[Q] Odd Battery Charge Curve - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all,
i noticed the charge curve on my evo is not linear. at first it's logarithmic and then linear (see pic). everything is off (3g/4g, wifi, bluetooth, sync) while charging (only turning on once in a while to check the %). is this normal?
ive wiped my battery stats and done all that. during use, the battery drops to 60% quickly and then discharges slower. im using deck's gb 1.3 rom, havent changed the kernel, no wake lock issues as far as i can tell.

I was having the same exact issue. I bought a new battery and figured it must be bad when it would jump from 80 percent to full in a matter of minutes. Then it would discharge to around 70 percent in a matter of an hour. After it hit 70 percent it would discharge more slowly. This was a battery that the Sprint store gave me and I was led to believe it was new. After it did this weird charging discharging issue I went back to sprint and this time received a brand new battery in the package. The young lady behind the counter showed me a box full of all types of used batteries and explained they probably pulled one out of the box of the used batteries. I exchanged my original battery because it wasn't fully charging anymore but the weird charging spike I got with the replacement battery was a first for me. Anyway the "NEW" battery is working like it should so you may be looking at a bad battery.

I know you said you wiped battery stats but did you calibrate the battery at all?

oop. forgot all about this post. thanks for your responses.
i assumed something weird may have happened from my going stock to root so i checked out a friends battery. he never rooted his phone. unfortunately i get the same charge curve.
yes, i have calibrated my battery/ ie, charge to full, wipe stats, then drain phone til shut off.
i will try contacting sprint/htc for a new battery and see how that goes.
anyone else have this issue?

Me, all the time. Have yet to have a different curve ever. Mine happens a little higher though, around 70%. Try battery monitor widget and you can see the actual charging voltage

After you drain the battery completely, charge it to 100% without unplugging. Recalibrate with that method and see if it helps.

Battery jumping

Good day everyone, I've been using CM9 for awhile now and its been an awesome ride so far. Everythings been working almost perfectly. Recently, my batteries(stock one) percentage level's been Jumping up and down...a lot. For instance, I woke up to it (while off) having 100% on the indicator, turned it on, and it dropped to 51%, re-booted it to see if that'd help but it dropped again to 12%. This kindof things been happening for awhile and still with Alpha 2. Should I just get a replacement from sprint? Or is there a workaround.
Also, Music's apparently been taking up to as much as 40% of my battery usage even though If don't even have it activated at the moment. I've tried deleting the apk but it appears com.android..., I may just be being a noob, but any help?

Jump" is typical when you don't power off completely and then power back on no work around other than turn it off leave the battery out for like 3 or 4 minutes and power it back up

Apparently calibrating the battery according to some Android Engineer does nothing. The percentage you have left is directly related to the voltage of the battery. So if you are at 3.95 volts, that roughly corresponds to 50% with a range of 3.7 to 4.2 Volts on the battery. What the OP saw is the bbb...battery boot bug. If you are rebooting and you are lower than 70% do it while plugged into something. If it does happen as Biggie stated, simply remove the battery for a couple of minutes and reboot. It is a false report to the phone.
This has almost always been a issue for me when I flash anything new. It stays that way for until I deplete the battery, connect and leave connected til 100%, deplete the battery and follow the same process for about 3 full cycles and then all is well! Leaving battery out for a breather sometimes helps but I installed an app that has a widget and it keeps the regulating kinda monitered so I can be a little more at ease. Will post directly after this. But I also noticed that there have been times when the readout was a very low battery red [but I knew couldn't be true] and after I put it in airplane mode and didn't bother it for 5-10 minutes when I looked back again, battery would be yellow almost back to showing good and my battery stats show the levels increased. I think cm9 can't handle too much at one time anyways
Edit: that app I think is called battery info. Its pretty simple =) hope it helps! L8rz
Edit2: that app is listed in market as battery widget not battery info

[Q] SOLVED! Battery loss after reboot- Any ideas?

I rooted my Evo for the first time 8 days ago and I really like the ability to control more features of the phone and being able to try different roms. Before rooting I had poor battery life and I had hoped that rooting would help. I have tried MikG's, Tomatos Classic, and I am currently on Decks 1.3 with the Lee kernel.
My battery life is still very poor. If I make some phone calls or use the web (even on wifi) it might last 3 hours. I've read for hours about doing radio updates, but I am on the current one as far as I can tell.
Also, when rebooting today I went from 53% battery life to 21%. The reboot was fast and took less than a minute. I will post some screens.
Any ideas on how to fix my issue?

I got a couple new anker batteries off ebay. They should be here monday or tuesday. I hope it does the trick.
Anyone have any other possible solutions?
Try calibrating your battery. Your batterystats.bin file is on the data partition iirc, so when you wipe data you wipe that file. Doing so creates a new file upon boot, and if you don't calibrate properly then you'll have weird issues such as the fluctuating battery reading. The best option is to either calibrate or only flash when you're at 100%. Try calibrating to get there, then when you wipe and flash only do so fully charged. If not wiping data, you should be fine.
There are guides available on calibrating the battery, as well as a battery calibration app.
If you're getting extra batteries, I'd invest in a wall charger as well if you don't get one with the batteries you ordered. Charging your batteries in an external charger will eliminate any battery stats issues in the future.
Good luck!

Thanks. A wall charger is included with my batteries. I have wiped battery stats and it didn't seem to help. I will try again in a few hours when I need a charge.

Be sure to follow the full calibration technique. Charge to 100, wipe batterystats, drain without breaks, charge fully without breaks. Incorrectly calibrating will keep your phone in the same condition it was.
However the wall charger should eliminate those problems. If problems persist with all batteries after charging externally, it's something with your rom or your phone.

Im going to assume that the roms you are using are sense roms i know mikg is i tried it out with the anthrax kernal and had pretty good battery life. i have noticed though if you go with cm7.2 and a tiamat kernal i had the best battery. not sure if that will help or if it is a battery calibration issue.
I got the new anker batteries in the mail today. Charged one up and am trying it now. I will update later with the results.
Ok. So it was definitely a battery issue. On my second charge with my new anker batteries and after 11 hours of use im still at 68% battery life. So it has a potential to last 30 hours on one charge. I guess it just goes to show you that these batteries are meant to be replaced periodically. Thanks to all who tried to help me out!
Jake
I had very bad battery issues with my Evo 4g. bought 2 new batteries and now I get great battery life
Im currently at 40% battery life after 30 hours since charge. Little use though. Only 1.5 hours on calls and 1.5 hours with display on. And this is with a sense 3.5 rom! I wish I had bought new batts a while ago.

[Q] Extended Battery not working at all?

Hey guys,
Ive been trying to diagnose this problem for a while, still cant figure it out. I get TERRIBLE battery life, for having a 3900mah battery. Im really really confused what is going on. Its a VZW galaxy nexus. Here are some of my specs, and then Ill post some data graphs:

-using JBsourcery 2.5 rom
Graphs:
Before this test I was charged to 100%, deleted battery stats. I have better battery installed now, I will post those results after today, see if those help at all
Can someone please give me some direction? Do I have a bad battery? Ive had it for some time, Ive always though the battery should preform better than it does. Please any advice would be great
Definitely something wrong with that battery. Maybe it simply isn't a 3900mAh battery as the seller says? Or alternatively you have a faulty battery.
Based on my experience you should be getting better battery life than that even on stock battery. With CNA 3.6.6 + Trinity a67 I've had screen on time of over 3 hours and total discharge time of over 1d before reaching empty. And those were with display brightness set to automatic.
Hey buddy, from my experience, extended batteries tend to normally discharge to 1% normally, then it hangs there for many, many hours. The OS cannot detect the aftermarket battery size. Hope this helps.

Im relatively certain now my battery is a dud. Can anyone recommend a battery? Is the seidio really my only option? Or do any of the other ones work?
I would try doing a battery calibration before buying another battery. It seems like a dud from what you've posted, but it won't hurt to calibrate it just to be sure.

And how do I do that? I already charged to full, wiped stats, and started from 100%-->0%
decided to go with just buying the seidio. I will report back when I have results
Alright, so I am noticing better battery life with this new battery. Realitvely high use, and getting better battery life. I havent been able to recreate the previous day yet, so cant do a comparision quiet yet. But really weird thing happened. I was having some network problems, rebooted my phone and plugged it in. It went from 16% to 42% instantly. Da faq? Anyone have any idea why this would happen? Are my battery stats messed up? Please help

[Q] Battery issue

I have my i9250 on CM11, fancy kernel and one of the latest twrp recovery.
I just changed a battery from original one (1750mAh) to slightly bigger one (2000mAh).
Once I tried to fully charge it, it got stuck at 90% and charging process turned off, like the battery was fully charged.
Is there anything I shall do? Like calibration (if so - how to do it?) Or is it the battery that is being screwed and I shall get it replaced.
New battery is not original Samsung battery. It says to be Li-ion battery.
Try to completely drain the new battery and then charge it, without unplugging it, to 100%.
Break me off a piece of that Kit-Kat ROM!

Tried that solution, drained it down to 4% and then tried to fully charge. With no success, stuck on 89%.
I will call on for battery replacement.
And hey, grab that piece

Hmm...sucks to hear the problem isn't fixed. Does sound like the battery isn't getting a complete charge. But hey, I will grab a piece of some Kit-Kat!

Maybe discharge it to 0% till it shuts off and then charge it. If that doesnt work try clearing batterystats (sdmaid has that option for example).
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
try to power off your device and remove the battery, for 3 mins or more then insert back and connect your charger untill its fully charged
Since its li.ion battery it shall not be fully discharged, may and probably would battery.
Waiting for new battery, probably will get it tomorrow and then will flash new snapshot of cm11 with full data reset. Hoping for positive results
Change thread name as I guess it is no longer battery calibration thing.
Got another battery and problem persists.
Let me describe the whole story from the beginning.
With my maguro, about 4 months ago, on original battery I noticed worse battery performance. It was getting worse and worse but fairly slow. After about 2,5 months (6 weeks back from now) my phone stopped charging up to 100%. The highest value it would get was 94% and then it would turn off charging. I thought that my battery is dying. After another 3 weeks it would charge up only till 90% and then stop charging. I decided that its about right time to change the battery.
Found substitute with 2000mAh. And the rest of the story is above. It would not charge till 100% (would charge only up till 90%), so I thought that the battery is dodgy. Got a replacement. With new replacement of battery I decided also to do clean flash of new 20140107 CM11 nightly. After clean flash I still get the same problem - my phone does not charge up to 100%.
Checked under *#*#4636#*#*: it says it is Li-ion battery, so in line with what it says on the new battery package (at first I thought they might be selling old types of batteries [ni-cd or ni-mh] under Li-ion labels).
Do you have any idea what to do?
Please be aware that I have already tried:
- draining and then fully charging;
- charging phone with phone switched off;
- gave a phone few minutes with battery out so it could somehow "forget the past";
- different chargers (dc charger, usb charger, car charger);
- resetting battery stats
Anybody any help? Solutions? Same problems in the past?

[FP4][LOS20] Absolutely atrocious battery life. Phone dies every night it's not plugged in

Hi guys
I moved to LOS in the hopes of improving battery life but it's been pretty bad. I'm at my whits end. I tried using PhoneProfilesPlus to turn off all sensors and radios overnight but it didn't help. My phone literally burns through battery after every even small charging cycle. I used GSam Battery Monitor but couldn't identify any specific app to be the culprit either.
Last night I even used "Battery Tool" to stop most all apps as well as "SaverTuner" to change the Doze mode settings but even still I get the following usage curve:
{

}
Btw the times seem to be completely off too. The last charging spike was around midnight.
I also noticed that Wifi won't show as "off" in the stats unless I reboot my device. But doing that didn't change anything either. As you can see, after I rebooted in the evening, the curve was practically flat. After charging a bit and unplugging before sleep though the phone immediately started draining again.
Any help is very appreciated. It seems I can't go back to stock bc of the A13 bootloader but battery life wasn't much better on stock either.
You also have other helpful charts in Gsam.
What do you mean by "unplugging before sleep"?
Turn off your phone completely overnight and compare the charge before and after.
I meant that I don't leave the phone plugged in overnight. Sadly I can't really gleam anything helpful from the statistics. I'm going to try and charge it to full before this night and set a custom reference point
Looking at that graph, do you have your screen always on? The 2-3 hours around midnight show screen on, but no battery drop. I assume you had it on charge at that point?
What charger are you using? I use an Anker 5 port Quickcharge 4 charger with a USB-C cable that has an LED display to show the charging wattage. I usually get 18W (9V*2A) which pushes charge in quite quickly.
I can't speak for LOS20 as I'm on stock A12, but the battery does seem to discharge faster than you expect.
I use AccuBattery to monitor the power usage and charge/discharge history. Put it this way, I find I do a number of smaller charges through the day. Driving along, I'll have the phone hooked up to the Android Auto slow charging it while I'm using it. I get home and I'll stick it on charge for 45 minutes to boost it up from 20% to 80%.
The rated capacity of the battery is 3905mAh, and AccuBattery is estimating my current battry capacity at 3443mAh, a reduction of 12% in 9 months. That's with only charging between 15% and 80% most of the time. I'll give it a 100% once a month or so.
Thanks for your replies!
I'm thinking something is really wrong with deep doze in my case. I charged my phone fully and got to 50% in a day's use. I made a point of not plugging it in at all because normally you'd expect it to survive on half a battery but no dice. it just starts burning through battery suddenly.
I'm honestly unsure about this graph too. I certainly didn't use the phone and the screen until 2am. I might need to look at other apps too but that doesn't change that my pone went from 55% to 0 in about 6h.
