EVO 4g hdmi to VGA? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a cable that works with the evos hdmi out to VGA of a pc monitor????
I saw one for Asus prime would that work with EVO too?
I try to stay away from converters cuz I'm low on cash but if anyone could find affordable solution please don't hesitate to post.

As far as I know you will need a converter. I think I remember seeing one on Amazon awhile ago.
The issue is that the HDMI is digital and VGA is analog so a converter is necessary.

A cable? No. You need a downconverter. VGA is analog and HDMI is digital, there is no way around using a downconverter.

micro to video rca?

can the evo do video output via rca cable? i.e. the red yellow and white?
It sure can!

I was also wondering about this. Does the cable work for the droid incredible work with a evo.
Heres a youtube with the incredible using the cable.

The droid incredible use mini usb and with the wirefly video, a htc act100 tv out cable. The Evo have micro-hdmi type D to hdmi. I not sure there a micro-hdmi to rca tv-out cable.

The incredible has a micro-usb slot too, just like the Evo
anyone try the incredible cable out with an evo yet?
not same connector.
It's a feature of the Incredible, not the EVO.
Besides, HDMI out better...lol
Yes, you can get a converter to go from Micro HDMI to HDMI to Composite, but they aren't cheap. The reason is that Composite is an analog signal and HDMI is digital. HDMI carries both high definition video and surround sound audio on a single line.
So, you're going to lose image quality and you're going to spend a fair amount of money (I believe) to convert the signal.
If you don't have a TV with an HDMI port, that would be what you need to work on, not changing the signal from the phone. All new devices use HDMI now, it's the standard.
evo RCA cable
I'm not sure if this thread has closed. I have a similar question. I had the touch pro and bought the factory wire that was usb to RCA (red, white, yellow). I have the evo now and need a similar wire. Reason being is i have my car navigation modified to accept a video source, but its input is the yellow RCA, not HDMI. Does anyone know if they will make a cable similar to the touch pro or if there is some kind of dongle or converter piece that can be used.
Thanks

i would like to do that with my evo too.
edit #1
actually, it want it to output google maps and pandora mainly, so maybe i'll have to wait for the final cyanogen rom and a hdmi to composite adapter...that doesn't sound like fun at all. Did we ever figure out if the micro-to-rca cable from the incredible even works for the evo? I would buy one just to find out...
google, here i come...
found one!
edit #2
this guy said he already bought the cable and "it doesn't fit in the evo's usb port". That doesn't really make any sense though, does it... Hmmmmm.
Maybe it does, i remember the port looked a little goofy on the droid inc. oh well, c'est la vie.
edit #3
man, i'm on fire today i guess. No one really cares probably, but here is the difference:
+ 1 for this.
The HDMI port is mostly useless for me. I use my video out on the TP2 for a screen in the car that my kids watch, or my projector (neither of which support HD).
One of the reasons I'm considering the EVO versus any other Android offering is because I actually use the TV out on my current phone, and most other phones don't offer this. But it appears that I'm no better off (buying a bulky composite converter is out of the question). This is soooo disappointing!
The incredible can do something the EVO can not?! tsk tsk...

lol come on now. My VCR has composite out, but that doesn't mean my blu-ray player should.

[Q] HDMI output question???

I have some AVI files on my SD card and open them with the app rock player and when I plug in my HDMI cable to my tv it dosent work...why? Is there a way to develope an app that would let you tell it when the output should work?
Thanks in Advance!
This is a known problem with the evo, using the stock rom, the HDMI functionality is limited. Rumor is that someone has developed a true hdmi out driver on the cyanogen team, but I can't comment about when that will be baked into a rom. CM7 nightlies are the best bet as to when though.
My hdmi doesn't work either. When I plug it in everything is good when I try to go to a pic or vid the phone reboots and gets stuck on the splashscreen until i pull the hdmi cord out and pull battery.
Thats because your tv probally only has support for HDMI 1.3 micro HDMI needs HDMI 1.4 to work, this has provided alot of heartache to people, it makes no sense to me, because micro HDMI still uses a 19 pin connector just like regular HDMI just smaller but for some reason only 1.4 supports micro (sorry for the lengthy answer this has been very frustrating to me...)

How can I figure out which one my tv support? Its a 60" mitsubishi. My hdmi works fine with my ps3 on 720 and 1080p

Swyped from Eva running Myn's RLS4!
hdmi not working
i have two evos one has the 0003 hardware and the new one has 0004, the 0003 works perfect with my cable but the 0004 doesnt even recognize the phone, any ideas thanks
As far as I know right now HDMI is only supported when using hardware playback. The you tube player uses hardware so will output to HDMI. Also the internal video player as well as the HTC streaming video player. The only file types that seem to work with hardware playback are either mp4 or wmv's. I dont use wmv much, but I did get one to work with the HDMI. I havent looked into it but apparently someone on the Droid X forum (might of been another phone, can't remember) was able to get full UI on HDMI and maybe, just maybe they were going to port it to the EVO. It would be nice if the Cyanogen team can get it working with their rom. If fact I would donate to see that happen.

RCA adapter for atrix?

Does anyone know of a working solution for a USB to RCA output on the atrix? I have AV inputs in my car and want to, mirror my phone onto my nav screen. Did a sear h and didn't find anything. DINC has a custom cable for this from HTC. THANKS!

You'd most likely need a digital to analog converter (like those boxes), and you'd need a bunch more since I doubt it has any video out besides the HDMI. Which doesn't do any sort of mirroring without hacks (unless I am not aware?)
That said, I don't think it is possible.
That's pretty much the answer all my searching has led me too as well. Samsung , HTC, and apple all support video out through USB or even audio jack.

Atrix has an hdmi port so there would be no need for video over usb. Analog audio can be transferred over, however.

HAHA that absolutely will NOT work. First off, the first link is for a mini hdmi, not micro. Second, the second cable you posted only works with one particular video card, otherwise it will not work.
You cannot simply just convert hdmi (digital) to s-video (analog) with a cable. You need a downconverter, and they are not cheap.

i know htc sells usb to s-video for certian phones.. i found the cables on amazon. can i go usb to s-video instead on the evo?
Oh my bad. I thought there was only one smaller than regular hdmi...I'm not a video expert but they must make these "converters" to smash hopes and dreams because anyone who thinks logically would have thought the same as me.
But from what I know of home audio systems...if you by chance had a home theater receiver with hdmi inputs, you could theoretically use any video out associated with your input(but since I have yet to own an hdmi capable receiver idk if they downscale)

No, only certain phones support that feature, the evo does not.

Yea, some receivers will downconvert from hdmi to composite/svideo, but i'm not sure which ones will do that.

[Q] Audio over MHL HDMI

Well the thread title says it all. I want to buy a MHL adaptor such as this but im not sure if it will also transmit sound over the HDMI and into the TV (for watching movies)! Anyone has one of these who can confirm this ?
It does, I watched a load of bear grylls round my mates house a while ago, worked a treat, the only letdown was that the TVs hdmi is dodgy and kept falling out the socket (what fool would design a tv with hdmi pointing down lol)
