same question on the other thread, i will repost here to keep it easy
Fair question.
To people with mobile phones, the benefits are real public IPv6 addresses that allow for the bidirection flow of traffic. Read -- inbound connections... can have a web server or ssh server on your phone... A phone now becomes a real node on the real Internet, not a "mobile web" experience. Actually, each mobile phone is assigned 2^64 IPv6 addresses... that is a codified standard (yes, there are a lot of IPv6 addresses, no i dont think this a bright, but it is not actually a problem). There is no NAT from IPv6 to IPv6 addresses. But, other than that, not a whole lot is different from a user perspective. One can wax poetic about re-establishment of the internet's end to end principle, or how IPv6 is going to help battery life... but it gets kinda hand wavy. This is why IPv6 has been around for 10+ years without much traction.
The real benefit i see is to the mobile network providers, or Internet in general. Mobile devices are growing at a very high rate and there is just not enough IPv4 addresses to go around. Internet wide, IPv4 is pretty much exhausted.
I thought this article had some interesting pointers http://tech.slashdot.org/story/12/01...ecoming-viable
And, Facebook, Google, Bing, Yahoo ... are all turning on IPv6 for good in June. On the Internet, IPv6 is a pretty big deal in terms of how data flows through the tubes.... But, ideally, plane old joes dont have to care about IPv6. It should just work.
Here is some info on the World IPv6 launch day http://www.worldipv6launch.org/
Cool thanks for the info. I signed up.

I signed-up for IPv6 and I noticed that T-mobile does not compress the images any more unlike they do it with IPv4! Especially it is noticeable when I use tethering for my computer
I don't know if this is part of ipv6, but my 2g data speeds went from 56k to this

Have you actually tried this on T-Mo? On VZW LTE devices get an IPv6 address, but they block incoming traffic. I count this as a mixed blessing, annoying to me but probably a good idea for the unwashed masses used to being protected by a NAT.

Yes, i verified inbound SSH to my phone works. For me, this is a very useful feature. I see this an a good evolution that closes the gap between home broadband and mobile. I think people are mistakenly scared about inbound connections because Windows 2000 and XP were umm... not good code. Android is MUCH MUCH different and has a very strong security architecture with regards to network. Now, if you root the phone and mistakenly install malware... it does not matter if you have a firewall or not.
Good to know, although I disagree with respect to the concern over incoming connections. Most OSes have been pretty cleaned up around actual flaws (including Windows, but OSX is always the first to fall in Pwn2Own...), however you should never underestimate stupid users, stupid apps, and stupid users running stupid apps. I can certainly see someone scanning T-Mobile's IPv6 space for anything with port 22, 2200, or 2222 and just trying to log in with root/root getting a slew of hits (granted, the IPv6 space is huge but lease some time on EC2 and you can scan a decent chunk in no time, or wait for Shodan to scan it for you). My old VNC server defaulted to port 5901 and no password. Add to that malware being able to operate in a P2P mode rather than needing a C&C server coupled with a lack of decent firewall software for Android (DroidWall is great for what it does, but I just want system-level incoming rules instead of per-app settings) and I can just see the headlines...

Yes, it is safe. Switching back and forth between the IPv4 and IPv6 APNs is just 3 taps.
Verizon's LTE is IPv6 ready, CDMA (3G) is not.
www.ipv6.google.com
FYI -- T-Mobile has completed the IPv6 network deployment and now any GN can connect to IPv6 without any special white listing http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/127213-ipv6-now-deployed-across-entire-t-mobile-us-network
I turned on IPv6 (only, not 6/4) on my GN and everything worked great except I could not receive MMS messages. I'm on T-mo, the MMS sender is on metropcs. Anyone else seen this? Could have been coincidence but the MMSs came right in when I switched back.
Do you still need to sign up for this if your on T-Mobile?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk 2
Just go to your default TMobile apn settings and change their setting from 4 to 6... Mms should still work then... No need to create a new apn
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I did exactly that, just changed the existing APN to IPv6 and MMS would not work. I changed it back to IPv4 and the MMSs waiting came right in.

Ever since AT&T revealed that all unlimited users are now capped to 3gb/month (5gb for LTE), aka no more 5% crap, I can't get my Nitro automatically connect to any ATT hotspots around the town. I get message in notification bar saying

Before that, every time there is a hotspot available the phone automatically connects and nothing required from the user's side. Now I have to manually open browser and agree with their terms of service.
Anyone experiencing this?
I will test mine out to see if I get the same issue, and report back my findings.
I've had that happen a few times recently too. The app would seem to keep trying and would eventually connect successfully.

I'm having the same problem. I've been bounced back and forth between AT&T Mobility and AT&T Wi-Fi so many times. Like you I can always get in by going to the login screen and logging in with my DSL credentials. I also have a grandfathered "unlimited" data plan.
I recall this happening previously (like when I go through a McDonald's drive-thru) but I've only chased after it since March 1. It's happened in 2 different hotspots, one in Boston and one in Memphis.
I'm on a Samsung Captivate with OEM Gingerbread.

Here is my conspiracy theory:
AT&T trying make us, unlimited plan users, use all the capped data as quicker as possible to slow it done sooner, make us more pissed off and switch to limited plans.
Make sense?
Try restoring the hotspot app in Titanium Backup again and then reboot.

Can't use Titanium. I'm not rooted.
I tried clearing the application data. I'll post back whether that helps or not.
Running latest Kernelpanic rom I don't experience this problem.
I finally got my WISPr connect to work. In "Wi-Fi settings" I had "Network notification" unchecked. I checked this and then went to an AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot.
It connected!
Not wanting to leave "Network notification" checked and get all those nagging notifications I unchecked it and visited another AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot.
It connected!
See if this helps you.
It is actually nothing to do with our phones, it's ATT ****ing with us.
I've checked it with 3 different phones, all had the same problem.
Now, all three one day connecting fine another - no go.
Come to Canada it works...wait forget it we don't have ICS. ;-)

I fully believe this is exactly what they are doing. It pisses me off, but instead of switching plans I'll switch APNs. HAHA I win!
Does anyone have Android Wifi Tether working when on LTE? I have been having the worst time trying to get this to work on the SGS3 (worked great on the EvoOG). Yesterday, I happened to be in an area that only had 3G coverage, and when I tried the wifi tether, it worked for the first time. A bit later, I was back in my normal coverage area and was back on LTE (4G) and the wifi tether stopped working again. It allows me to connect, and it sends traffic upstream, but it won't route it back down to my connected device (tried iPad 2 and laptop).
Regarding AWT settings, I have tried the usual settings (router fix checked, authentication enabled, SG Nexus CDMA/LTE, GSM, and other profiles that others have mentioned). No luck.

I'm with you on this one, my original Evo worked great but have had zero luck connecting with the S3 no matter what settings I choose.
I'm also having issues getting wifi tethering to work sometimes I have to force close to get it to work but on 3g and I have the latest beta

I'm almost positive that i used wifi tether on LTE about 2 weeks ago. I don't have LTE at work but i'll try again at home tonight and see if it still works. I'm using Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) on wifi tether 3.1-beta14... still using the LF9 modem though.
first screenshot = wifi tether
second screenshot = speedtest website.. speedtest.net wasnt working for me so i googled for another
third screenshot = my motorola photon tethered to my gs3
anyways.. it works for me with the settings i listed above.. i think i followed qbking's tutorial
Ive been using this WiFi Tethering
do the install put model on auto select start WiFi there will be a pop up saying something like there is a new/update for are sgs3.
I haven't had any problems on 4g or 3g unless I'm in a area where I must be on the line of 4g/3g

I did this, but the first wifi install is just the android wifi tether project with a wrapper. It said it wouldn't work on my device, as you stated, and then prompted me to install regular open garden. I don't want my phone to be an open, unsecured wifi hotspot. So I guess I'm fooked unless I can find out why the qbking setup seems to work for some people, but not me and at least one other person in this thread.

I will agree i did use the same settings and I did accomplish a speedtest on my friends laptop using 4G LTE as my connection. Very fast i might ad 30Mbps down and 10Mbps up... Way faster than my cable here at the house.....
Ok, so I was able to resolve this by grabbing the latest beta from the project. The version in the play store, 3.1 v 14, just wasn't working right. The 3.2 pre1 version from the project page worked great. Anyone else having problems should grab the apk from the google pronect page. Here's the link.

*edit* updating link to general download area of the google project page, rather than the specific version.

Has anyone tried the FoxFi app to see if it allows the phone to use the LTE signal?
I'm in LA, and LTE is not available yet.
i have spent entirely too much time on this tether app and this is because it was not working, but here is what i did which was a collection of things i read here but i had to mix the options up a bit
fist of all i just got this phone 3 days ago and i allowed it to do all updates like a fool
i rooted this 2 nights ago
i am running wifi tether 3.2-beta2
access control is off, sure i get msg once in a while but as soon as i turned this off it immediately loaded the page on my laptop
my profile is: Samsung galaxy nexus gsm, i know i know. im on sprint and its not gsm but this worked
setup method is: auto
it works quickly every time even after reboots of gs3, app and laptops
thought i'd share
So I know it might be too early to ask but for those who rooted their device - is there any unlimited tethering mod suitable for the 6E?
Bump to this. My S6 64 gb edge is on its way and that's key to me as well. Thank you in advanced.
Bump, didn't root yet (the longest time in my history that I've been working with an un-rooted device) but I am interested in the unlimited tethering...
Did anyone already try to mod or came up with a mod (even a manual one, APNs, IPv6 -> IPv4, etc.)?
are you asking about a mod that lets you steal unlimited data, which is a violation of your TOS, or something else?

wanted to report that the 'Wifi Tether Router' app is working for me. had to tweak default settings per the developer:
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Encryption wpa2-psk
Channel 1
Drivers nl80211
"HostApd Patch" <- CHECKED
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKED
"No Disable WiFi" <- CHECKED (ONLY if you can't see the WiFi Network)
There is a bit of delay after first connecting to the hotspot; got a 'no internet connection' but after 30 seconds or so it connected.
Also, the app displays 'loading' at times, which freezes the interface. If you hit the running app key (bottom left button) and go back
into the app, it is responsive again.
Thanks tmotech! Finally a relevant answer
Once my device is rooted, I'll try that!

Hey , just inquiring about the ip4 vs ip6 comment. Is that something we need to adjust or create a new setting on more networks ?? Never actually did this manually. I always wait for the developers to incorporate unlimited tether on there roms.

Hello I got a note 4 and I have noticed that wifi signal connecting my router or other free wifi signal is not realy the "best thing" is quite hard .I got a note 3 neo,xcover,s3 ,a sony a iphone 4 and all of then havea bettar wifi connection. So I was woundering if,without louseng the Warranty with root,if there was a setting entering with secret codes in a secret menu and chage some settings so that the rx wifi will get bettar.
Anybody know something?
Thank's

I've heard of other models needing the Wi-Fi power saver mode disabled but rarely the Note 4.
Open your dialer and dial *#0011# tap the top right menu button and select Wi-Fi; scroll to bottom and tap the button near bottom to turn off.
You may also consider installing Wi-Fi Analytics from Google Play and analyze your network from your phone and compare to another phone on same network/same location (or simply this menu). You may have a hardware issue to resolve before considering root.

Comparatively speaking, it's weaker and noted on the locations, applications and dialer code menu, right?
If so, you can exchange it if still within the exchange window (get it back quickly if that applies and don't take no for an answer). Otherwise, have it evaluated under warranty at point of sale.
I wouldn't settle for having to carry multiple devices to do what one should do unless your employer or business makes that necessary.
Not to judge your ISP provider or Wi-Fi router but your equipment may be generations out of date regarding speed and technology. But if it works to your satisfaction, good enough. Otherwise, your ISP may exchange it. I upgrade my modem and WiFi router myself to avoid the expense of leasing one; over time, it may actually pay for itself both in monetary terms and overall ease and satisfaction. A small investment if making the right timely decision. At the moment there's been movement on both the mobile and WiFi hardware. I adopted WiFi 802.11ac tech too early and now they have doubled ac connection speeds on the Wi-Fi router side. I'll wait to upgrade my WiFi router when I upgrade my phone. I think it makes sense to keep the tech relative to capabilities; upgrading too soon may not be a benefit at all and actually cost more, requiring more frequent and unnecessary upgrades.
Slow gratis WiFi outside the home? I get that too. Bummer.

I haven't helped much but you're welcome.
Do you have the option to return the Note 4 for exchange? The opportunity may only be 14 or 15 days so act quickly if you have that opportunity.
I'm thinking the weak WiFi indicates that exchange would be recommended if convenient.
I just reiterated the point because I wasn't sure if that got lost in translation.

Disable connections optimizer. It causes your phone to change connections too often. Disabling actuality increases speed also. If you go to Wifi settings and disable constant scanning your device will not be searching for better connections. You can also force your device to stay connected with a app called Connections Stabilizer ' it directed connection and if it does lose service it resets everything causing a more stabile connection. It works best with super access but is not required.

I have (had) the same issues with my Note 4. It would always prefer mobile over WiFi after I rooted it. It got to the point it would not even connect to WiFi in places that where all ready saved to my device. It was the same on every Samsung based ROM. It kept on popping up that the connections optimizer had stopped. You can just disable it in settings. I just freeze it out on new ROMS now. It solved the WiFi issue for me.
@androodius that option is off I dont use data (the option ist available only if data is on just because I use a sim from another country so Rouming cost very mutch expecialy if I go online. But the test I did with my Netgear dgn2000 is unfortunatelly ok 100% maybe is a general wifi problem of the note 4.
Take care

PS:I got a tplink Tomorrow I will try olso that router

I see. So it's safe to say that you leave your mobile data disconnected all of the time? Although the connections optimizer is in mobile settings it is designed to connect to WiFi. The Note 4 has a very efficient booster built in to it. It works by jumping back and forth between mobile and WiFi. On the Sprint model it is activated with the connections optimizer and/or in WiFi settings. Verizon Note 4s come with it available in settings and in the toggle notifications. With idoneapp you can enable all of the toggles on every carriers note.
I'm not sure what the exact cause of the cause of the problem is but I do know that when it is enabled in any of the 3 ways I mentioned my device stongly favors mobile data. The only way I can make it stay on WiFi is by disabling mobile data.
Are you having the problems with your Wifi so when your mobile is off you are basically getting no data?
Either way you might want to look in to the idoneapp. It has a lot of cool feature. One that may save you money is the hotspot enabler. It unlocks your APNs so you might be able to kick over to some that don't cost as much to use.
So I got my new note 7 and am loving it except for one significant problem. I cant get to google play on my wifi. Every other wifi in the world works. Just not my own at home. I can connect at my moms no problem, LTE works. Get a white screen as if the app is trying to load and sometimes a connection error try again later.
Things I have tried.
Other wifi networks "which works"
Tried my moms router on my modem, no go
All the stuff you get when you google like cache reset, manually adjust the time, factory restore....
One work around that works is to run a vpn, another is connecting my hootoo travel router to my wifi and connecting the phone through it. Then app store and photos works fine.
Google says its a problem specific to my phone and connection to the internet, so samsung or isp problem, samgsung said its a isp problem, rogers said its a isp problem. So not very helpful.
My setup is my note 7 connected to an archer c9 "tplink" which is new a month ago. my isp is xplornet "bleck" and im on thier 25 meg 300 gig lte package which actually get between 2 and 5 meg down, half a meg up. We have a note 5 and an iphone in the house as well and they both work fine.
Anyone have an idea? Samsung, xplornet, rogers and google haven't a clue.
Sounds like your ISP DNS is having issues.

nixonboy123 is right. Your DNS is giving you issues. Log into your router and manually specify DNS address. You can use Google's DNS at (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.7.7). Google how to configure DNS on your router if you aren't sure.
If you're unable to manually specify DNS on your router you can find DNS settings on your phone. You may have to select manually specify IP address on your wifi network to configure the DNS.

This, except I believe Google's secondary DNS address is 8.8.4.4.

My mistake. You're right.
They are right. Also grab a ping tool and try resolving play.google.com

Thanks for the advice. Changing the dns on my router to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 allows me to get into the google play store now, but my installed apps tab remains blank. Everything else works though. Also my google photos gets stuck on the first upload. The progress bar on the first photo will start but hang forever. Connect through vpn or any other wifi network i've tried and it all works fine.
Kind of frustrating to have so much headaches just trying to set up a new phone i should be enjoying.
Rogers agreed to replace the phone when they get some more in. Why would my S5 Note 5 and G4 all work without all this hassle?

Contact your provider have them switch your isp and you can search for the best dns servers so you dont get slowed down by everyone in your city.

Can't seem to get images to show until I post some more. I'll try again on the PC when I get home.
Speed tests are as high as 18 mbps in the morning but average around 5 mostly. 100 ms ping or lower
Ping results look ok to me.
