The black background of HTC's Sense looks really lo-tech to me, like they're not even trying to make it look decent. In my opinion, they could have at least given it a gradient layer.
Anywho, is there a way to get a transparent app drawer background without changing launchers? I've really grown to like Sense GUI and all it's useful little widgets
If this isn't possible, can the app drawer background at least be changed to a custom image of some sort? Or as a more general question, can the drawer be altered in any other way, shape, or form, besides the column/row number?

you can change your theme, by using uot kitchen, just change the part you like , in your case transparency under options...
here is a link : http://uot.dakra.lt/
I don't know. I've used UOT Kitchen before, but I've never come across any such option. Would you, or anyone else, mind telling me which tab to look under?
Tried it in my rom, but it didnt work.
You need to decompile rosie.apk and change colors in xml files.
Custom images not possible.
Google it on xda forum.

Oh, well. I guess I can live with a black app drawer then I'd have tried doing that, but since a more experienced person couldn't do it, I don't see why I should bother with it.

You misunderstood, I meant the app drawer, not the pull-down status bar, but thanks for the reply =]

You could go launcher ex it has that option to change the app drawer background
If you use Go Launcher, you lose the Sense widgets which is considered by many to be one of Sense's biggest features... And the OP mentioned that he liked the widgets.
And this thread was ages old!
App Drawer and Dock
Has anybody got a zip that will make the app drawer and dock transparent. I'm running sense and no ROM.

Hello, all.
I have tried searching to no avail.
While experimenting with different roms, I know certain roms come with the app drawer reflecting 5 apps going across the phone instead of the stock 4. My question is: Is there some kind of flashable file that can make the app drawer show 5 apps going across it?
Thanks in advance.

Yea, but I'm one of the few people that like Sense. I was hoping one of the devs had made a flashable file that I just wasn't able to find.
One thing thats different about android and WM is the fact that it isn't as easy to make a flashable file for ALL ROMs. What happens is in this case for example is the rosie.apk has been modified to show 5 x 5 icons. That rosie.apk also contains some the graphics that make up the rosie (some are in another apk as well). So what would have to happen is someone would have to create a rosie.apk for each style of rosie currently available or maybe someone would create the file just for you. They could most likely do it if they new what rosie you were using. In WM it was a simple modify a registry setting or add something to the registry.
OH and just as many people like Sense as people that don't. I like it.

Hey, I really like the UI of windows phone 7, its sheer simplicity and how good it looks on the Super AMOLED screen... anyway, would it be possible to make a theme that immitates WP7 in all the ways possible? I know that there is an app called Launcher 7, and I use it, but its not a true theme because the status bar makes it just look fake. However, with a theme that themes the status bar naturally and other apps such as contacts, dialer etc, I think it would be a great start, perhaps even remove all TW blue and try to turn it wp7 green. I know there are limitations on what one can do with tw and theming, but it would still be a great project and I know the outcome would be great if one of you amazing themers decided to undertake it! Well, please let me know what you guys think and hopefully this will/can get done!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Edit: Just to clear things up... I would like to use Launcher 7 for this theme, so Icon theming is not prudent, however other aspects like Notification Bar, Status Bar, Contacts, Dialer, Notification Bar Icons, Lockscreen (6 locksrceen mod would make me happy), and whatnot are preferred... Also, the color can be changed in Launcher 7, so a themer could take liberty in changing the color of the status bar or w/e, but i prefer the black stock one with the wifi and signal to the left, Time and Battery to the right. Battery would be preffered to be left alone, but it could be shrunk or put vertically and then number icons could be next to it, indicatting charge... kind of like a ##I scheme with the I being the bar and the ## being the percentage, again, these are just ideas
They do have the status bar in UberMusic and a theme for ubermusic that looks like Zune WP7, but you can only use that bar in the app.
Until then, here's something that will help you make launcher 7 feel better. The official color codes from Windows Phone
http://www.31a2ba2a-b718-11dc-8314-.../windows-phone-7-wp7-default-color-codes.html
Just put them in where you change the tile colors.
I mean,i have good ideas on how to go about doing things, but I wouldn't know where to start as I havnt used photoshop nor Gimp in 4 years... even though I did have traditional classes for it...

I followed the guide in the themes thread to make the status bar transparent. I decompiled classes.dex, made the smali edit, and recompiled with no problem but it doesn't matter what color I change the status bar_background.9 to, it is still solid black. Is there an XML that needs to be edited as well?? I'm running calk's 2.6 with overstew's ics 1.9.4. Thanks!

You have to use a launcher like zeam launcher which natively supports it or with adw, launcherpro, go launcher, and etc you can use multipicture live wallpaper. With ADW EX you can also disable wallpaper hack within ADW settings to also allow for the transparent statusbar.

After I did this hack, I checked it with Go launcher with multi pic and adw with no luck. The weird thing is I then pushed the systemUI from the miui transparent status bar thread in the themes forum and much to my surprise, not only did it work with no FC's, I had a transparent status bar on go launcher with out multi pic. I'm thinking about just taking that apk and throwing all of my themed pngs in there and running that. I'm just frustrated I can't get it to work with my current systemUI.apk after editing it. That's why I wondered if there is something else within this apk (overstew's ics 1.9.4) that needs to be tweaked...

ROM Toolbox Pro is great for making subtle alterations to your Status Bar. It does indeed have a choice to make it transparent. You can find that setting under the "Icon" editor.

And why don't he said the xml which must be edited ??? Anyone figure it out ??
just got back from a vacation. i'll update the tut in the next couple days with some more info.
the .xml edit to call a different status bar background is not needed but you can use it to call a non .9 png if making your own gives you trouble.
ill look at my notes this evening and point out the calls.
---------- Post added at 11:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:25 AM ----------
just a quick check of my notes....
to call your own .png
(shouldn't be necessary)
try checking..
/res/layout/status_bar.xml
search for: com.android.systemui.statusbar.DateView
should look like this:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.DateView android:textAppearance="@android:style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Icon" android:gravity="center|center" android:id="@id/date" android:background="@drawable/YOUR_IMAGE_NAME_HERE" androidaddingLeft="6.0px" androidaddingRight="6.0px" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" />
replace the your_image_name_here with the name of the png you want to call
think it's statusbar_background by default.
can use a .9 or regular png

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to modify the background of the sense 5 weather clock (the one that flips with the weather juuuust below it) not to make it transparent like everybody else is doing. I'm trying to theme it to go with a modified app drawer image and navigation bar image. The problem is I don't know which files to edit in order to do that. Could anyone here give me some advice or pointers?
Yes I have searched for a guide or tut to do it but all I find is people supplying one they made or pointing at a thread that has them already made. I would like to do this myself though.
Thanks in advance for any help

Where is that image? I took a look inside of the prism apk but found nothing by that name.
But for everyone else reading, I'm not looking for transparency, I'm trying to overlay another image over, thus changing how the panel looks.

Are you talking about the panel where the weather condition is ?
That is common_panel.9.png in com.htc.resources.apk/res/drawable-xhdpi
Changing this will affect the widgets background too

YES THAT'S THE ONE!
Just in case I added a screenshot, I circled the panel jsu so that everyone knows what I'm talking about. I found that common_panel.9.png but it's basically just a circle?
What I want to do is make that panel look like the navbar you see in the image I attached, if it's just a circle then it might not work or be possible.
Nobody have any ideas?
Does nobody here have any ideas on how to achieve this?

In both Sense 5 and Sense 5.5, the png is indeed found in the resources apk. It is the common_panel.9.png and it can be themed but only basically. The best you can do with it is make it with a border either transparent or semi. However, depending on how skilled you are with editing xml, you could put a custom PNG in the drawable folder and edit the layouts to navigate to that specific image. That way your newly themed image will be used and not the common_panel.9.png. If you look at my theming thread from Sense 5.5, you'll see what I mean.
In light of the fact there's no real root I figured I must DO something to this phone! I MUST make it different than Samsung intended. I was going thru withdrawal. Really. I got to messing around with different Samsung themes (black is Always Right and all of that developers dark themes are pretty dope..btw); but I found in the process many of the s8 unrooted mods usually work. Do some research but I've personally used better nav colors, remove lock text, remove lock carrier name, more precise animation scale, transparent qs, different nav buttons etc. And they are mostly apks, so no struggle. At all. Overlay apks also work too.
Not taking credit for any of this and props to the developer/s. I'm just sharing. Here's a link to one of the best list I've found.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/themes/mods-small-collection-tweaks-t3657119
Even though it's a substratum thread the mods work without it. I tried substratum but it didn't play nice with my phone. Look for s8 threads in theme section by tigerhood and also clck. Most of their apks work on our phone.
Anyway maybe this is common knowledge but i couldn't find it anywhere else on the board so don't roast me if its nothing special. Lol
Thanks for this link, I have been looking and waiting for a long time for a way to hide the clock and battery icon in the status bar and this mod worked perfectly.

Lots of options for nav bar.
Here is a list of nav bar layers plus many more.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73042403&postcount=1442
With substratum you have lots of choices too.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/themes/theme-statusbar-icons-extras-samsung-t3674792
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ami.vividiconset
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/themes/substratum-inversion-ui-overlay-overlays-t3604341
Most of these work. Check the links at the bottom too. I can't remember where I got my nav shown in the picture but I've had no issues with any. Only ones seems not to work are those that try to adjust the nav bar height. It doesn't break anything you just don't see any change in the size.
Other than that you have to reinstall all your overlays again if you change your theme.
Nav bar shown apk below. Works 100%
Again, I take no credit for these and props to the developer/s.
The closest I can get to all black UI is by using Mini Black Edition V2 from the Samsung theme store and Swift Black overlays. I still have white pull down notifications and white nav bar when the keyboard is shown.
Is there a way to black out the pull down notifications and nav bar while the keyboard is shown ?
There's an apk around on one of the links I posted or somewhere else, I can't remember, with an overlay that gives you a black notification panel. It looks really nice, but you can't see the text on notifications very well.
For the black nav bar use the following by Draco.
Edit: first post on this link is the best list I've found. I've tried many of them and they work just fine. Props to the developers and the member who pulled them all together in one place.
