 2 hours then without reboot or anything and not even moving, it got LTE.

I am having the same issue. I am on Bell in Toronto Canada. Some areas cannot get LTE. Some times my data just hangs showing full bars. Can't receive or make calls or texts. There are a few threads on different forums with people having the same issue. Hoping it is just a software bug that can be fixed with an update.
I'm O2 Germany and have a really good LTE reception. Look up what LTE bands your carrier is using and compare it to the specs of the OP3. Maybe that's the issue. You can also try to enable flight mode for a few seconds then disable it and the phone will connect new and then you might have LTE.
edit: Seems like Bell Canada is not fully supported but 3 UK is.

I get LTE fully at work just fine. But around my house and the neighbourhood where I live, I only get 3G whereas I used to always have 4G!

Hm I can recommend the app LTE Discovery. Then you'll see if there is any LTE network around you and if the phone receives it.

I understand the icons are not showing you what you want to see but how about the speeds? Did you do a comparison or is this all strictly off of H v LTE icon?

Off of the H vs LTE icon to be honest
I am using my OP3 with mobile internet, using google map a lot. But the google map app eating too much data. Even if i download the offline map and trying to use offline the navigation. If i try to use the offline pre downloaded map without internet connection just does not work. After few seconds or minutes the map will become „blank” means no can see the streets and roads. Nothing at all. But if i turn back the internet on my phone everything coming back. But the point is, that is why i want to use offline maps to save my data bundles.
On my OPO it was not a problem, if i was using the offline map and turning off my mobile internet connection the google map was workng fine. I am using CM13/ Marshmallow on both phone.
Also it has never eat so much data like on OP3.
I am on Tmobile UK and using a 1GB data bundle per month. Before was using my OPO the 1 GB data was more then enough for a month using google map almost every day around 7-8 hours a day. I need the google sat nav for my everyday work so that is why using a lot.
But with OP3 only yesterday i was using almost 200MB and it was all the google map.
I was trying to disable background data traffic on the settings, and also the google map settings has some option but just does not help.
If i download the desired map via wifi and after trying to use the map offline it just become „blank” the map. I need to use the mobile internet to be able to use the offline map. Annoying…
AT&T in the US. I can't get LTE at work. Only H+, and sometimes just 3G.
My issue is that when I get into an area that is LTE for certain, the device doesn't pick it up. It stays in 3G or H+.
I then have to toggle the SIM settings on and off for the device to get LTE. Then it is fine until the next time I go into am area without LTE.
My apn settings are correct and my IMEI is mapped correctly.
Changing to LTE only won't work because then sometimes I would have no signal.
Have you installed OOS 3.2.4? If so go back to 3.2.2. There are known connectivity issues with 3.2.4. There's a little more info on the official OnePlus Community forum in case your interested.
best phone for 2016 but with this issue of signal not to good, samsung always stay on 4g as preferred network or if you want 3g it will stay forever with no issue, op3 fix this issue please i love this phone
i'm having the same issue on 3.2.2 and 3.2.4 always the signal drops from 3g to 2g i need to be switching the preferred network type from 3g to 4g LET
i use tigo and claro carrier

I am using my Chinese version on T-mobile. I am from NY.
I'm using the L29 on Metro (T-Mobile) here in NY with no issues. The AL00 and L29 have the same bands so the service should be equal.
I have it on Walmart Family Mobile which uses T-Mobile towers, in Southern California.

Reception is excellent. LTe, volte but no wifi calling, it is easy to set up, just go to app gallery download Google play store and use phone clone to transfer file from your old phone. Issues are Google pay and Google map location history doesn't work.

I turn off location history anyway. Kinda creepy the way it follows me. I appreciate your info. Can't wait to set this up and use it..
I have the global on Tmo in So Cal. Internet browsing is fine, but watching youtube/netflix has been a bit disappointing. My youtube autos to 240p I can usually manually move it to 360 sometimes 480 will work., haven't been able to stream anything higher w/o buffering. Everything else works fine minus wifi calling.
I have the Chinese variant on tmobile. I noticed that it seems to block data of certain apps or games sometimes. I often have to turn on a VPN to get it to work. This happened with youtube, Google drive, and a few others. Ive already gone and changed multiple settings to get it to ignore data of almost all apps and to allow them unfettered, then finally to maintain connection when screen is off. It didn't work. I had this issue with the ham2 also blocking a couple apps. Perhaps it is a Chinese government thing.

You won't be able to, the phone only has 4/6 of the Tmobile bands, it has some of the LTE bands but not all of them. Unless someone has any other suggestions.

Works great here AL00 on tmo.
Netflix in HD as well
Does the wifi disconnect then reconnect every 15 minutes or so since the last update?
If I'm not mistaken the 20x is missing two bands on the t mobile USA network. Bands 66 and 71. Shouldn't be too much of an issue .
