Battery Problem - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, take a loot at this screeny. I think my battery is either super decalibrated, or just bad. I've already let it run until the phone turned off, but I don't want to keep doing that as it's bad for the battery. (Super-saturation is not good for li-ion batteries) Any recommendations?
Edit: How about I actually attach the screenshot?

Have you tried wiping battery stats in recovery?
I know its an option in clockworkmod (under advanced I think)

What the hell :S that is one confused battery you got there ! It goes down while charging then jumps up after :s is it stock battery ??

I know right!! It's stock. No water damage, nothing like that...

What ROM are you on and has it done this for others? Have you considered clean install?

It's done this for every rom. I'm on virtuous sense 2.0. I clean wipe before every rom, so I don't have the slightest idea what's going on here. Although last night I did test charging my extended battery and it would charge, then drain while still plugged in. I am mega confused.

had the same problem on my stock Dz a few months ago, battery would fluctuate like crazy (would drop to line 15-20% suddenly and then go back to 60% when phone was restarted) wiping battery stats would not fix it. Turned out to be a dud battery htc replaced it and all is fine.
If you want a more technical explanation every battery has a sensor in it which reports voltages to the phone which the phone then interprets as percentage battery left corresponding to the values stored in the battery stats file. Our battery sensor is malfunctioning and reporting weird values to the phone which the phone is showing as fluctuating battery level.
Hope that helps.

Gracias, dudeman. But I wonder why my [almost] new mugen-power extended battery does it too? Probably just a cheap battery.

[Q] Odd Battery Charge Curve

hi all,
i noticed the charge curve on my evo is not linear. at first it's logarithmic and then linear (see pic). everything is off (3g/4g, wifi, bluetooth, sync) while charging (only turning on once in a while to check the %). is this normal?
ive wiped my battery stats and done all that. during use, the battery drops to 60% quickly and then discharges slower. im using deck's gb 1.3 rom, havent changed the kernel, no wake lock issues as far as i can tell.

I was having the same exact issue. I bought a new battery and figured it must be bad when it would jump from 80 percent to full in a matter of minutes. Then it would discharge to around 70 percent in a matter of an hour. After it hit 70 percent it would discharge more slowly. This was a battery that the Sprint store gave me and I was led to believe it was new. After it did this weird charging discharging issue I went back to sprint and this time received a brand new battery in the package. The young lady behind the counter showed me a box full of all types of used batteries and explained they probably pulled one out of the box of the used batteries. I exchanged my original battery because it wasn't fully charging anymore but the weird charging spike I got with the replacement battery was a first for me. Anyway the "NEW" battery is working like it should so you may be looking at a bad battery.
I know you said you wiped battery stats but did you calibrate the battery at all?
oop. forgot all about this post. thanks for your responses.
i assumed something weird may have happened from my going stock to root so i checked out a friends battery. he never rooted his phone. unfortunately i get the same charge curve.
yes, i have calibrated my battery/ ie, charge to full, wipe stats, then drain phone til shut off.
i will try contacting sprint/htc for a new battery and see how that goes.
anyone else have this issue?
Me, all the time. Have yet to have a different curve ever. Mine happens a little higher though, around 70%. Try battery monitor widget and you can see the actual charging voltage

After you drain the battery completely, charge it to 100% without unplugging. Recalibrate with that method and see if it helps.

[Q] Sharp and consistently high battery drainage

Hi, a few days after flashing ICS OrDroidX ROM from Android Revolution HD, I noticed that my phone battery starting to have sharp battery drop, for example after 30 minutes of off screen, it will drop from 97% to 92% based on the log from CurrentWidget. The current drain also extremely high, often stay between 300mA to 600 mA, rarely back to normal with 8mA draining in off screen.
I have done the wiping battery stats from the tutorial, and reflash CM10, however it get back to same battery drain though less severe than before, about 200mA drain on average, the sharp battery percentage drop still there.
Please let me know if there's anything else I can do, my phone is rooted, hence I would try to do anything I can before returning to HTC which I almost certain that they will charge me a lot for replacing a battery. Will battery overheating cause the issue as well? Thanks in advance!
I would say download betterbatterystats from the play store. It can give you information on what is active.

Does it ring any bell that something is wrong? I notice that the awake is somewhat a lot, is that due to kernel issue?
Thanks!

According to that graph, your phone hasn't been in deep sleep, ideally you would want to get a similar graph for Screen On and Awake. Go to -> partial wakelocks and give us a screenshot. Also, your signal doesn't seem very good. Do you usually get 1 bar?

Thanks a lot for the analysis! Yesterday I decided to reflash CM10 and remove all files from SD, and put them back after flashing. I get a similar graph as the previous graph that I posted.
After reflash
Partial wakelocks (because I did a reboot in between, so it shows only a short period of time, however during the screen on period of time, my battery have a awful sharp drop from 39 % to 29 %, a 10% drop in just a second...)
Shortly after I reflash the ROM and put my SD contents back into the phone, media scanner was a horrible process which hog on my CPU, after clearing the data from 'media storage', did several reboot then the phone only return to normal.
For the signal issue, my room never get full bar, normally would be stay around 2-3 out of 4 bar. Will this affect the battery life?
Now the problem seems like got two parts,
1. Screen off battery still drain quite a lot, though not as much as screen on
2. Screen on battery drain is awful, sometimes 5-10% in a just a second

[Q] Extended Battery not working at all?

Hey guys,
Ive been trying to diagnose this problem for a while, still cant figure it out. I get TERRIBLE battery life, for having a 3900mah battery. Im really really confused what is going on. Its a VZW galaxy nexus. Here are some of my specs, and then Ill post some data graphs:

-I have NFC and Bluetooth turned off
-I have not done any undervolting, yet
-I have brightness at bare minimum
-I am only running on 3g
-I run a primarily black background
-I followed this guide for screen settings: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3800mAh-Ext...770689?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4167963201
-this was done not playing any games, maybe only 2 min of youtube videos, primarily just light browsing, some mp3 playback, and reddit.
-using JBsourcery 2.5 rom
Graphs:
Before this test I was charged to 100%, deleted battery stats. I have better battery installed now, I will post those results after today, see if those help at all
Can someone please give me some direction? Do I have a bad battery? Ive had it for some time, Ive always though the battery should preform better than it does. Please any advice would be great
Definitely something wrong with that battery. Maybe it simply isn't a 3900mAh battery as the seller says? Or alternatively you have a faulty battery.
Based on my experience you should be getting better battery life than that even on stock battery. With CNA 3.6.6 + Trinity a67 I've had screen on time of over 3 hours and total discharge time of over 1d before reaching empty. And those were with display brightness set to automatic.
Hey buddy, from my experience, extended batteries tend to normally discharge to 1% normally, then it hangs there for many, many hours. The OS cannot detect the aftermarket battery size. Hope this helps.

Im relatively certain now my battery is a dud. Can anyone recommend a battery? Is the seidio really my only option? Or do any of the other ones work?
I would try doing a battery calibration before buying another battery. It seems like a dud from what you've posted, but it won't hurt to calibrate it just to be sure.

decided to go with just buying the seidio. I will report back when I have results
Alright, so I am noticing better battery life with this new battery. Realitvely high use, and getting better battery life. I havent been able to recreate the previous day yet, so cant do a comparision quiet yet. But really weird thing happened. I was having some network problems, rebooted my phone and plugged it in. It went from 16% to 42% instantly. Da faq? Anyone have any idea why this would happen? Are my battery stats messed up? Please help

Using android is like changing a new phone every month!
Better check you apps behaviour and syncs with BetterBatteryStatts and cpu spy for deep sleep. No way a battery drains that fast normaly.
Interesting thing is, I just did a full wipe/factory restore, couldn't be an issue with my apps, could it? Gonna go log my battery in the mean while
Using android is like changing a new phone every month!
Could it be due to this process "audioOut_2"?
Dont have vibes installed though, yet somehow this is preventing phone from sleeping.
Will try with second handset to see if this is an issue with rebooting phone on silent mode

how many screen time? have you put you phone in a hot zone? have yoy been playing while charging for a long time? i say it because it is known that some samsung batteries inflate themselves and decrease the battery life to like about 15 minutes so look if the battery is normal or a bit rounded (fat battery)
hope it helped,

Hot zone meaning? I haven't been abusing my phone, but when I play some games/surf the Web, the battery seems to die at almost twice the speed it did before.
If buying a new battery would solve this issue, then I would buy without hesitation! I'm just scared that the battery condition is not the main issue with this drain.
Currently doing a full drain/charge to recalibrate the battery

by hot zone I mean let the phone in the sun or somewhere when the temperature is high. I recommend you to check your battery physically, I mean open the back of the phone and see if the battery is in the same condition as when you received it. As I said before the main problem could be that your battery have been inflated if is this you must replace it not only because the bad performance but also because it is really dangerous(there are acids in there and if it explote..)
However it seems more like a continous draining try calibrating as you said with battery calibration or similars. If the battery starts to decrease its life (i mean today lasts 5h., tomorrow 3h.) it is almost sure what i said about the battery.
hope i helped you somehow

Galaxy S3 AT&T Battery Going Crazy

Hey all,

This started happening out of nowhere, a couple months back. My phone will lose battery at an incredibly fast rate, then swoop back up (without being plugged in), then fall, etc etc until it hits 0%. I can then turn it back on and it says 50% or what have you, and the same process repeats. These are the things I've tried:
1. Bought a new ZeroLemon battery because I thought my battery might be broken. All this served to do was increase the number of swoops. The battery still barely lasts half a day.
2. Cleaned the contacts of the battery and on the phone.
3. Installed all kinds of battery helpers and battery recalibration apps. Here's a screenshot of an app telling me, after I charged the phone to 100% (with a separate battery charger so I know it was at 100%).
It appears the phone is just reading the battery incorrectly. Not only does it report 60% but it also reports 3800 mV, which a fully charged battery should be around 4200 or 4300 correct?
4. Now here's the weird one: I blew on the contacts. This made things work better for a week or two. The new battery lasted about 3 days, which I thought was pretty good. Now it's back to where it was again.
It seems like I've tried just about everything, and it's a problem with the phone. Only problem is, as you can see, I have CM installed and the phone is over a year old, so any kind of warranty is long bye bye. Any suggestions my fellow S3 owners? I've tried googling this problem everywhere and it seems I'm the only one with it.
Thanks so much

I also forgot to mention that I have tried formatting everything and installing a different ROM etc etc. Is there any option short of buying a new phone?
