My cpu usage seems to be going up to red very frequently. Ive recently switched over to golauncher as my home screen and ive noticed cpu usage to have started to peak much more often. When its still green according usage timelines ( the app i monitor it with) the system and transitions run much smoother on all apps including the launcher itself. When it gets red however it tends to become very glitchy... pressing *#*#3646#*#* on the dial screen and then browsing through my cpu usage, i noticed that android system was all the way up in red , and amazingly htc sense which is supposed not to even load up now coz its not the default launcher comes in second :s any one have an idea what is happening? How do i fix it?

My Desire seems to of started slowing down. It's a bit laggy in the home screen, menus are feeling a bit sluggish too.
It was lightening fast when I first had it, not sure if I've just gotten so used to it.
Any tips of speeding things up? I've removed any unused apps and wiped app cache.
The phone is also not rooted.
Any one else experiencing this a bit?
I somewhat expected the Desire to slow down after I got it... pretty much every device, computer, phone, etc I have owned slows down after it's been used a bit... I have not had a noticeable slowdown with the Desire though. There was a short time where the app manager took a while longer to load, but that didn't last long. My guess is that you have a lot of apps running in the background and maybe a live wallpaper. I have noticed as time goes on, the Desire's available ram shrinks away. After about a week and a half it usually drops to around 100 for me. A reset fixes this though, so it's not that big an issue. So, I would say get a task manager and see what all is running in the background and see if it is using your resources. I have also noticed that some of the Widgets like Friendstream are naturally a bit laggy, even when they shouldn't be.
I have noticed that I am getting shorter than expected battery life lately. I installed PowerTutor and it is telling me that messaging seems to be consuming lots of power.
Is there any configuration that could be causing this?

Do you have anything running in the background that is using data all the time? I have one program called Aura, even though the system says its not using that many resources it totally drains my battery as it runs in the background.
Under app statistics, tap "OLED" so it becomes dim and then look at the app usages again. I doubt Messaging will be one of them.

TH3 - Quite correct! my mistake
Must be something else
Actually you were correct in a way as you were just reporting what it was telling you
It just means you used Messaging a lot compared to anything else whilst the screen was on. So Messaging had the highest screen-time.
The 'OLED' tab lists the applications which had the highest screen time. Not quite power, but the screen takes most (+70%) of the phone power, so whatever takes a lot of the screen time gets listed under OLED. It can confuse matters understandably so it is best to uncheck it and then see what is being shown. If you tap any app being shown under any heading, it'll then take you to another screen which will show you the components taking power by that application, real-time.

This is my first post here!
So it looks like I may be having a problem with CPU usage and battery drain. My Incredible 2 was fine until this morning when a market update kicked in and started running the whole phone slow, and ate the battery life to 50% within a matter of 2 hours.
I'm not sure where to start with this phone - because I haven't found an app which can give me the list of running processes which are taking the most CPU resources so I can figure out what to kill (or what to remove). Can anyone recommend some tools?
settings>applications>running services. Elixir is a good app also to show you running services. You don't want to be killing apps a lot or often though, just battery draining or memory hogging ones.
Just an fyi...the recent Pandora update to version 1.5.9 to a performance hit on both of my DInc2's. Since uninstalling, performance is back to normal.
Ok - that's good info. The thing is, I never opened Pandora or played it, but I did have a widget on one of my panels (it was never active, either). I uninstalled it, but I can't tell if I'm back to normal yet . . .
By far the best app for this is called watchdog. Amazon had it as its free app of the day a few days ago. all it does is notify you wwhen an app is using more CPU % than it should. It's not a task killer. There's a lite version as well as a full one. I highly suggest it.
And by the way, welcome to XDA!

It looks like the process for HTC Mail is causing CPU drainage (I think it was com.htc.mail or something - I can't get it to reappear). I Force Stopped this process and amazingly, everything starts running smoother - panes switch like silk, scrolling is smooth, etc. This also appears to be what was draining the battery, as it quickly rose to the highest percentage of what was eating it.
The process gets restarted at some point because I've had to Force Stop it a few times already but at least it stays off for quite some time. So far, it's been about half a day since I had to kill it last.
The funny thing is - I can force stop it and still use all my HTC mail functions properly and they run quicker than ever.
Im becoming just way too frustrated... fell in love with this game but my problem is that it doesnt work consistantly. Sometimes i open the application and its blazing fast... no lag on the home screens or even ingame at the hardest levels... other times i find it to be extremely laggy or even keeps getting stuck at the loading screen. Ive tried messing up with the cpu speeds and killing other tasks and i found absolutely no correlation between number of tasks running or the CPU clock speed used. Even got it blazing fast once while underclocked... and othertimes when its on performance setting... it struggles to go through the home screens of the game....
Does any one know why this sort of inconsistency is happening? Can I fix it?
( btw if you think it might be from some unexpected apps hogging up the CPU, ive already monitored my CPU usage and removed the one app that used to do that. now whenever im on my home screen ( golauncher) my cpu usage is consistantly 25% or less )
would greatly appreciate any input. thanks guys
I noticed there was a lot of dropped frame rates while playing PUBG. So i quit and shut down all the apps. Ran the optimiser and to my surprise I was not able to get more than 700mb. I ran the optimiser few times. But to no use.
Do you know why this happens? This happens quite often now. The max i get is 748Mb.
I have battery saver mode on at all times that reduces background processes. I also put loads of apps to sleep in the settings. I have Sync switched off. The biggest application i have is PUBG. I do not have any crazy mods or apps that might need certain permissions.
I have nova launcher and i have just added fluid nav with ADB settings.
I have the usual apps like WhatsApp Instagram Skype Twitter YouTube and NO Facebook or messenger.
This started only after the ADB mod. But I don't think it causes this.
I restarted my phone and got back upto 1.3GB but it goes down in few hours.
Any suggestions? I will provide more info if needed. I tried providing as much as possible
