[Q] Any way to delete all messages without going in the app? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway to delete all the SMS and MMS messages without going into the stock app itself? Like is/are there any file(s) that I could delete using a file manager?

You can go to Menu - Settings - applications - Manage Applications, find the app in the list and tap on it, and then select clear data. This will wipe out the messages, but it will also wipe out all of the messaging apps settings.

Or you could download an app like SMS Quick Delete and use it.

Backing up texts and contacts..

Does anyone know how to backup texts and contacts? So whenever I flash new firmware I can get them back?
Thanks in advance.
There is an app called sms backup & restore in the market. I use that.
And not sure about contacts because I just automatically download them from my gmail account when setting up the phone.

I use MyBackup Pro v2.3.4 (available from Marketplace) as it allows you to backup apk's/apk's and their data, and also things like Contacts, Calendar events, Bookmarks, SMS, alarm, etc. To use it, you will need root access.
Actually, you see, the problem is that I cannot download ANY apps from the marketplace. It stalls and keeps displaying the message "Starting download..". Hence why I am trying to back everything up and reinstall the ROM.
In settings, there is a backup option that saves all contact / texts onto the SD Card. anyone know where that file is located? I'll ever be grateful if someone can post this information. thanks.
EDIT: The option is in Settings > Privacy > Backup settings.

[Q] Sms Contact Backup

Hello
So i have finally decided to try out custom roms . But i need a way to migrate my sms, contacts and calender to the new rom without any compatibility issue
i know that google has contact calendar sync but i am guessing their are better ways to migrate all of them including sms at once
is their Any free app that can make this happen
thanks
not exactly sure what you mean by "sms contacts calendar" but here's what I do. My Contacts and Calendar are synced to my google account so as soon as I sign in on a new rom those are automatically synced up. As far as my actual sms messages I use a free app called "SMS Backup" that stores them as xml on the sdcard. So just install the app on the rom and then restore.
Hope that helps.
thanks for the reply and sorry for the confusion, have edited the post . i am looking for an all in one app that can do all the the three task at once. i have seen some backup application but they also backup settings and other things. i think that will create compatibility issue
SMS - "SMS Backup & Restore" from the market
Contacts - People App > Menu > Export > Export To SD Card
Calendar - Sync with Google
My Backup Pro can backup and restore selected items. All you need is to tick the box before SMS, MMS, Contacts and Calendar when performing a backup and then do the same when restoring. I think that would be your one-click app you are looking for.

[Q] import sms from aosp to sense

Is it possible? I just moved from cm7 to synergy and I did a titanium backup but when I import messaging force closes I'm willing to flash asopif needed
Did you restore system settings as well?
I believe so I imported two portions sms press and one more
I did sms prefs and dialer storage
Re-flash the rom, and and restore only apps and data, never system settings; try that.
So just dialer storage instead?

What do you mean by that?
The only two items I see relating to sms are sms prefs and sms dialer storage in my titanium backup

No, you're gona have to reflash the entire rom, starting over, and when you get to that portion, sinply restore all apps and data, not system settings.
Tried that as well with no luck I guess its because I'm going from 234 down to 233?

[Q] how to disable google talk?

What's the proper way to disable it? i don't use it and i kept on receiving notification from spam user request.
i tried go to settings-apps and disable google talk & disablot notification, but i still get notification! i also search that i shouldn't uninstall it thru titanium backup as it will cause other problem to android.
Just uninstall it with titanium ! I used to uninstall it and i had never had any other problems. Try and otherwise restore it and look for a different option
Or just take out the Talk.apk in the system\app dir and copy it to your sdcard.
You can also disable the notification in Settings
Settings -> your email -> notification -> Disable

I deleted system contacts app and now I can't use any contacts app.

It looks like all the contacts app depend on some system contact app that I seem to have uninstalled. When I try to add contact in viber or some third party contact app I get errors like: Cannot get data from Contacts database, contact LGE for fixed firmware. Is there any way I can fix this without reinstalling the stock rom ?
Of course they do....all contacts apps read out Android contacts as well as all calendar apps read out the Android calendar.
Why did you delete it?
Anyway, no idea, what to do....maybe reflash a ROM....?
I fixed it quite easily without re-flashing. If anyone else is having the same problem just download the Stock rom ZIP, get the APK files you need( Contacts.apk and ContactsProviced.apk and .odex files ) and copy them to your /system/priv-app. You will need root of course. I tried also to install them as DATA apps but that didn't work and caused crashes, you need to reinstal them as System apps.
Just as a heads up, you should only need the ContactsProvider apk and odex, this is the apk that takes care all of your contacts, (meaning you could in theory delete just the contacts APK and odex, which should allow your replacement contacts apps to function)
